00:00For 25 years ago she took a fantastic musical career with Monster Hitten Kids in America.
00:07Under the 80s and middle of the 90s she was awarded with several gold- and platinum-skivor
00:14for the nine pieces she had to set up on this time.
00:17She played with the biggest, Michael Jackson and David Bowie.
00:21But then it actually became a tyst.
00:24Until now, Kim Wilde does a comeback and she does it here on the 9th Morgons Sunday.
00:55So we all wonder, of course, what have you been doing during these years that we haven't seen you?
01:02Well, the last 10 years ago I got married.
01:05Congratulations!
01:07And then I had a couple of children.
01:09And then I got into a whole different area of life.
01:12I got out of the music business and I ended up finding myself in horticulture.
01:15I went back to college to study planting and design.
01:19And then I got involved in NTV design and gardening and there were makeover programs
01:24that became very popular in the UK, which was great.
01:28So, yeah, a completely different life.
01:30It was a bit of a shock to the system, you know, suddenly finding myself married with kids and a
01:38new career.
01:39But it's been extremely challenging and an amazing experience.
01:46But here I am again.
01:48And you never thought, I've read that you never thought that you would be back.
01:52No, I never did.
01:53And this is why the album is called Never Say Never because I really never thought I would do a
01:58comeback or do this at all.
02:00When I got out of the business, I was very relieved to be out of it after having been in
02:05it since I was 20.
02:06And I was 36 and I felt there has to be something else in life other than this constant, you
02:13know, going around the world and promoting.
02:15And actually, a very small part of it was a creative part.
02:18And I became kind of bored.
02:20And I felt a bit like I was at a party that I should have left a few hours ago.
02:25You know, the one that you stay at and you think, I should have left.
02:28I should have gone.
02:29And I'm still here.
02:29I'm still here.
02:31So, yeah, but now coming back is amazing.
02:34I think one of the inspirations for it was a record that I made with Naina in Germany.
02:40We had a big hit with that in the last few years.
02:42And also doing some 80s touring, which I've really enjoyed working with bands like The Human League and ABC and
02:49Belinda Carlisle.
02:50And actually, for me, it's all about live work.
02:53It's about being here in the studio with the band, playing live.
02:56The album is very inspired like that.
03:00It's like last night at the Hotelette, you know, we did a little gig for about 300 people.
03:06For me, it's very much about keeping it live again, making it very real and back to basics, I guess.
03:12But I mean, I read that when you went out of the business, you were very tired of it.
03:18And it was like, I read somewhere that Spice Girls was like, that was enough.
03:26When Spice Girls came, you just, I don't want to be a part of this.
03:30I really, yeah, I was very disenchanted with the whole Spice Girls thing.
03:34And I felt that pop music hit a real low at that time.
03:38But apart from that, though, I mean, I've been in it a long time.
03:41And it wasn't really anything much to do with the Spice Girls.
03:44No, but maybe Spice Girls, it wasn't really the Spice Girls.
03:47Maybe it was just a signal of something happening.
03:51It was, absolutely.
03:51I mean, I was 36 and I've been in it.
03:54As I say, since I was 20, it was time to go.
03:57And I always felt I would rather walk away from the situation and get kicked out.
04:03But also, I was very fortunate, I was offered a musical in the West End, excuse me, by...
04:10You have water there if you want some.
04:12Thank you, yeah.
04:13Called Tommy, which was written by The Who.
04:15And I was asked to audition by Pete Townsend and I went to the audition and got it.
04:20And within six months of being in the West End doing theatre, I had met and married my husband.
04:26So my life took a dramatic turn very quickly.
04:28From this celebrated, very, very big rock star that you were in the 80s, to musicals, to flowers and gardening,
04:39and now the comeback.
04:40It seems like everything you do, you do it with great success.
04:44Well, it does look like that.
04:47Yeah.
04:48Of course, this is early days from my comeback, so I think only in time can we look back and
04:54say with any definite view that this has been a successful comeback.
05:00You know, time will tell.
05:01But for me, it's already been a success. I've got to play a lot of live shows and meet my
05:08audience again.
05:09And even if I just had to pack my bags and go home tomorrow, that has been enough for what's
05:14happened so far to make a great album again, to be singing live again, to meet my audience again.
05:20It's been a real gift.
05:22While you were talking, we saw some of the pictures, your private pictures. This is your husband, and we also
05:28saw your two kids. You have a son.
05:30Yeah, I have a son called Harry, who's eight years old.
05:33And a daughter.
05:34And my little girl is called Rose, and she's six years old.
05:38That's my dad, then.
05:39That's your dad.
05:41That's your dad.
05:41Yeah, that's a sweet teacher.
05:42Also a musician.
05:44Yeah.
05:44Your whole family is in the music business.
05:47Yeah.
05:47What about your kids? Can you already see that they are interested in music?
05:53Yeah, very much so. My son Harry has an electric guitar, and he's always got a guitar in his lap.
05:58He's always strumming it. I can tell by the way his fingers are around the frets. He's definitely going to
06:04be a guitarist.
06:05How do you feel about that?
06:07Oh, I think it's fantastic. I really do. I love guitarists.
06:09But you're not afraid to see your children walk into the pop music business?
06:15Not at all, no. I think it's a fantastic world. And if you have the talent, and you have the
06:20ambition, and you have the energy, it's one of the best things in the world.
06:23My little girl, she wants to be a rock star for sure. But whatever they want to do is absolutely
06:29fine with me.
06:30Yeah.
06:31Finally, I have to ask you, we asked people back home to write questions for you. And if you would,
06:38we had one question that we choose from Ralph. Ralph.
06:44And he's asking if you would live your life again, what would you change if you would change anything?
06:51Yeah, I do get asked that question a lot. And I've had a very blessed, fortunate life, really. I'm just
06:58too grateful for really what's already happened and is happening now to ever wish to have changed it.
07:05I mean, what would I've changed? I think very, very little.
07:09That's a great feeling, I mean, to have that.
07:11Yeah, it is. I would like to speak fluent French. That's the only thing I haven't managed yet.
07:17It's not too late.
07:18It's not too late, no. And I do quite fancy the idea of being an ice skating champion, but I
07:22don't think that's going to happen.
07:24Maybe not.
07:24No.
07:25But French you can learn.
07:25Please sign this album. We're going to send it to Ralph.
07:29To Ralph.
07:29Ralph in Karlskoga.
07:31Yeah.
07:32And how do you spell Ralph?
07:34Like this. R-A-L-F-P-H.
07:38There you go, Ralph.
07:39Great. Thank you very much. Now I'm going to ask you to prepare yourself. You're going to sing a song
07:46from your new album this time.
07:47That's right. Which one?
07:49It's the new single from my Never Say Never album and it's called Perfect Girl.
07:53Okay, perfect. Go ahead. Thank you for coming this morning. I'm very happy.
07:57Thank you. And thank you to all the guys over there.
08:19Never Say Never. Varsågoda.
08:34Varsågoda.

09:08No more lies, I won't cry for tomorrow
09:15In my mind, I am blind to this sorrow
09:19You need the perfect love
09:23To fit her inside your perfect world
09:26For something I'll never be
09:28You know it's not me
09:33You know it's not me
