03:01and you know we get to like 645 we're going to hand off to brian and i would run out

03:43had to get home all the time so i didn't stay for a single game during either of those playoff

03:48just couldn't life life got real life got in the way so you stayed for one oh well that's that

04:05was a disaster they lost that game for nothing anyway so um that's right i did stay for one

04:16i'm gonna be there i don't want to leave i'm also not comfortable just walking around and hoping an

05:44get in certain places and i thought you know well i could i've done this before in those days yeah
05:50um without tickets to a game let me just wander and see what comes and there were a couple of
05:58times when it was like sure you know they don't even look but if the playoffs been a long time

06:03the playoffs there's one guy who always gave me the hardest possible time he went too hard on me
06:08i thought just because he could nope that does not get you suite level that does not say does that
06:14say suite level sir right like he was that guy yeah he still works here so i don't want to

06:20any kind of a yeah i'm not trying that on right i was envisioning without tickets i was envisioning
06:25a scenario where some friends really look if you can get up to the suite level you can come in

11:30in our way as soon as i got here i got a text that we were upstairs so i went

11:35elevator and walked all the way around went upstairs and looked at some pictures then i went
11:38into a booth the guy's like no this is the nesson booth i'm like well the sign says wgr i
11:42said well
11:42the other signs is nesson like okay you're probably right so then i went all the way back down to
11:47the
11:47other end yeah and i found our radio booth and then i got a text from you like come back
11:51so like okay i'll come back but i looked at all the pictures i took pictures some of the pictures
11:56okay are they as you recall how long has it been since you've been out there a while a lot

12:04i recognize and some of them are new um so yeah it's been at least 10 years i think since

12:12up there for a hockey game maybe lacrosse yeah i just wonder how how if any of it's because i've
12:18i haven't been up there i maybe longer than that i i don't really most of the pictures predate
12:24the last 20 years of sabers hockey why wouldn't they right there's a lot mostly a lot of 70s and
12:2980s up there who was the captain who was the sabers captain for the winter classic in buffalo
12:36there's a team picture from the ice at the stadium yeah that probably is rotating captain
12:45so i'll guess jokin hesht spot check okay he's number six yep yeah spot check wore the c for the
12:52winter classic wow that's one of those years they did i don't know 10 game increments month i don't
12:58know whatever they did but a lot of guys took turns that year that didn't work ah well they missed

13:03playoff so no it didn't right that's right that's how you do that's how you do it yeah it's a

13:08idea it didn't work pick a captain well i mean my voice issues it uh i blame the sabers for

13:19because i am sunday was hollering yelling sunday oh i mean i've been running a cold but sunday those four
13:30goals like it just doesn't get any better it was reminiscent of that flyers yeah a couple of those
13:35flyers games the 0-1 elimination game maybe or whatever yeah yeah just boston had nothing yeah
13:42how much you were on yesterday how much of that game the first period of that game it's pretty much
13:48over i mean it's over by the end of the second if not the end of the first um how
13:52much of that was
13:53the sabers doing they finished and they got a couple of goals that were a little bit slippery
13:58like benson's goal where it wasn't like i'm still not positive how that went in the night i don't know
14:03and i and i thought when i saw it uh that maybe you know he pushed the goalie and that
14:10caused you i
14:11thought we were going to get a review me too and then the bruins called timeout and i thought well
14:14maybe they're calling a timeout to think about the review and also to regroup because they're getting
14:19their faces caved in and it's three nothing already uh in their own building uh but i i thought it
14:24was
14:24possible and i was relieved when the puck dropped um i i mean i think they were just to me
14:31it was
14:31reminiscent of game one just with goals like i thought game one they started like that um and
14:38just didn't didn't close so i i mean i give them credit for finishing you know i mean that's a
14:45part of
14:45the game um can i say starting with talk to krebs on the first goal i mean announcers would have
14:54loved
14:54it if he'd shot right right he takes he makes the pass to krebs and you know all the narrative
15:00stuff
15:00you want about if whether the sabers are tight whatever they won them in one game three but
15:06anything you would want to attach to that if you know he takes the shot and swaying makes a save
15:12and
15:12all right you can't let the goalie get rolling whatever instead what i mean just like an easy
15:17pass across krebs buries it wasn't a gimme no and tuck did a good job of holding swayman like he

15:25he sold shot pretty well i think tuck on that play like he he just the the way he moved

15:32before he passed it i think gave the impression that the shot was coming so and that you know on

15:38going across like that goalies left to right um you know a fraction of a second can be all you

15:45um as it turned out i think if i remember right krebs shot that and it went in over swayman's
15:50shoulder like middle of the net bar like right under the bar um so now you pick the corner um
15:56but krebs
15:56krebs did a great job to finish and talk i thought just did a really good job to subtly freeze

16:01just long enough and thompson starts it then you have doan on the heels of the power play for two
16:08then you have benson and you're off to the races but i got back to that ball i really liked

16:14radio broadcast in uh in the after the first period of game three and i was back in my car
16:20at that first
16:21intermission on sunday and wanted to hear them and it was the same two guys bob beers i believe that
16:27somebody tweeted at us that bob beers is the color man he was so good and on sunday i mean
16:34he was
16:34merciless just like he at one point he said florida something to the fact of florida does this to us
16:41but they force you into it as if like the sabers really didn't force the bruins and i thought he
16:47was probably mostly right that it was just i mean think of mcavoy what goal is it three mcavoy behind
16:55his net at two nothing or even three not whatever goal it is the saver score off of that i

