00:00:08Oh my gosh.
00:00:10We're about to be on a big show on TV.
00:00:14Sibling teams.
00:00:16Oh my goodness, Duff.
00:00:18What have we gotten ourselves into?
00:00:21This is gonna be ridiculous.
00:00:24It is.
00:00:25It's gonna be so much fun.
00:00:27I'm so excited.
00:00:27I can't wait to see Duff and Cartier.
00:00:30Duff and Cartier, yeah.
00:00:3112 teams, 24 kids, all in this kitchen with us.
00:00:34How can we handle 24 kids by ourselves, Duff?
00:00:37I think we lost our minds.
00:00:39We have.
00:00:40It'll work out.
00:00:41We'll do just fine.
00:00:42I can't believe we're doing this.
00:00:44Oh my goodness.
00:00:55Oh my gosh.
00:00:56Pinch me, Clara.
00:00:58It's for real.
00:00:59Ow.
00:01:04This is so cool.
00:01:06It's such an honor to be in the baking championship next-gen kitchen.
00:01:10It's so cool.
00:01:11I know.
00:01:12I think the word to describe is just everything is so cool.
00:01:16Wow.
00:01:17Look at the pantry.
00:01:18Look at the pantry.
00:01:20That's a lot.
00:01:21Oh my gosh.
00:01:22Let's go find our station.
00:01:22Yeah.
00:01:23The ovens.
00:01:25Oh my God.
00:01:26This is like better than I expected.
00:01:27I've never seen so many ingredients in my entire life.
00:01:32What?
00:01:33There's so many.
00:01:34Oh my God.
00:01:35This is like pretty cool.
00:01:37This is cool.
00:01:38This is just like a dream.
00:01:40I love.
00:01:41It's like to see everything around.
00:01:44It's mental.
00:01:44It's so cool.
00:01:45Welcome everybody.
00:01:46Find your stations.
00:01:50I saw the Duff Goldman.
00:01:53Oh my gosh.
00:01:54It was crazy.
00:01:55That's a lot of kids.
00:01:57Oh my gosh.
00:01:58Hey everybody.
00:01:59This is really exciting.
00:02:01Is everybody psyched?
00:02:03Yeah.
00:02:03Yeah.
00:02:05Oh my goodness.
00:02:07I am super excited to meet Duff and Cartier.
00:02:10Like I can't even hold my emotions.
00:02:12I'm super excited.
00:02:13Super excited.
00:02:15That's us.
00:02:15This is us.
00:02:16We are so excited because you guys are the next generation of baking superstars.
00:02:26In fact, somewhere in this group of 24 young bakers could be the next Duff Goldman.
00:02:35Kevin, help us.
00:02:39Now, we all know that baking is a lot more fun when you're working with someone you know
00:02:44and love.
00:02:46So that's why we're doing sibling teams.
00:02:52Siblings baking together?
00:02:54What could go wrong?
00:02:55Everything.
00:02:56A lot.
00:02:57More than you think.
00:02:59We'll have to find out.
00:03:01Listen guys, in order to become baking champions, you're gonna have to work together to create
00:03:09incredible baked goods.
00:03:11But let's not get ahead of ourselves because as of this moment, none of you are actually
00:03:17in the competition yet.
00:03:20What?
00:03:21What?
00:03:22What?
00:03:22What does she mean?
00:03:24Here's how this is gonna work.
00:03:26You're about to face not one, but two skills tests.
00:03:30Okay.
00:03:31We have 12 teams in this kitchen, but only 10 teams will become our baking championship
00:03:37next-gen competitors.
00:03:41Okay.
00:03:42Okay.
00:03:42Okay.
00:03:42We got this.
00:03:42We got this.
00:03:43Which means when the tests are over, two teams will be going home.
00:03:48In other words, before you can win this competition, you gotta get in this competition.
00:03:54Whoa.
00:03:56I think my brain just went, what?
00:04:01It'll work out.
00:04:02We can do it.
00:04:03We can do it.
00:04:03We will be evaluating your combined performance on both tests to determine if you have what
00:04:09it takes to be a next-gen baker.
00:04:12So, are you ready to bake for your spot in this kitchen?
00:04:15Yeah!
00:04:16Yeah!
00:04:17Nice!
00:04:18Let's get to the tests.
00:04:20The hallmark of great bakers is being able to create an extraordinary cake.
00:04:25For the first skills test, each team will have to amaze us with a perfect cupcake!
00:04:33Yes!
00:04:34Yes!
00:04:34That's easy!
00:04:37Cupcakes are delicious.
00:04:38We take cupcakes as the unicorns of muffins.
00:04:45Now, here's what we're expecting from you in this test.
00:04:49One dozen of your best cupcakes, a moist, tender sponge, bold flavor, and a silky smooth frosting.
00:04:59And we're expecting a dessert that looks as good as it tastes.
00:05:02Okay.
00:05:02Okay.
00:05:03We've made about 10 or 12 batches of cupcakes in our lives, which is a lot.
00:05:07I feel very confident that we can smash this.
00:05:11Okay, teens.
00:05:12This is your first skills test.
00:05:13You have two hours.
00:05:14Two hours.
00:05:15Two hours.
00:05:16Two hours.
00:05:17We can do it.
00:05:18You do not need to fill your cupcakes.
00:05:20But you can if you think you can get it done.
00:05:22We will be observing your progress.
00:05:24So, start off strong.
00:05:27And your test begins...
00:05:29Now!
00:05:31Now!
00:05:32Now!
00:05:34Put it in the basket!
00:05:35Put it in the basket!
00:05:36Butter.
00:05:37Butter.
00:05:38Can you help me get bananas?
00:05:39Oh, yeah, sure.
00:05:40Like a whole...
00:05:40Here.
00:05:41You can peel off the ones you want.
00:05:42Have y'all seen where the sour cream is?
00:05:44I think it's in that over there.
00:05:45Okay.
00:05:46This is Holland, and she is my beloved sister.
00:05:49This is Hyper, my also beloved sister.
00:05:52We're the Bow Girls.
00:05:54You know, I never go out of the house without bows.
00:05:56And then Holland, um, I think she tried two bows and then decided...
00:06:00I prefer this.
00:06:01It just felt more fun.
00:06:02Harper is my best friend and my favorite person on planet Earth.
00:06:05If there was an option to tell anyone a problem, a secret, she would be the first person I would
00:06:10go to.
00:06:10She's amazing.
00:06:11Oh, those are such cute liners.
00:06:13Yeah, I know that.
00:06:14We love to bake together.
00:06:15We bake so much, we practically have enough to fill a bakery.
00:06:19So we give it out to people.
00:06:20You know, we give it to our teachers, the UPS person that comes to drop off packages.
00:06:26We like to say we're baking the world a better place.
00:06:29I'm really happy that cupcakes was the first challenge.
00:06:31Yeah, we can make a good cupcake.
00:06:33We are making a vanilla cupcake with chocolate ganache filling.
00:06:37And peanut butter chocolate frosting.
00:06:39We should figure out, like, decorating.
00:06:41Because maybe we want to do something special.
00:06:43We're going to decorate our cupcakes with a big star tip and pipe our frosting all the way up.
00:06:48And we're going to add sprinkles because I think that it really highlights how confetti happy we are.
00:06:55Let's do that.
00:06:56Perfect.
00:06:57Oh, dude.
00:06:58Can you move faster?
00:07:00Yeah, Abigail's the boss.
00:07:02Move.
00:07:02You need butter.
00:07:03I know I need butter.
00:07:05Don't set that there.
00:07:06Set that there.
00:07:07And get moving.
00:07:08Oh, my goodness.
00:07:11Oh, man.
00:07:13How is Abigail as a teacher, Kevin?
00:07:15She could be kind of frustrated because she's not as sensitive as me.
00:07:20So she would like people to say, this is awful.
00:07:26Just throw it in the garbage.
00:07:28Get them in the oven.
00:07:29That is your responsibility.
00:07:31Kenneth is the type of person...
00:07:33Careful.
00:07:34He makes me smile.
00:07:36I could be angry at the world, and he would still make me crack up.
00:07:40Yep.
00:07:40We are working on our cake batter.
00:07:44I'm going to add a little bit more strawberry powder.
00:07:46Okay.
00:07:46We live on a farm in Geneseo, Illinois.
00:07:49We farm corn and soybeans.
00:07:51We have an orchard with fruit trees.
00:07:54We just planted some sweet cherry trees, even though I advocated for the tart cherries
00:07:58so I could make a pie, but that didn't happen.
00:08:01Start cleaning up a bit, and then put the liners in the cupcakes.
00:08:05Okay.
00:08:05We are making strawberry cupcakes with a mango frosting and fresh strawberries and mango on the top.
00:08:14Because I love strawberries, and Abby loves mango. That's her favorite fruit.
00:08:19And together, they're like a really popular smoothie flavor, so we're turning it into a cupcake.
00:08:23There we go.
00:08:25You keep beating that. It has to beat a lot.
00:08:27Okay.
00:08:27All right, so Duff, what is the hardest part about making the ultimate cupcake?
00:08:33I honestly think it's the sponge, because they bake so fast, it's pretty easy to dry those things out.
00:08:39Yep.
00:08:39I'll get started on the actual, like, making the cupcakes.
00:08:42We are very competitive people, because we are Philadelphian, and Philly is known for competitive people.
00:08:48There we go.
00:08:49Girl power.
00:08:50We are die-hard Phillies fans.
00:08:53Like, we love watching baseball games when, like, the Eagles make it to the Super Bowl.
00:08:58I'll take my shirt off and run around the neighborhood like a lunatic.
00:09:02And also, Philly food is just, like, over top of, like, everything else.
00:09:05Also, Philly accents.
00:09:07Like, hey, I'm gonna go get a hot dog on 4th Street.
00:09:10I don't really know how much this is, but we can measure it.
00:09:13What's up, Abby and Cameron?
00:09:15Hi.
00:09:16How's it going?
00:09:17Duff is, like, my idol.
00:09:18He can decorate cakes like a boss.
00:09:21I really want to be like him.
00:09:22He's a really cool guy to look up to.
00:09:24So, it's really cool to see him in person.
00:09:27Cameron, are you bringing headbands back?
00:09:28Oh, yeah. Headbands all the way.
00:09:31Are you, like, out there in the morning, like, getting your road work in?
00:09:34I'm more playing pickleball, but that'd be fun.
00:09:37It's a different generation.
00:09:39Different generation.
00:09:40Right, right.
00:09:40What are you guys making?
00:09:41We're making chai latte cupcakes with a spiced buttercream and some toasted nuts on top.
00:09:48Because it's a very interesting flavor that is gonna be different from everyone else.
00:09:53Chai latte cupcakes.
00:09:55We steeped chai tea.
00:09:56Okay.
00:09:57And we made, like, this chai milk.
00:09:59And we have this spice mix, which is cardamom, cinnamon, allspice, and ginger.
00:10:05Nice.
00:10:05And that's gonna enrich the flavor.
00:10:07That will enrich the flavor.
00:10:09We are definitely bringing our Philly pride into this competition.
00:10:12We are here to win.
00:10:14All right, Philly.
00:10:14Good luck.
00:10:15Yeah.
00:10:15That's right.
00:10:17Get that ice cream scooper ready.
00:10:19Woo-hoo.
00:10:20Now, go put these in.
00:10:22That was awesome.
00:10:23Dance break.
00:10:24Na, na, na, na, na.
00:10:26Na, na, na.
00:10:27Na, na, na, na.
00:10:27Michael!
00:10:28Where'd he go?
00:10:30Where'd he go?
00:10:31Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.
00:10:33So, our team name, we've prepared this.
00:10:35It is...
00:10:37The Brotherly Baker.
00:10:40Ba-ba-ba, bakes.
00:10:41Ba-ba-bakers.
00:10:42Bakers.
00:10:43I'm making buttercream and he's making the cupcakes.
00:10:45We are a family of all brothers.
00:10:48We have four brothers in total.
00:10:49I'm the oldest.
00:10:50He's the second oldest.
00:10:52Being in an old boy house, it's, like, really chaotic.
00:10:55I guess we do fight a lot.
00:10:57Fighting for, like, the remote.
