00:00:15Christmas is coming, the snowflakes will be falling, it's the most wonderful time of year.
00:00:27So hang up your stockings, put the tinsel on the tree, because Christmas is coming, my dear.
00:00:39It's the only time to hear the reindeer fly, you can see them on their sleigh ride across the sky.
00:00:53Every girl in their right mind dreams of adventure.
00:00:57Why wait for anyone to tell you when and where this adventure can begin?
00:01:01When Wonderlusting alone, I provide every single girl the tools they need to conquer the solo ghetto.
00:01:09Having traveled 42 countries over the last four years, I can honestly say that adventure is waiting for you, all
00:01:16you have to do is take it.
00:01:19From Beirut to Bangkok, there is no destination that you cannot conquer, alone.
00:01:27Next week, I'll be reviewing my annual runaway from Christmas getaway.
00:01:32Until then, this is Sophie, Solo Travels, signing off.
00:01:45Next week, I'll be looking for you.
00:01:51Okay.
00:01:55Bailey, hi, how are you?
00:01:57Great to be back on solid ground after three missed connections and four delayed flights.
00:02:01Oh, I've been there.
00:02:03Listen, I loved your review last week on Solo Travel to Bally's luxury resorts.
00:02:07Your honesty about all the garbage that's building up on the beaches was brilliant.
00:02:12I always try to be really honest in my articles.
00:02:15You've been killing it lately, which is why I am calling, to get everything lined up for your annual runaway
00:02:20from Christmas travel post.
00:02:22I just emailed you the location link if you pull it up.
00:02:25Good.
00:02:25I've set up a huge review of the newest luxury resorts in the Maldives.
00:02:29It is the most romantic place on earth.
00:02:32The top spot for engagements, honeymoons, destination elopements, etc, etc, etc.
00:02:37So, what better person to review how to travel single during Christmas time in the most romantic place on earth
00:02:43than my favorite solo blogger?
00:02:44You got it. When do I leave?
00:02:46I have you flying out the 24th 9.20pm flight.
00:02:52Now, you know this post is a huge poll for advertisers each year, and we have a lot of big
00:02:57ones riding on this.
00:02:58I want all that cynical about Christmas flair we expect from you.
00:03:02That will not be a problem.
00:03:04Good. And post it on all your socials beforehand to really amp up the viewership.
00:03:08Of course.
00:03:09I honestly don't know how you do it.
00:03:12I don't want to be anywhere else but home during the holidays.
00:03:15I look forward to reading your article while I'm shoving my face full of sugar cookies.
00:03:20Sounds good.
00:03:21I'll send you the deets when I have them.
00:03:23Perfect.
00:03:24Bye.
00:03:25Bye.
00:03:43Hey sis.
00:03:47Shh, quiet guys. Mommy's on the phone.
00:03:50Oh, how is the new little bub? I can't wait to meet her.
00:03:53Oh, that might be sooner than later.
00:03:56Why? What's going on? You guys come to the city sooner?
00:03:59No, it's mom. She's out of fall.
00:04:02What?
00:04:03She was hanging Christmas lights on the roof alone again.
00:04:07I told her not to do that anymore. Is she okay?
00:04:10I know. Yeah, she's okay.
00:04:13You know mom, she just always does things her way.
00:04:15I'm fine.
00:04:17Kind of like someone I know.
00:04:19She banged up her leg pretty good and she's going to be off her feet now for a few weeks
00:04:22at least.
00:04:24Oh my gosh. I should call her.
00:04:25Yeah, so here's the thing.
00:04:28You know it's the annual Christmas fundraiser at the restaurant next week.
00:04:33Uh-huh.
00:04:34Well, there's just no way that mom can organize it now.
00:04:37You know, I would help but with the kids and the newborn and Jeff away on duty, I just, I
00:04:41can't handle it all.
00:04:44Maggie, I have this huge assignment. You know that. I fly out on the 24th.
00:04:48Well, that's the night of the fundraiser.
00:04:50You could just come and help organize it until then. It'd be really good for you to come home.
