00:00Hello, I'm Jeremy Vine and great news, we have another crop of willing celebrities ready
00:05in inverted commas to take on a series of brain-teasing, head-scratching puzzles. Join
00:09them and me on the other side of this tasteful title sequence because this is a brand new
00:15series of Celebrity Puzzling. Welcome to Celebrity Puzzling. First things first, let's say hello
00:36to our brilliant team captains fighting out of the red corner from North Wales. No lightweight
00:40when it comes to quizzing, it is Carol Vorderman, no less. Facing her is an actor who thinks
00:47that more older people should be on telly. Easy for her to say, she's only 27. It's the
00:53fabulous Sally Lindsay. I wish. Okay, now we meet our latest puzzle plus ones. With Carol
01:00tonight is a presenter who once played the drums for 24 solid hours. His neighbours must
01:04love him. It's Owen Winn-Evans. Thank you. And joining Sally, a comedian who once told
01:12499 jokes in an hour. That was a long Christmas dinner, I can tell you.
01:17It's my own brother, Tim Boyd! Hey! Welcome, everyone. Now, the funny thing I discovered the
01:24other night is that you, Owen, and you, Carol, are great mates because we went out for dinner.
01:28We go on holidays. Yes. And we've managed to find a holiday photo. Yes, come on, we can
01:35see this. So that's Carol on the right. What is going on here? So we went and had a little
01:43Halloween adventure, didn't we, darling? In Italy, in Florence. Yeah. You are Morticia
01:49Adams. I was Morticia Adams. Oh, how wonderful. We weren't sure who you were. I was actually one
01:53of the witches from Hocus Pocus. It looks like it's been a good night. It was. Oh, what a lovely
01:58thing. Friends playing together is always a danger. Tim, bro. Yes. Now, talking of TV heroes
02:05and heroines, you had a little brush with Neighbours. Well, well, I was in Neighbours,
02:09very brief. Come on, tell us. But only between the Melbourne Comedy Festival, and I said to
02:14my agent, as a joke, really, can you see if you can get me on Neighbours? And I think they
02:18thought
02:18he was someone else, actually, when they got in touch, because they thought he was high up
02:23in television, or I don't know what happened. But either way, they said, yeah, you've got
02:27two choices. You can either have Tim doing his act in Lassiter's, or he can be asking directions.
02:32And I said, I'd like to ask directions, please. So I was outside Lassiter's going, can you
02:37tell me where Lassiter's is, please? But I had a great time. When I was out there, I swam
02:42with dolphins, and I actually had to dress up as a dolphin to do it, which, to be honest,
02:46I needed, like, a hole in the head. But we had a great time. Now, me and those dolphins,
02:52we just clicked. So, each episode, our teams face a bunch of puzzles, six in total, which
02:59we picked from our extensive back catalogue. They're all brilliant. That's the puzzles,
03:03not necessarily the players. For the winning celebrity guest, I've got a little bit of a
03:07surprise for you. You thought you were going away empty-handed. But no, if you win, you will
03:11get this, the celebrity puzzling cube. Oh, my gosh, I won. Without further ado, time to find
03:20out the identity of round one, let's get puzzling. This first round will test how good you are
03:24at cracking codes. Cypher. Ooh. Ooh, says I wine. OK, so I'll give you a category clue,
03:32and then I'm going to show you the puzzle you've got to solve, which is concealed by a
03:35code of symbols. This is just an example. It's a colour. So, you're looking at, yeah,
03:40Sally's onto it, so the division symbols doubled up, so it would be classically a double T, a double
03:44O or something, which is for three points if you get it without a clue. If Carol says,
03:48give me a letter, it then goes down to two points. We give you a letter, and now we see
03:52that's E. Something green, isn't it? Let's say we're still struggling. We have one more
03:56letter. Now it goes down to one point. Now that's an R. Oh, there we are. OK, so we've
04:00got it. Emerald green. Yeah. It's not a colour, is it? Carol and Owen, if you're ready to
04:07play, here's your first cypher. Two words. Six letter, eight letter. TV presenter. All right,
04:14OK. So what's that rabbit? Is it? No, it's not Stephen, Claudia, Holly. I'm going through
04:21all of them now. Do you want a letter? Yes, please do. Give us a letter. All right, so let
04:30me
04:31the jellyfish is, appropriately, J. John. Jeremy, because the rabbits. Yes, Jeremy Clarkson.
04:41Yep. Jeremy Clarkson. Is that the right answer? Yes. Yes. Well done. Here is the first one
04:49for Sally and Tim. OK. OK, come on, guys, here we go. Film director. Steven Spielberg, because
04:56it can't be, because it's the drums. The drums are too much, yeah. Too much. Scorsese, what's his
05:02first name? Trevor. Do you want a letter? Yeah, a letter, please. OK, so it's no longer worth three,
05:10it's worth two, and here's the letter. So that is an E. That looks like Stephen. S-T-V. Oh,
05:18hang on.
