00:00...on Sober House.
00:01You're high.
00:02How are we going?
00:02There's heroin in the bathroom in the tub.
00:04It's a...
00:05I don't know if you...
00:069-1-1, do you have an emergency?
00:08There's a male here who's in possession of heroin.
00:19We're living in this house where at any potential moment
00:22somebody could just...
00:22call the cops on us.
00:23I'm gonna...
00:24go home now.
00:25I got these little voices in my head.
00:27Oh, yeah.
00:28One more time is you're gonna do it.
00:30Better do it now.
00:34And tonight...
00:35So, tell me how you feel about Steve.
00:37We'll have it back.
00:37It's too soon.
00:38I feel it's unsafe for him, for me, and for the house.
00:43I'm so sorry I put you through that.
00:45I'm a little threatened.
00:46We have a new friend coming in.
00:48A new member of our house.
00:50What?
00:51I'm Andy Dick.
00:52I'm an actor.
00:53I've been drinking since I was 15.
00:55I've got to...
00:59Stop, because I'm gonna die.
01:02Oh, oh, oh.
01:04This hockey player I was dating that I thought would never ask me out again, just did.
01:09You don't think it's a good idea for her to go out tonight.
01:11You keep your nasty alcohol to yourself.
01:15I tried for two hours legitimately to not drink, and then I've had it.
01:22It's gonna get crazy.
01:23I remember saying, do you like the dress I bought?
01:26He said, yeah, it's gonna look great on my floor.
01:29I don't remember much after that.
01:32When rehab ends, the work begins.
01:37You're about to watch Recovering Addicts continue their fight outside of treatment without a safety net.
01:49I'm Dr. Drew, and this is Sober House.
02:04It's day six.
02:05And the residents of the house are wrestling with an emotionally difficult decision.
02:10Just a week ago, Stephen Adler was caught using heroin in the house two days in a row.
02:17Heroin hype.
02:18He's been verbally attacking us.
02:20He was shoving us.
02:22He was slamming doors.
02:24I'm completely covered on my legs in bruises right now.
02:27With the safety of the entire house in jeopardy,
02:29Jen was forced to call 911 to remove Stephen from the house.
02:35Stephen was arrested for felony drug possession and taken to jail.
02:40With the assistance of Bob Forrest and Stephen's loved ones,
02:43he was released to the custody of a bail bondsman.
02:46I'm innocent, I tell you.
02:48It's now several days later.
02:50Stephen has completed treatment for his heroin use at Las Encinas.
02:54And is asking to be allowed to return to the Sober House.
02:57The big question now is, do the other residents even want him in the house?
03:02I think we should have him back here.
03:03I mean, we need him back here.
03:05I think this is where he needs to be.
03:08Stephen's a good dude.
03:09He just got put in a situation.
03:12No, he was great.
03:13He's a drug addict.
03:14The only mistake he made is he bruised her legs.
03:16Well, right, and that was wrong.
03:19Sober legs, it's f***ed up.
03:20It's f***ed up, man.
03:21I know he didn't mean to do it.
03:23You know, he's harmless.
03:24Honestly, he thinks a mean car is really nice.
03:26That affected her more than the...
03:27But he said some really mean things to her.
03:29All right, that, you know, he was high, whatever, right?
03:32Right.
03:32I'm not saying that he meant to hurt her.
03:34I'm just saying that's the situation.
03:35He slammed a door and the girl's got bruises across her whole leg.
03:38What is he?
03:39He hit her with the door?
03:40Yeah.
03:40That's going to be hard to get over.
03:41How is she going to get over that?
03:42We all want him back.
03:43I just, I want Jen to feel okay with it.
04:02No one was more affected by Stephen's behavior than Jen.
04:04He was verbally and physically abusive towards her, and his act of using even triggered her
04:09own trauma and addictions.
04:11I wanted to sit down with her to be sure she was okay.
04:15So it's been a lot, huh?
04:16Yeah, it's been a lot.
04:18So tell me how you feel about Stephen coming back.
04:23I'm really looking forward to the opportunity of hearing him out and seeing what he has
04:28to bring to the table.
04:29I believe in amends, but I do think it's too soon.