00:04:58Maggie, I...
00:04:59Look, we haven't been getting the same amount of donations the last couple of years.
00:05:03And you know how important this charity was to dad.
00:05:06It's been a family tradition at the restaurant for 20 years.
00:05:09He would never want us to let it go.
00:05:11But I know, I know you don't like coming home at Christmas time.
00:05:15But...
00:05:16Mom needs you.
00:05:18Okay?
00:05:18We...
00:05:20We really need you.
00:05:28Okay.
00:05:29I'll drive up tomorrow.
00:05:31Thank you so...
00:05:32Mom is going to be so happy you're coming home.
00:05:36Love you.
00:05:37Love you.
00:05:45Oh, I can't believe she's coming home.
00:05:48Having both my girls home for Christmas is the best gift I could ask for.
00:05:52Oh, well, don't get too excited, Mom.
00:05:54She said she's flying out on the 24th, so...
00:05:56She'll be here long enough to help you and Dr. Miller with the charity events.
00:06:00Okay.
00:06:08Is she alright?
00:06:10I hope so.
00:06:11I'll drive up to Willowbrook first thing in the morning.
00:06:13Oh, wow.
00:06:14Going home for Christmas.
00:06:14You haven't done that in...
00:06:16Four years?
00:06:17Yeah.
00:06:18I know.
00:06:19Well, don't worry.
00:06:20You will be in and out in no time, and then you'll be jetting off to the sandy beaches of
00:06:24the Maldives.
00:06:25And who knows, maybe it'll be good for you to be at home for a little bit.
00:06:28No.
00:06:29And there are too many bad memories at home around Christmas.
00:06:32It's too painful.
00:06:33Even though it's been four years, I'm just not ready to face it all yet.
00:06:36You know, I think I'd just rather be alone.
00:06:39And that's what I do best.
00:06:41But you know, if I hadn't taken that trip four years ago and written that article, I wouldn't have the
00:06:46career I do now.
00:06:47And you never would have met a certain someone on your flight home who just happens to be your super
00:06:52special best friend.
00:06:53Yes.
00:06:53And you know, that would have been the real tragedy.
00:06:57Look, I know it's going to be tough.
00:06:59But like I said, I really think it'll be good for you.
00:07:01Be at home for a bit, see your family.
00:07:03If anything, Christmas is the time to do that.
00:07:06Except that running away from Christmas is a massive part of my brand.
00:07:10I mean, as I have 1.5 million followers expecting my run away from Christmas post.
00:07:15Yeah, I know.
00:07:16That's a lot of pressure.
00:07:17Yeah.
00:07:18And even if I didn't loathe Christmas, which I do, that's what my readers expect from me.
00:07:22Not to mention Bailey.
00:07:23And this is my career.
00:07:25It's everything to me.
00:07:26I just have to get in, help my mom, and get out.
00:07:29And I'm only a phone call away whenever you need to vent.
00:07:32I know.
00:07:33You're the best.
00:07:35I know.
00:08:01It's just a few nights.
00:08:02You can handle it.
00:08:40I can't believe my eyes.
00:08:42Is that...
00:08:43Is that THE Sophie from Sophie's Solo Travels?
00:08:47Hi, Sam.
00:08:48Well, butter my butter, call me a biscuit.
00:08:50Haven't seen you here in what?
00:08:52Ah, yeah.
00:08:53It's been a while.
00:08:53No, but it's Christmas.
00:08:54You haven't been here at Christmas time in...
00:08:58Four years.
00:09:01Well, it's really great to see you.
00:09:04What can I get for you?
00:09:05Uh, a dozen of my mom's favorites, please.
00:09:07Shortbread.
00:09:08Coming up.
00:09:10And you're just in luck.
00:09:12It's the last batch of the day, so you snagged it just in time.
00:09:16Ah, on the house.
00:09:17It's really good to have you home.
00:09:19Sam.
00:09:19I insist.
00:09:24Merry Christmas.
00:09:35Oh my...
00:09:36I am so sorry.
00:09:38I...
00:09:40I...
00:09:41I...