05:19Is it Stephen Spielberg? Because it's a V, not a P-H. Oh, yeah, you're right, and it's
05:25I-E-L-B-E-R-G, isn't it? Yeah, Stephen, sorry, we got it right the first time. Stephen
05:31Spielberg. Is it Stephen Spielberg? Yeah. But I think, I remember reading the rules, and
05:37we can back-date that to our earlier guests, won't we? Yeah, yeah. Carolyn, no way. Here's
05:43yours. Oh, right. Oh. Cold fun. We've got two poos at the end. Yes. Skiing, downhill skier,
05:55downhill racer. I can give you a letter if you want it. Should we take a letter, or do you
06:00want a second? No, give us a letter. OK, let's have a look at a letter, if we can. Goes
06:07Yeah, there we go. Ooh. So I would say it's downhill. Downhill. Cold fun, so skiing, downhill
06:15racer. Oh, no, because you can't have two Rs in it, can you? No, that's true. Would you
06:20like another one? Yeah, let's have another letter. OK, takes you down to one point if you get it
06:25right now, and the other letter is S-O. Oh. So it's not downhill. Snowball fight. Snowball
06:32fight. Yeah. It's got to be. Yeah. Is it snowball fight?
06:37Yeah. Well done, you've got there. Sally and Tim, your next cipher is there. Six letters,
06:44five letters, award. Oh, I think I know immediately. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think, well, I think it's
06:49probably going to be Golden Globe. Yeah. That would be my guess, because of the two beginning
06:53letters being the same. Yeah. So you're going Golden Globe, are you? Without seeing, you don't
07:07one. Oh, now it might get harder. So your final ones. Here's yours, Carolyn. Oh, I'm. Oh,
07:17OK. Pizza. What kind of pizzas are there? Flavours. Which is two words also. Yeah. Margarita,
07:26four seasons. You're on three points now if you get it, but would you like a letter?
07:32Yes, please. OK, here we go. Let's reveal a letter and the infinity symbol at the start.
07:37Oh. Ooh. Oh, I see. Is it quattro? No, it's not. No, because it's got two minus signs there.
07:46Yeah, but that would be two teas. Ah, yes. Yes, it is. You're right. Go on. Quattro. Quattro.
07:53Quattro. It's for cheese, isn't it? Yeah. Quattro from... Formaggio. G. G. Formaggi.
08:00Formaggi. Quattro formaggi. Well done. That's right. Well done. So, final cipher of soul for Sally
08:08and Tim. Here we go. What? Five words, children's book. Oh, OK. Oh, heck. Oh. The...
08:15So, it's the, of the... Or in the, yeah. Oh, yeah. In... The children's book. Er...
08:23Black Beauty. He's a dark horse. Er... Tim! Sorry. Er... Let me think. Er...
08:31Can I offer you a letter? Yes, please. OK, let's have a letter. So, that's an I. It's pretty much
08:38what we'd already worked out. Can we have another one, please? Let's have another letter.
08:45So that is W. The... Wind in the willows. There it is. You see? Of course it is. The wind
08:51in the willows. OK, let's have a look and see if that's right. Very good. The wind in the
08:54willows. Well done. That's right. Well done. So, at the end of that round, Carol and Elaine
09:00have five points. Not bad. Sally and Tim have six. They're leading. I've just got a bit
09:08lightheaded, then. We're in the lead. So, are you beating our celebrities at home? Well
09:14done, if so. It is time to ask our teams to move across the studio to play at our letterbox,
09:18where they will face another one of our perplexing puzzles. This time, they can play without the
09:22pressure of facing their opponents, though. So, going first, Sally and Tim, the game you're
09:26playing tonight is Initial Reaction. You're going to see a series of pictures here. So,
09:33you're looking for the initials to each picture, which in turn will spell out a word. To give
09:38you more help, we have a clue at the top. Crockery. So, let's have a little thought here. What's
09:44the first one there? C for chef. Chef. Chef. Oven. Okay. Oven is right. Chef is not right,
09:51because it hasn't come up. Let's go on to the next one. Otter. Otter. No. Weasel. Oh,
09:57weasel's right. Bog. Log. Log. Okay. Baker. Baker. So, you can see it's not, you know, it's not
10:06straightforward. It's not obvious. It's a great, we like it. We like the pictures. So, who will succeed
10:10in this round and who will get the wooden spoon? You're against the clock. You'll score
10:13three points if you solve the puzzle. So, Sally and Tim, head on over to the letterbox to play
10:17Initial Reaction. Don't forget to hit the button when you've given your answer. So, Sally and
10:24Tim, here's your first puzzle. Your time starts now. Okay. Right. Animal sound. So, is that
10:31tongue? Tongue, I think. You think? Oh, yeah. Is it sticking out of it? Okay. Eclipse, E,
10:35maybe? Eclipse. Eclipse. Okay. What's that? That's a wave. Is it a wave? What's this? Paper?
