00:00The state of Louisiana is pumping the primary brakes. Lawmakers in the state decided to
00:04postpone their House primaries following a Supreme Court decision that found their
00:08congressional map to be unconstitutional. Governor Jeff Landry and State Attorney
00:12General Liz Murrell released a joint statement noting that they are working with the legislature
00:16and Secretary of State's office to figure out a path forward. Now, why is this a big deal?
00:21Because the primary is now. Absentee balloting has already begun and early voting was scheduled
00:27to start tomorrow. So you can imagine there's some confusion. Louisiana's House delegation
00:32currently consists of four Republicans and two Democrats. The Democrats were both elected in
00:37Black voter majority districts. The district map was drawn ahead of the 2024 election, but the
00:43Supreme Court, citing the Voting Rights Act, kicked it to the curb, saying districts can't be drawn
00:47based on race. The ruling is seen as a win for Republicans, so it's not a shock that Democrats
00:52in Louisiana had some criticism for the governor when he announced the postponement of the primaries.
00:57State Senator Royce Duplices said, quote, what they're effectively doing is changing the rules
01:02of the game in the middle of the game. It's rigging the system. President Trump has gone to his bench
01:08to dig up a new nominee for Surgeon General. Republican Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana,
01:13or more importantly in this context, Dr. Cassidy, blocked the confirmation of previous candidate
01:19Casey Means. The president has now tapped Dr. Nicole Sapphire in her place. Sapphire is the third
01:25person to be nominated as the nation's top doctor. Neither of the other nominees made it out of
01:30committee. Now, Sapphire is a Fox News medical contributor, radiologist, and director of breast
01:34imaging at Memorial Sloan Kettering in Monmouth, New Jersey. Trump said of her, quote, Nicole is a
01:39star physician who has spent her career guiding women facing breast cancer through their diagnosis
01:43and treatment, while tirelessly advocating to increase early cancer detection and prevention,
01:48while at the same time working with men and women on all other forms of cancer diagnoses
01:52and treatments. The president also threw some shade at Senator Cassidy in his announcement,
01:57calling his antics, quote, political games, and then asked Louisiana voters to boot him out of
02:01office whenever they end up having their primary. The president called Cassidy, quote, a very disloyal
02:06person whose Trump endorsement got him elected, but later voted to impeach President Trump on what
02:11has now proven to be a total hoax and scam. President Trump signed an executive order on Thursday to
02:17create retirement accounts for tens of millions of American workers who don't have access to a 401k,
02:22or other workplace plan. Low-income workers without a retirement plan will also get a
02:27federal matching contribution of $1,000 every year. Now, low-income in this case means individuals
02:33making less than $35,500 annually, head of households making $53,250 per year, or couples
02:42jointly making $71,000 each year. This will be really revolutionary because they'll be covered.
02:48Nobody thought that was possible. For example, if a 25-year-old who is eligible for a Savers match
02:54program invests just $165 a month under the matching federal contributions, they will have an
03:01estimated $465,000 in their account by the time they're 65 years old. In other words, they'll be
03:10rich. And there's something awfully nice about that.
03:13The U.S. Treasury Department will launch the website trumpira.gov on January 1st of next year
03:19to begin fielding the applications for this. An earlier effort under former President Barack Obama,
03:24my IRA was eliminated by President Trump in his first term.