00:09:41I...
00:09:41I didn't even see you there.
00:09:42Uh, let me get you another batch.
00:09:44It was the last batch of the day.
00:09:46Um, I'm so sorry.
00:09:48Well, you should apologize to my mom.
00:09:50They're her favorite.
00:09:51They were for her.
00:09:53Your mom's favorite?
00:09:54Yeah.
00:09:54Um, don't...
00:09:55I can come back tomorrow.
00:09:56No, are you...
00:09:56It's fine, really.
00:09:57Don't worry.
00:09:57Don't.
00:09:58Don't worry about it.
00:09:59But I think I...
00:10:00It's fine.
00:10:00I'm just gonna...
00:10:01Excuse me.
00:10:02Why don't you...
00:10:21Mom!
00:10:22I'm home!
00:10:23I'm home.
00:10:24Oh, sweetheart!
00:10:26Oh, come here.
00:10:27Come here and give me a squunch.
00:10:31Mom, what were you thinking?
00:10:32Are you okay?
00:10:33I'm...
00:10:34I'm fine.
00:10:36Well, let me make you something.
00:10:37Some tea?
00:10:38Ooh, that would be lovely.
00:10:40Oh, and actually...
00:10:41Mom, you'll never guess.
00:10:42I went to Sam's to get you some of your favorite shortbreads,
00:10:45and this absolute doofus of a man just ran right into me,
00:10:48and they all went all over the floor.
00:10:50Sweetie, the...
00:10:50Sweetie, the...
00:10:50And it was...
00:10:53You.
00:10:56Sophie, this is Dr...
00:10:58Uh, doofus.
00:10:59Dr. Doofus.
00:11:01Dr. Finn Miller.
00:11:03I was trying to tell you.
00:11:05Uh, just call me Finn,
00:11:06and actually knew exactly who you were
00:11:08as soon as you said that shortbread were your mom's favorite.
00:11:11I was there to pick up some for her, too.
00:11:14Such a dear.
00:11:17Right, so...
00:11:18I'm sorry, I didn't realize doctors still made house calls.
00:11:21Oh, well, uh, your mom.
00:11:22She's a special case.
00:11:26I was just telling Dr. Miller
00:11:27that you've come home to help with the charity gala.
00:11:29Yes, Maggie has sent me the checklist,
00:11:31and I'm ready to get started.
00:11:33Wonderful.
00:11:34You and Dr. Miller will be working together
00:11:35to get everything up and running at the restaurant.
00:11:37Well, I'm off my feet.
00:11:39Oh, no, Mom.
00:11:40I'm sure I can handle anything you need help with on my own.
00:11:44Dr. Miller and I have been organizing the charity gala
00:11:47for the hospital together for the past few years,
00:11:50which you would know if you'd been home.
00:11:53Montgomery's restaurant and the hospital
00:11:55have a very close relationship,
00:11:56and I want to keep it that way.
00:11:58We're raising funds for the new children's wing this year,
00:12:00which Dr. Miller is the head of.
00:12:04Great.
00:12:05It's very important to make this year special.
00:12:08Mm-hmm.
00:12:08It's been a rough go the last few years.
00:12:11Yeah.
00:12:11Donations have been kind of dwindling.
00:12:13So, you two have one week to get everything up and running,
00:12:16and Dr. Miller will show you the ropes
00:12:17and everything that we've got so far.
00:12:19Mom, really, I can...
00:12:20Sophie Montgomery, this is not something
00:12:22that you will be doing alone.
00:12:25You came home to help me.
00:12:27So help.
00:12:29Uh, we can start tomorrow.
00:12:31I'll pick you up bright and early, 8 a.m.?
00:12:33No, I'm not really an early riser.
00:12:37Uh...
00:12:388 would just be great.
00:12:42See you then.
00:12:43Thank you for having me help.
00:12:44Thanks, Finn.
00:12:50Sophie Montgomery and you working together.
00:12:53Yeah.
00:12:54Well, good luck to you, good sir.
00:12:57Thanks, I think.