10:43Well, that's not a dart. Is that a dart? I know, it's an origami, maybe. Origami? Okay. Well,
10:47this is not right then, is it? So, eclipse. That's definitely eclipse. Oh, hang on. Mouth.
10:52You were right. Oh, meow. Yep, meow. Ah, yeah. Yes, well done, you. Good spelling of meow. Definitely. Origami.
11:02You've got a joke about everything, Tim, right? You've got a joke about origami? I have, yeah. The
11:07advantage of easy origami is twofold. I'm going to try on the next round. We'll see if you've got a
11:13joke
11:13about one of the pictures, okay? I don't even know what's coming. Okay, your second puzzle will have
11:17five letters to five. It's worth four points this time. Here it is. Your time. Start now.
11:23Body parts. Is that a leopard? Is that a leopard or a cheese? A leopard, maybe? A cheese. Right,
11:27what's that? Africa. It's Africa. Vicar. Vicar. Vicar or priest. He looks a bit Catholic to me.
11:33Oh, okay. Eye. Eye. Eye. Radish. Yeah, lapel part of the body. Oh, no, rhubarb. Oh, rhubarb.
11:41Right, so that's not right, is it? No, it's not. So, what's this then? So, is that vicar? Yes,
11:44you're right. So, that's v. And that's... Where is that? That's Africa, isn't it? Oh,
11:51it must be liver, though, yeah, whatever it is. Liver. Liver. Well done. It's India. Can I say
11:58that... Sorry, Jeremy. A friend of mine's liver is on his elbow, his spleen is on his knee,
12:05and his lungs are on the back of his head. Still, his heart's in the right place.
12:09Oh, this is a whole other show. We could just do... We show you a picture and you make
12:15a joke. Okay, here's the final puzzle. We're going to have to have a joke out of this one.
12:19Six letters to find, getting harder, worth a bumper five points. If you're ready, your
12:22time starts now. So, it's a mystery. Is it Iceland? That's... That's going to be ham there.
12:29Is that Stephanie and N? Where's the N? That's an anteater at the end there. N. Elbow. E. So,
12:36a mystery. Enigma. Enigma. It's a gammon. Gammon. Enigma. Enigma. What have we got at the end there?
12:45What is that? Is that an antelope? What is that? An anteater. Oh, an ant... So, I just couldn't
12:49see it sideways. I saw an anteater and I said to him, I said, how do you catch flying ants?
12:57And
12:57okay, well done. How did you get on at home? Very good effort by Sally and Tim. Maximum
13:02marks 12. Very good. Smiling. Carol and Owen. Now, Owen, you haven't done this one before.
13:08How are you feeling? No. Well, I feel like the pressure's on after that. Do I have to
13:11deliver jokes as well? Well, you certainly can if you would like to. I'll just give you
13:15some drumsticks. I can do that, Sal. Yeah, yeah. It's just thinking time, to be honest
13:19with you. So, there we go. Okay. Stop what you're doing. Don't move a muscle. It's time
13:24for a quick break. We'll see you for more celebrity puzzling after these
13:27important messages. If you want to keep puzzling, see if you can complete the
13:34vertical word to solve this thirdle. Best of luck.
13:45Puzzlers, did you manage to complete the thirdle? If you did, great puzzling.
13:55Welcome back to Celebrity Puzzling. We've been expecting you. We've hit pause halfway through
13:58our latest round. It's now time for Carol and Owen to play Initial Reaction. And you two
14:03are great buddies. I think you'll be in sync. Whether that helps or whether it helps to have
14:07two minds... I think he's going to be... You're much more visual than I am.
14:10Yes. You've got two big brains here, there's no question. You're going to see four pictures. Your job
14:15is to work out what they are and then take the initials from each word to spell the answer. You'll
14:19score three points if you solve this first puzzle. You're against the clock. Here's your first puzzle.
14:24Your time starts now. River. River. Toast. Toast. That's a yo-yo, is it? Yeah. Yeah. Tine, it'll be.
14:34Yeah, that's a Y there. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Nail, electric toothbrush. Yeah. I'll put the E. You've got that on
14:41an N.
14:41There we go. River time. Well done. The button is finished. Toast, yo-yo, nail, electric toothbrush. Yeah. Yeah.
14:49Vogue on the time. OK, your second puzzle will have five letters to find. It is worth four points. Your
14:54time starts now.
14:57Clothing, accessory. It's a fan. Asparagus. Put the A in there. A. And that's... Is that a seal?
15:05Seal or a walrus. Is that a... What's that? Is that a cream tea? A scone?
15:13Scarf? No. Scarf. Oh, yes, and Ronald Reagan. Yes. Very good. OK, yeah, so it was Ronald Reagan.
15:22Four points. It's worth a bumper. Five points, this next one. If you're ready, your time starts now.
15:27The clue is birds. A bird. Is that a pogo? Well, that's Idris Elba. That looks like a pogo stick.
15:34Yeah.
