00:00Welcome back to Crunch Labs, I'm Mark Rober and today we're here for a very
00:04special reason science bomb. That's right Mark, today is our first ever triple wheel
00:09challenge. So basically you know those really fun boxes that come to your porch
00:15every month? Well all those are designed with the help of some really smart and
00:18talented product designers. So my name is Evan and I designed the propeller
00:23launcher toy. I am Danielle and I'm the lead designer on the buzzer beater toy.
00:27Hi my name is Jack, I'm the lead designer on the disco dynamo toy. My name is Danny, I'm the
00:33lead
00:34designer on the extending grabber toy. Now it is impressive to see what they can do
00:37with those monthly build boxes but today we're really putting those skills to
00:41test because they've got to take this boring old crazy cart and turn it into
00:44something extraordinary. Let's see the teams.
00:49All right well we've got our two teams here out of curiosity which one he's gonna
00:53win. Definitely us. Yeah. I'm not gonna trash talk. We're not. Taking the high road. Why don't we make them
00:58spin first because they're so
01:00confident. We have three wheels here. Let's seal your fate. What you're going to be
01:04designing with the wheel spin on three. One, two, three. Okay so it looks like for
01:09team trash chalk their theme is Mad Max, their build box physics concept is
01:14leakages, and their special item is fire extinguisher. All right team timid step up.
01:20Three, two, one. Your guys theme is F1 with projectile motion, personal favorite, and your
01:28special item is a rubber chicken. This could get interesting. Okay well the rules
01:33are simple. You got 24 hours to make this a thing. What are you guys doing? The clock's
01:40starting to go. Oh an early lead. Wow. It's just so satisfying. All right so Mad Max I'm thinking
01:49spiky, aggressive. Definitely. I think my team will win because we've got the
01:53intensity. Kind of thinking like fire extinguisher out the back just shooting
01:56clouds. Oh yeah. We got kind of lucky because a fire extinguisher is pretty
02:00cool on its own. This just wraps right back here. We need to test this. Oh my god.
02:06Wait was that dry ice it was forming? We probably don't want to spray our
02:09opponents with dry ice. You know we want to confuse the opponent and not
02:13cryogenically freeze them. Three, two, one.
02:19Whoa. Okay. Definitely stolen out some dry ice but it was less. You're not injured.
02:23You're alive. I think we're gonna be raining some snow down on the opposing
02:27team. I gotta find something. Where are your legs gonna go? Don't worry about it.
02:32We have skinny legs. Sure. We're incorporating projectile motion into our build. We have
02:37like catapult pull and release. Exactly. We've decided to build a big
02:41catapult arm so that we can just load whatever we want into it.
02:46So we've been tasked with using rubber chickens. So we need to figure out the most annoying
02:51ways to use them.
03:04There's gonna be stuff all over the floor. Maybe we could go get the third card and just drive it
03:08over stuff and see what stops it. We're just gonna make a little puddle of these guys. Yeah,
03:11start with the foam. Well, it looks like you guys are getting ready to test something. We are.
03:17I don't think it noticed them. I'd be curious to try the bouncy balls maybe. Bouncy balls. My
03:21teammate Evan is a bit of let's say an adrenaline junkie. I think the fact that you almost just crashed
03:30into the wall is a good sign. We have skid marks. Wow. Okay. Yeah, I think we're, I think we're
03:35on the sign. I think so. That shoots really well. Hey, friendly fire. The time
03:43crunch is pretty big. It's, it's a lot to get done in a short amount of time. So we've got
03:46the gas pedal and
03:47then we've got the chicken pedal. Yes. The biggest goal with these chicken mechanisms is distraction.
03:53Jack is owning the catapult design. Maybe around 10, 12 inches. I'm working on this little chicken
04:00launcher. So we're going to load up all these little finger chickens. So we have
04:03like 10 going at once. All right. Now catapult. Very nice. Let's see what we got. Okay.
04:09All right. You hit the country last camera crew. Look at this. That's our mini chicken
04:14launcher. I actually haven't tested it yet. Oh yeah. That's pretty good. That was excellent.
04:23So the things we've got, the obvious one, the fire extinguisher, right? And then we're
04:27going to have the dumper that Dan's working on right now, but it's going to dump obstacles
04:31out the back. I think it's time for a test. I think Mark would want the cars to be as
04:35chaotic
04:35as possible. The test right now is to see if pulling this lever is going to release all
04:39these bouncy balls. Oh, that's going to be so good. We can fill that with so much stuff.