00:13:00Seriously, who doesn't come home to see their family?
00:13:02And who doesn't come home at Christmas?
00:13:04It's a bit more complicated than not just coming home.
00:13:08Her fiancé called off their wedding on Christmas Eve.
00:13:13Okay.
00:13:14Their wedding was supposed to be on Christmas Eve.
00:13:17Oh.
00:13:18Yeah.
00:13:19Ouch.
00:13:20Yeah.
00:13:21It was before you moved here.
00:13:23Needless to say, I don't think she's a fan of Christmas anymore.
00:13:27I get that, I guess.
00:13:30No.
00:13:31Christmas is about coming together.
00:13:32I mean, I'm sure her family would have been there for her.
00:13:34Her mom doesn't stop talking about how much she misses her.
00:13:37Well, not everyone handles loss the same way.
00:13:39And she took what happened to her and spun it into her career for herself.
00:13:43The travel blogger.
00:13:45Yeah.
00:13:46She took what was supposed to be their honeymoon vacation, wrote a blog about it, and the whole
00:13:50thing just went viral.
00:13:51You know, single girl, traveling solo, breaking away from traditions, all that kind of stuff.
00:13:56Wow.
00:13:56Yeah.
00:13:57I was really surprised to see her in town this close to Christmas, to be honest with you.
00:14:02She always does this post about being alone over the holidays.
00:14:06She's always flying off somewhere new.
00:14:09But to dislike Christmas, I just, I don't know, I can't wrap my head around it.
00:14:13I mean, it's the best time of the year.
00:14:16The way the kids light up around the hospital and just, the way it feels around town, I
00:14:20don't know.
00:14:21Well, if I know anyone that could turn a Christmas cynic into a Christmas lover, it would be
00:14:26you.
00:14:27All I'm saying is, working with Soph, you've definitely got your work cut out for you.
00:14:31As wonderful as she is, she's as fiery as they come.
00:14:45Christmas is knocking outside our door.
00:14:50Let's let it all in.
00:14:52Children have been waiting.
00:14:56They can't wait.
00:14:57Morning.
00:14:58Morning.
00:15:08I gather you don't like Christmas music.
00:15:10You gather correctly.
00:15:13Oh, thank you.
00:15:15It's way too early.
00:15:16I need espresso hooked up to my veins.
00:15:18Actually, hot chocolate.
00:15:19Mmm.
00:15:21Uh, thought we'd start the day with some Christmas cheer.
00:15:27Yeah.
00:15:29Is 8am a little too early for hot chocolate, or?
00:15:32I know, I just thought we'd boost our Christmas spirit before we got started.
00:15:36Yeah.
00:15:39We can stop and get an espresso.
00:15:40Yeah, let's do that.
00:15:41Okay.
00:15:54Oh.
00:15:55Mom wasn't kidding when she said the earnings have gone down.
00:16:00Last year's donations were way below normal.
00:16:03Ticket sales are down too.
00:16:05I mean, we're just not pulling in the people from neighboring towns like we used to.
00:16:10Oh, and looks like the theme hasn't changed in the last few years either.
00:16:15Whose idea was that?
00:16:16How boring.
00:16:19Oh, um, look, I'm just saying I just think it needs, like, a little innovation.
00:16:28Innovation.
00:16:29With Christmas.
00:16:31Yeah, I mean, nobody wants to go to the same stuffy winter wonderland ball every single year.
00:16:36You know, I just think it needs a little shake-up.
00:16:39I don't know.
00:16:40I think people like traditional.
00:16:42Something they're used to, you know?
00:16:43It's comforting.
00:16:45Do they?
00:16:46I mean, or do they like excitement and newness and adventure?
00:16:49Yeah.
00:16:50You know, like a Christmas carnival.
00:16:52Yeah, I saw one in Costa Rica two years ago on my way to a surf lesson.
00:16:56It seemed really popular.
00:16:58Christmas carnival.
00:16:59Yeah.
00:17:00Yeah, we could set up games and stalls on one side of the restaurant.
00:17:04Make it more interactive.
