Witnesses have told a jury there was an explosion of debris as they watched a bus collide with a caravan on the Bruce Highway killing three people. The bus driver Peter Jason Cafe is on trial in Townsville.

00:02It was a deadly highway crash that claimed the lives of three passengers.
00:06A Greyhound bus collided with a caravan at Gumloo, south of Townsville, in June 2024.
00:13Witnesses have told the Townsville District Court the driver, Peter Jason Kaif,
00:18shortened scheduled breaks to make up time on the delayed trip.
00:21Richie Binder told the court Mr Kaif said,
00:24I had a nod. It's been a long night. I killed these people.
00:27Alan Quinn told the trial Mr Kaif had said, I'm sorry, it was all my fault.
00:33The bus driver has pleaded not guilty to one charge of dangerously operating a vehicle,
00:38causing the deaths of passengers Emma Saylor, Marissa Martin and Aaliyah Tonga,
00:43and the serious injury of passengers Dylan Davies and Tyler Dickinson.