00:10:59Just, like, jumping on each other.
00:11:02WWE throwdowns.
00:11:03We're now gonna make yellow sheet cupcakes
00:11:06with a strawberry frosting.
00:11:08And then put a little strawberry on top
00:11:10to make it look good.
00:11:12I was 9 or 10 years old when I started baking.
00:11:15It kind of started,
00:11:16because my mom was just kind of swamped out of all this stuff.
00:11:19So she was making pancakes for everyone.
00:11:22I'm like, oh, I could do it.
00:11:23You're the expert here.
00:11:25I'm the little assistant little dude.
00:11:28The assistant coach.
00:11:29You think Jeff's gonna like this?
00:11:31Hopefully.
00:11:32I'm only taking a yes.
00:11:34That cupcake batter for Liam and Michael is super thick.
00:11:38Mm-hmm.
00:11:39I feel like those are gonna be gummy.
00:11:41Yep.
00:11:42These cupcakes will be cupcake-y.
00:11:44Are you working on the frosting?
00:11:46Uh, yes.
00:11:47I'm still working on the powdered sugar.
00:11:49I'm Olivia.
00:11:50I'm 12.
00:11:50And I'm from Dallas, Texas.
00:11:52All right, Nora.
00:11:52I'm gonna have you help me remember.
00:11:54This is my second cup.
00:11:55All right, second cup.
00:11:56I'm Nora.
00:11:57I'm also 12.
00:11:58And I'm also from Dallas, Texas.
00:12:00We're identical twins.
00:12:01My favorite thing about being a twin is, like, getting to confuse people.
00:12:05We cut our hair so it'd be the same.
00:12:07And now no one can tell us apart.
00:12:09Our teachers get so confused.
00:12:11So I usually wear a headband to school.
00:12:14All right, time to add in the fifth cup.
00:12:16Yeah.
00:12:16Nora and Olivia.
00:12:17Hi.
00:12:17How's it going?
00:12:18Good.
00:12:19You guys excited?
00:12:20Yes.
00:12:20Are you freaked out?
00:12:21Am I freaking you out?
00:12:22No.
00:12:22Okay, good.
00:12:24So what are you guys making?
00:12:25We're making spice cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and toasted pecans on top.
00:12:30And in the end, we're gonna do, like, a cinnamon dusting on them while they're on the plate.
00:12:34I love cream cheese frosting.
00:12:37I kind of want to stick my finger in there.
00:12:39Maybe I'll have a little.
00:12:40Hold up.
00:12:43Did you add salt?
00:12:46Oh, we will do that.
00:12:47Excellent.
00:12:48Okay, cool.
00:12:49All right, yeah.
00:12:49Good luck.
00:12:50I'm rooting for you.
00:12:52Every frosting needs salt, so it's not overwhelmingly sugar rush in the brain.
00:12:57I'm just gonna get a little bit.
00:12:58That is perfectly balanced.
00:13:01That's incredible.
00:13:0390 minutes left, bakers.
00:13:04We have a kitchen full of sibling teams.
00:13:07This is my brother.
00:13:08We want to see how you guys work together.
00:13:12We both really like, like, strawberry lemonade.
00:13:14So we decided on a lemon cupcake with a strawberry cream cheese frosting.
00:13:19Yeah, look at the lemon juice, I'm afraid.
00:13:20I'm making the lemon cupcake batter, and to get the lemon flavor, I'm adding lemon juice and lemon zest.
00:13:27We're not really in the championship yet, so it's, like, kind of nerve-wracking.
00:13:31Akbar, we're literally making it into this competition.
00:13:33Yes!
00:13:33We've got this.
00:13:34My name is Genesis.
00:13:35I'm 12 years old.
00:13:36My name is Akbar, and I'm 10 years old.
00:13:39We're the soul sibs because we put a lot of soul into our food, and we sing with soul, and
00:13:46we're siblings.
00:13:47One teaspoon of vanilla extract?
00:13:49One teaspoon, yep.
00:13:50Our whole family is just, like, a very musical family.
00:13:53Me and him be harmonizing a lot.
00:13:55Mary had a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb.
00:14:03Okay.
00:14:04Let's pour these into these.
00:14:06Okay.
00:14:07You guys.
00:14:10This looks like curd.
00:14:13So these do not look like they're supposed to be like this, though.
00:14:16Oh, that batter.
00:14:18This is the first thing we're presenting to Defrancardia, and I have to get this perfect.
00:14:22They don't look right.
00:14:23Ugh.
00:14:24You know, I'm gonna start over.
00:14:26Aqua, Aqua.
00:14:27Aqua, we're gonna start these cupcakes over, because they don't look right.
00:14:29No, wait, no, no, no, no, no.
00:14:30They don't look right.
00:14:31Yeah, because you're supposed to cook it.
00:14:33I know, but that's not how the batter is supposed to be like that.
00:14:35We're gonna try it again.
00:14:36Ah!
00:14:37That's, like, watery.
00:14:38They mismeasured something.
00:14:39We are breaking our way onto the competition, and I cannot make any mistakes.
00:14:43Our cupcake batter was really runny.
00:14:44It didn't seem like that was, like, the right consistency for any of our cupcakes that we made.
00:14:48So I'm just gonna try it again.
00:14:49We're not putting more lemon juice, because it messes up the batter.
00:14:52We're switching to a yellow cake batter.
00:14:54Just because it's a thicker texture, and it's, like, a better cake to make.
00:14:57But we still want to do strawberry lemonade, so we're gonna add the lemon flavor into the strawberry cream cheese
00:15:03frosting.
00:15:04I'm using the oven.
00:15:07That is looking, like, way better.
00:15:08It has just a better texture and everything, yeah.
00:15:10Bakers, you have one hour left.
00:15:13You're baking your best cupcakes to get into this competition.
00:15:16Will do!
00:15:17Macy, what are we working on?
00:15:18Uh, we're gonna start working on our buttercream.
00:15:21Baking with Macy makes me so happy.
00:15:23I like baking with Emmett.
00:15:25It's fun.
00:15:25He always makes it very interesting.
00:15:29He just...
00:15:30Interesting.
00:15:33Okay, what's next, boss?
00:15:34We are big outdoors people.
00:15:36We do a lot of, like, traveling.
00:15:38We just find outdoor stuff, like hikes.
00:15:40We love going mountain biking.
00:15:42Honestly, we love baking.
00:15:44I would definitely be, like, the team captain, like, the boss.
00:15:47I would be the one telling him what to do.
00:15:50He's a great boss.
00:15:51He's pretty easy to boss around.
00:15:53He'll take criticism.
00:15:54We know that Duff likes bacon and maple together, so we're gonna make a...
00:15:59Well, our cupcakes are in the oven, but we're making a maple bacon cupcake with a vanilla buttercream frosting.
00:16:07We're baking bacon.
00:16:08We're baking bacon.
00:16:10We're baking bacon.
00:16:11We're baking some bacon.
00:16:12We're baking some bacon.
00:16:13We're baking some bacon.
00:16:14Couple little crumbs.
00:16:16Spring back.
00:16:17Perfect.
00:16:18Okay.
00:16:19So, let's see.
00:16:21They're underdined, so let's go for three minutes.
00:16:24I'm Clara.
00:16:25And I'm Amelia.
00:16:26We are competitive people at times.
00:16:28We're not gonna be, like, mean competitive.
00:16:30We're, like, saying mean things to the other team, like...
00:16:33Oh, never.
00:16:33But we're gonna be competitive where we're gonna be, like, we're gonna do great, I think, because I wanna win
00:16:38so badly.
00:16:40That badly.
00:16:41We do swim team.
00:16:43These are all my medals that I've won from swimming, and we actually made it to nationals in that.
00:16:48Does this look about creamed?
00:16:50Oh, yeah, that looks great.
00:16:51We're making a lemon buttercream because we made a strawberry cupcake.
00:16:56And then we're gonna top it with freeze-dried strawberries and a piece of lemon.
00:17:00Our inspiration of this cupcake flavor is because we are from Texas, and if you know this, it is very,
00:17:06very, very hot there.
00:17:08So, a strawberry lemonade drink makes it very refreshed, and strawberry cupcakes are even better.
00:17:15They seem just so jiggly.
00:17:17There's a lot of pressure riding on these cupcakes because we wanna stay in the competition, and to do that,
00:17:23we need to bake a really good cupcake.
00:17:25Our cupcakes just won't finish. I mean, do these, like, done-
00:17:27Have you guys tried bumping it up a little?
00:17:29Okay.
00:17:30Okay.
00:17:31Like, maybe it's gonna bump up the temperature.
00:17:32Oh, it's our grade 20. That's why.
00:17:34We need it at 350. We didn't even check.
00:17:36So, we're just waiting for the cupcakes to finish?
00:17:38Yeah, that's exactly what's going on.
00:17:40Do you want me to just, like, get a toothpick?
00:17:43No, they're done.
00:17:44You sure?
00:17:45No, you see?
00:17:48Also, I think that's good. That's good.
00:17:51We're somewhat representing the weird kids on the show.
00:17:54I don't take offense to that, though.
00:17:56Why would you?
00:17:57This is my sister, Jovi, and she is 13.
00:18:01This is my sister, Lenore, and she is 11.
00:18:03I learned how to bake from my mom and my grandma and my dad.
00:18:08I learned from Jovi.
00:18:09Yes.
00:18:09Jovi and Lenore, are you all in a band?
00:18:12Yes.
00:18:12Both of us are in a band with a few of our friends.
00:18:14I play electric bass.
00:18:16I play drums.
00:18:17What's the name of the band?
00:18:19Seth Thomas.
00:18:20Like the clock?
00:18:21Yes.
00:18:21You know!
00:18:22Oh, my gosh, you know!
00:18:23Oh, my gosh!
00:18:25This is insane!
00:18:25Nobody knows!
00:18:27Rocker Girls!
00:18:28All right, so what are you girls making?
00:18:30We're from Georgia, the Peach State.
00:18:32So, we are making peaches and cream cupcakes.
00:18:35You're singing to my heart.
00:18:37I'm a little Southern girl that loves me some peaches and cream.
00:18:40It's gonna be a cinnamon cupcake with a peach compote inside and a cream cheese vanilla bean frosting.
00:18:50You're doing a filling even though you don't have to.
00:18:52We don't have to, but it kind of makes the whole idea of it being a peaches and cream cupcake.
00:18:56Okay, so I'm gonna be honest with you.
00:18:58Mm-hmm.
00:18:58I think you've cooked down all the juice.
00:19:00If you add a little bit more juice in there, it'll help break down that, the peaches a little better.
00:19:04And maybe a cornstarch slurry to help thicken it up a little bit, because you remember, that's gonna be a
00:19:07center.
00:19:08You don't want it to, like, ooze out, you know?
00:19:10Yeah.
00:19:10Okay.
00:19:11All right, good luck, Rocker Girls!
00:19:15Thank you so much.
00:19:16We don't want to over-bake it.
00:19:18Honestly, it's good.
00:19:20It's good.
00:19:20Now go bring it.
00:19:21Even though I'm younger, I'm the more experienced baker and I'm the leader.
00:19:27Should I start making the buttercream?
00:19:28Yeah.
00:19:29Yeah.
00:19:29Okay.
00:19:30My name is Melody, and I started baking when I was in preschool.
00:19:33It just brings me joy, and since taking Raid, it's been my dream to be on the Food Network.
00:19:40Is it going good?
00:19:41Yeah.
00:19:41My name is Leila, and I really want to win this baking competition for Melody, because I know
00:19:46how much it'll mean to her.
00:19:48Ah.
00:19:48Melody, don't.
00:19:49Melody.
00:19:49No.
00:19:50Don't be like, ah.
00:19:52Like, just hug me.
00:19:56Because we both love cookies and cream, we're making chocolate cupcake with cookies and cream
00:20:04buttercream, and we're going to top it off with a chocolate sandwich cookie.
00:20:08When I grow up, I want to be a mom.
00:20:11I'm, like, pastry chef slash bakery owner.
00:20:13Um, I want to be a night shift nurse.
00:20:15Why night shift?
00:20:16Uh, they make more money.
00:20:21It's so buttery.
00:20:22It's going to need some more flavor.