15:35A bird. Yeah. Oil. So that could be... That's Easter Island. I've got a feeling it's pigeon.
15:42Yes. Oil, OK. OK, N and a G.
15:47I don't know what that is. Gandal. I don't know.
15:49Right, well, you're right. So we've got a pogo stick. Idris Elba. That's a goose, actually.
15:55Easter Island. Easter Island. And then we have, as you say, oil. And what was that?
15:58Nectarine. I can't see it. That's right. Nectarine. Yeah.
16:02Head back to your seats. We'll check the scoreboard.
16:08How many points did you rack up at home? Well done, Carol and Owain.
16:12Your visit to the letterbox scored you 12 points. Maximum.
16:17So let's see the overall scores. This will be interesting.
16:20Carol and Owain on 17.
16:23Oh. Sally and Tim on 18.
16:25Oh! That's very good.
16:29Our next puzzling round is all about shapes that shift around.
16:32And it's, of course, the one we use our famous catchphrase on.
16:35This is shapeshifters.
16:40The catchphrase is coming quite soon,
16:41so I don't want you to jump the gun on that.
16:43We'll see an example of how this works.
16:45You will see a grid of answers, a question and a corresponding shape.
16:50So here we have Canadian provinces.
16:51And two squares next to each other.
16:54So you've got to find two correct examples of Canadian provinces
16:57which sit beside each other.
16:59And here's the catchphrase.
17:00As Sally and Carol both know, you can't...
17:03Rotate the shape.
17:04Rotate the shape, Jeremy.
17:05Can't rotate. Sorry, I'm doing it.
17:06You can't rotate the shape, Jeremy.
17:09That's good.
17:10So, Canadian provinces.
17:12What are we like here? Just out of interest.
17:14Manitoba, Quebec.
17:15Manitoba.
17:16OK.
17:16Quebec, Manitoba.
17:18Yes.
17:19Yeah, very good, Carol.
17:20There are three others.
17:21About a third of Canada's population lives in Ontario.
17:24Mm-hm.
17:25Alberta named after Queen Victoria's daughter.
17:28British Columbia, capital Victoria.
17:30Did you know in Canada there's an average of two people
17:33per square kilometre?
17:34Which is a nightmare if you want a game of badminton.
17:37LAUGHTER
17:39So, Sally and Tim up first.
17:41Here's your puzzle for two points.
17:44People born in the 1950s.
17:46OK.
17:46Oh, thanks a bunch.
17:48OK, so if you're born in the 50s, you're in your 60s.
17:50One square above the other.
17:51Well, he's not the same age as my husband,
17:53so he's born in 65, so it's not him.
17:55That one, Jeremy Vine.
17:56Correct.
17:57I think it's either Simon Cowell and Rowan Atkinson
17:59or it's Stanley Tucci, Liam Neeson.
18:01So, Simon Cowell, then, would have to be 65
18:05to be born in the 50s, wouldn't he?
18:07And Rowan Atkinson would be...
18:08Can I take a risk here?
18:09Go.
18:10I think it's...
18:11Oh, dear.
18:11Go on, just do it.
18:12Rowan Atkinson, Simon Cowell, watch this.
18:14Rowan Atkinson and Simon Cowell.
18:16What's this?
18:16Is that the right answer?
18:18Get in.
18:21Simon Cowell and Rowan Atkinson are born in the 50s.
18:25They were well done.
18:26So, the others you could have said,
18:28Liam Neeson, Richard Branson.
18:30Definitely would have known that.
18:31They're not in the right position on the board.
18:33There we go.
18:34Carol and Owen, here's your first shapeshifters.
18:36Go on.
18:38Yeah.
18:38Units of measurement named after people.
18:40Oh.
18:41That's very interesting.
18:43So, there are two squares next to each other.
18:45Well, James, well, you know what?
18:48I don't know about the Ohm.
18:49I think Ohm is...
18:51Do you know?
18:52That's my guess.
18:53Newton, obviously, is after Sir Isaac Newton.
18:58I don't think Pint was, do you?
19:00I don't think so, but then...
19:02Have we heard of a Mr. Pint?
19:03Sir Pint?
19:04Or a Mr. Gallon.
19:05Do you have an Our Nights Out?
19:08There's lots of Mr. Pints we need.
19:09No, that's Mr. Gallon.
19:10Mr. Gallon on Our Nights Out.
19:14Er...
19:14This is my feeling...
19:15Yeah.
19:16..is Ohm...
19:17Mm-hm.
19:18..and...
19:19What?
19:20I would go along the very same lines as you.
19:23Yeah.
19:24Well, they are next to each other.
19:25Ohm and What?
19:26Is that the right answer?
19:28Yes.
19:28Yes.
19:29Well done.
19:29Ohm was named after Georg Simon Ohm, unit of electrical resistance,
19:37and the What is named after James What?
19:39Excellent.
19:39The other two, only two, Newton and Volt.
19:42And Volt, yeah.
