00:00Previously on R.J. Decker.
00:02You beat up a kid?
00:02He wasn't a kid, he was 20 years old.
00:04And as it turns out, the son of a state senator.
00:06Those heels are gonna put you on your ass, son.
00:07Why are you really here?
00:08I'm here to talk about this.
00:10What you're doing here, I respect it.
00:13But is it wise?
00:14You have a new COO.
00:16Someone who, with a single call from me,
00:19will violate you back to Appalachia.
00:22Accept the offer.
00:23You get sent back, I don't believe you'll ever get help.
00:25I think I realized what I wanted to say.
00:27What?
00:28Screw your dad.
00:30Lucas was sent to steal your camera.
00:33This time you found out why.
00:40Sir?
00:41Yeah?
00:42Am I telling me one more time what happened here tonight?
00:45Yeah, I was walking in my car.
00:47Saw the guy broken into the trunk.
00:49He sees me, he takes off with my camera.
00:51I'm a photographer, I can't lose my camera.
00:52So I chased him down.
00:54Caught him.
00:55He started throwing punches.
00:57I punched back.
00:58Like all the cops.
01:01Yeah.
01:03See, that's not the story we're getting from him.
01:08Okay?
01:09Would you please turn around, show me your hands?
01:15Hey.
01:17RJ.
01:19You okay?
01:20Mm-hmm.
01:24You sure this is the right next move?
01:26It's the only next move.
01:37I appreciate all you being here.
01:40Mel, I think you're the only one that hasn't met Amy.
01:43Yeah, well, we can skip the formalities, yeah?
01:46You said there's things you need to tell us.
01:48Let's cut to the chase.
01:50Uh, Amy's father.
01:52The other day he had my CRO replaced.
01:55Threatened to use a guy to have me sent back to prison.
01:58Amy and I may know a way to have Victor sent to prison instead.
02:03We're here to ask for your help.
02:11Okay.
02:12Y'all know this story.
02:14Lucas Ochoa breaks into my car.
02:16He runs up with one of my cameras.
02:17I chase him down.
02:19There's a fight followed by a joke of a trial
02:21and an 18-month prison sentence.
02:24That whole time I thought he was just some spoiled rich kid.
02:26And he did what he did because he felt like doing it.
02:28Turns out that was wrong.
02:31He was sent there that night by his father.
02:34My father thought there were pictures on the camera's SD card
02:37that could prove damaging.
02:40Lucas was supposed to steal the camera and destroy it.
02:43Well, what were the pictures of?
02:44I don't know.
02:45I didn't find out about any of this until things went sideways
02:48and Lucas ended up in the hospital.
02:50I dug up some of my old notes and according to the dates,
02:53the pictures had to be from my last two assignments at the newspaper.
02:56One was the birth of a baby hippo at the zoo in Miami.
02:59Unless Victor was the father, I doubt those were the pictures he'd be worried about.
03:02The other more likely candidate was a mob-style hit
03:05that went down in a fancy restaurant, Il Sapore.
03:08I remember that. I wrote a couple articles.
03:10The victim was a financial advisor, Peter Bellwether,
03:13a man in a ski mask gunned him down at his table.
03:17I was the first news person on the scene that night.
03:19I got there even before the yellow tape went up.
03:21Obviously, I don't remember capturing anything that would have been damaging
03:24to someone like Victor.
03:25But, according to Emmy, there has to be a connection.
03:29Probably too much to hope Daddy did the shooting himself.
03:32He'd never put himself at that much risk.
03:34But, obviously, you do think murder is in his repertoire, right?
03:37Aside from the part he asked me to play in RJ's prosecution,
03:40he's kept me siloed from anything criminal.
03:43All I know for sure is that the possibility of RJ's photographs coming to light
03:47made him very nervous.
03:49Hence Lucas being sent to steal my camera.
03:52When that didn't work, Victor needed me on trial,
03:54so my camera would end up in an evidence room.
03:56That way a friend of the family, maybe a cop on the payroll,
04:00or a crony at the DA's office could sneak in and steal the SD card.
04:03In other words, the pictures are long gone.
04:05Actually, they aren't.
04:07The SD card reached me before my father.
04:09I told him it was destroyed, but the truth was,
04:11I gave it to someone to hold on to.
04:13I felt terrible about what I had said at RJ's trial.
04:16I thought, I don't know, I might need it someday.
04:21After this, I'm gonna go get it.
04:22I was hoping you could go through your old notes
04:24from when you wrote about Peter Bellweather's murder,
04:26see if there's anything that didn't make the articles
04:28that could help us figure out a connection to Victor.