04:35I feel it's unsafe for him, for me, and for the house.
04:40I feel I was verbally and emotionally abused by this, and obviously I get the drug part of
04:46it.
04:46I totally get that, but the only Stephen I know is the Stephen that was monster-like.
04:57For me, I have my own issues with past experiences of abuse.
05:02I feel threatened, physically threatened by him, because I don't know the great side that
05:08everyone says he is.
05:09So you need to know that he's not going to be abusive or he needs to be respectful of
05:14boundaries.
05:14Yeah.
05:14I just hope to God that that's your word and it's the final word at this point.
05:20As I see it, you're the final word.
05:21You run in the house, and if you decide he's not meeting the criteria, and he doesn't live
05:25up to his end of the bargain, this is especially extraordinary circumstances, but it's stressful.
05:32Just like it's, you know, it's an amazing experience because I will get better, and I will get more
05:40thick-skinned, and I will get stronger, and I will, there has to be a greater good, but,
05:45you know, it's like I'm trying to keep faith for these people.
05:55It's stressful.
05:57It's stressful.
05:59It's stressful.
06:14It's stressful.
06:41It's stressful.
06:56It's stressful.
07:03I don't know.
07:11I'll get better.
07:17We just want to talk about how you're feeling and you know, where are you going and do you understand
07:22what it was like that night?
07:24What you did? Well, yeah, I was really up
07:29Here's one of the things I don't know if you're aware of it, but here's how the afternoon went
07:34She and I were talking and worried for you. Then you resented me
07:37Oh, yeah, the guy who came at me was not Steven that I've known for you know months now being
07:45sober
07:46Do you want to see the guy who's as deep in resentment?
07:48Of course, I don't want to, but I think it would help
07:50If it would help
07:52Yeah, I think it would help
07:58Steven!
07:59Steven, I know you're doing s***
08:01You're high
08:02Don't give me a s***
08:03I'm not scared, don't give me yours, I'm not scared
08:06You're giving me a s*** because I didn't do anything
08:09Oh, look at all the powder residue
08:11You know what shaving cream is?
08:13I didn't do anything, okay?
08:15Leave me alone
08:16And shut the s*** up, okay?
08:18Steve, do you still believe you haven't done any drugs tonight?
08:22I don't believe anything
08:23You haven't done any drugs?
08:24You got high
08:26You're getting high
08:27You're getting high
08:27I'm looking at you and you're high
08:29I ain't the s*** out of my face, bitch
08:31Okay?
08:36This is ridiculous
08:37He's gonna get out of here now
08:39Now he's starting off with a violent attitude
08:40Okay, come to the hospital
08:43Sam, that took us out for a meal
08:43Is that I Two?
08:46The andro on?
08:53You two andŠ°ŠµŃŠµ
09:08Must be near
09:09You'd be a f***
09:26What the f*** are you doing?
09:43That's a lie.
10:05Oh, I was happy.
10:15I'm speechless.
10:18I was sad.
10:20Yeah, it's sad.
10:21Seeing that, I can understand why I went ahead and got arrested.
10:26I wasn't good.
10:29I wasn't the person I want to be.
10:31No.
10:33I don't ever want to see that guy again.
10:35I mean, no matter what, you cannot use. No matter what.
10:41Carlina?
10:42I think when you really want something, you can make it happen.
10:46Yeah.
10:46And if sobriety is in your mind and your heart, that's what you want.
10:50You know, everybody is going to be there for you.
10:52I love you more than anything.
10:54We love you.
10:55You're my best friend.
10:56I love you guys.
10:58Yes.
10:59So the question is, are you prepared to let go of resentments to everybody, make amends,
11:05and move on, and use this motivation when you get in those horrible moments where your
11:10disease takes hold, to not let that happen.
11:13What?
11:17How do I do that?
11:17I'm good.
11:17I really am.
11:20I am.
11:31Coming up.
11:33Coming up.
11:38It's Day 7.