04:46I think we're going to try to keep some things secret from the other team so that they don't
04:49know what to expect. Oh, that's a good idea.
04:54We realized we probably should have more rear-facing weaponry. It's on my head.
04:59Because they're going to be behind us. We're not nervous about the other team. No. I think
05:10they're scared. I think we should try it. Oh yeah. That's definitely tight.
05:17All right. Here we go.
05:21Oh no. Oh my god. That was insane. We found these cans of silly string. So I rigged it up
05:29in the back here.
05:30On the front, we've got our plow. So we don't have to worry about whatever they drop. I'm working
05:35on a little holder to hold these chickens. If you pull it. This is like our second reload. Just found
05:43this mesh to hopefully scoop anything out of the way. All right. Look at this. Not much time left.
05:48Are you going for any style points?
05:54We could always do more. Okay.
05:59Yeah. Dude, that looks awesome.
06:09This is basically done, right? Yeah. This body panel fits.
06:15Clock's ticking. You're still working? Oh yeah. I think they've actually made their cart worse.
06:21All right. Time's up. Stop.
06:27Okay. Starting over here with F1. What are we looking at?
06:30This is the Cockadoodle Zoom. It is an F1 themed race car with weaponry. We have the chicken finger
06:38flinger. Several silly string cans rigged up. In the back, scissors. Cut the string. Release the
06:44ping pong balls. All right. Well, that's going to be tough to beat. Team Mad Max, what's going on here?
06:49This is the bone crusher. We've got the ball bearing dropper. Come around the back,
06:54there is a dump truck. Unleashes a bunch of bouncy balls. We've got the smoke screen fire extinguisher.
06:58And then the Nerf gun. All right. Well, I suppose at this point, there's only one thing left to do.
07:05Ladies and gentlemen, start your engine. It had all come down to this. And as I prepared to kick off
07:11the
07:11first ever Crunch Labs triple spin challenge, Danielle and Evan prepared to race the first three laps of the
07:17six-lap race. How soon? Until one got the lead. On your mark, get set, go! Immediately, it turns out.
07:26Oh, that was stuck from Evan! And right away, Danielle took advantage of her lead. I raced upstairs to watch
07:33the race from a safe distance, while Danielle made a shocking realization. I don't have my scissors!
07:38At which point, Evan took advantage of her oversight. But his surefire Nerf aim, they're doing lap too,
07:45got him no closer to the lead. Oh, no! Where'd my scissors go? Oh, what's going on here?
07:53There was a scissors handoff!
07:58There we go. Ah!
08:00Evan's shark tooth wedge successfully deflected the bouncy balls,
08:03as he then pulled the Nerf trigger in retaliation. Oh, wow! We're in the crossfire!
08:09His luck changed when Danielle spun out on her own bouncy balls on lap three.
08:15Yeah! Let's go! Let's go!
08:19Drop it! Drop it!
08:21Right here! Right here!
08:23Quick! Quick! Quick! Quick! Quick!
08:24Let's go! Let's go! Let's go!
08:25The Mad Max gang had the lead as they switched drivers.
08:29Go! Go! Go! Go! Go!
08:30And as Danny pulled ahead...
08:31Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go!
08:33Jack prepared everything he would need to catch up.
08:35Oh! That's quite the lead.
08:37Like the super chicken catapult.
08:40Go!
08:41Never mind. But then Danny got cocky as he fired a smoke screen blast at Jack...
08:46Oh!
08:48...which actually knocked himself off course,
08:51which meant Jack now had the lead.
08:53I need speed!
08:56But a little bit of nitro boost meant Mad Max was gaining as they entered the final lap.
09:01Nice driving! Yeah!
09:04Just as he was about to pass Jack, we had a disastrous double spin out in the final turn.
09:13It was anybody's race now.
09:16I sprinted down to make the final call as Team F1 took the lead again.
09:23Trying to cement their lead with some silly string to Danny's face.
09:28But Danny wasn't going down without a fight.
09:33The only question now...
09:35Would it be enough to win?
09:41Oh, no!
09:43Oh, no!
09:45Nope.
09:46Definitely not.
09:48Wow!
09:49Congratulations!
09:51Team F1.
09:52Prize-wise, uh...
09:55Your next two paychecks goes to that team.
09:57What? Did I mention that at the beginning?
09:59No!
09:59No!
09:59The stakes were high.
10:01Alright, well that's it for today.
10:02We'll catch you next time, right here at Crunch Labs.
10:07So close.
10:09We'll catch you next time.
10:13Bye!
10:14Bye!
10:46You