04:30Absolutely.
04:31You want me to go to the station, go through the old case files,
04:33look for the same?
04:34If you wouldn't mind.
04:35But wait, before you go,
04:37there's something you both need to know.
04:38It's about the break-in at the house.
04:47Hey!
04:47I just wanna say thanks for hosting, I appreciate it.
04:50Would you believe that wasn't my first cabal?
04:53I put a little coffee and pastry thing together
04:56a couple of weeks ago for a group
04:57who believed the moon landing was real.
05:00It just wasn't our moon.
05:02What are you doing? What is this? Dress books?
05:04I still know a few guys that know a few guys.
05:07None of them traffic and murder, but you never know.
05:10Maybe somebody heard something once about that restaurant hit.
05:14Maybe they know how it connects to your girlfriend's daddy.
05:17She's not my...
05:20I know you think I should just accept his offer.
05:23Get my record expunged, be done with him, I know that.
05:26Look, I wanted to promise you, I get sent back to Appalachie,
05:29I will do my absolute best to not get murdered there.
05:32There ain't a snowball's chance you get murdered there.
05:36Cause you go back, I go back.
05:39I'll punch Victor Ochoa in his big dumb face or something.
05:42I'll make sure I'm around to watch you back again.
05:45Hey, you never told us where your not a girlfriend stashed the SD card.
05:52You need help getting it?
05:54Actually, it's...
05:56Something I gotta do on my own.
06:03Hey!
06:04How's the return trip to the murder of Peter Bellwether going?
06:07Poorly.
06:08I mean, he was by all accounts well-liked.
06:11But...
06:11He was a finance guy.
06:13He could have been in bed with anyone.
06:14A cartel, an oligarch.
06:17A certain Florida State Senator?
06:18If he was working with Victor Ochoa so far, I'm not seeing it.
06:21How's it going at the station?
06:23Got a little sidetracked.
06:24Uh...
06:25It'll be there soon.
06:26I'll let you know if I find anything.
06:27Okay.
06:36That sucks.
06:38Detective Malabreu.
06:39I was just driving by when I thought I saw a guy messing with your car.
06:43You must have taken off running.
06:45Yeah, I guess so.
06:46Would you like to file a report?
06:48Nah, I'm okay.
06:52Evidence.
06:53I'll run some tests.
06:55You never know what might tie somebody to a crime.
06:58Have we met before?
07:01You look so familiar.
07:03Just have one of those faces.
07:06Yeah.
07:21Hey, how's it going?
07:23I'm about to have a conversation with one of your patrons.
07:26It's possible he might throw a few punches.
07:29This is for you to not call the cops until at least three of them land.
07:33Or two.
07:33You know, the good ones.
07:41Lucas.
07:43Hey.
07:47Emi sent me.
07:48Emi sent me.
07:48Okay?
07:49I need to get something from you.
07:51At first I thought it was time we talked.
07:59Emi wanted to come get the SD card, but I told her no, I had to do it.
08:03Because I told you an apology for a long time, Lucas.
08:07I was going through something two years ago.
08:11I had lost some money and my job.
08:16All the things I was seeing.
08:21Those are excuses.
08:22I'm not here for excuses.
08:24I'm here to tell you I'm sorry.
08:27I'm sorry, Lucas.
08:30See, that's how messed up my family is.
08:33I mean, you kicked my ass.
08:35But only because I tried to rob you.
08:38Then I lied to the cops about what happened.
08:42Then I lied at court.
08:44But you, you're the one here to apologize.
08:47But here's the thing.
08:49I'm not sorry.
08:51What I saw in your eyes that night,
08:54you had to go away.
08:57If you hadn't,
08:59you were going to kill somebody.
09:05The SD card, Lucas, I really need it.
09:11Before you ask,
09:13I never looked at what's on there.
09:15I didn't actually know how.
09:17All that ever mattered was it was leverage against my dad
09:19if me or Emi ever needed it.
09:23Hey, be careful, okay?
09:25I know you beat me up and everything, but...
09:27I don't want you to like...
09:29die.
09:32I appreciate that.
09:38You can comb me through these like it's the Supruder film.
09:41I don't know.
09:42All the pictures I took were after the murder.
09:45Maybe your dad just convinced himself I captured something.
09:48No, there has to be something.
09:51The other night, when I told you about Lucas and your camera,
09:55that it was one more thing I kept from you.
09:56I mean, you could have told me to go to hell.
09:59But you didn't.