11:39I've now spoken to everyone involved
11:42Steven understands what he has done
11:44Ultimately now it is up to Janet
11:46It is her decision
11:47And for Steven Adler
11:48This is the moment of truth
11:49So, yeah, Steven feels very bad about things
11:53And we're going to have him come in
11:55And see how it goes
12:02Come on in, kid
12:09Come on, have a seat
12:12So what we need is a structure and assurances
12:16That you don't get back into that space again
12:18I'm doing anything it takes
12:20Everyone wants you back in it
12:21I want you back in it
12:23I want to be back in it
12:24It's what you need
12:26Beautiful
12:27She needs assurances
12:28When I saw what you just showed me
12:32I didn't really get to realize
12:35How bad I really was
12:39That's why I put you in that position
12:41I'm sorry you had to see that
12:43I really don't want to be that person again
12:45It's very ugly and scary
12:49And awesome
12:50A different person, right?
12:55Yeah
12:56I hope so
12:58After seeing that
13:00I hope so
13:01My concerns are that
13:04I understand that we do really weird
13:07And bad
13:07And crazy
13:08And sad things
13:09When we're high
13:10As I did too
13:11But I've seen only the bad side of you
13:13You know what I mean?
13:14So I only know you that way
13:16So I'm a little threatened
13:17It hurt me
13:18I can only imagine how I hurt you
13:20I'm so, so
13:22F***ing sorry
13:27I'm so sorry
13:28I put you through that
13:31I honestly said
13:32I didn't know what I was doing
13:36I'm sorry I took it out on you
13:38That was way wrong of me
13:42And you handled it quite well
13:44Yeah, I thought you handled it well
13:45I'm sorry
13:46Apology accepted
13:49Looking at him
13:50And seeing a part of me in him
13:52Allowed me to forgive
13:55What happened in the past
13:57Really is the past at this point
13:59You touch these tired eyes of mine
14:03And map my face out line by line
14:08And somehow growing old feels
14:12Walking back up the stairs of the sober house
14:14Stephen Adler now finds himself richer
14:16For the love of the people who care about him
14:19And he's been given the benefit of a wonderful gift
14:22The chance to truly start over
14:24This is the beauty of sober living
14:28Hi, take two
14:29My name's Jennifer
14:30Welcome
14:30Thank you, Jennifer
14:34Everyone's in the room
14:35Are you okay?
14:36Yes
14:37Thank you for letting me come back
14:39Come on
14:39Thank you
14:42Yeah
14:42Yeah
14:44Yeah
14:47Hi, baby
14:49Hi
14:49Good to see you
14:51Hi, baby
14:53Hi
14:54Hi
14:54Hi
14:55Holy cow
14:56See you
14:57Big smile
14:58Oh, I'm so cute
15:00Hi, you're home
15:01How's it been?
15:02Mr. GQ here
15:03What's up, man?
15:04Give it up
15:06Good to see you
15:08Okay
15:09Let me talk to everybody
15:12I have to apologize to all you guys
15:14For bringing this in the house
15:16And acting how I did
15:17I didn't mean to put anybody
15:20In jeopardy of their own sobriety
15:23And I'm really sorry, all of you guys.
15:25Please accept me back.
15:28We love you.
15:30You're accepted back.
15:32You're accepted back.
15:34Don't worry about it.
15:36Just as easily that could have been me.
15:38You know that. I know that.
15:39Me and you are very much alike.
15:41You know, if people in recovery don't love you,
15:44then where else are you going to go?
15:45You know what I mean?
15:48I'm just glad you don't want to hate me too much.
15:50I don't hate you at all.
15:53I don't hate you at all.
15:55Very true.
16:02A misconception about sober living that people might have
16:04is that the residents all arrive on one day and leave on the same day.
16:08The fact is they come and go every day,
16:10such as the case today at the sober house in Hollywood.
16:13We have a new friend coming in, a new member of our house.
16:17It's a male, and that's all I can tell you.
16:20Is he single?
16:22He's coming in either tonight or early in the morning,
16:25and he's going to move into Seth's room.
16:27So there's a little change going on.
16:28There's going to be a bunk bed coming.
16:30Well, you said to me again.
16:33That is absolutely ridiculous.
16:35My room is the size of a peapot.
16:37Seth, you're alone in the room, and therefore you...
16:39But I have no closet, and I have no room for his clothes.
16:43It's not really working.
16:45This person's detoxed, but really needs your guys'...
