00:00Every time we go down to Cupertino for a new generation of iPhone launch and we read your reporting, for
00:05lots of people, the camera's capabilities on an iPhone are so important.
00:09But therefore, so is the capability of what you do with those photos taken with a camera.
00:14So you're telling us that within the iOS ecosystem, big changes are coming.
00:20Yeah, this year is a very big year for both the camera functionality and the photo app functionality on the
00:26iPhone.
00:27You know, first things first, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are going to have a major camera update,
00:33one of the biggest camera hardware updates in the device's history, using a new manual technology, a new manual sensor
00:40for letting more light in.
00:43It's a pretty cool concept, a cool idea that makes it more of like a pro point and shoot camera.
00:50On the software side, you're going to see a revamp to the editing features in the Photos app using Apple
00:57Intelligence.
00:58So right now you have the cleanup tool, which means you can, you know, take your finger, circle something and
01:02remove it from the image.
01:04It doesn't work particularly well, but it is there.
01:07Three more AI features coming as part of iOS 27 that will be announced in June.
01:11The first is the ability to reframe a shot.
01:15So if you shoot a picture in spatial, you're able to move the photo to change the perspective.
01:21So if you take a picture of a car and it defaults to the front of the car, you can
01:25tilt the photo.
01:26So the perspective is perhaps the side of the car, even towards the back of the car.
01:31There's also an enhanced feature coming.
01:33You press the button that uses AI to up the ante in the image, improve the color, improve the pop.
01:40And then there is expand, which is similar to a feature that Google has had for years on Pixel and
01:46Android,
01:46where you can drag the edges of the photo to increase the size of the photo.
01:51And then it'll use generative AI to fill in more content around the scene that you captured with the camera.
01:57Mark, go there.
01:59A feature that Google has had for years in Pixel.
02:02It does feel, again, kind of Apple's playing catch up here.
02:06Oh, absolutely.
02:06Apple is playing catch up.
02:08And it is a bit of a reversal.
02:09When they announced Apple Intelligence, they said they only had very limited functionality for AI related to the camera and
02:15photos because they believe in art.
02:18They believe in people taking pictures.
02:19They don't want to put AI at the center of that experience and take away from natural photography.
02:25Now, maybe that was their philosophy two years ago.
02:28I'd like to bet that that philosophy was only something they came up with because they didn't have those features.
02:34Clearly, AI is being implemented into every part of technology, into every smartphone operating system, in every part of the
02:42overall package.
02:43And so you're going to see them try to put AI everywhere that they theoretically can.