10:04This thing I've been doing in the last few months,
10:08um...
10:08ex-cons call it...
10:10re-entry.
10:13A big part of it is forgiveness.
10:15Some of it's for yourself, and...
10:17some of it's for others.
10:21I look at you.
10:23I see you trying to change.
10:26I see you trying to live your life a different way.
10:31And I do.
10:33I think you're going through a re-entry too.
10:36Heh.
10:42You know, it's funny.
10:44Before you and I met,
10:45I'd only ever heard your dad was corrupt.
10:48This...
10:49all this...
10:52makes me think he might be connected to organized crime.
10:56Tied to a gang, maybe even a cartel.
11:00It's not the first time it occurred to you, huh?
11:03And yet,
11:05after all the time I've been around him,
11:08I don't have a single thing we can bring to the police.
11:13Yeah.
11:16It's gonna be okay.
11:18It's all gonna be okay.
11:23What?
11:27What the hell are you doing?
11:29Just making sure Lucas didn't hit you.
11:31No.
11:32I told you all we did was talk.
11:36No one happens.
11:38Hey, Kath.
11:39Hey!
11:40I just got a call from Edith across the street.
11:42She said there's something in our driveway,
11:44something that couldn't possibly be there,
11:45because if it were, my wife's head would surely explode.
11:48Uh, yeah.
11:49Sorry, Kath.
11:50Edith is right.
11:52When I heard Victor had someone burn his son's boat down,
11:54I didn't think it'd be wise to keep my trailer parked in a lot,
11:57owned and managed by...
11:59much more development.
12:01Anyway, where are you? I saw your cars in here.
12:03I came to the station to go over the Peter Bellwether files with Mal.
12:06And?
12:06So far, nothing that connects to Victor.
12:08I did reach out to Peter's widower, a guy named Steven Crane.
12:11I got to know him a little after Peter died.
12:13He sat down for a couple interviews.
12:15He said he'd come and talk to me one more time.
12:17I'll let you know if the name Victor Ochoa means anything to him.
12:25You want new tires, Ray?
12:27Send me the bill.
12:28I can buy my own damn tires.
12:31I called you here because the one who did this is the same homicide detective whose house you had me
12:35break into.
12:36You were sloppy.
12:37That sketch?
12:38Someone got a good look at you.
12:40That sketch had nothing to do with this.
12:45You think Emilia gave you one?
12:47My daughter would never turn against her family.
12:52You went too far.
12:53Sending me to torch Lucas's boat was a mistake.
12:56You're the one who was sloppy.
12:57Ray.
12:57No.
12:58I've been taking care of things for you a long time now.
13:01It's time for you to take care of things.
13:03Get your damn house in order before it's too late.
13:11It's so good to see you, Steven.
13:13Thank you for coming in.
13:14Please.
13:15You were so kind to me after Peter died.
13:18He wrote such wonderful things about him.
13:20It really meant a lot.
13:23But I'm a little confused if you're working on some sort of follow up.
13:27Why are we meeting here instead of at the Herald?
13:30There's been a new development in Peter's case, or at least the possibility of one.
13:35Oh?
13:35I'll get right to the point, Mr. Crane.
13:37Does the name Victor Ochoa mean anything to you?
13:40As in the politician?
13:42We're just trying to figure out if Peter ever did any business with him.
13:46I...
13:47I'm not sure.
13:48I don't think so.
13:51Are you sure Peter never crossed paths with Victor Ochoa in any capacity?
13:55Professional?
13:56Social?
13:57I'm sorry.
13:58I'm suddenly not feeling well.
14:00Could we...
14:01Could we finish this at another time?
14:03Steven, wait, wait.
14:05Do you remember the story you told me about the panhandler on Broward Boulevard?
14:09The man people drove passed on their way to the beach, windows up, eyes forward like he wasn't even there?
14:13But Peter saw him, right?
14:15Pulled over one day and sat on the curb with him.
14:18Got him a job.
14:19You said that was who Peter was.
14:21Gentle.
14:22Decent.
14:23Incapable of letting anyone feel invisible.
14:28He deserved better than what happened to him.
14:33You're right.
14:35He did deserve better.
14:36Peter.
14:40I'll tell you what happened.
14:46Oh, hey.
14:47If Edith called with another update, it's true.
14:49I did go inside the house, but only to look for food.
14:51How'd it go with Peter's widower?
14:53He gave us a name.
14:55His own.
14:56I'm sorry, what?
14:57A few years ago, he had a knee replacement, got hooked on opioids.