16:48Really needs your guys' help.
16:50And since you have more time than this person, you can be of service.
16:53You have more time than them?
16:54Yes.
16:55This person, for shizzle.
16:56You have more time, so therefore you help another.
16:59You know what I mean?
17:00It's like passing it on.
17:01And we need to welcome this person.
17:03This person's going through a lot.
17:05I'll do it.
17:06I'll do it.
17:07I'll do it.
17:09I'll do it, whatever.
17:11I'll take one for the team.
17:14Seth went from having his own room to having to double up.
17:17The only thing that we were able to put in that room is a kid-sized bunk bed.
17:22Should I take the bottom one and put a curtain?
17:24That was a huge step for Seth, because he was selfless.
17:27Living in sobriety, it's a big thing to be selfless,
17:31you know, because we're such selfish people.
17:43Good night.
17:49As if we didn't have enough interesting people in the sober house,
17:53none other than the great Andy Dick is arriving tonight
17:55to move in with the other residents and explore a life of sobriety.
17:59Hey, I'm Andy Dick.
18:01I'm an actor.
18:02I'm 42.
18:05And maybe you remember me from news radio, you know, some of my good years.
18:10I was the cameo king for 10 years.
18:14I've known Andy Dick for many years, and he's a very eccentric, lovable guy who I have great affection for.
18:19Everyone, I think, is aware of his antics and how funny a guy he is, but behind that is a
18:24severe addiction.
18:25It has recently progressed to the point that he's had a very highly publicized arrest.
18:29Oh, I just get in trouble, and that's my thing.
18:32I just get in trouble.
18:33I cannot do any more damage to my career.
18:36I mean, I'm constantly in the news.
18:39I'm constantly getting into some kind of problem with the log.
18:46You know, my downfall this time around, beer.
18:52I wasn't even doing hard drugs, no pills, but a hell of a lot of beer.
18:59I love Rolling Rock.
19:00It's a pale ale.
19:03From the glass-lined tanks of Old Betrobe, we tender this premium beer for your enjoyment.
19:10As a tribute to your good tastes.
19:12It comes from the mountain springs to you, 33.
19:17That's on the back of every bottle.
19:20No, it f***ed me out.
19:24You can't fool yourself.
19:26Beer is a drug.
19:30And so I'm sick of it.
19:33I'm serious about getting clean.
19:36You know, to me, honestly, it's my last stop.
19:40I mean, I just have to do it.
19:42My family's fed up with my drinking.
19:47They're just fed up.
19:49I live with my 20-year-old, and he's not very happy.
19:53He said, he literally said the sentence, this is not how I want to live.
20:00So, you know, I don't either.
20:03I said, I don't either.
20:05I've got to f***ing stop, because I'm going to die.
20:14I'm coming up.
20:32Well, this house is gigantic.
20:46Hi, how are you with Jennifer?
20:50Hi, I'm Amanda.
20:51I'm your house manager.
20:53Oh, thank you, baby.
20:55Welcome, welcome, welcome.
20:56I'm going to show you around the house.
20:58Okay, good.
20:58Please do.
20:59Okay.
20:59This is Mary.
21:00Hi, Mary.
21:01Hi, Mary.
21:02And here about you with Ron before.
21:03Yes, I think he is.
21:05Yes.
21:05Yes, I love him.
21:06How are you doing?
21:06I was just talking about Ron today.
21:08I'm good, you know, I'm just four days sober, so.
21:11Well, welcome, that's amazing.
21:12Yeah, it's good.
21:13This is Rodney, and you can wake him up and help me wake him up.
21:16No, no, no, no, no, let him sleep.
21:17By the time Andy arrived in the house, most of the residents had fallen asleep.
21:22Let's just pet him.
21:24Stay asleep.
21:26This is your room.
21:27There's your little friend.
21:28Oh, so I get to the bottom one.
21:30Yes, I got to the bottom one.
21:30And there's your little friend right here.
21:32Let him sleep, let him sleep, let him sleep, let him sleep.
21:34I'll talk to you in the morning.
21:36I love you, buddy.
21:37I'll talk to you in the morning, though, because I'm sleepy, too.
21:40I just want to go right to bed.