19:44Sally and Tim, here's your second puzzle.
19:45The shape has increased, so you now need to find three answers.
19:49Oh, gosh.
19:50Look at that shape.
19:51Wow.
19:52Insults found in Shakespeare plays.
19:54The shape might even help you here.
19:55So it's one, then one on the diagonal, and then one above it.
19:59Your daft apeth isn't, because my gran used to call me that.
20:01Yeah.
20:02Right.
20:02Because it's a northern, your daft apeth.
20:04Shut up.
20:04I think thou art a numpty is more likely than, oh, mind you,
20:09out dunghill, you three inch full, and you bambrue cheese.
20:12I think it's that.
20:13Yeah.
20:13It's not your daft apeth.
20:14It can't be thou art numpty, Spanish was it, you useless art.
20:18It's not your useless article, is it?
20:19I suppose not.
20:20So it's got to be you bambrue cheese, out dunghill,
20:23you three inch full.
20:25Thank you Sally Lindsay.
20:26Is that the right answer?
20:28Yes it is.
20:29Well done.
20:30So, bambrue cheese is from the merry wives of Windsor,
20:34out dunghill from King John, you three inch full,
20:38the taming of the shrew.
20:39Now, there are three others.
20:41You want to just, Carol, Owen, any ideas?
20:44The other three I'm about to reveal.
20:45You want to find another one?
20:47Fastelarian is, yes.
20:49Thou art a boil.
20:50Thou art a boil is King Lear.
20:51Oh.
20:52And Fleshmonger as well.
20:53Fleshmonger.
20:54Fleshmonger is from Measure for Measure.
20:56And Fastelarian is from Henry IV Part II.
20:58Carol and Owen, here's yours.
21:00This is fun, isn't it?
21:01This round.
21:02For three points.
21:03Gordon Ramsay, TV shows.
21:05Oh, okay.
21:05And look at that, it's an L shape.
21:07So we want three in that formation.
21:08I can imagine him doing a show on the nation's worst fridge.
21:14They're totally run out of ideas.
21:16Yeah.
21:16Yeah.
21:16He definitely did the F word.
21:19I wonder if he did Kitchen Lockdown in Lockdown.
21:22That would make sense.
21:24Yeah.
21:25Definitely not Masterchef Junior.
21:27I don't think.
21:27No.
21:28No, I don't think so at all.
21:30So, I would go only because I know the F word.
21:34Yeah.
21:35Kitchen Lockdown and Cook or Die.
21:38Yeah.
21:38Bottom left, please, Jeremy.
21:40Sure.
21:41Kitchen Lockdown, the F word, cook or die, you've said.
21:44Let's see if it's right.
21:47Oh!
21:47Oh!
21:49We could pass it over for a steal.
21:51Er, let's do...
21:52You choose.
21:53Go on, the other guest.
21:54Okay.
21:54I think we should go with the one that you said didn't sound like it was any good.
21:58Let's push the whole thing up.
21:59Nation's worst fridge, Kitchen Lockdown, Bank Balance.
22:02Let's see if that's right.
22:04No.
22:04I love the idea of the nation's worst fridge.
22:07Sounds brilliant.
22:08It does.
22:08It's because some of them were in the States, so you won't necessarily be familiar.
22:11Yeah.
22:11But we'll have a look at the correct answer now.
22:14Oh!
22:14There we are.
22:15Those three.
22:16So, Gordon Behind Bars, One Series, 2012.
22:18That's in Brixton Prison.
22:20Bank Balance.
22:20Bank Balance, Quiz Show, hosted by him, One Series, 2021.
22:26Then Next Level Chef has judged, hosted and presented, et cetera, since 2022.
22:31So, yeah.
22:33Those are the right answers in the sense that they're in the right shape.
22:36What else have we got here?
22:37Let's see.
22:38Yeah.
22:39Hotel Hell, three series, 2012.
22:43The F word ran from 2005 to 2010.
22:48MasterChef Junior, he's judged since 2013.
22:51Others are all made up.
22:53Sally and Tim, here's your final one.
22:55There we go.
22:56Scottish foods.
22:57Hmm.
22:58Again, the L shape.
22:59So, three of them, please.
23:01The Parmo definitely is.
23:03Arbro Smokers definitely is.
23:05Right, okay.
23:06Stargazy Pie sounds a bit fab.
23:08I'm thinking, so you're saying Arbro Smokies, definitely.
23:11Eccles Cakes are not, they're from Eccles, which is near us.
23:15Stargazy Pie is really ringing a bell.
23:17Is it?
23:17I don't know why.
23:18We haven't got anything else, have we, so?
23:20No, but I think that's good.
23:20If you've got a feeling about that and I've got a feeling about Arbro Smokies,
23:23then that leads us to Clapshot and there's your L.
23:26Yeah.
23:26Yeah, okay.
23:28Arbro Smokies, Stargazy Pie and Clapshot, but we're really not sure.
23:32All right, where's the toughie this?