15:01When the prescriptions ran out, he started buying from dealers.
15:04They turned him on to heroin.
15:05Peter found out and gave him a choice, get clean or get out.
15:09I'm guessing they had a brain up.
15:10Steven would have been left with nothing, so he paid their pool guy ten grand to shoot Peter in his
15:15favorite restaurant.
15:16Steven's sober now, and the guilt over what he'd done was killing him, so when he saw a chance to
15:20make things right today...
15:21Yeah, he took it.
15:22Peter Bellwether's murder is finally solved.
15:26Except it has nothing to do with Victor Ochoa.
15:36Coming in.
15:37Put your pants on.
15:41I make my mom's paella, and you don't come in to mooch?
15:44Sofia's worried about you.
15:47Yeah, I don't know.
15:48I've just, I've been through everything.
15:51The scene inside the restaurant where Peter Bellwether was killed.
15:54The scene outside the restaurant, even the frickin' baby hippo with the zoo, and...
15:59I thought for sure I'd find a link to Victor, but...
16:02I'm not saying it.
16:03Either he was wrong about what I captured on my camera, or I'm wrong now.
16:06Unless I figure out some kind of connection, this only ends one way.
16:10Me going back to Appalachia, and maybe for good this time.
16:14And I've dragged everyone I care about into Victor Ochoa's crosshairs for no reason.
16:18Hi, RJ.
16:22You are such an idiot.
16:25My dad used to say,
16:27Cuídate, mija.
16:28Careful who you let get close.
16:30Choose wisely.
16:32I never would have chosen you, but you wormed your way in anyway.
16:36And that makes it not just your fight anymore.
16:40Cath, Wish, Emmy Ochoa, me?
16:43We're all in it.
16:45Something in here got you sent to prison, and my money says you'll find it,
16:48because it turns out you're...
16:52a pretty good investigator.
16:56Actually, I take that back.
16:57Not the part about you being good.
17:00The part about you finding how these pictures connect to Victor Ochoa.
17:03You would have had to know what to look for.
17:06What do you mean?
17:07That?
17:08Right there?
17:09That's Ray Mergado's car.
17:10Are you sure?
17:11I should be.
17:12I stuck a knife in those tires this morning.
17:17But Ray didn't kill Peter Bellwether.
17:19So why would Victor be so worried about us being able to put him there?
17:23Maybe that murder isn't the only crime that went down that night.
17:32Let me guess.
17:34You caught the guy who slashed my tires.
17:36Oh, no, I'm sorry, Mr. Mergado.
17:38That crime remains a mystery.
17:40Unlike the one we asked you here to talk about.
17:43That's your car.
17:44Yeah?
17:45I'll save you the trouble.
17:46It's definitely your car.
17:48This picture was taken on the evening of March 4th, 2024, by Mr. Decker here.
17:52Pretty unremarkable photo, isn't it?
17:54And yet a great deal of effort was made to make sure it never came to light,
17:58and we think we know why.
17:59Mr. Decker was in the area that night because of a murder in a restaurant,
18:02but you were there because of a death in a building across the street.
18:07One that didn't come to light until two days later.
18:10Jessica Laurent.
18:12Do you recognize her?
18:14She was supposed to get married that April.
18:16When she didn't show up for work on March 6th,
18:18her fiancé went to her apartment and found her hanging from a rafter.
18:22Yeah, the M.A. ruled it a suicide, but we think you got her wrong.
18:27You strangled her.
18:28And you made it look like a suicide.
18:30Why would I do that?
18:31Same reason you'd do anything, Ray.
18:34Victor Ochoa told you to.
18:36Jessica Laurent was an architect.
18:37A damn good one.
18:39Very in demand.
18:40A source tells us that your boss, Victor,
18:42he'd been chasing her for years to do a job with Ochoa Development.
18:45She kept saying no.
18:47Yeah, Victor doesn't like hearing the word no, does he?
18:49A source.
18:51We don't have enough to charge you.
18:52Not yet.
18:53But we're getting close.
18:55This is your window, Ray.
18:57Give us Victor now,
18:58or there isn't gonna be a lifeboat left when you need one.
19:02Are we done here?
19:07Yeah.
19:10Do me a favor.
19:12Say hi to Amelia for me.
19:21What do you think?
19:22Any chance Ray takes matters into his own hands,
19:24goes to say hi to Emmy himself?
19:26Well, she would say no,
19:27but you're assuming Victor wouldn't just order him to do it.
19:30Meanwhile, I got my best guy keeping an eye on Ray, just in case.