21:41I'm so glad you're here.
21:42So, me too, buddy.
21:43I'm so glad you're here.
21:44Okay.
21:45I love it, buddy.
21:47And I'm glad you're on top, too.
21:48I mean, not in that way, you know.
21:51I can't climb.
21:52I go to the bathroom all night.
21:53I don't want to climb down.
21:54Where are we going this way?
21:55We're going to go through the secret passage in the back room.
21:58I'm kind of like Mother Hen here.
22:00I'm already freaking out a little bit.
22:01Okay.
22:02When Andy Dick arrived, within three minutes, I just fell for him.
22:06You know, I saw this eagerness and this willingness to want to get better.
22:10That was the first time I've seen that here.
22:12Have you been in sober living before?
22:14No, I haven't.
22:15I never chose to do it.
22:17I was so shocked and, like, relieved that Andy was so sweet.
22:21Are you always this pleasant and sweet?
22:23Uh-huh.
22:24I'm not the monster they make me out to be.
22:27Oh, no.
22:28I'm so happy you're here.
22:29I'm so happy you're here.
22:37I've actually seen you out quite a few times.
22:39We've been to the same parties.
22:40Really?
22:40Yeah.
22:41I used to brag about how much beer I could put back.
22:44I could drink everyone under the table.
22:46I was unwilling to go to rehab again.
22:48I said, I've been there nine times.
22:49I don't need to go ten times.
22:51It's obviously not sticking.
22:53And it's unpleasant going to rehab.
22:56But then when I went to jail, I said, I'll go to rehab now.
23:00Because it's a lot better.
23:02It's his 10th time trying.
23:05And he seems pretty broken.
23:08Broken enough to want to get fixed.
23:10When I went to jail, somehow my son did find out.
23:13And he just said, just let him just sit there.
23:18My own son.
23:19Said to you.
23:20Let him sit there.
23:21I totally agree with him.
23:23I would have done the same thing.
23:25Let him sit there.
23:27The loser.
23:29Me.
23:30You know you're not a loser.
23:32No, I know.
23:33But you know, I'm just, yeah.
23:34I got to be done with it.
23:36I got to be done.
23:38My son is 20.
23:40And, you know, he's just had, he's had his fill.
23:44You know, he just has.
23:46He's such a good kid, too.
23:48He's the exact opposite of me.
23:51He's just such a good kid.
23:52And he doesn't deserve any other crap that he had to go through.
24:15Good morning, everybody.
24:17Everyone, I want to introduce our new housemate.
24:19This is Andy.
24:20Hi.
24:21Hi, Andy.
24:22Hi, I met you while you were sleeping.
24:24And they wanted to wake you up, but I just petted your hair.
24:28Seth and I have known each other for like 20 years.
24:31We used to party.
24:32Yeah, we used to party.
24:33And we got sober together.
24:35That's right, I forgot about that part.
24:37You're the first person I ever met in Los Angeles.
24:40I came off the plane, went to my hotel room, got dressed, went to a party.
24:44You're the first person I met.
24:46I probably, I beelined to you.
24:47You said, will you have sex with me for $1,000?
24:50Ah!
24:51Yeah.
24:51Oh, that's right.
24:52I did, yeah.
24:53Yeah, we had a great time.
24:54That's cheap.
24:55I mean, we didn't do that, but we had a great time that night.
24:58We did.
24:58That's cheap.
24:59I know.
25:00You're worth a lot more than that.
25:01A lot more than that.
25:02It was fun.
25:04It's hard to listen to you because you're so beautiful.
25:06Oh.
25:08So, yeah.
25:09Four seven six.
25:11Of course, I took a liking to Amber right away.
25:13She's stunning.
25:15But you know what?
25:15I'm so into trying to help myself that I'm like, I'll enjoy her, but I'm not going to
25:23even try.
25:24I adore Andy.
25:25So far, I really liked him.
25:27But I love crazy men.
25:29The crazier, the better.
25:30Because it reminds me of my dad.
25:32My dad was this beautiful, glamorous, professional football player who was a bad addict and just
25:38really got so lost in his alcoholism.
25:40He ended up dying on a bender.