00:20:23We need more cookie crumbles.
00:20:25Melody, Melody, Melody, Melody, Melody, Melody.
00:20:27We don't want the judge to taste butter.
00:20:29Just butter.
00:20:30Happy.
00:20:31We're the color of a pineapple and a banana.
00:20:35Hi, I'm Tanvi.
00:20:36This is my sister, Kavya.
00:20:37Oh my gosh.
00:20:39We do farmer's market, and here's in Texas, we have purse cookies, so it's a little invention
00:20:43that we made.
00:20:44We make little mini cookies, and then we put them in jars, and then we sell those for,
00:20:49like, two or three dollars, and then you can put them in your purse.
00:20:51And our motto is, you're never hungry when you have purse cookies.
00:20:57Oh, that looks so beautiful.
00:20:59Let me see.
00:20:59Yes, our cream cheese frosting.
00:21:01Every year for our grandma's birthday, we do hummingbird cupcakes.
00:21:04She really loves it.
00:21:05Yeah.
00:21:05So, today we're making a hummingbird cake with a cream cheese frosting.
00:21:09So, this cake has, like, pineapple, pecans, bananas.
00:21:14Okay.
00:21:15They're almost done.
00:21:17Go grab the Prettiest Flight for Beauty shots.
00:21:20Hup, hup, hup, hup, hup, hup, hup, hup.
00:21:23How's it going?
00:21:24Good, good.
00:21:25I think we need to work on flavoring our buttercream and making our decorations.
00:21:27I'm Leah, and this is Kira, and we're from Phoenix, Arizona.
00:21:30I started baking around three.
00:21:32I made my first batch of macarons at five.
00:21:35I've done two wedding cakes.
00:21:36My first one was at ten.
00:21:37I definitely learned a lot of my baking skills from my sister.
00:21:42I'm going to add more Hale Snow paste, because you said the flavor was strong enough.
00:21:45Like, that much.
00:21:46Because I don't want it too much.
00:21:47That much is good.
00:21:48One idea we had was opening up a cat cafe, since we both love animals.
00:21:52We have a lot of pets, like cats and horses and sneaks.
00:21:57My sneaks name is Red Velvet.
00:21:58He's very cute, very friendly.
00:22:00I have five chickens.
00:22:01I love hanging out with them.
00:22:02I love chicken accessories.
00:22:03Like, why just dress up cats and dogs?
00:22:05I mean, you can dress up your chickens, too.
00:22:06Yeah.
00:22:07Our cupcake will be a vanilla cupcake with a hazelnut buttercream.
00:22:11On top, we'll add a marbled chocolate heart truffle filled with praline paste to really impress
00:22:17the judges.
00:22:18Kira, melt those at the same time as these.
00:22:21Okay.
00:22:21For the chocolate hearts, we started off with melted milk chocolate and white chocolate in
00:22:26a piping bag.
00:22:27So you get a nice swirl when you pipe them out.
00:22:29And then we put our hazelnut spread inside of it.
00:22:33I'm going to put them in the freezer so the hazelnut paste hardens.
00:22:3620 minutes left before your first assessment.
00:22:39We'll be coming around to your stations to inspect your cupcakes when time is up.
00:22:42Okay.
00:22:45We need...
00:22:48Amazing.
00:22:50A little stonken.
00:22:51Our cupcakes aren't rising because I think we might have not mixed our cupcake batter too
00:22:58well.
00:22:58I'm really worried.
00:22:59I just hope they're not under done.
00:23:05When we get our cupcakes out of the oven, they look really good.
00:23:08So I'm just going to shove it in the blast chiller for them to cool.
00:23:11Not on that side of the back.
00:23:13Oh no, your cupcakes!
00:23:15Oh my gosh.
00:23:16Oh no.
00:23:17What?
00:23:18Somebody's cupcakes fell.
00:23:23Do you need any help?
00:23:24Yes.
00:23:26Oh my God.
00:23:27They're fine.
00:23:27They're fine.
00:23:27I got it.
00:23:28Abigail, three second rule.
00:23:29Pick them up.
00:23:30Oh my God.
00:23:30Are you okay?
00:23:31Thank you, Kavya.
00:23:32You're welcome.
00:23:33Oh, they got help.
00:23:33Okay, we're good.
00:23:34That's ours.
00:23:35Okay, can I put cupcakes in here?
00:23:36Yeah.
00:23:37It's fine.
00:23:37You'll be honest enough.
00:23:39I won't tell anyone.
00:23:40It could have been way, way worse, but none of the cupcakes actually fell apart.
00:23:44I did not see it.
00:23:46I think that was good for her because I would have been a lot more mad if I would have
00:23:50seen
00:23:50it.
00:23:51Yeah, she definitely did drop her cupcakes.
00:23:54It'll be a little wonky, but nothing Frosty can't fix.
00:23:57It's ten minutes left.
00:23:59Ah!
00:23:59We don't have very much time left, so we need to start decorating.
00:24:03We really do.
00:24:04Show us what you got.
00:24:05And make your cupcakes shine.
00:24:08Let's frost on.
00:24:09We're going to assemble our cupcakes by cutting out little cone-shaped cake pieces out of
00:24:13our cupcakes and spooning a ganache filling so that we can start focusing on decorating.
00:24:18Take a breath, Harper.
00:24:20You're a fabulous baker who knows what they're doing.
00:24:24Then we're going to pipe on our frosting and top with a couple of cute sprinkles.
00:24:28Oh, these look pretty good.
00:24:29I mean, they don't look pretty good.
00:24:30They look fabulous.
00:24:32Okay, need these filled.
00:24:33I don't know if doing a filled cupcake will impress the judges more, but the whole idea
00:24:38of it being peaches and cream means this needs to have big peach flavor.
00:24:43They're a little biscuit-looking.
00:24:45Okay, they'll taste good.
00:24:47Ah.
00:24:47Do you want to frost them?
00:24:48Sure.
00:24:49Frosting's not really my thing.
00:24:50Five minutes.
00:24:51Is that actually the time?
00:24:53Yes.
00:24:53Just a reminder, at the end of these tryouts, two teams will be going home.
00:24:59Help me grab the bacon and stick it on here.
00:25:00Be quick.
00:25:01Come on.
00:25:02We're now frosting cupcakes.
00:25:04I got whole almonds because it's going to add more color.
00:25:07But then I don't think they're going to want to eat almonds whole.
00:25:09We could try doing the slice.
00:25:11I can do it now.
00:25:13Some of them didn't come out the same.
00:25:15We just have to make do because we do need to hurry just a little bit.
00:25:18Three minutes.
00:25:19Since you iced it, I get to decorate it.
00:25:20Okay.
00:25:21You do the lemons and I'll do the strawberries.
00:25:22Okay.
00:25:24I'm nervous for the judges to taste it.
00:25:26Me too.
00:25:26Good.
00:25:27See how it kind of peeled a bit?
00:25:30They're a little wonky.
00:25:31They look really good except for the liners.
00:25:34I think they look good.
00:25:37One minute.
00:25:38One minute?
00:25:39Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry.
00:25:40I'll decorate while you pipe.
00:25:42I'm the boss.
00:25:43Don't forget.
00:25:43I know, I know.
00:25:44Because I think you'll forget.
00:25:45Last cupcake.
00:25:47Don't press it in more.
00:25:4830 seconds.
00:25:49There's no green sprinkle there.
00:25:51You're such a perfectionist.
00:25:53But I love you.
00:25:55All right.
00:25:55Light dusting.
00:25:57Oh, no.
00:25:58That's a bit much cinnamon there.
00:26:00Please don't mess up.
00:26:01I won't mess up.
00:26:03Let's get the cupcakes on.
00:26:05Put it onto the wire.
00:26:11That's it.
00:26:12Good job.
00:26:15Don't look at the imperfections.
00:26:17Don't look at the cupcakes.
00:26:18Don't look at the cupcakes.
00:26:22Don't look at the cupcakes.
00:26:22Genesis and Akbar.
00:26:24If we really like these, could you guys sing us, like, a little bit of a song?
00:26:28Yes.
00:26:29Uh, yeah.
00:26:30All right.
00:26:31So, what did you guys make?
00:26:33We have yellow cake cupcakes with a strawberry lemon cream cheese frosting.
00:26:37I think my favorite part of these is actually the yellow sprinkles.
00:26:40It just adds a whole other layer.
00:26:42And it tells me that, oh, this is actually going to be lemon and strawberry and not just strawberry.
00:26:46But your cupcakes look like my stomach and my jeans.
00:26:50Yeah.
00:26:51We got some muffin tops.
00:26:51Some of them, yeah.
00:26:52Some of them are little, some of them are little different sizes.
00:26:55Ice cream scoop every single time to get exact measurements.
00:26:59Okay.
00:27:00Yeah.
00:27:00Look at that.
00:27:01It's coming off nice.
00:27:05This sponge is incredible.
00:27:07This is, I mean this in the best way possible.
00:27:09It almost tastes like a box cake.
00:27:10And those are the best.
00:27:11Right, they are.
00:27:12Those are the absolute best.
00:27:13I am so glad you remade your cupcakes.
00:27:15That was a really smart move.
00:27:17You made something that is absolutely beautiful.
00:27:19I am so impressed.
00:27:20Truly.
00:27:21I am really impressed.
00:27:22I think the deal was, if we liked your cupcakes, you were going to sing.
00:27:27Okay.
00:27:28Okay.
00:27:28Ready?
00:27:29Three, two, one.
00:27:31This little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine.
00:27:35Oh, this little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine.
00:27:41Let it shine.
00:27:42Let it shine.
00:27:44Let it shine.
00:27:45Let it shine.
00:27:47Unbelievable.
00:27:49Wow.
00:27:49That was amazing.
00:27:51And you definitely let it shine.
00:27:53Wow.
00:27:53Great job.
00:27:54I'm glad we like it.
00:27:55Thank you so much.
00:27:55Thank you so much.
00:27:57I'm glad we love it.
00:27:59I don't know that.
00:28:00All right, Abby and Cameron.
00:28:02We did chai cupcakes with a spice buttercream.
00:28:06So it's ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, and allspice, and then toasted almonds on top.
00:28:11Here I can see a lot of cupcake.
00:28:13Here I can't.
00:28:14You got to work on your consistency here.
00:28:16Try to make everyone as similar as possible.
00:28:19Okay.
00:28:20Ready to taste?
00:28:21Hope you enjoy.
00:28:22As the judges take a bite of our cupcakes, we're like scared because we could like make
00:28:27or break the entire cupcake.
00:28:29Oh.
00:28:30Yeah, the almonds.
00:28:31There's an almond.
00:28:33Ooh.
00:28:35Woo!
00:28:36These spices are great.
00:28:37And it really is giving me that kind of like creamy, milky aftertaste that you get
00:28:42when you get a chai latte, which is really nice.
00:28:44But man, the almond is overpowering the experience.
00:28:47Okay.
00:28:47Great warm flavors.
00:28:48Your sponge is really, really dry.
00:28:51Just think about the amount of fat and liquid you use to your dry.
00:28:55Okay.
00:28:55Thanks, guys.
00:28:57We definitely could have done a lot better.
00:28:59Yeah, we could have done definitely better.
00:29:01Abigail and Kenneth, what do we got?
00:29:03We made a strawberry cupcake with a mango buttercream topped with fresh strawberries
00:29:09and mango.
00:29:10Ooh.
00:29:11I think the colors are absolutely beautiful.
00:29:13I think we can tighten up on the frosting a little bit.
00:29:16Okay.
00:29:16Because you put fresh fruit on top, some of that fresh fruit starts to seep into the frosting,
00:29:21but it looks pretty good.
00:29:22Yes.
00:29:24I'm glad somebody does a sandwich.
00:29:27That's the best way to do it.
00:29:29Mmm.
00:29:29Mmm.
00:29:30It's very tropical.
00:29:32I think you've done a great job with highlighting the mango and the strawberry.
00:29:35Your cupcake is moist.
00:29:37It is really, really good.
00:29:39This is delicious.
00:29:40A little more salt next time.
00:29:42Yes.
00:29:42But overall, this is a really great cupcake.
00:29:44Way to go.
00:29:46I'm nervous.