19:33Your best guy wouldn't happen to look like Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, would he?
19:36You're saying that like Shaggy didn't solve like a bunch of mysteries.
19:47Good one for a ride.
19:52Really should have peed first.
19:59Emmy, do you honestly believe your father had Jessica Lorent killed?
20:03You've met Ray Mercado once or twice?
20:05Uh, yeah.
20:06Yeah, your dad's friend.
20:07More like his fixer.
20:09The police think he killed Jessica.
20:11By taking a hard look at him.
20:13Any luck?
20:14He'll confess.
20:15Flip on my father.
20:17I'm here in case he doesn't.
20:20Before Jessica died,
20:21you were commissioning more work from her than anyone else in town.
20:25Did she ever talk to you about my father?
20:27Listen, Emmy.
20:29There are very few people that scare me.
20:32Your father does.
20:36I understand, Bruce.
20:38I really do.
20:43Hey, listen.
20:43If you think it'll help, I can give you some names.
20:47Jessica's friends.
20:48You can talk to all of them.
20:49But just...
20:51Please promise me that you will be careful.
20:57Everyone I talked to about Jessica Lorent believed that she killed herself.
21:02Really? No one had questions?
21:03No one.
21:04And yet,
21:05I know my father was trying hard to recruit her around that time.
21:10Suspicious, but...
21:11it isn't proof of anything.
21:14Well, Ray's not ready to help us either.
21:15Not yet, anyway.
21:18What?
21:20It's just been...
21:22crazy the last couple of days.
21:25We haven't had a chance to talk about...
21:29us...
21:30about what happened the other night.
21:34No.
21:36No, we have not.
21:39This thing that we do...
21:41whatever it is we are to each other...
21:44I've been trying to...
21:45figure it out.
21:48It can't just be...
21:50hookups in places that have wheels on them.
21:52Can it?
21:58Hey, what's going on?
21:59I'm still at Ray's shop, but...
22:03just...
22:04something feels off.
22:05What do you mean?
22:07I see smoke.
22:08It could be from an engine.
22:10It could be he's out there burning files or evidence or something.
22:15I thought maybe I'd, you know...
22:16No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
22:18Stay in the car.
22:19Are you sure?
22:20Gary, I don't want you getting yourself in any trouble, okay?
22:24All right.
22:25Whoa, whoa, hold on, hold on.
22:29Looks like we got a visitor.
22:32What do you mean?
22:32I mean somebody's headed up to the shop.
22:35Just stay put, all right?
22:46Doors open, man.
22:47Don't quite have an angle on it.
22:54Wish, what the hell is that?
22:55Call 911.
22:56Do it now.
23:08Oh, come on.
23:09Stay with me, big guy.
23:10Hey, hey.
23:12Hey, come on, talk to me.
23:13Who did this?
23:14Was it Victor Ochoa?
23:15Huh?
23:29You all right?
23:31Sorry, it's just...
23:33I knew Ray my whole life.
23:35He was a good guy once upon a time.
23:39I mean, I can count the people my father trusts on one hand.
23:42For him to do this...
23:43Ray must have been closer to talking about Jessica Laurent's murder than we thought.
23:47I don't know.
23:49The name of your dad is getting paranoid.
23:50Ray didn't have much to say at the end.
23:52What do you mean?
23:53Well, she asked him who did it.
23:55All he said was peppermint, stick, thumb.
24:01Does that mean something to you?
24:02I think I know what he was trying to say.
24:05He just died before he could say the last word.
24:07Drive.
24:08Peppermint, stick, thumb, drive.
24:10My father has a safe at home where he keeps important documents.
24:13I've seen the thumb drive Ray was talking about in there.
24:15It's striped like a candy cane.
24:17Do you know what was on it?
24:18No, I've never seen it outside of the safe, but...
24:20I'm betting whatever it is, it ties my father to what happened to Jessica Laurent.
24:25Do you think you can get inside the safe?
24:26The safe? No problem.
24:28The house?
24:30My father's security won't let me within a hundred feet of it right now.
24:34But that might be okay.
24:35I...
24:36I may only need to get within a hundred and one.
24:41Sir?
24:42There's something going on in front of the house.
24:55She got here just a few minutes ago.
24:57She's saying she won't move until you two have talked.
25:01Okay.
25:05I assume you're here to talk about what happened to Ray.
25:07I'm pretty sure you mean what you had done to Ray.
25:09Ray was a familiar.
25:11I loved him.
25:12I would have never hurt him.
25:13Yourself? No.
25:14I had to guess it was one of them.