25:43But addict guys that come along really steal my heart because it's my dad.
25:48And there are always these beautiful losers who, you know, are bad addicts.
25:52And I try to save them.
25:53And I forget about my own addiction because I'm so into their addiction.
25:57You guys know I wasn't going to be on.
25:59No.
25:59No, no, no, no.
26:00This was not planned.
26:01What happened?
26:02Who put your rehab?
26:03No, I put myself in rehab.
26:05Okay.
26:05So I put myself in rehab because, you know, it's just time.
26:09Yeah.
26:09You know, it's just time again for me to stop.
26:12And hopefully it's forever this time.
26:15And this time I sought out Dr. Drew because, you know, I've known him for 20 years.
26:19So I went to his rehab and there was this guy that was kind of a little shaky and he
26:25had long blonde hair and he was looking at me and going, hi.
26:29No, no.
26:29Yeah, it was Steven.
26:31And I'm like, I'm like, yeah, do I know you?
26:35Because I was all just upset.
26:36And he's like, yeah, you know, we partied the drummer from Guns N' Roses.
26:41I'm like, oh, okay, yeah, I think I remember you.
26:44And I said, what are you doing?
26:46He's like, I'm leaving.
26:47I'm going up to Dr. Drew.
26:49So I said, just bring me up there, please.
26:52You know?
26:54Nice.
26:54You know what's beautiful, even though all the mayhem, the thing that happened with
26:59Steven, like I always go, God, if I could save one person's life and the other day, Bob
27:03goes, well, you did.
27:04You saved Steven's life.
27:05Therefore, in turn, Steven saved your life.
27:08Like that whole incident, do you see?
27:10Like, we think something so tragic is like the end of the world and awful, but yet, like
27:15people are being saved from it.
27:18Yeah.
27:26Coming up.
27:39Oh, I'm so excited.
27:42This hockey player I was dating, I thought would never ask me out again, just did.
27:46Oh, my God.
27:49So what are you going to say?
27:51Well, damn, I don't know if, come to the beach slam, go-go dancers, ice lounge stripper pole
27:55is exactly the most glamorous invite.
27:58He's asking me to a party.
28:00To dance in the pole?
28:02No, not to dance in the pole, but where they're going to be going to go dance.
28:05He's told me about this party, but I didn't think he'd invite me.
28:08But the reason why this is bad is we went out, lapsed on alcohol, weather trips me out.
28:12I'm so newly sober, I'm never sober in my adult life, but I'm 37.
28:17And it wasn't sober, and I didn't, because I got so nervous.
28:19Well, the question is, what happens if you go, yes, and then what's his experience the
28:24second time around?
28:25Yeah, what's it going to be?
28:26I know.
28:28I miss 16 years.
28:30I miss everything that you normally go through.
28:36You have no idea about relationships and just being intimate with another human being.
28:40I have, like, the emotional maturity of, like, a 21-year-old.
28:46That's what I feel, and I'm not 21.
28:47And that kills me right now.
29:02Everyone is putting different things as their priority over what they should be.
29:06Mm-hmm.
29:06You know what I mean?
29:07I'm like, whoa, everyone.
29:09I know.
29:09Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help each other, you know?
29:13Amber's so excited about this party with this hot guy tonight.
29:16And I know she's never been intimate with any man before sober.
29:23And she's so new in her sobriety that going out right now to this crazy party is a really
29:31bad idea.
29:32I'm hoping that she doesn't drink or do drugs to get intimate with this guy.
29:37It may not be this guy.
29:38Maybe it'll be a date in a couple months or a year, whatever.
29:42But I gotta heal myself with, like, a normal guy.
29:47And I'll be so healing.
29:49I mean, it's not exactly the most glamorous date, but I don't know.
29:53It just was like a healing thing of, oh, my God, a boy likes a girl.
29:57You know what I mean?
29:57Do you think that you're gonna be okay?
30:00I completely understand where Jen's coming from.
30:03But I've never had any kind of deep, serious, intimate relationship with a man.
30:07I just have.
30:08I need to explore that in a normal way.
30:12I wish I could tell them to suggest things only.
30:15So there's nothing really I could do more except pray that she's gonna be okay.
30:30So, these are the rules.