00:29:48Leah and Kira, let's see what you got.
00:29:50So today we made for you a vanilla yellow cupcake with hazelnut buttercream.
00:29:58And for decoration, we made little chocolates filled with like praline paste.
00:30:02That is advanced work.
00:30:04I mean, do you need to just skip the skill sets and just go into the competition?
00:30:08My goodness.
00:30:09I'm so impressed.
00:30:10I'll take this little one right here.
00:30:11The truffle on top.
00:30:12Wow.
00:30:13Yes.
00:30:14Ooh.
00:30:15I'll eat the whole thing.
00:30:17Ooh.
00:30:18Mmm.
00:30:18Ooh.
00:30:20Hazelnut.
00:30:21Nice.
00:30:22Cupcake time.
00:30:23Real test.
00:30:26Mmm.
00:30:28Your sponge is really nice.
00:30:31You've baked it perfectly.
00:30:32It has the right amount of flavor.
00:30:34But your frosting doesn't really have much flavor to it.
00:30:39I agree with Cartier.
00:30:40I got bold hazelnut out of your truffle.
00:30:44The flavor in here, not quite strong enough.
00:30:46Going forward, really think about your flavors.
00:30:49You guys know that you can make beautiful stuff.
00:30:51And that is super important, especially in the days of social media.
00:30:55But we're not just giving you likes, all right?
00:30:58We're actually taking bites.
00:30:59And we got to make sure that these things taste good.
00:31:00So really work on your flavors.
00:31:02Okay.
00:31:04Hello, Clara.
00:31:05Hello, Amelia.
00:31:06Texas in the house.
00:31:08Yeah.
00:31:08Yeehaw.
00:31:12What did you guys make?
00:31:14So we made strawberry lemonade cupcakes.
00:31:17Oh, cute.
00:31:18They have a lemon frosting and a strawberry cupcake.
00:31:21Because, like, you think lemonade and you think, like, the sun and, like, swimming.
00:31:25It looks really good.
00:31:26I think you have a good amount of frosting on each cupcake.
00:31:30That's a giant slice of lemon.
00:31:32I'm going to take that lemon off.
00:31:34Uh-oh.
00:31:36Uh-oh.
00:31:36Oh, no.
00:31:38Oh, no.
00:31:39Oh, no.
00:31:40It's coming apart.
00:31:42I think something went wrong.
00:31:44I suspect it's a little bit too raw.
00:31:47So now I just have frosting and a little bit of the cupcake.
00:31:50And a giant lemon sauce.
00:31:54I'm, like, holding my breath.
00:31:55I'm like, oh, no.
00:31:56What's going to happen?
00:31:59Hmm.
00:32:01Really make sure you're measuring everything right.
00:32:03Because you definitely got too much sugar in here.
00:32:05But I'm getting the lemon.
00:32:08It's really giving me kind of like a lemonade sort of vibe.
00:32:11It does taste like a refreshing drink in the middle of a hot summer in Texas.
00:32:14But, girls, remember this is a skills test.
00:32:17There's some issues here that you got to work on if you want to stay here.
00:32:20Now, I shouldn't have a cupcake to fall apart in my hand.
00:32:24There's way too much frosting.
00:32:25We got to work on garnish.
00:32:27You know, is the garnish edible?
00:32:30Okay.
00:32:30I'm scared.
00:32:32Jovi and Lenore, what'd you make?
00:32:34We chose peaches because we live in Georgia, which is the peach state.
00:32:37We made peaches and cream cupcakes.
00:32:40They have a cream cheese frosting and a peach filling.
00:32:43These are really beautiful cupcakes.
00:32:45It just looks refined.
00:32:48Mmm.
00:32:50Love the cream cheese frosting.
00:32:52Okay, okay.
00:32:52Love, love, love.
00:32:53You got a nice cupcake here.
00:32:54It's a little firm, but it's not bad.
00:32:56And I think that to hold all of this juicy, peachy goodness, it probably needed to be a little bit
00:33:03more firm.
00:33:03I might have liked the filling a little thicker.
00:33:05Did you add any cornstarch to it?
00:33:07We did, yes.
00:33:07Yeah, maybe just a touch more.
00:33:09Okay.
00:33:09But your level of spice was beautiful and it made this so much more interesting.
00:33:15All right.
00:33:15Nora and Olivia, what'd you make?
00:33:17We made a spice cupcake with cream cheese frosting and toasted pecans.
00:33:23We went with spice cupcakes because all of the warm spices and it's almost like a hello or a welcome.
00:33:28To decorate, we added a cinnamon dusting.
00:33:31That is a lot more than a dusting.
00:33:33That is a blizzard.
00:33:34School is canceled.
00:33:36No one's going anywhere.
00:33:38You better hope you have enough milk and toilet paper in the house.
00:33:40Way too much.
00:33:41A little bit more than a dusting.
00:33:46You know, your sponge is actually really nice.
00:33:48It's pretty tender.
00:33:49It's really soft.
00:33:50I can taste the spice and then it's just sweet, right?
00:33:53Okay.
00:33:53The overall taste is sugar.
00:33:56Okay.
00:33:56They said the cupcake and frosting were just a bit too sweet.
00:34:00Which makes sense because they're adults.
00:34:02We're kids.
00:34:03We like sugar.
00:34:04They like less sugar.
00:34:05It tasted normal to me.
00:34:06Going forward, really think about those ratios.
00:34:10Okay.
00:34:11Thanks lady.
00:34:12Less sugar.
00:34:13Less sugar.
00:34:14And less, less cinnamon.
00:34:15Yes.
00:34:16Less cinnamon.
00:34:17Here we go.
00:34:19Macy and Emmett, what do we have here?
00:34:21So today you have a maple cake with vanilla frosting and bacon on top.
00:34:28I definitely smelled a pork product of some kind.
00:34:32Your piping is pretty clean.
00:34:34Your frosting looks really good and sturdy and like you've done this a time or two?
00:34:40Yes.
00:34:40I want, I think I want this one.
00:34:43The one with the most bacon.
00:34:44Oh, I'm so excited.
00:34:47I think you have a pretty tender sponge.
00:34:49Listen, you got bacon and maple on top, right?
00:34:52And you didn't really mess around with too much other stuff to interfere with that.
00:34:56I think that's delicious.
00:34:57The salty bacon.
00:34:58I mean, it really does add a nice little touch.
00:35:02But that's where I'm getting all the flavor.
00:35:05Everything else is just one note.
00:35:10My heart is racing.
00:35:12Hello, Harper and Holland.
00:35:15Hi!
00:35:15Look at these beautiful cupcakes you made.
00:35:18What's in there?
00:35:19It's a vanilla cupcake.
00:35:20With a peanut butter chocolate American buttercream.
00:35:22And a vanilla ganache filling.
00:35:24No, a chocolate ganache filling.
00:35:26A chocolate ganache filling.
00:35:29A chocolate ganache filling.
00:35:42And creamy.
00:35:42Oh, boy.
00:35:44Okay.
00:35:44Let's see.
00:35:46Mmm.
00:35:47Hmm.
00:35:49Interesting.
00:35:49Listen, your ganache is beautiful.
00:35:52Really silky.
00:35:53And the peanut butter in here is just perfect.
00:35:56I could eat this with a spoon.
00:35:59I love your peanut butter frosting.
00:36:01But the sponge is a, it's a little tight.
00:36:05It's over mixed.
00:36:06Yeah.
00:36:06I feel like the cake, it's just, it's a little bit dense for what this should be.
00:36:10Yeah.
00:36:10Yeah.
00:36:11So it was tight.
00:36:12Maybe we can take it to the gym so it can stretch.
00:36:17Thank you, ladies.
00:36:19You got it.
00:36:20You got it.
00:36:21Hi, Layla and Melody.
00:36:23Hi.
00:36:23So today we made a chocolate cake.
00:36:26And then we made cookies and cream frosting topped with chocolate sandwich cookies.
00:36:30This looks delicious.
00:36:32If I saw it like walking past the bakery, ooh, we gotta go in there.
00:36:36Yeah.
00:36:37All right, let's taste these things.
00:36:41Mmm.
00:36:42Good frosting.
00:36:43Needs more sugar.
00:36:44Okay.
00:36:44Very buttery.
00:36:45And maybe a little salt too.
00:36:47Taste as you go.
00:36:48Because, you know, you don't want your buttercream to send you home.
00:36:50Yeah.
00:36:51Yeah.
00:36:51This is a beautiful chocolate cake though.
00:36:53Keep that recipe.
00:36:54It's really good.
00:36:55Okay, make sure no bananas are falling.
00:36:56Wait, let's make sure no bananas are falling.
00:36:58No bananas are falling.
00:36:59Okay, no bananas are falling.
00:37:01Tomvi and Kavi, what have you made for us today?
00:37:04Hummingbird cake.
00:37:05Today we made a hummingbird cupcake with a cream cheese frosting.
00:37:08You did?
00:37:09Yes.
00:37:10I love hummingbird cake.
00:37:10Yes, it's our favorite and our grandmother's favorite.
00:37:13So we make it for her every birthday.
00:37:16So...
00:37:18I think you have some really nice consistent cupcakes.
00:37:21Each one has one pecan, one nice thick slice of banana.
00:37:28Mmm, I get bananas.
00:37:30I get pineapple.
00:37:32The ratio of...
00:37:33Cupcake to frosting.
00:37:34Yeah.
00:37:35I'm not mad at the amount of frosting that's on top.
00:37:38I need more cake.
00:37:39Cake, yeah.
00:37:40I think your sponge is a little dense.
00:37:42A little over mixed.
00:37:43Okay.
00:37:44Right?
00:37:44Your frosting is delicious.
00:37:46It's also a little loose, so it's literally all over me.
00:37:49Yeah.
00:37:50But really, this is a nice little cupcake.
00:37:53I'm scared.
00:37:55Liam and Michael.
00:37:57Dude bros.
00:37:58Dude.
00:37:58Dude.
00:37:59Dude.
00:38:00What'd you make?
00:38:01We made yellow cupcakes with strawberry buttercream.
00:38:06Yes.
00:38:06With a chocolate drizzle.
00:38:07They're a little messy.
00:38:08They are messy.
00:38:09You overfilled your cupcakes as you have a really big rise.
00:38:14Too much filling in the liner.
00:38:16Look at this strawberry.
00:38:16This is like an inch and a half thick, and this one looks like you cut it with a sushi
00:38:20knife.
00:38:21That's...
00:38:22Yeah.
00:38:23All right.
00:38:24Let's do this.
00:38:27Let's get in here.
00:38:28Wow.
00:38:29Okay.
00:38:30Oh, he just went for that.
00:38:32Yeah.
00:38:33I hope they love this cupcake.
00:38:35Yeah.
00:38:40You do get tons of strawberry flavor as soon as you bite into it.
00:38:42Okay.
00:38:43But their sponge is tough.
00:38:45It's almost like cornbread.
00:38:46You see all these big holes?
00:38:48Yeah.
00:38:48It's called tunneling.
00:38:49When you overmix your batter, you create too much gluten.
00:38:53Uh-huh.
00:38:53And that's why you get the big holes.
00:38:55Yeah.
00:38:55As soon as you add that flour, you mix it as little as possible.
00:38:59Got it.
00:38:59Okay.
00:39:00All right, guys.
00:39:00Good luck.
00:39:01Thank you so much.
00:39:02Thanks, dude bros.
00:39:03Dude bros.
00:39:05All right, guys.
00:39:07Skills test one is done.
00:39:08Some teams were on point.
00:39:10Others struggled.
00:39:11Once you complete test two, we'll get a clearer picture of your overall baking ability.
00:39:17This is it.
00:39:18Your second skills test.
00:39:20These tests are about earning your way into the competition.
00:39:24Cartier and I will be evaluating you the whole time.
00:39:27If you've been spot on so far, now is not the time to get sloppy.
00:39:31So come on over.
00:39:33We want to show you a couple of tips that you're going to need for your next test.
00:39:38I can't wait to see what it is.
00:39:40All right.
00:39:41Now, if you've been hit or miss, this is the time for your big comeback.
00:39:44For your next skills test, you'll have to create an entire full-sized dessert from scratch.
00:39:53And that dessert will be...