25:16Or I don't know.
25:17A friend suggested the other day you may have ties to organized crime.
25:21Maybe you borrowed a Sicario from some nice cartel.
25:24Amelia, please, let's take this inside.
25:26I'm not going anywhere with you.
25:27You want to talk?
25:28We'll do it right here.
25:33Huh?
25:39How's it going out there?
25:40Good.
25:41Two of the three security guards that Emmy told us about are taking in a show.
25:44Okay.
25:45Let me know if that changes.
25:46Why would I hurt Ray?
25:48Because two years ago, he killed Jessica Laurent for you.
25:51No.
25:52That's not true.
25:53The pictures RJ took that night?
25:55The ones I told you I destroyed?
25:56I didn't...
25:58One of them shows Ray's car parked across from her building.
26:15I appreciate you doing this now.
26:18What?
26:19Being an accessory to whatever this is.
26:22I know you don't like Emmy all that much.
26:25Eh.
26:26She's grown on me.
26:29Okay.
26:37Uh-oh.
26:38Uh-oh?
26:39What's uh-oh?
26:39The code Emmy gave me for the safe.
26:41Uh...
26:42She said it was her birthday but it's not working.
26:44Her dad must have changed the code.
26:45Mija.
26:46Think.
26:47Am I a stupid man?
26:49What could I have possibly gained from Jessica Laurent's death?
26:52What did you gain by torching Lucas' boat?
26:57You're a bully.
26:58Bullies don't need agendas.
27:00They need targets.
27:01They need to hurt people so they can feel big.
27:09Yeah, that's three attempts.
27:11According to the internet, this model of safe, after a fourth failed attempt, you're locked
27:15out for an hour.
27:16I don't think this argument's gonna last that long.
27:19Uh...
27:20Hang on.
27:20I have an idea.
27:23I've made mistakes.
27:26Terrible mistakes.
27:27But killing Ray is not one of them.
27:29I'm begging you.
27:31Believe me.
27:33Come back to me.
27:35Together, I promise, we can fix all of this.
27:39I-I can't come back.
27:41It's too late.
27:42You and your friend.
27:45You want me out of office.
27:47Maybe even in prison.
27:48But it would be a mistake.
27:50Because you're right.
27:52I do have dangerous friends.
27:54More than you can even understand.
27:56But I maintain those relationships for the good of the city.
28:00For the good of the state.
28:01I do what I have to do to keep the peace.
28:05To save lives.
28:09080758.
28:10What's that?
28:11Just try it.
28:14080758.
28:19Oh, my God.
28:21It works.
28:25He changed the code from Demi's birthday to his home.
28:27The nice thing about malignant narcissists.
28:29Their self-obsession can make them predictable.
28:32You stay this course.
28:35I won't try to stop you.
28:38But there may come a time when I can no longer protect you.
28:45These past few years, are you hiding things from me?
28:48Asking me to perjure myself?
28:50To send a good man to prison?
28:52If that was you protecting me, I...
28:55I wish you hadn't.
29:07Hey, we have the thumb drive. We're headed to you.
29:09Turn around.
29:10Go someplace else.
29:11Why?
29:12What's going on?
29:13A couple of cops were just here looking for you.
29:15What?
29:15Seems old Victor finally made good on his threat.
29:18Your new CRO?
29:19He had you violated.
29:21There's a warrant out for your arrest.
29:37Hey.
29:38Hey.
29:39Just, uh, checking in on you, old buddy.
29:42Yeah, I'm good.
29:44Thanks.
29:45I am, as you know, a law-abiding citizen now.
29:50Have been and tend to be.
29:53But like I told you the other day, I know people that know people.
29:56One of them might be able to help you.
29:57Go someplace else.
29:59Get a fresh start.
30:00Which, are you asking me if I want to go on the run?
30:03I'll answer that question with another question.
30:05How many times you want to go to prison for something you didn't do?
30:14I just sent you a number.
30:16You need it.
30:17You call it.
30:19Okay.
30:19Yeah, I got it.
30:20Okay.
30:20Thanks.
30:36Yeah, hi.
30:37Uh, I'm calling because I need your help.
30:45Hey.
30:46I was starting to worry you weren't going to show.
30:48Did you get it?
30:56So?
30:59So, it's strange.
31:01Good strange or bad strange?
31:02Every single file here is the work of Jessica Lorenz.
31:05Blueprints, floor plans, elevations, all from the same building downtown, Seabright Tower.
31:10Yeah?
31:11She designed the place a few years ago.
31:13No, but I'm confused.