30:31I'm gonna read them with you.
30:33And you want me to read them out loud?
30:34Because I can do it real fast.
30:35Perfect.
30:36Okay.
30:36Sunday through Thursday, 10 p.m.
30:39Curfew.
30:39You just have to be in the house by 10.
30:41If you are late, you will be giving a warning, in quotes, it says.
30:46You can also get a warning for being disrespectful, not doing your chores, breaking curfew, not getting
30:52out of bed in the morning, not showering.
30:56Well, I don't shower a lot.
30:58I'm not gonna lie.
30:58Like, I'm wearing the same clothes as yesterday, and I didn't shower.
31:02But I'll shower.
31:03Okay, good.
31:05Okay.
31:05There is absolutely no sex.
31:08This is the problem rule that I have.
31:11I just have a problem with it, because believe it or not, I have a lot of sex.
31:15I mean, that's why I have three kids.
31:17I would have seven.
31:19I'm just so flirty and kind of touchy, bordering on...
31:26See, so you're not allowed in my bedroom.
31:27I am, because I'm the house manager.
31:29Oh, so you can do anything.
31:31Can you have sex?
31:32I can't.
31:33I wouldn't do that.
31:34I mean, I can, but I won't.
31:35You can't?
31:36No, I won't do that.
31:37The rules are the rules for everyone.
31:42There is absolutely no sex.
31:45It's gonna be hard with that Amber girl, man.
31:47So, how old is she?
31:4937.
31:51I usually go for people, like, you know, in their 20s, but I'd make an exception with
31:56that one.
31:57If you are caught having sex, you will be given a strike and put in probation.
32:02You know, that's good.
32:03I need to just rein that all in, so it's good.
32:07No person or persons will be allowed to enter the sober living house if he or she is intoxicated
32:12or in possession of any drugs or alcohol.
32:14Last one.
32:15You will also be required to follow the instructions established by the house manager from Dr.
32:21Drew Pinsky.
32:22Okay, I'll sign it.
32:32Coming up.
32:38Are you coming over, ladies?
32:40There you go.
32:41That is sexy.
32:43Do you like the shirt?
32:44Steven bought me this shirt the other day.
32:46Oh, where is that?
32:48I've been disturbed all day with the idea of Amber going out to this party tonight, so we
32:55all sat Amber down together, and we try to suggest really strongly for her not to go.
33:01Amber.
33:01Yeah.
33:03What about tonight?
33:04Are you going to go to this party?
33:05Yeah, I know.
33:06That's what I'm really...
33:07Amber, I'm going through my head.
33:08I'm thinking maybe not.
33:09I'm thinking maybe not.
33:10If anyone else has any feelings about this.
33:13I honestly think that it's a really dangerous situation for you right now, for everybody.
33:18I know.
33:19It's going to be tough if you go.
33:20I feel that you're really strong in your head to go.
33:23You just dip in, show them that, you know, you showed up, and say, hey, I'm...
33:28Are you...
33:28That's a good idea.
33:29And just dip out.
33:30I think it's a trigger for a lot of people right now, and it's not a trigger for you,
33:35or it might be.
33:36I don't know.
33:36It might be.
33:37It's just the only thing is this guy leaves for nine months, and it's like the first person
33:42I've kind of been interested in a long, long, long, long time.
33:44Are you ready for what could happen?
33:48And something will happen, good or bad, you know what I mean?
33:53I don't know.
33:57Coming off drugs now, it's like there's men shopping and sex.
34:01That's the other things that can give you that high.
34:04And unfortunately, now I'm turning to other things besides drugs, and I really want to
34:08go and meet someone.
34:13We've all expressed to Amber how we don't think it's a good idea for her to go out tonight.
34:18Ultimately, it's her decision, and we're going to support her.
34:25You know, we support each other in this house.
34:27Before she takes a good idea, she doesn't have a cell phone, that's a good idea.
34:30Tell her, hold on.
34:33Hey, baby, baby.
34:34One thing.
34:34I want to get here.
34:37Because I want you to do one thing for me.
34:40I'm worried about Amber.
34:44She likes this hockey player, and she likes Ash down in Manhattan Beach.
34:51And she's real nervous about it.