00:39:56Pie.
00:39:57Here we go.
00:39:58Pie.
00:39:58Oh my gosh.
00:39:59Pie.
00:40:03Wow.
00:40:07We love pies.
00:40:08We love making them.
00:40:09They're so delicious.
00:40:10We love them.
00:40:11All right.
00:40:12Bakers.
00:40:13Behold, my beautiful buttermilk pie.
00:40:16Ooh.
00:40:17I see.
00:40:17It's simply an example of what a good pie should look like.
00:40:22We decided a pie would be the best way to determine which teams have what it takes to succeed in
00:40:28the competition.
00:40:28Ooh.
00:40:30To bake the perfect pie, you've got to be able to juggle a lot of different skills.
00:40:35A crust that's flaky and tender.
00:40:37A filling that sets up and holds up.
00:40:40And of course, the flavor of that filling.
00:40:43It's gotta be luscious.
00:40:45It's up to you how you decorate your pie.
00:40:48Aw.
00:40:48Okay.
00:40:49Okay.
00:40:51Now, the biggest technical hurdle when it comes to a pie is the crust.
00:40:56Yeah.
00:40:57In order to make a good pie crust, you have to choose what type of fat you'll be using.
00:41:02Some people use shortening.
00:41:04Some people use lard.
00:41:06I like an all-butter crust.
00:41:08I handle the dough as little as possible.
00:41:11That's why I like using a food processor.
00:41:13So, in this food processor, I already have flour and salt.
00:41:17I'm gonna add my butter to the food processor.
00:41:20Now, I'm going to pulse.
00:41:22Get that butter nice and crumbly.
00:41:24And I have some extremely cold water.
00:41:27Put a little ice in there to make it really cold, right?
00:41:30This is awesome because you're, like, you're learning from, like, the best in the business.
00:41:35Just until it becomes nice and crumbly, it sort of forms a ball, okay?
00:41:40It's coming together.
00:41:41You guys see it?
00:41:41Yeah.
00:41:42Grab that dough.
00:41:43Form a disc with it.
00:41:45So, I'm gonna let this set up in the freezer for about 20 minutes.
00:41:49Once it sets up in the freezer, you'll have this.
00:41:53Ta-da!
00:41:55Flour your surface.
00:41:57Get your roller.
00:41:58Bang it out.
00:41:59And make your pie crust.
00:42:01Do not overwork it.
00:42:03It gets really tough.
00:42:05And we don't want that.
00:42:06We want flaky.
00:42:06We want tender.
00:42:07We want buttery.
00:42:08We want flavorful.
00:42:09Don't forget to use salt, too, okay?
00:42:11Yeah.
00:42:12Amazing.
00:42:13Yeah.
00:42:13It was, like, delicious Miss Brown live.
00:42:18That's so fun.
00:42:20I hope you kids were able to soak all that in.
00:42:25Because it's pie time.
00:42:27My time.
00:42:29All right.
00:42:29When it's all over, Cartier and I will huddle up and evaluate how you did on both skills
00:42:35tests.
00:42:36And then decide who will make it through.
00:42:38Oh.
00:42:40And which two teams will be heading home.
00:42:45All right.
00:42:45That's why we call it tryouts.
00:42:47I am feeling really nervous.
00:42:49All right, teams.
00:42:50You have two and a half hours to make a pie from scratch.
00:42:54Oh, I can do it.
00:42:55Plenty of time.
00:42:55You can do this.
00:42:57So get ready to bake the most important pie of your life.
00:43:03Ooh, okay, okay, okay, okay.
00:43:04Your last skills test starts...
00:43:08Now!
00:43:14I mean, please tell me you got a food processor.
00:43:19Yeah, but you weren't supposed to take the basket.
00:43:21Yeah, well, there was no other way of transportation.
00:43:24I'll bring it back.
00:43:25How do I open this thing?
00:43:28No, that's vegetable shortening.
00:43:30Go get regular shortening.
00:43:32Okay.
00:43:33For this pie, I'm really going to focus on just mixuring.
00:43:36It, like, looks really nice.
00:43:38Mixuring isn't a word.
00:43:40It's make-sure.
00:43:40Make-sure.
00:43:41Not make-sure-ing.
00:43:43Okay, let's...
00:43:44It's not make-sure, it's make-sure.
00:43:45Let's stop interrupting.
00:43:46I'm just going to really, like, not handle it a lot.
00:43:49So it's, like, not over, like, mixed and, like, not overworked.
00:43:53And make sure to bake it the right amount until it's nice and golden.
00:43:57We are making our mamaw's raspberry pie.
00:44:00With, like, a nice golden flaky crust with a raspberry filling.
00:44:06I'm thinking about doing maybe, like, a lemon whipped cream to give it a little, like, citrusy flavor.
00:44:11Our mamaw passed away, like, a year ago.
00:44:14And this is the recipe she handed over to us.
00:44:17I've baked this pie with my mamaw.
00:44:19And it has won ribbons in the Okanagan County Fair.
00:44:23And it's really special to have her recipes because we all miss her.
00:44:28I have a picture of her in my pocket, actually.
00:44:29Me too.
00:44:30Oh, do you have one?
00:44:30What are the pictures?
00:44:32These were when we were younger with her.
00:44:36Our cupcakes didn't turn out the best, so we brought this recipe out to really give the judges something that's
00:44:45special to us and that we really like.
00:44:47The recipe my mamaw always used, you always use shortening instead of butter.
00:44:50I think the shortening definitely helps make it a very flaky pie.
00:44:53Does it actually shorten the pie?
00:44:54No.
00:44:56Okay.
00:44:57And eight minutes.
00:44:58Then we did a blind bake to make sure it's, like, golden and crispy.
00:45:01That smells the smell of raspberry.
00:45:04Let's take our time.
00:45:05We got this.
00:45:06We can do it good.
00:45:07I'm so happy.
00:45:08Today we're making a key lime pie with a speckless cookie crust.
00:45:12And we're gonna pipe little, like, circles and then fill them with raspberry puree.
00:45:18The judges told us to focus on bolder flavors for one of our cupcake components.
00:45:23And so we're gonna make sure that this pie is packed with enough lime flavor so that it's very pungent
00:45:28and clear exactly what it is.
00:45:29To get the lime flavor really to be bold, we decided to add key lime juice and lime zest.
00:45:36Good, good, good.
00:45:37A lot of times people do just, like, regular butter crusts.
00:45:40But we love the speckless cookies because it's different from normal graham cracker.
00:45:45And it, like, adds different flavor into the mix.
00:45:48But I think that can make us stand out to the judges a little bit more.
00:45:53Come on. Let's do this. Move it faster.
00:45:56Wait, did it say ounces or grams?
00:45:58Grams.
00:45:59I feel a little bit nervous because for the cupcakes, they said our cake was a little bit tight.
00:46:06So if this is not so good, I don't think we're staying.
00:46:09But this is fabulous.
00:46:11Everything needs to be the tip of the top.
00:46:13Then I think we need that.
00:46:14I really, really, really do not want to be eliminated first.
00:46:17Harper and Holland.
00:46:19Yes.
00:46:19What's going on over here?
00:46:20Where do you guys make it?
00:46:21We're making a s'mores pie.
00:46:23S'mores pie.
00:46:23How do you make a s'mores pie?
00:46:25Okay.
00:46:25So it's a graham cracker crumble crust.
00:46:28Okay.
00:46:29And it's a chocolate pie filling.
00:46:31And then we have a homemade marshmallow cream that we're going to torch.
00:46:34And then we have graham crumbs to go on top.
00:46:36You're going to play with a blowtorch?
00:46:38We've used it before.
00:46:39It works.
00:46:39Okay.
00:46:40That's cool.
00:46:40All right, ladies, bow power.
00:46:43Let's get it.
00:46:43Yes.
00:46:43Bow power.
00:46:45Okay, that looks pretty good.
00:46:46Do you think?
00:46:47Yes!
00:46:48Oven time!
00:46:50How's the peaches coming together?
00:46:51Look at that.
00:46:53Okay, get the pie dough, roll it out, put it in the tin, car bake it.
00:46:56Okay.
00:46:57I really, really, really, really, really.
00:46:59I really want to, I wanna be, I wanna.
00:47:03Really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really.
00:47:04I wanna be on the.
00:47:06Really, really, really, really, really, really.
00:47:07Can I talk?
00:47:09I want to be in the competition.
00:47:10I wanna be in the competition.
00:47:12Higher than space, lower than ground, and farther than netball.
00:47:16So, Duff and Cartier said, with our cupcakes we added too much frosting to cake ratio.
00:47:23So, we need to work on ratios and flavor.
00:47:26So, I think we're going to make a really good comeback today.
00:47:28We are making a spicy peach pie.
00:47:31To get the spice into the pie, we are using black peppercorns.
00:47:34We're Indians and Indians like spice.
00:47:37We absolutely love Indian flavors because they're so warm.
00:47:41But they're also like bars and they have a tingle in your throat.
00:47:46For the crust we are making today, it's going to be an all butter crust.
00:47:50For our decorations today, we are going to make pie crust flowers to put on top of our pie.
00:47:55Look at that.
00:47:57My mother taught us this.
00:48:01Right?
00:48:02Yeah.
00:48:03Do every single one exactly the same.
00:48:07You bet.
00:48:08Okay, I'm going to go put this in the oven for 15 minutes.
00:48:10Okay, 15 minutes.
00:48:12Starting now.
00:48:13Bakers, you have two hours left.
00:48:18Taking forever to pull out.
00:48:21We are making a coconut cream pie.
00:48:24The dough recipe is mine.
00:48:25The filling recipe is mine.
00:48:26It's all a recipe I came up with, with my friend Charlotte.
00:48:31Because we had no fruit in the house and I wanted to make a pie.
00:48:33And so, we just put it together and it worked really well.
00:48:36So, for our coconut pie, it's going to be our flaky pie dough, our coconut filling, and then for decoration,
00:48:43we're going to use tiny cut-outs of pie crust on the top as heat.
00:48:47Because both of us love playing outside and we're outside all the time, so we thought it'd be, just to
00:48:52show us a little personality.
00:48:54Jovia Lenore's crust looks pretty thick.
00:48:57I'm a crust girl, but I like my crust baked all the way through.
00:49:00Yeah, that is going to take a while.
00:49:03We're up.
00:49:05It's not ready to get out yet.
00:49:07But I'm just checking on it.
00:49:14Oh, there's like a pool of butter.
00:49:18There's butter everywhere.
00:49:20There's butter, like pools of butter in it.
00:49:23And our crust sinks.
00:49:24Our crust shrinks.
00:49:26Oh.
00:49:27Oh, no.
00:49:28Oh.
00:49:28Oh, no.
00:49:30Oh, gosh.
00:49:31So, we're like, we cannot work with this.
00:49:34Like, you can like swim in that.
00:49:36Oh!
00:49:37There's a tool of butter.
00:49:38Yes.
00:49:38Is it supposed to be there?
00:49:39No.
00:49:40It's just really sad.
00:49:42This is terrible.
00:49:43This is terrible.
00:49:49I think we've added too much better to our pie crust.
00:49:51Okay, we're going to do a ginger snap crust really quickly.
00:49:53So, we ditch it and start on a ginger snap crust.
00:49:57Our ginger snap crust is cookies, butter, flour.
00:50:00Bam.
00:50:01Okay.
00:50:02For like 10 minutes.
00:50:06Bakers, you have one hour and 45 minutes left.
00:50:09Oh, shoot.
00:50:09We got to hurry.
00:50:10One hour and 45?
00:50:12I don't even have this in the oven yet.
00:50:14Do not over mix that.
00:50:16That's really important.
00:50:16Is to not over mix the egg in the ice water?
00:50:19No.
00:50:20The dough.
00:50:20I don't care what the recipe says at this point.
00:50:22You're supposed to pulse that.
00:50:24She is, uh...
00:50:26I wouldn't say a little bossy.
00:50:27I would say a lot bossy.
00:50:30And she'll admit it.
00:50:31What?
00:50:32Nothing.
00:50:34Uh, we live on a farm and I make pies at home
00:50:37out of our peaches that we grow.
00:50:39So, for our challenge today, we are going to be making a peach pie with a nice flaky crust.