23:33Is it the right answer?
23:35Oh!
23:36Over for a steal.
23:37For a point.
23:39I feel there that...
23:41It's not Farabreath, because that's Welsh.
23:43How about Bannocks, the Amroth Smokies and the Rumbledy Thumps?
23:50All right.
23:50Is that the right answer?
23:53Yes, it is!
23:56Bannocks, yes, Oatcake, Arbro Smokies, Smoked Haddock.
24:00Rumbledy Thumps is a potato dish.
24:02I think I've eaten that, actually.
24:04If we have a look now at the other ones,
24:05Clapshot potato dish, Cullen Skink, Fish Soup,
24:09and also Scottish is Cranachan,
24:11a cream dessert with oats and raspberries.
24:14Honestly, this question alone is a whole documentary series.
24:17It's a great question.
24:18It's unbelievable how interesting food is.
24:20It's a great question.
24:20Once you get away from, you know, your average beef burger.
24:24Right, Carol and Owen, here's yours for three points.
24:27Okay.
24:28People who attended King Charles' coronation.
24:31Ah!
24:31So, look at the shape.
24:32One above the other, above the other.
24:34That is a very good question.
24:35Penny Morden was holding the kebab, wasn't she, for about six hours?
24:39The kebab?
24:40Well, there was a joke online, wasn't there?
24:43Oh, I see.
24:43Instead of the sword, I put a kebab.
24:45Sorry.
24:46How did they?
24:47Extraordinary.
24:47That's how late social media jokers landed with me literally two years after you.
24:52Fantastic.
24:53Erm, Rishi Sunak went because he was the Prime Minister.
24:57And I think, you know, above and below Rishi Sunak.
25:01I do.
25:01That's a good chance that Joanna Lumley and Ant McPartland.
25:05Yes, because Joanna Lumley is quite close with Charles, I think.
25:10Shall we go with Joanna Lumley, Rishi Sunak and Ant McPartland, darling?
25:14Yes, let's do that thing.
25:16Definitely.
25:16Is it Joanna and Rishi and Ants?
25:19Yay!
25:21Nicely done.
25:22That is not easy.
25:23Also there, Penny Mordaunt, famously.
25:25Katy Perry, Bear Grylls.
25:27OK, this is now, look at this, it's game on in a big way now.
25:30Carol and Owain, 23.
25:33Sally and Tim, 23.
25:36Oh!
25:38I don't think it could be closer.
25:41Those of you playing at home now, you should ask for our celebrities, well done if you did.
25:44Now, dear viewer, I think it was Confucius who once said,
25:47let's take a short break so we can stretch our legs
25:50and Carol can have a quick bite of her BLT.
25:52We'll see you shortly for part three.
25:58To solve this Path Words puzzle,
26:01swap the letters in just one column to reveal the answers.
26:05Get puzzling.
26:12Did you swap the correct letters and solve this Path Words puzzle?
26:16If you solved it, well done.
26:21APPLAUSE
26:22Welcome back to Celebrity Puzzling.
26:24Great to have you with us.
26:25I'm Jeremy Vine.
26:26I'm serving an eight to ten year stretch in puzzling prison.
26:29My cellmates are Carol Vorderman and Sally Lindsay.
26:32Ah, they terrify me.
26:34OK, here is where we put Tim and Owain to the test.
26:37This is time for our guest puzzler head to head.
26:39And the game is one that can go either way
26:42because it is up or down.
26:46So, Carol and Sally rest the little grey cells,
26:50as her Kilparo would call them,
26:52and allow your teammates to take the reins and the strain.
26:54Owain and Tim, here's how it works.
26:56Let me show you.
26:57You'll see a clue plus a series of letters on the screen.
27:00Each letter has been moved either up or down.
27:02Animal.
27:03So, up or down by one letter in the alphabet.
27:05So, X would have to be W or Y.
27:08Yeah.
27:09G is F or H.
27:11Anyone want to have a shout?
27:12Yeah.
27:14Is it whale?
27:16Ooh!
27:17Is it whale?
27:18Yeah.
27:18Oh, you're very good at this.
27:19Well done.
27:20There are five puzzles to solve.
27:22Fingers on buzzers.
27:24Owain and Tim.
27:25Here's your first one.
27:26Guests only.
27:27No whispering, you captains.
27:28Five letters.
27:29Category musical instrument.
27:37Tim.
27:39Flute.
27:40Is it flute?
27:42Flute.
27:45Here we go for the second.
27:49Seven letters now.
27:52Furniture.
27:52D-B-C-H-O-D-U.
27:56Up or down?
27:59Furniture.
28:02Tim.
28:03Cabinet.
28:04Cabinet.
28:05Cabinet, he says.
28:06Oh, very good.
28:07Wow.
28:09Cabinet.
28:11I can't do this though.
28:13I could not see that.
28:13No, I mean, the length of the pause was an indicator of how hard that was.
28:17Yeah.
28:17Here's the next one for you guests.