17:00the benson goal because he's just sort of standing there and he's got nothing you know you're in here
17:05for sabers games and you sort of see that stagnancy the defenseman doesn't have a play and you know
17:11everybody's just sort of circling around and the crowd starts to get restless there's mcavoy behind
17:15the net he doesn't go he just waits and waits and waits and then plays the puck off the off

17:20on the right wing if i remember the play correctly and it sort of gets bounced and then it's in

17:26like that to me was i would have said what the boston announcer said to that like that was an
17:31unforced error yeah yeah yeah i think there was plenty of that um not to say the sabers don't
17:37deserve credit i mean they buried them yeah and they look as good as we could have hoped for i

17:41it's a lot easier to have your opponent make mistakes when you're constantly pressuring them
17:46i.e even if you're not pressuring them they still might feel like pressure's coming you know so they
17:52they were the sabers were on them um i i think pretty hard uh maybe not on that play but

17:58if you're if you're playing that way you can rattle even the best player i don't i don't have time

18:11i think it's also pretty notable i i don't know schematically what they've done but you remember
18:18talking about those those long passes off the glass that were turning into breakaways and two-on-ones
18:22that's gone away um so i don't know if that is something that sabers have tweaked because a lot
18:29of the stuff that the bruins are still trying to do that they tried to do early on sunday was

18:34throw it out of the zone and that was turning into offense for them in the first two games of
18:39this
18:39series and it just has not happened in games three and four i i hope i'm not overstating that
18:45um i don't know that they haven't had any odd man breaks off of those plays but it's just not

18:50anywhere near the frequency it was happening it happened like 10 times in the first two games
18:54between breakaways and odd man rushes it was terrible i bet by at least the middle of game two
19:01if not just for the third period that would have been scrapped and it would have been just like
19:05try to establish some sort of rhythm and forecheck and you know momentum well i mean they didn't even
19:12really do that i think no i don't think that really matters by some time i i do you remember
19:18what point of the second period it happened that byram had the puck in his own end it was just

19:23of standing in a face-off dot and the crowd started the crowd started to boo and nothing was happening

19:28i was listening i was watching on msg and rob even said like something ineffective they know they're
19:33down four nothing right like there was no like right right at that moment is when i went okay
19:38we're this is done i mean it's four nothing you could have felt that way already but you know
19:43for one that becomes quickly for two like neither right i mean you can flip pretty quick uh the
19:49sabers did it to the bruins it almost did it in game two they did it in game one um
19:54you know it
19:55wasn't for nothing in either case i thought wait no game two was for nothing wasn't it and then the
19:59sabers scored two quick ones um so watching byram just stand there and seeing the bruins like
20:06clogging up the neutral zone like congratulations what are you doing do you know that you're in the
20:13playoffs and you're down four nothing well i just thought they checked out i am not meaning this quite
20:19as a prediction more just like as a cautionary tale i guess but as a sabers fan i you you

20:27sort of expect their best at this point um maybe you'll get lucky and you get that again yeah and
20:35thompson buries a couple and you're just home but i mean i've been to one game in my life where

20:43clinched a playoff series one that 2007 no 2001 i wasn't at the game 2007 i was lost out here

21:24taking anything for granted here i know it's really tempting to talk about uh the next round
21:31tampa and montreal and when that'll start and all these kinds of things i even thought to ask you if
21:37you would take a game seven win in this series but i thought that would just be too much so

21:41that uh but i i think i probably would um no like i it's easy and tempting to get there
21:48but my
21:51mantra to myself this last few months with them is to not even look a minute ahead and that made
21:59the
21:59regular season more enjoyable because i wasn't obsessing over playoff matchups and as it happened
22:05it worked out i think perfectly for them anyway so i didn't want to do i mean i know what's
22:11going to
22:11there but i'm not going to rush it and i'm not taking this thing for granted at all 98 points
22:17boston i'm not either i i you know i almost wonder i mean you can get lost thinking about boston

22:24would a couple of goals do them in right would they just sort of feel cooked if that happens so
22:29you know get on them early whatever i'm mostly thinking about how the opportunity to do this in
22:36front of their fans will impact the sabers like how how much more tight or anxiety will they have
22:43as players yeah you know you don't like to think about the guys on your team in that way but
22:49i mean
22:50this is a this is a for everything here has been a first for a lot of these guys not
22:54all of them
22:54byram talk have had plenty of experience um it's a first here but yeah but right and just you know
23:02i feel like the pressure i don't think boston has any pressure in this game they can get eliminated
23:07but they're down 3-1 and every most people would assume they're not going to come back and win the
23:12series so that i think puts the pressure squarely on buffalo to close it out you're at home you know
23:18and 3-1 becomes 3-2 and i'm going back over there and like you you know how it works
23:23right i mean it's
23:24like it's don't let them win a game um so i think i could see them being a little tense
23:29at the
23:30beginning of this game or maybe a lot tense um so i'm i'm really interested to see how it all
23:35gets rolling here i mean you get what might be a week off if you win right that would be
23:42exciting for a lot of these guys i bet mike show open the bulldog at key bank center site of
23:48game
23:48five tonight sabers and bruins paul hamilton at six we'll extend our pre-game show again to give uh