00:50:46And for our decoration, we're going to do a lattice.
00:50:49You see what I'm doing here?
00:50:50I would say getting a good lattice is having perfectly even strips.
00:50:56Can I try it?
00:50:58No.
00:50:58I'm sorry.
00:51:00And being perfectly the same spaced out.
00:51:03Oh, wow.
00:51:04That looks pretty good, Ibs.
00:51:07Aqua?
00:51:08Yes.
00:51:09Stop all that.
00:51:10I'm good.
00:51:11You're doing too much.
00:51:12You're literally breathing and all that stuff.
00:51:14What I'm...
00:51:15We're trying to...
00:51:15You said you want to put it in a dish.
00:51:17I'm not allowed to breathe.
00:51:17You're not allowed to breathe.
00:51:18But you're doing that with an attitude, so stop doing it.
00:51:21Okay, Ann.
00:51:21Do you do the same thing?
00:51:22No.
00:51:23Well, I'm older.
00:51:24I'm the head baker.
00:51:25You're not.
00:51:27I am a little stressed out.
00:51:29I do not want to be the first team to lose, like, because after all of the work we've
00:51:34done to get here, it's like, it'd be really, like, devastating and sad.
00:51:38Yeah, I agree with that.
00:51:39Me and Awkwa are going to be making a sweet potato pie with a tender and flaky pie dough,
00:51:45like, crust.
00:51:46Sweet potato pie is, like, one of the, like, most used recipes in, like, our family.
00:51:50I really like sweet potato pie.
00:51:51It's one of our family favorites, except Awkwa.
00:51:53He doesn't like sweet potato pie.
00:51:55For our sweet potato filling, we have our sweet potatoes boiling until they're soft,
00:51:59and then after that we peel them and mix them with eggs, nutmeg, cinnamon, butter,
00:52:05vanilla, brown ginger, and sugar.
00:52:08Is it good?
00:52:11Yeah.
00:52:12Nice pie.
00:52:15Dude!
00:52:16Oh, I got a joke for you.
00:52:18You want to know what's better than sports cards?
00:52:21Oh, my gosh.
00:52:22What's better than sports cards?
00:52:24Sports cards!
00:52:25Oh!
00:52:26That was the worst joke I've ever heard.
00:52:29An apple just flew out.
00:52:31Our cupcakes weren't the best.
00:52:34So, Devin Cartier told us the decorating was a little bit messy.
00:52:36Also, that we overbaked the cupcakes.
00:52:39We're hoping we can redeem ourselves.
00:52:41The plan is to make a flaky pie dough crust with the apple pie filling.
00:52:46With the extra dough, we're gonna make some cookies, and we were doing, like, a New York
00:52:52theme, because we both love musical theater and Broadway.
00:52:55And they call New York the big apple.
00:53:00Okay.
00:53:01Which ties in with apple pie.
00:53:05Crap.
00:53:06It's way weird.
00:53:07The pie crust just is not looking good at all, and I don't really know what to do.
00:53:12I'm ever stressed.
00:53:13The dough's not forming.
00:53:16I added one cup of flour.
00:53:17I was supposed to add two and a half cups.
00:53:19So, now it's all kind of just messed up.
00:53:22I'm just trying to fix it, but it's hard.
00:53:25You want to start over?
00:53:26You can.
00:53:27You're way faster at it, so I don't think it'll take as long.
00:53:30Okay.
00:53:30We can just start over, then.
00:53:32Scary.
00:53:33We had to scrap that dough, make a whole new dough, and hopefully it's gonna be okay.
00:53:39Liam, flour.
00:53:41Two and a half cups?
00:53:41Five.
00:53:42Oh, yeah.
00:53:43Five.
00:53:45Ninety minutes left, bakers.
00:53:47No soggy bottoms.
00:53:49No loose fillings.
00:53:52Got the peaches in.
00:53:54Yeah.
00:53:54Can you spread that around?
00:53:55Okay.
00:53:56Yes.
00:53:57Our pie is saved.
00:53:59There's gonna be some flaky pie crust.
00:54:01If we make this good, we're here to stay.
00:54:04All right.
00:54:05Billy's in the house.
00:54:06Yeah.
00:54:07So, what kind of pie are you making?
00:54:08I'm doing an apple pie.
00:54:10With a flaky crust and doing a brown sugar crumble on top.
00:54:14Heard you guys are really into, like, athletics.
00:54:18There's a runner here.
00:54:20We got pickleball king.
00:54:22Woo-hoo!
00:54:23Okay.
00:54:23So, how, like, how good are you at pickleball, Cameron?
00:54:26I'm a two-time champion of Plymouth meeting and doubles, so, yeah.
00:54:31Woo!
00:54:32Booyah!
00:54:32I'm the box champion!
00:54:35Okay.
00:54:36Oh, yeah.
00:54:36Good luck.
00:54:40Clara and Amelia.
00:54:41Hi, Ty.
00:54:42Look at that beautiful berry pie.
00:54:45What do you got there?
00:54:46Blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries.
00:54:48And, um, lemon juice and lemon zest.
00:54:51Okay.
00:54:51And then we have just a normal pie crust.
00:54:54Gotcha.
00:54:55So, we're gonna do, like, lattice work on half of it.
00:54:58Kind of looks like a gate or something.
00:55:00And over the other half, we're gonna use a cookie cutter,
00:55:03which is a hummingbird and then a tulip.
00:55:07When we went to the Netherlands, we went to the tulip gardens.
00:55:10Was it beautiful?
00:55:11Beautiful.
00:55:11Beautiful.
00:55:12There was a whole bunch of hummingbirds.
00:55:15Oh, I bet that was amazing.
00:55:16It was amazing.
00:55:17I see a lot of little butter chunks in there.
00:55:19Sprinkle a tiny bit of flour on there and make sure it doesn't stick.
00:55:23There you go.
00:55:24Okay.
00:55:24Good luck, ladies.
00:55:26The judges have told us to work on what we put on top of our baked goods
00:55:30because we had a lemon piece on our cupcake and they didn't like it.
00:55:35It was too big.
00:55:35And it wasn't exactly edible.
00:55:38So, we are going to make sure that our pie looks great
00:55:42and that our decorations are edible, which they are gonna be.
00:55:46I think we might be taking some risks because, one, we've never made a berry pie.
00:55:51And, two, we don't know how it's gonna turn out.
00:55:54That looks so pretty.
00:55:56All right, we need to get this in the oven, like, ASAP.
00:55:58Like, hurry up.
00:55:59I hope this works.
00:56:00We can't afford this to not work.
00:56:04Okay.
00:56:04Okay.
00:56:05Are you guys doing raspberry lemon, too?
00:56:08Oh, we're gonna do, like, a lemon whipped cream.
00:56:10That's what we're doing.
00:56:11Oh.
00:56:12I mean, it's fine.
00:56:13Competition.
00:56:14We could do a different whipped cream.
00:56:15No, it's fine.
00:56:16Do it.
00:56:16Are you guys doing a raspberry pie?
00:56:17Or, like...
00:56:18Raspberry mousse pie.
00:56:19So, it'll be different.
00:56:21It'll be different.
00:56:21Okay.
00:56:21Okay.
00:56:22We're going to make, like, a raspberry mousse cream pie with a crumb...
00:56:28Crumb crust?
00:56:48Crumb.
00:56:48A little bit of salt.
00:56:50I want it to be beautiful and perfect.
00:56:52If we nail this challenge, we'll get to go on to the competition.
00:56:57I feel like if we, like, move it to the side, there's so much...
00:56:59Well, it has eggs, so maybe when it, like, cooks, it's gonna get solider, but it'll solidify.
00:57:06We're gonna be making a pecan pie.
00:57:08I don't think we should add any more pecans.
00:57:11Okay, so...
00:57:12First, we wanted to do an apple pie, but we saw two others were doing apple pie, so we decided
00:57:17to do pecan pie.
00:57:19We're taking kind of a risk, and we've never made pecan pie.
00:57:22Yeah.
00:57:23Should I pour it, Layla?
00:57:24Uh, yeah.
00:57:25So, our plan to decorate is with a lattice, because I think that would really make the
00:57:31judges, like, us being really unique, because people usually don't do lattices on pecan pies.
00:57:40There's a pool of...
00:57:42Okay.
00:57:43There's a pool of the sauce.
00:57:46Millie, stop pouring.
00:57:48Okay, so we started scooping out the goo with a paper towel, because the filling has
00:57:54to stay...
00:57:55In place.
00:57:56To the cake.
00:57:57We thought that the goo would spill out, and that it wouldn't turn out good.
00:58:02Why?
00:58:03Why are Layla and Melody pouring out the goo for their pecan pie?
00:58:07That is the best part!
00:58:08What is happening right now?
00:58:09I don't know.
00:58:11Because, kids, we want goo.
00:58:16In the middle rack.
00:58:18Okay.
00:58:18Okay.
00:58:19One hour left, Bakers!
00:58:21Oh!
00:58:21Oh!
00:58:22Oh!
00:58:24We're looking for flavor, flavor, flavor!
00:58:28Okay.
00:58:28This is the most important pie you will ever bake in your life!
00:58:34Oh!
00:58:39Oh, my gosh.
00:58:41What do you need?
00:58:42I don't know.
00:58:44For the second time we're making the dough, I'm rushing, because I'm very stressed.
00:58:47If I add way too much flour, again, then I added too much water.
00:58:55Yeah.
00:58:55You're okay.
00:58:56Okay.
00:58:57We were really struggling, and we were way behind, compared to everyone else.
00:59:03I'm sorry.
00:59:05I'm sorry.
00:59:05I just can't.
00:59:06I don't know how to make pie.
00:59:08I don't.
00:59:09I haven't made it in a long time.
00:59:12If we can't fix this, we might be going home.
00:59:20Please.
00:59:22What's wrong?
00:59:22I'm okay.
00:59:23I'm okay.
00:59:23It's all right.
00:59:24I've got to make this pie dough work.
00:59:28We have to come out with something.
00:59:31I added in a lot of flour, one cup, in the dough.
00:59:35We don't have much time.
00:59:36That's all right.
00:59:36It's okay.
00:59:37I really hope it works.
00:59:39I think it's gonna work.
00:59:42Finally, we put it in the oven to cook.
00:59:46Hopefully, it's good.
00:59:4845 minutes, bakers.
00:59:50My arms aren't long enough for this.
00:59:53Did you make the little pie thing?
00:59:55Yes.
00:59:56We make some decorations for the top of our pie using pie dough.
00:59:59And we used the little molds.
01:00:01Akbar made some flowers.
01:00:02I think it looks pretty.
01:00:05I really, really, really, really, really want this to sit.
01:00:08It's a lack.
01:00:10I noticed that our chocolate pudding filling wasn't as thick as I wanted it to be.
01:00:15And so I put it in the fridge to set.
01:00:18Um, okay.
01:00:19I think that's okay.
01:00:20I par-baked the pie crust.
01:00:22And then I added in the apple filling.
01:00:23And then I'm just gonna put it back in.
01:00:26With the extra dough we had, we make some cookies.
01:00:30We're trying to go for a New York theme.
01:00:32Lady Liberty is cooking.
01:00:3430 minutes!
01:00:38For a key lime pie, we start by piping the little rings of whipped cream.
01:00:42And we filled them with raspberry puree.
01:00:45And then we decided we wanted to really impress the judges.
01:00:48And we have a little extra time.
01:00:49I want, like, a key limey color.
01:00:50So we add some green chocolate spears.
01:00:52You melt your chocolate down.
01:00:54Then we put it into our mold.
01:00:55And we flipped it upside down to get all the excess out.
01:00:58Just so it's not solid chocolate.
01:01:00When it comes out of the freezer, pop them out.
01:01:02And add puree in them.
01:01:03Okay, good, good, good.
01:01:05It looks so good.
01:01:06Good job, Leah.
01:01:07Bakers, you have ten minutes.
01:01:08So sorry.
01:01:10No, you guys are good.
01:01:10Make sure your filling sets up.
01:01:15Time for fire!
01:01:16We're gonna put in, like, a giant, like, dollop of marshmallow cream.
01:01:21And then we torped it with a little torch.