31:14I thought you said she didn't do any work with the auto development.
31:16She didn't.
31:17Seabright Tower is one of Bruce's buildings.
31:19He's the guy I went to see the other day.
31:20Right.
31:20He messed her.
31:21He worked with Jessica all the time.
31:23But if Seabright Tower isn't one of your dad's projects, why the hell is this thumb drive in his safe?
31:28It had to have come from Wade.
31:30He must have taken it the night he killed her.
31:32If he didn't, he wouldn't have known to tell Wish about it.
31:35Ray didn't have access to the safe.
31:37Right, so what?
31:37Two years ago your dad sent Ray to steal it?
31:40Maybe there was some design element he was trying to rip off.
31:45But I don't know.
31:46For someone like Jessica Lorenz, Seabright Tower was borderline mundane.
31:50High-end, luxurious, but more substance than style.
31:55So, in other words, after all that work this morning, the only thing we might be able to hang on
31:59your dad is intellectual property theft.
32:01It's okay.
32:02We'll figure it out.
32:06Yeah, we sort of need to figure it out by 5 p.m.
32:09That's what I'm due to turn myself into the police.
32:12What?
32:13Yeah, your dad.
32:14He did what he said he was going to do.
32:16He got me violated.
32:19Look, it's okay.
32:21I called Mel a little while ago.
32:23I...
32:24She's going to need me a five-hour surrounding myself.
32:26Any luck, she and my attorney will straighten out this little misunderstanding with the CRO.
32:31It could be out by morning.
32:32RJ, you know my father isn't going to let that happen.
32:42What?
32:42What is it?
32:43I don't know.
32:44It's this file.
32:46I mean, if this is what I think it is, your dad might not have been the one to want
32:49Jessica Lorenz dead after all.
32:52That's okay.
32:53It's maybe even good because if I'm right, the person who did can give us your dad on a platter.
33:02Mr. Vincor.
33:05Believe you know Emmy Ochoa?
33:07Uh, I do.
33:09Just spoke yesterday, as a matter of fact.
33:11I assume you're here for the same reason I am?
33:13Background on Jessica?
33:15Oh, Miss Ochoa has already done her part.
33:17She's been very helpful, but we still have some questions.
33:20As I believe you know, we've been circling the possibility that Jessica was killed by a man named Ray Medagano.
33:26That's his car parked across from her apartment the night she died.
33:31Very troubling.
33:32You mean seeing his car there?
33:34Or seeing yours?
33:36Made us wonder, did Ray kill Jessica?
33:39Or did he just handle the cleanup?
33:42Uh, I don't understand.
33:44What are you suggesting?
33:44I...
33:46I would never.
33:48She and I worked together.
33:49That's why I would have been there that night.
33:51I told Detective Abreu that Jessica designed Seabright Tower for you.
33:54Huh.
33:55And I explained how things work in our business.
33:58Sprinting to put up one building so it can pay for the next.
34:01The Seabright Tower was leveraged to the hilt. It had to be on time.
34:05Financing these things, it can be risky.
34:08The structural integrity of your buildings can't be.
34:11You've seen this before, yes?
34:14Yeah.
34:15I think you've seen this too.
34:20Jessica created the day she died.
34:22Mr. Cho explained it's a standard stress test.
34:25It shows how a building will stand up to wind shear.
34:27Jessica discovered a fatal flaw in the Seabright Tower site plan.
34:31Those two neighboring buildings create a wind tunnel that can amplify tropical storm force gusts.
34:37She showed it to you.
34:39Told you to slam on the brakes, only you couldn't.
34:41It would have cost you tens, maybe hundreds of millions of dollars.
34:44At first we thought maybe you hired Ray to kill her.
34:46Then we saw your car.
34:47Made us wonder, why would you go there with him?
34:50Unless you didn't.
34:51You were there first.
34:53You killed Jessica.
34:54And then in a panic, you called the most corrupt, most connected person you knew for help.
34:59My father.
35:00He sent Ray.
35:01Ray made it look like Jessica killed herself.
35:04No.
35:04No.
35:06These models are theoretical.
35:08Storm simulations, overstate risk, all the...
35:11I'm not here to talk about engineering.
35:12I'm not even here to book you for Jessica Lorenz's murder.
35:15Not enough proof.
35:16Ray's murder, on the other hand.
35:17When I came to see you, I told you the police were leaning on him.
35:22I assume that's why you killed him?
35:24To make sure he couldn't tell them about you?
35:26These shell casings?
35:27They're registered to a gun we know you own.