34:53I'm really worried about her.
34:55Bye, baby.
34:57You're going to be the belle of the ball, baby.
35:02Amber's gone.
35:03She left to the party, and she went by her sleep.
35:11Oh, my God, oh, my God, oh, my God.
35:14Social phobia.
35:15I know my drink overcomes social phobia.
35:17Oh, my God.
35:19Do it.
35:20I can't.
35:20Okay, I've got to call Kip to come out and drink.
35:23For somebody like Amber, putting herself in a highly evocative environment where people
35:27are using alcohol is simply a recipe for disaster.
35:34All right.
35:43And although her intentions seem rather sincere and simple, the fact is, the environment that
35:49she is going to is one in which she is likely to use.
35:52My hope is that she gets herself out of there before something happens.
35:58Coming up.
36:02I got to the party, and it was like the movie Animal House.
36:06There was nothing intimate about it.
36:09What's going on, baby?
36:11What's his mustache about?
36:14Kip had brought me in and got me into the party, but he wasn't really there.
36:19He just kind of left me there, and he went off and, you know, did his thing.
36:23So there I am, a little bit crushed because he was paying no attention to me.
36:28And also, I don't know anyone here.
36:30It was very uncomfortable.
36:35I was just awkward and alone and uncomfortable, you know, and that's exactly why I do drugs,
36:41you know, to overcome that.
36:43Hey, Amber.
36:45Hey.
36:47How's the party?
36:48It's great.
36:49I want you to come out.
36:51Oh, my God.
36:52I am so jealous right now.
36:54Come to the party.
36:55Mary, please come to the party.
36:57The thing is, I won't get there until, like, midnight.
37:00I know, but so what?
37:02But the thing is, I can't go out of town if I get a strike.
37:05Okay, thanks.
37:06Bye.
37:07That's not going to work.
37:11No, no.
37:12You keep your nasty alcohol to yourself.
37:15I tried for two hours legitimately to not drink, and then I've had it.
37:30And the minute I drank it, I just felt a lot better, a lot more social.
37:33I started talking to people.
37:35People started talking to me.
37:36You're not prepared better than me.
37:40Thank you, God.
37:42I would not have drank had the girls come.
37:43I really would not have.
37:45It would have been a group of us.
37:46I wouldn't have been isolated as usual, you know, the one that everyone's just staring at
37:50in the corner.
37:50And I wouldn't have drank.
37:52I would have wanted to, but they would have been there.
37:55I'll be right back, though, man.
37:57Back to harass you.
37:59Hey, hello.
38:00Hey.
38:01Amber.
38:02What's up?
38:04We are late.
38:06So we're probably going to get in, like, two or three.
38:10Andy!
38:12Did you drink?
38:13Drink what?
38:14Yeah.
38:14I'm going to get a lot.
38:16Man, I should have come.
38:18Okay, I'll talk to you later.
38:19Okay, bye.
38:20Bye.
38:22What?
38:23Amber.
38:27I just kept drinking and drinking, and I never got high enough.
38:30It's going to get crazy.
38:40At the end of the night, me and Kip reconnected.
38:43And I remember saying, do you like the dress I bought?
38:47And he said, yeah, it's going to look great on my floor.
38:51And I don't remember much after that.
39:00Next on Sober House.
39:02Something out the back.
39:03Amber.
39:04I saw that come.
39:05The situation I got myself in last night was pretty scary.
39:09I just kept drinking and drinking, and I never got high enough.
39:11Oh, my head.
39:13It seems like you've suffered a great deal with all this.
39:15I'm sick of it.
39:17I've tried this ten times.
39:19I really can't do it anymore.
39:22David, he puts me down a lot.
39:25I'm not acting like a 12-year-old.
39:26I'm not acting like that, David.
39:28You're a 30-year-old friend.
39:32There's a part of me that's scared I'm going to relapse again.
39:35I just heard some f*** David said I'm not happy about wrong.
39:39David made Seth so sad that he left the group.
39:43Where the f*** is Seth?
39:50I'm in my hideout.
39:51A secret location.
39:53Please don't hunt me down.
39:54Oh, my God.
39:56How are you?
39:57How are you?
