00:04I'm often asked by fans about favorite kills and I think that's a misconception about Pinhead
00:12because he's not really a killer. The killing is not the thing for him, it's the suffering.
00:22With the risk of sounding dull my favorite Cenobite is Hellpriest aka Pinhead. The biggest
00:28impression why I think he's my favorite Cenobite out of the mall is because there's something really
00:35aristocratic about him and I think that that's the first villain that I encountered in my life
00:41back in the 80s that was not just a pure mindless monster. Pinhead is like this anti-slasher villain
00:48when you look at a lot of like other movies in that period that were bundled in with Hellraiser
00:53typically slasher movies they were motivated by like a Michael Myers or someone who you know had
01:00a specific aim that he wanted to achieve with his killings or whatever it was but Pinhead is kind of
01:05just out there being Pinhead in Hellraiser and then someone calls on him with the lament configuration
01:11and we try to go back to this more monastic guy who's searching that this character who's searching
01:19for enlightenment through sensation way beyond the boundaries of what a normal human would be doing
01:25and then because we spend more time with him it being a video game we wanted to give him a
01:31specific
01:31goal this time so we looked at those original movies and asked what would Pinhead actually want?
01:38Working with Doug Bradley as original Pinhead was a great honor to be honest also was really excited
01:46to hear from us and see what we do with the character as well. I think Doug Bradley brought
01:51weight to the project when he decided to join and him willing to participate and putting his trust
01:59into the project I think it's just the greatest. I inevitably had some anxiety coming back to play
02:07the character again because you know you kind of think oh great I'm going to I'm going to do that
02:11again
02:11wait a minute how do I do that? I'd like to offer some some mystical exciting actorly process
02:20but I can't find anything anything other than there's a switch that flips in my head and it's there.
02:28I guess it helps that I've spent a lot of time over the last 30 years and rising talking about
02:37the
02:39character. Recreating the four original Cenobites for our game was uh it was challenging you know we
02:46tried to be as close to the movies as we could. We wanted to bring something out from each of
02:52the
02:52Cenobites and for some of them we wanted to make a connection between the character and the environment
03:00for example and for some between the the character and a certain emotion that did counter with with the
03:09character evokes. For P-Head it was always like about presentation so he had to you know look good he
03:15had to be you know whenever he goes he has to be in control of the environment. We wanted the
03:21players to
03:21uh experience his uh overworldly presence and um his nobility. For Cheddar the main focus was gameplay you
03:34know because the player will have to run. We aimed uh to keep the tension high uh introducing some highly
03:46engaging music uh and uh his menacing teeth and his footsteps echoing through the the through the
03:54corridors. For uh Fallen uh or the female Cenobite uh her appearance is mostly in the um real world so
04:03when we designed her uh she always appeared like closer to Aiden because we wanted to achieve this
04:09like sense of familiarity she's trying to persuade us towards you know the dark side or rather her side.
04:15We just uh played with some processing mostly time-based processing like uh I think some interesting
04:24delays and reverb in order to make uh her more ethereal and elevate her presence and uh authority.
04:38As for Botherball uh his scenes were were a bit challenging because they're mostly like very
04:44disturbing. It's an interesting idea to think about how Pinhead feels about the other Cenobites.
04:50They don't interact very much and we never see them talking to each other working on a plan of attack
04:56or anything. So Cenobites are extremely powerful and godlike beings and the player interactions with
05:03them will be different depending on the Cenobite. You will never be able to defeat them or kill them but
05:07you will have ways of dealing with them. All of them are featured in some capacity. Pinhead is someone who
05:13you need to kind of earn his uh appearance and his uh attention so um there is a very strong
05:21narrative
05:22reason why Aiden the protagonist of our game comes to Pinhead well why Pinhead comes to him.
05:29So as for what the Cenobites are doing and what their goals are it's kind of the central mystery of
05:34the
05:34game what they're doing and why uh it's something that Aiden like the player character is consistently
05:42investigating consistently asking them about and they give him kind of cryptic answers. Pinhead and
05:48his gash they do also have a specific goal that they're trying to attain but you'll have to play
05:52the game to see whether they achieve that and what the exact nature of that is.