35:31And this blood?
35:32You cut yourself on a fence as you fled.
35:34Without Ray around to clean up after you, I gotta say, you're not very good at murder.
35:38Tell me something.
35:41Why do you suppose my father held on to that thumb drive?
35:46Blackmail material.
35:49In case he needed to leverage me.
35:51You're the one with the leverage now.
35:53Tell the truth about the role he played.
35:55Give the DA a reason to not pursue the death penalty.
36:03It happened.
36:04Just like you said.
36:07Every bit of it.
36:10I'll tell you everything.
36:48It's funny.
36:50You think you won.
36:51But my attorneys have already assured me that the state's case against me is a joke.
36:56I'll make bail in a matter of hours.
36:58And then, if the district attorney, an old friend, actually decides he wants to prosecute me,
37:06it'll come down to my word against Bruce Vincors.
37:10You're right.
37:11I didn't win the war.
37:12Just the battle.
37:15What a heck of a battle, am I right?
37:18I mean, before today, you were untouchable.
37:20Now?
37:22Now you're gonna be under a microscope the size of Seabright Tower.
37:25You remember Seabright Tower, right?
37:28Big building, home to almost 200 people.
37:30But you were willing to keep it a secret the place would collapse in a hurricane, because why?
37:35Just to have a little dirt on your buddy Bruce?
37:38See, I got a secret for you, Vic.
37:41I think you are going to prison.
37:44Because you're wrong.
37:45It won't be just your word against Bruce's.
37:47It'll be your word against Emmy's, too.
37:51Say you're right.
37:53She'll have to get used to visiting both of us behind bars.
37:57Nope.
37:57She won't.
37:58Because I'm not going to prison.
38:00At least not today.
38:01That whole little mix-up with my new CRO, that got cleared up just a little while ago.
38:05You see, my friend, she works here.
38:08She paid him a visit, she made it very clear just how scrutinized you were about to be.
38:12How many secrets would be coming out in the next days, weeks, months?
38:16All of a sudden, he realized he made a mistake.
38:19I didn't commit any violations after all.
38:24See, the truth is, Vic, I was free to go an hour ago.
38:27But I thought the genuinely thing to do was to stick around and say hello.
38:32And then goodbye.
38:37Car!
38:38This isn't over.
38:40It's over for today.
38:55FM Station.
38:56The FM stands for Florida Man, right?
39:00It does.
39:02What about Florida Lemon?
39:03If I do something weird, can I get a free drink?
39:07Well, you, kiddo, are a dear friend of a dear friend.
39:11So, your drinks are always free.
39:15Speaking of the dang old devil.
39:17There he is.
39:20Oh, boy.
39:22Oh, where the heck you been, son?
39:24Party started without you.
39:26Busted out the foosball table.
39:28T-shirts and everything.
39:29Very classy.
39:30Huh? Huh?
39:32So, are we going to meet for drinks every time you get out of jail?
39:34Because I don't think my liver can take it.
39:37Where's your shirt?
39:38You pull one on, I'll pull one on.
39:41I'm glad you're not in prison.
39:42Yeah, me too.
39:44Emmy went to the back to take a call from her brother.
39:46I don't know if you heard, but you're not the only one who got out of jail tonight.
39:55The nerve of your dad, huh?
39:57I go to that holding cell early, I get it all nice for him, and he just, whoosh, he just
40:01leaves.
40:03I knew he'd make bail.
40:06Because, of course.
40:10But still.
40:11Yeah.
40:12You're disappointed.
40:14A little.
40:16I'm a little sad, too.
40:19Sorry, that's probably a weird thing to say.
40:21No, it's not.
40:22He's your dad.
40:26The other day you said you wanted to figure out whatever, whatever this is.
40:32I've been thinking, do we have to figure it out tonight?
40:34Because, I don't know if you've noticed, but there's a foosball table out there, and I'm kind of amazing.
40:40Amazing.
40:41Could've gone pro.
40:46Liquor and love
40:48Do they have them in heaven above
40:52Oh, it's all I've been dreaming of
40:57Sweet liquor and love
41:02Please tell me why
41:04These days should be over
41:11And say goodbye
41:13To all of my pleasures
41:35All I know is I decided so long ago
41:41That I don't wanna take it slow
41:46On the liquor and love
41:49On the liquor and love
41:52Liquor and love
41:54Do they have them in heaven above
41:59For it's all I've been dreaming of
42:02Sweet liquor and love
42:05Sweet liquor and love
42:10Sweet liquor and love
42:14Sweet liquor and love
