00:00Does Bethesda really hate Fallout?
00:02Fallout has changed a lot over the years, leading some people to question whether Bethesda
00:07really understands the roots and original vibe of the game.
00:11Chris Avellone, the designer of Fallout 2 and founder of Obsidian Entertainment, was
00:16asked an interesting question on X about the speculation that Bethesda hates Obsidian or
00:21the Fallout franchise at large.
00:23Chris responded with, I don't think Bethesda hates Fallout, they just don't fully understand
00:28its roots and arguably don't care.
00:31Safe to say, Fallout probably wouldn't be in the industry powerhouse position it currently
00:36holds without Bethesda taking on the license and creating Fallout 3, which in turn led to
00:41the incredibly popular TV show.
00:43However, there is a stark difference between both eras of the series, not only down to the
00:49isometric versus FPS formats.
00:51The original Fallout games have a far more oppressive atmosphere than what Bethesda is
00:56putting out, and while the fanbase has grown, the series still has diehard fans yearning
01:02for that original tone.
01:03Chris Avellone described Bethesda's take on Fallout as a colorful, shallow theme park, but
01:09he adds, theme parks are fun for some folks, so if people enjoy it, that's fine with me.