01:01:23You know, Harper and Holland work really well as a team.
01:01:27I mean, for them to be, like, sisters and get along so well like this, it's impressive.
01:01:32Yeah.
01:01:33And then we put on the little, um, graham cracker crumbs and it is ready to rock.
01:01:42Three minutes!
01:01:44Okay.
01:01:45Okay, so...
01:01:45So now it's crumble time.
01:01:47Don't, like, do anything bad.
01:01:48Just, like, should we break them up into small pieces?
01:01:51We, um...
01:01:52Yeah?
01:01:52I got the pie.
01:01:54We got our pie out of the oven and we didn't have anything on top besides some slow cookies.
01:01:58So, I feel like it's one of the worst things we've ever made, to be honest.
01:02:03Do you think that was three more?
01:02:05One minute!
01:02:07Wait, does this look done to you?
01:02:09I think it looks great.
01:02:10It's nice and golden brown.
01:02:12Oh, yeah, this does look pretty cute.
01:02:15Melody, it actually looks good.
01:02:17The crust didn't burn.
01:02:18Perfect.
01:02:19Do you think this looks like a lot of decorations?
01:02:22Okay, I don't like the leaves.
01:02:23You don't like them?
01:02:24Okay.
01:02:25There, that looks pretty.
01:02:26It looks too crowded in my opinion.
01:02:29It looks like these.
01:02:30Okay.
01:02:32Okay, that's cute.
01:02:34One more.
01:02:34Oh, dang it.
01:02:36That is it!
01:02:38Get ready for your final taste.
01:02:41Final taste.
01:02:43What if we get eliminated?
01:02:45I like it!
01:02:50Time for pie.
01:02:52Let's eat!
01:02:53Come on in, Macy and Emmett.
01:02:55We're going in to our final judging.
01:02:59And I'm like, nervous.
01:03:02I'm excited.
01:03:04Full.
01:03:04Stop picking your ear.
01:03:07Okay, Macy and Emmett, tell us about your pie.
01:03:10This is an heirloom recipe by our mamma.
01:03:14It is a fresh raspberry pie with a golden flaky crust, a lemon whipped cream, and a little chocolate rose.
01:03:24Well, you know, looking at this pie, I gotta tell you, it looks pretty good.
01:03:31It really does.
01:03:32It looks nice.
01:03:33You got a nice crimp going all the way around.
01:03:36Your crust looks flaky, and there's a lot of color on there.
01:03:40Get a lot of color, that means you're gonna get a lot of flavor.
01:03:42I think you have made your mamma proud.
01:03:47All right, let's taste it.
01:03:52That is pretty good.
01:03:55Somehow you've managed to let the raspberry shine without making it too sweet.
01:04:01It is just really great.
01:04:03Raspberry, it's a great pie.
01:04:05This crust is better than most of the crust that the adults make on the Holiday Baking Championship.
01:04:10I'm not kidding.
01:04:11This is amazing.
01:04:12It's really good.
01:04:13But you need more salt in there, because it's got a lot of sugar in your filling.
01:04:17So you need that salt to really balance it out and bring out that flavor.
01:04:20Other than that, I got no notes.
01:04:22This was an excellent pie.
01:04:25Take it easy.
01:04:26Oh my gosh.
01:04:28This is a really great crust.
01:04:30Flaky, tender, not at all chewy.
01:04:33Not at all.
01:04:34Okay, so that was super well.
01:04:35Yeah, that was super well.
01:04:37I think we're going to make it into the crumble.
01:04:39Yeah.
01:04:42Kambia Kambia.
01:04:44Today we made a spicy peach pie with a cookie crust and a brown sugar crumble.
01:04:51I do think that maybe in your crumble there might have been just a little bit too much butter.
01:04:55Butter? Okay.
01:04:56Because it looks like it melted just a little bit.
01:04:58But on the whole, I think this is a pretty nice looking pie.
01:05:01Okay.
01:05:01Yeah.
01:05:02Your peaches are cooked perfectly.
01:05:05I could eat a bowl of just your peaches.
01:05:08I think the black pepper and the peaches are really fascinating.
01:05:13But your crust on the bottom is not crispy.
01:05:18Hi, Layla.
01:05:19Hi, Melody.
01:05:19So today we made a pecan pie.
01:05:23Traditionally, pecan pies don't have a lattice.
01:05:25Yeah.
01:05:25The fact that you guys chose to do that I think is really impressive.
01:05:29And you know, girls, this does look like a great pecan pie, but I think your crust shrunk.
01:05:34Yeah.
01:05:35Yeah.
01:05:35I noticed that when I took it out of the oven.
01:05:38Yeah.
01:05:39All right.
01:05:39Let's taste it.
01:05:41Yum.
01:05:44Uh-oh.
01:05:45All right.
01:05:46This looks like a no-goo situation.
01:05:47That would be a lot of goo.
01:05:51This pecan pie had potential.
01:05:55It has really great flavor.
01:05:58The goo that you kind of managed to get in there.
01:06:00Yeah.
01:06:01It's really tasty.
01:06:02You need more of it.
01:06:03Okay.
01:06:04Pecan pie should be luscious and gooey and sticky and firm.
01:06:09So when I heard the news that we didn't have enough goo, I like rethought all my decisions
01:06:16and I was like, why did I listen to Melody and why did I take the goo out of the
01:06:21pie in the first place?
01:06:23I didn't tell you to take it out.
01:06:24I'm like, why is it so liquidy?
01:06:26You just grab a nap.
01:06:26Can't you just start dipping it?
01:06:28Okay.
01:06:28Next question.
01:06:29I didn't tell you to do that.
01:06:30And unfortunately, I think the bottom of your crust is raw.
01:06:36Pecan pie should never read dry.
01:06:39And this one kind of reads a little bit dry.
01:06:41Okay.
01:06:42All right.
01:06:42Thank you, ladies.
01:06:45All right.
01:06:46Harper and Holland.
01:06:48You know, my heart's racing.
01:06:50I'm so nervous because this is going to like seal our feet once they taste this pie.
01:06:55I think our pie could be more set, but I think it's set enough that it won't kick us out
01:07:00of the coffin.
01:07:01Look out world.
01:07:01It's Harper and Holland.
01:07:03Hi.
01:07:03Hi.
01:07:04Hi.
01:07:05Tell us about your pie.
01:07:06It's a s'mores pie.
01:07:08It's a s'mores pie.
01:07:08So it's a graham cracker crumb crust with a chocolate filling, homemade toasted marshmallow cream on top.
01:07:15And then it has a crumble topping, which is graham cracker flavored.
01:07:18Ladies, I got to tell you, this pie looks really good.
01:07:20I think maybe your pieces on top might be a little big.
01:07:24I think if you made them a little smaller, it could like kind of, you know, crumble them up a
01:07:28little bit more.
01:07:29But other than that, I mean, I just want to dive in there.
01:07:32My only concern is, is this going to slice really well?
01:07:37Has it set up?
01:07:38Fingers crossed.
01:07:39All right.
01:07:40Ooh.
01:07:40I love you.
01:07:42I really love the colds.
01:07:44You love me too?
01:07:45Here we go.
01:07:46Oh my gosh.
01:07:50Did it?
01:07:51Oh.
01:07:52It did.
01:07:53Yes.
01:07:54Yes.
01:07:56Oh, oh, oh.
01:07:57Oh, no.
01:07:58No.
01:07:59Why did I do that?
01:08:01Why did I do that?
01:08:02I did not need to do that.
01:08:03No, you don't.
01:08:04That's yours.
01:08:04I did not.
01:08:04Yeah, you're not getting it.
01:08:06I'll do that.
01:08:07You sure you don't want that piece?
01:08:09No, that's okay.
01:08:13It is definitely a skosh loose, but not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.
01:08:18Please like it.
01:08:19Please like it.
01:08:20Please like it.
01:08:20Please like it.
01:08:21Please like it.
01:08:21Please like it.
01:08:23I could eat half of that thing.
01:08:25It is really good.
01:08:26I love all the flavors that you have in here.
01:08:28I feel like I need more chocolate flavor.
01:08:31Your crust is set up pretty nicely.
01:08:34Bye.
01:08:35Thank you for your feedback.
01:08:38Hi, Lee and Kira.
01:08:39Hello.
01:08:40Hi.
01:08:40Today, we made a speculous cookie lime pie.
01:08:44With raspberry puree and raspberry whipped cream.
01:08:49Yeah, you know, I really wish you had, you know, really thought about the decoration a little more.
01:08:55You know, this is pretty sloppy.
01:08:57Oh.
01:08:59This is beautiful work, you two.
01:09:02I mean, just beautiful.
01:09:05The way that you have all these different colors of pink all over it.
01:09:09Your crust is really even on top.
01:09:11I got no notes.
01:09:14Whoa.
01:09:15Ooh.
01:09:17Whoa.
01:09:24This is probably one of the best key lime pies I've ever tasted.
01:09:30The lime curd is beautiful.
01:09:34I think your crust is delicious.
01:09:37It's a little soft in a couple of spots.
01:09:39And a crust like this, I really want it to be a little crispier.
01:09:42Did you take the raspberry puree out of the fridge and just like dollop it on top?
01:09:48It's just raspberry puree.
01:09:50Don't just pull something out and stick it on your dessert.
01:09:53Manipulate it somehow.
01:09:54And taste it first, right?
01:09:55You taste it.
01:09:56I mean, you would have tasted that and been like...
01:10:02Hello.
01:10:02All right.
01:10:03Hi, Abigail and Kenneth.
01:10:04We made a peach pie.
01:10:06I did a lattice.
01:10:07We did a lattice.
01:10:08We did.
01:10:09Your lattice is spot on.
01:10:12This is really, really nice.
01:10:15This is a beautiful crust.
01:10:18It is flaky.
01:10:20The peaches are juicy and delicious.
01:10:23There's not enough goo.
01:10:25All of your goo solidified because I think there was too much flour.
01:10:30Now, everything tastes good, but it didn't incorporate well.
01:10:33Okay.
01:10:34All right, Liam and Michael, dudes!
01:10:36Dudes!
01:10:37Dudes!
01:10:39I don't think it's going to go amazing, but we just got to put on a big smile and go
01:10:44with confidence and just say, hey, this isn't our best thing, but we tried.
01:10:50So, we made a flaky pie crust with an apple pie filling, and then we made cookies kind of like
01:10:56New York themed on top with the rest of the pie dough.
01:11:00I don't know.
01:11:01I don't know if that's the Statue of Liberty or like Michael Jordan on a sneaker like this.
01:11:04Yeah, you're right.
01:11:05You're right.
01:11:05That's what it looks like.
01:11:06I don't know.
01:11:08Well, your crust here looks like it's baked.
01:11:11It's a little messy, right?
01:11:12It is.
01:11:13We are.
01:11:13It's kind of stuck to the sides.
01:11:16You got a big dip here.
01:11:18Overall, it looks like I'm going to need a glass of milk with this pie.
01:11:22It looks a little dry.
01:11:23It does.
01:11:24Little dry.
01:11:25There were some problems.
01:11:26Ton of problems.
01:11:27But you got something on the plate, which is really good.
01:11:31Now, we will see how that something tastes.
01:11:34Oh!
01:11:34Oh, don't do that.
01:11:36It's just like...
01:11:37That was amazing.
01:11:39It's not our best.
01:11:42It's not awful.
01:11:44It's better than nothing.
01:11:46It's not awful.
01:11:46The apples actually do have a nice flavor.
01:11:49Yeah.
01:11:50There's really nice cinnamon.
01:11:51Did you put a little bit of lemon juice in there?
01:11:53No, actually.
01:11:53No?
01:11:54Okay.
01:11:56There's some acidity coming from somewhere.
01:11:57I don't know.
01:11:58Yeah.
01:11:59But the bottom of the crust is completely raw.
01:12:02Yeah.
01:12:02It's not one of our best works.
01:12:04It's okay.
01:12:05Hey, the piece of your crust that's actually baked through
01:12:08is well-seasoned and crispy.
01:12:11You guys, you gave it your best shot.
01:12:14Didn't make a great pie.
01:12:15Don't despair, all right?
01:12:17Okay.
01:12:17Thank you so much.