28:20We've got seven letters now.
28:22Outdoor activity.
28:23How is he?
28:26They might go up.
28:27They might go down.
28:34Owen.
28:35It's a camping.
28:36Is it camping?
28:38Yes!
28:39Very good.
28:40Well done.
28:40Thank you, darling.
28:42Well done.
28:42OK, action station.
28:43And that was tense.
28:44That was tense.
28:46That was tense.
28:47Oh, yeah.
28:48OK, next.
28:50Six letters.
28:52Tree.
28:54K, B, T, S, F, K.
28:59Begins and ends in the same letter.
29:01Up or down in the alphabet.
29:05Tim.
29:06Yeah, that's wrong.
29:07I was going to say Jasmine.
29:08Sorry, that's not...
29:09OK, we...
29:09That's wrong for so many different reasons.
29:11Give it to...
29:13Owen.
29:13I have no idea.
29:15Weirdly, I can see this one.
29:16The K's got to go the same way.
29:17So it can't start with a J and then with a J.
29:19No, no.
29:20So it must start with an L and then with an L.
29:22And then I'm thinking it's got to be Laurel.
29:23Aww.
29:23As in Laurel and Hardy.
29:24Very good.
29:25Final one here.
29:26So we've got seven letters.
29:28Mischief Maker.
29:29Ooh.
29:31H, Q, F, N, K, J, O.
29:35Oof.
29:38I don't get it at all.
29:40Mischief Maker.
29:41Where are we?
29:41Time counting down.
29:44Shift them up or down.
29:46You're out of time.
29:48Anyone?
29:48Anyone get it right at the close?
29:50No.
29:51I've got to start with a G.
29:52And then it's got to go...
29:53It's got to go R, G, R, E, M.
29:57Oh, Gremlin.
29:58OK, is he Gremlin?
29:59Oh.
30:01OK, Gremlin was the answer.
30:03So, Owen, you scored two points.
30:05Tim, you scored four points.
30:07So let's look at the totals now.
30:09Carol.
30:09Carol and Owen, 25.
30:11Sally and Tim slightly ahead on 27.
30:14Yes.
30:15I hope you managed to get a few of those at home.
30:18If you did, well played.
30:19Time for our next puzzle.
30:21We've got all the right letters, just not necessarily in the right order,
30:24because this is form and orderly queue.
30:28And this is where a question will appear.
30:31Somehow our supercomputer has reordered each word alphabetically,
30:35rather than how they should be written.
30:37So, here's an example.
30:39The first word must be which, mustn't it?
30:41Yeah.
30:42Which...
30:42Now, capital letters really help as well.
30:44So we can see one at the end.
30:46Which...
30:46My minister had the middle name...
30:49Middle name.
30:50Hilda?
30:51Hilda.
30:52Ah.
30:53Ah.
30:54Margaret Thatcher.
30:55Margaret Thatcher.
30:56Margaret Thatcher.
30:57So there we are.
30:58And we unscramble the question now, you can see.
31:00Which British Prime Minister had the middle name Hilda?
31:02And it was indeed Margaret Hilda Thatcher.
31:04Thank you so much for coming.
31:06You must decipher the question to get the answer to bag the points.
31:08The question is, can you form an orderly queue?
31:11Time to find out if you can do this.
31:13Fingers on buzzers.
31:13Here we go.
31:14First one.
31:17So you've got a capital F in there.
31:19That might help.
31:24Oh.
31:25Sally.
31:26Henry VIII.
31:27Henry VIII.
31:29Is it right?
31:30Ah, that's amazing.
31:32What's that?
31:32Here we are.
31:33Elizabeth I was the daughter to which king?
31:36Oh.
31:36Nicely done.
31:37Oh.
31:38Get ready on the buzzers.
31:39Here we go.
31:47Sally.
31:50Ardell O'Hanlon.
31:52Ardell O'Hanlon.
31:54That's fantastic.
31:55Let us have a look at the actual question.
31:58Who played?
31:59Who played Father Dougal?
32:00I loved him.
32:01In the TV sitcom Father Ted's.
32:03Ardell O'Hanlon.
32:04Very good indeed.
32:05Very good indeed.
32:06Sounds your game today.
32:06Something's happening over here.
32:08Yeah.
32:09Here's the next one.
32:10Over there specifically.
32:12Over there specifically.
32:12Here it is.
32:16Sally!
32:18Is it Beagle?
32:19Beagle?
32:20Oh.
32:21Yeah.
32:22Oh!
32:24Wiping the floor.
32:25Well, you're doing well.
32:27What breed of dog is Snoopy?
32:29Was the question.
32:30OK.
32:31Fingers back on buzzers.
32:39BUZZER
32:39Carol.
32:40Rugby.
32:42Rugby, says Carol.
32:44BUZZER
32:44Yeah, we can accept that.
32:45Rugby union.
32:46Yeah.
32:47So, let's see the unscramble question.
