00:00The Kuala Lumpur High Court today allowed former Minister Abdul Qadir Sheikh Fazir's libel suit
00:06against businessman and influencer Alif Shukri Kamar Zaman,
00:10ordering the latter to pay RM250,000 in damages over defamatory social media postings.
00:17Justice Roslan Matnoor also ordered Alif to pay RM50,000 in costs.
00:23In addition, the court ordered Alif to remove the offending social media postings,
00:28refrain from repeating the allegations and execute an undertaking not to repeat the defamatory statements.
00:35Qadir 86, a former culture, arts and tourism minister, sued Alif three years ago over social media posts
00:43which Qadir claimed were defamatory of him.
00:46He alleged that Alif's claim that he owed tens of millions of ringgit had seriously damaged his reputation.
00:53The court held that lawful avenues were available for Alif to recover the alleged debt
00:59and that the matter could have been resolved in accordance with the law.
01:03The judge also rejected Alif's defence that he had no intention of embarrassing Qadir.