01:12:18Thank you guys so much.
01:12:20You guys are a lot of fun.
01:12:22Okay, see you guys.
01:12:23You don't have to eat at all.
01:12:24You got it.
01:12:26I think we did all right.
01:12:28I think we could have done a lot better on a lot of things.
01:12:31I mean, that's kind of being generous.
01:12:32That's fair.
01:12:33But I don't know if it's enough to make it on the show.
01:12:36It might be.
01:12:37We just don't know.
01:12:37Anything can happen.
01:12:42All right.
01:12:43Nora and Olivia, how's it going?
01:12:44Good.
01:12:45We made a raspberry mousse pie with a graham cracker crust.
01:12:50And on top is a lemon whipped cream and raspberries.
01:12:54Your crust, it's a little uneven right here on top.
01:12:58But overall, I think this is a good looking pie.
01:13:03Your filling is beautiful.
01:13:05It's set up, but not too much.
01:13:07Lots of raspberry flavor.
01:13:09I think your crust is a little too crumbly.
01:13:11Okay.
01:13:11Okay.
01:13:12I need a little bit more butter, a little bit more sugar.
01:13:14It just needs a little bit more glue to hold it together.
01:13:17Okay.
01:13:18All right.
01:13:18Claire and Amelia, what have you made for us today?
01:13:20So we made a berry pie.
01:13:24And so it's raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries.
01:13:27Ooh.
01:13:28And then we made a flaky pie crust.
01:13:31It almost looks like I'm looking over a fence and I see a hummingbird going to take a drink out
01:13:37of a tulip.
01:13:37And I just think it's really, really beautiful.
01:13:40I just, I love that.
01:13:42I do wish that the crust around the edge just came up a little bit more.
01:13:47Yeah.
01:13:48Moment of truth.
01:13:49This is the moment.
01:13:50Here we go.
01:13:51Uh-oh.
01:13:55Yes.
01:13:58Yay.
01:13:59That's so good.
01:14:04Did you put any extracts or anything in there?
01:14:06So there's vanilla extract in the filling along with lemon zest and lemon juice.
01:14:12Oh, yeah.
01:14:13I don't know, you guys.
01:14:14This is really, really tart.
01:14:16I mean, it's like absolutely no sugar.
01:14:19All lemon juice.
01:14:21Uh-oh.
01:14:22Woo!
01:14:23It is very, it's pretty tart.
01:14:27Oh, yeah.
01:14:27Right?
01:14:28Really, I don't think it needed the lemon.
01:14:30Okay.
01:14:31Okay.
01:14:31It's really ripe.
01:14:32Okay.
01:14:33I love all the berries.
01:14:34The crust on the back is really nice and it's flaky.
01:14:38Fortunately, on the bottom, it's a little raw.
01:14:40It's a little undercooked down here.
01:14:44I'm like a little nervous because I'm worried we're going to get eliminated and that would
01:14:48be really sad.
01:14:49I don't want to go in our last work.
01:14:51Me either.
01:14:52We got this.
01:14:53Yep.
01:14:54I like took a bite and I was like, mmm.
01:14:56Yeah.
01:14:57That went high.
01:14:58Perfect.
01:15:00Hi, Joby and Lenore.
01:15:02Hello.
01:15:03Hello.
01:15:04So, we made a coconut pie.
01:15:06It's a traditional, just flaky pie crust.
01:15:09I love all these leaves on top and it's really cool.
01:15:12And then all the coconut underneath is like a really, really nice effect.
01:15:19I mean, it really looks like a fall pile of leaves that you're kind of stomping through,
01:15:24you know?
01:15:24Yes.
01:15:26The back crust has great amount of salt.
01:15:29It's flaky.
01:15:30It's buttery.
01:15:31Mmm.
01:15:32It's really good.
01:15:33Butter.
01:15:34Unfortunately, the bottom crust is under.
01:15:37The filling's delicious.
01:15:38Really coconutty and really good.
01:15:42Hello, Genesis and Akbar.
01:15:45Okay, so we made a sweet potato pie for our pie crust toppings.
01:15:50We did two flours.
01:15:51I love the crust.
01:15:53It's like shiny and it has so much color to it.
01:15:57It looks buttery, too.
01:15:58Yeah.
01:15:59All right, let's taste it.
01:16:00Oh, yes.
01:16:01It's held up.
01:16:01Look at that.
01:16:02That is a nice looking slice of pie.
01:16:05Yeah, it is.
01:16:08Your sweet potato pie filling is so luscious and not too sweet.
01:16:15The sweet potato still kind of shines in there.
01:16:18Now, the crust.
01:16:19Yeah.
01:16:20This part of your crust is baked through.
01:16:23Uh-huh.
01:16:24But the bottom, you see the clear lines?
01:16:27Yeah.
01:16:28It's under bake.
01:16:29Okay.
01:16:30If you just baked that bottom, this would be close to perfect.
01:16:33Really?
01:16:34Wow.
01:16:37Hello, Abby and Cameron.
01:16:39Philly is in the house.
01:16:41Yeah.
01:16:41Oh, yeah.
01:16:42Happy Thanksgiving.
01:16:43Yeah.
01:16:44Right?
01:16:44You made the stuffing.
01:16:45Where's the pie?
01:16:47Come on, look at that.
01:16:48It looks like stuffing.
01:16:49I mean, that's good.
01:16:50So, what is this actually?
01:16:54So, it's an apple pie with a brown sugar crumble and whipped cream.
01:17:00Looks interesting.
01:17:01Yeah.
01:17:01If I walked in and I saw that, I don't think I would have known it was a pie.
01:17:07Okay.
01:17:07Yeah.
01:17:08And I think it's because the crust has shrunken down.
01:17:11Okay.
01:17:11Let's see what it tastes like.
01:17:14Oh, no.
01:17:16Oh.
01:17:18There's a lot of things going on here.
01:17:20Yeah.
01:17:21It looks like that bottom crust might be a little raw.
01:17:23Yeah.
01:17:25We need more goo.
01:17:30Your whipped cream is great.
01:17:31That's good.
01:17:32Yeah.
01:17:33The spices that you used are really good and they're balanced.
01:17:36It's not too much.
01:17:38Not a complete disaster, but close.
01:17:41Okay.
01:17:42Could have been worse.
01:17:42You guys, thanks so much.
01:17:45I tell you, Abby and Cameron, I was expecting a little more from them.
01:17:50Yes.
01:17:50You know?
01:17:51That was not our best work.
01:17:53It's so many bad things.
01:17:54Yeah.
01:17:55It's not good.
01:17:56We might go home.
01:17:57I think we will.
01:17:58Yeah.
01:17:59It was fun though.
01:18:00I enjoyed it.
01:18:01Yeah.
01:18:03All right.
01:18:03Well, we got our work cut out for us.
01:18:05We can only put through 10 of these teams.
01:18:08Mm-hmm.
01:18:08Let's talk about our top teams first.
01:18:11Genesis and Akbar, that sweet potato pie was delicious.
01:18:14I want to see Leah and Kira.
01:18:16Yeah.
01:18:17They filled truffles on their cupcake and a beautiful pie.
01:18:23All right.
01:18:23Now, on the other side of the coin, who do we think is on the bubble?
01:18:26I got to throw down Abby and Cameron.
01:18:30It did not look like an apple pie.
01:18:32And there was not enough goo.
01:18:34It was not enough glue to keep everything together either.
01:18:36We're not feeling that great about it.
01:18:38We messed up a lot on our pie, so we're thinking that we could probably go home.
01:18:43I need you to throw down Liam and Michael.
01:18:45Aw, dude bros.
01:18:46Dude bros.
01:18:47I love these two.
01:18:49That pie.
01:18:50Oh, God bless them.
01:18:51I think we tried our best and that's all we could do.
01:18:55I don't want to, but I have to.
01:18:57I have to throw down Clara and Amelia.
01:19:00The smiley sisters are the cutest.
01:19:03Yeah.
01:19:03That pie.
01:19:04Ah.
01:19:06Like.
01:19:07I'm really worried.
01:19:09We had some problems with our pie.
01:19:11I don't want to go home.
01:19:12I hate to say it, but I got to put down Layla and Melody.
01:19:15Their pecan pie.
01:19:17No goo whatsoever.
01:19:19I feel like we're going to go home.
01:19:21I feel like the pie was the main and the big thing about the skills test and we really
01:19:26flopped on the pie and kind of all the buttercream of the cupcakes.
01:19:31We're going to have to send two of these teams home before the competition even starts.
01:19:36But this is the tryouts and somebody has to get cut.
01:19:40We've really put you guys through the ring.
01:19:43Two skills tests and two complete desserts from scratch.
01:19:47Way to step up under nerve-wracking circumstances.
01:19:50And we wanted to single out some of the teams for specific achievements.
01:19:55The team that most impressed us with their decorating skills is Leah and Kira.
01:20:05Nice work, ladies.
01:20:09Flavor-wise, the team that knocked it out of the park is Genesis and Akbar.
01:20:22All right, lastly, we want to give a big shout-out to the siblings who showed the most teamwork overall.
01:20:30That is going to Harper & Holland.
01:20:37Good teamwork. Good teamwork.
01:20:39All right, enough of the warm and fuzzy stuff.
01:20:41We've got some serious business to get to.
01:20:44As you know, there are 12 teams in this kitchen.
01:20:47And only 10 teams will make it out of these tryouts and into the competition.
01:20:51Okay.
01:20:52The bottom three teams are...
01:20:55Clara and Amelia.
01:20:57Layla and Melody.
01:21:00Liam and Michael, please step forward.
01:21:07Clara and Amelia, you struggled with the cupcakes and your pie was a sour bomb.
01:21:15Layla and Amelia.
01:21:16Layla and Melody, the frosting on your cupcakes wasn't so great.
01:21:19And your pecan pie had zero goop.
01:21:23Liam and Michael.
01:21:24Yeah.
01:21:25Your cupcakes had issues.
01:21:27And your apple pie had several problems.
01:21:30Yeah.
01:21:31No matter what happens, we hope you all continue your baking journey.
01:21:36The team who will be going on to the competition is...
01:21:42Okay.
01:21:48Layla and Melody.
01:21:49Oh, my God.
01:21:50Oh, my good job.
01:21:52We made it into the competition.
01:21:55Woo-hoo!
01:21:56Unfortunately, that means that the two teams that are leaving us are...
01:22:00Liam and Michael, and Clara and Amelia.
01:22:03Yeah.
01:22:04It's okay.
01:22:05It was an amazing experience.
01:22:07It was an amazing experience.
01:22:08It was an amazing experience.
01:22:08Definitely would do it again.
01:22:09I think we're gonna keep on baking.
01:22:11Even though we didn't make it, we always look on the bright side of life.
01:22:15Okay?
01:22:18We're so sorry.
01:22:19We love getting to know you all.
01:22:22Good job.
01:22:23Keep baking.
01:22:26Bye.
01:22:27Even though we didn't make it into the competition, we made it so far already.
01:22:31And, like, even just getting here was, like, really cool.
01:22:37How great was it to have this experience together as brothers?
01:22:41One of the best I've ever had.
01:22:51Congratulations, bakers.
01:22:53You will be battling to become baking champions.
01:22:57Woo-hoo!
01:22:59I'm, like, screaming!
01:23:01My whole body is so excited!
01:23:05Get some rest, guys, because the next time we see you all, the competition really begins.
01:23:14This season on Baking Championship Next Gen.
01:23:18This guy, always eating.
01:23:21Bam!
01:23:21The teams dig deep to win $25,000.
01:23:24I'm way too type A for this.
01:23:26Abby, it's okay.
01:23:27You're gonna have to learn to trust me.
01:23:29And become baking champions.
01:23:31Is it good?
01:23:32Oh, yeah.
01:23:33I was gonna like that.
01:23:34These pastry bosses show off their skills.
01:23:36This is beautiful.
01:23:38Oh.
01:23:39Their teamwork.
01:23:40Oh.
01:23:42And their incredible talent.
01:23:44Are you all sure that an adult didn't make this?
01:23:47Are you all imposters?
01:23:49That's us.
01:23:50We're actually 40 years old.
01:23:52All leading up to the biggest moment of them all.