32:50Joe Mahler played which sport for England?
32:52There we go.
32:53Here's another question for you.
32:55Ready?
32:55Here it comes.
33:02BUZZER
33:03Carol?
33:04Geneva.
33:05No, it's...
33:06Geneva.
33:07Is it Geneva?
33:08BUZZER
33:09Oh!
33:10OK.
33:10Think carefully.
33:11We passed it over.
33:12You can steal for a point.
33:14What is the capital?
33:15Switzerland.
33:16It's Zurich, isn't it?
33:17Yes, isn't it?
33:18Zurich?
33:19Is it Zurich?
33:21BUZZER
33:21Oh, is it going to be Bern?
33:24It's Bern.
33:24Of course it is.
33:26Go on, let's see it unscrambled.
33:28What is the capital city of Switzerland?
33:30So, final puzzle now.
33:31BUZZER
33:32Form an orderly queue.
33:33Here we go.
33:35BUZZER
33:35Two capital letters after the first word.
33:37That's always helpful.
33:44BUZZER
33:44Tim?
33:45Edvard Munch.
33:46Edvard Munch.
33:47BUZZER
33:49BUZZER
33:49Oh!
33:51BUZZER
33:52BUZZER
33:52Good play.
33:53You've got there.
33:53There we are.
33:55Edvard as well.
33:56Not Edward.
33:56You didn't mess around with any dummies.
33:58Very good.
33:58Edvard Munch.
33:59Here's the unscrambled question.
34:01Which artist painted the screen?
34:03At the end of that round, Carol and Owen have got 27.
34:06Sally and Tim have got 35.
34:10BUZZER
34:10Genius.
34:12Well done.
34:13Well done indeed, but you're not there yet.
34:15Time for our penultimate round.
34:16Here, both teams will be tackling the letterbox.
34:19The fastest team to solve their puzzle will receive two bonus points.
34:21Which is nice of us, isn't it?
34:23So, all to play for Infernundrum.
34:27Let's see how it works.
34:29You will see three anagrams, each a letter longer than the one before.
34:31You must rearrange the tiles.
34:33You've got to solve the five-letter one first.
34:35Any ideas there?
34:37Vague.
34:38Vague.
34:39Vague.
34:39No, no.
34:40Guava.
34:41Guava.
34:42Guava, sorry, yeah.
34:43Okay.
34:44Anyone?
34:44Second one?
34:45Reorder, reorder.
34:47Magnet.
34:47Magnet.
34:48Well done, yes.
34:49What about the last one?
34:50Flannel.
34:51Flannel, good.
34:52So, as ever, you'll be against the clock, so as soon as you've sold the third anagram,
34:56hit the button to stop the clock.
34:57You'll score two points per solved word.
34:59However, if you complete all three anagrams faster than your opponents, you will receive
35:03two bonus points.
35:05Sally and Tim, you're leading.
35:06so please would you head over to the letterbox first to face your fenundrum.
35:13As soon as you solve the third fenundrum, hit the button to stop the clock.
35:17Your time starts now.
35:18Churn? Crunch? Is it churn? Churn? No, you're right, churn.
35:22OK, you look at that one, I'll do this.
35:25Churn? Is it something at the A, S, Y?
35:29Churn is right.
35:31Riser. S. Yes.
35:42Dress. Dress. Dressy. Dressy. Got it.
35:45You look at that one, I'll do this.
35:54Is it... So they're trying to fool us with that, I think.
35:58OK, what can it be at the end?
36:01Climber. Climber. Climber.
36:03Climb.
36:06Climber. Climber. Climber.
36:06Oh!
36:08You are playing very well, you two.
36:11Do we get no time?
36:12Oh, yeah, you got well in time.
36:13Well in time.
36:14And also you set a time that will be quite hard for them to beat, your opponents.
36:18Well done, Sally and Tim. You scored six points.
36:20We'll see if it's good enough for those bonus points after Carroll and Owen have played.
36:24Before they face the letterbox ladder, we will take our final ad break.
36:28So do join us after this to find out whether Carol and Owen, Sally and Tim, or a surprise third
36:33team of Albert Einstein and Beyonce hit them to the post.
36:41Why don't you try unscrambling the middle three letters to solve this fenundrum?
36:45Get puzzling.
36:53Have you figured out this fenundrum?
36:56Well done if you got it right.
37:01Welcome back to Celebrity Puzzling.
37:02One of my main jobs as host is to announce who's won, and I've rarely let you down in that
37:07regard before.
37:08But before I can do my dramatic pause before reading their names and handing out the all-important cube, we've
37:13got some puzzling action to complete.
37:15Carol and Owen, it's your turn to face the fenundrum.
37:18You'll have three new anagrams to solve, and remember you've got to solve them in order.
37:22You need to beat the time set by Sally and Tim to earn the crucial bonus points, which you need.
37:27Remember, once you solve all your three anagrams, do hit the red button.
37:31Good luck.
37:31Your time starts now.