00:17:06And then on the other side, we could have dinner and dancing.
00:17:09You know, bring in new people, new faces, more donations.
00:17:15I don't know.
00:17:16It seems...
00:17:18I'm supposed to help, and I think this could help.
00:17:23Okay, I guess we can think about trying that.
00:17:26Great.
00:17:29Okay, this one is perfect for the event.
00:17:35Oh, no, no.
00:17:37No, no, no.
00:17:37Way too small.
00:17:40So...
00:17:41This one, though.
00:17:41This one is going to look great.
00:17:52Okay, first order of business is done.
00:17:57Now I will contact rental places for the carnival games, and you can do whatever it is you need to
00:18:03do.
00:18:04Go back to the hospital, do doctor things.
00:18:06I'm sure you're very busy, and I've got the rest under control.
00:18:09I thought we were working on this together.
00:18:12And I took some vacation days, so I have time.
00:18:15Right.
00:18:16I work better alone, and I've got most of the organization handled from here on out anyways.
00:18:21Whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:18:21Hey, now.
00:18:22I have been running this event with your family for the past three years.
00:18:25I think I have a pretty good idea of what needs to get done.
00:18:29And...
00:18:31To be honest, I don't want you taking out any Christmas traditions that are important to the town.
00:18:38I've heard all about your blog.
00:18:39Oh, really?
00:18:40Yes.
00:18:42Look, I let the Christmas carnival thing slide because, sure, that might be a good idea.
00:18:47We can give it a try.
00:18:49And I let you pick the tree you liked, even though the one I picked had branches that were way
00:18:54more lush.
00:18:55We have been doing just fine with this event, and I think there are some things that people here would
00:19:00want to keep just the way they are.
00:19:02Okay, but I'm the one who grew up in this town.
00:19:05Yeah, and you abandoned it.
00:19:09I did not abandon it.
00:19:10I moved on, and...
00:19:12Do you know what?
00:19:13Can you just keep your Mr. Christmas vibe to yourself, okay?
00:19:16I'm just here to help my mom.
00:19:19I will meet you in the car.
00:19:20I just have to get some inventory sheets from the office.
00:19:25Can't wait.
00:19:30Mr. Christmas?
00:19:39I just got them down now.
00:19:41They're so excited about Santa coming in a couple days, I can barely get them to shut their eyes.
00:19:46Oh, I remember when you two were that excited about Santa coming.
00:19:49You used to stay up all night together, writing letters, telling them about your day.
00:19:54Yeah, you remember?
00:19:55Sophie's letters were always like novels.
00:19:57Oh, they were.
00:19:58You have always had a lot to say.
00:20:02Oh, do you remember how we used to bake a big batch of sugar cookies to leave for him on
00:20:06Christmas Eve?
00:20:07Of course I remember.
00:20:09And then Dad would always have to taste test the cookies to make sure they were good enough for Santa.
00:20:13Do you remember that?
00:20:15Yes, he did.
00:20:16Oh, he was such a character.
00:20:18He loved this time of year so much.
00:20:22Oh, that reminds me.
00:20:24Sweetie, can you stop by Sam's this week and pick me up one of those gingerbread houses?
00:20:28I want to decorate one with the kids.
00:20:31Sure, Mom.
00:20:34Thanks for the help, Soph.
00:20:35It's been really great.
00:20:37Of course.
00:20:38Speaking of help, how was your first day with Dr. Miller?
00:20:43Uh, fine.
00:20:44Yeah, fine.
00:20:46Though he does seem a little opinionated on how we run our family charity.
00:20:51Well, he has been helping me for years and he cares a lot about those kids.
00:20:56It's his event now as much as it is ours.
00:20:59I'm just saying he seems a little unadaptable.
00:21:03Stuck in his ways.
00:21:04I don't know.
00:21:05That is very interesting coming from the most stubborn person that I have ever met.
00:21:11Don't.
00:21:12You may be fairly new to town, but this is important to him and he has really taken it
00:21:17all on.
00:21:18Now, I know how headstrong you can be, so go easy on him.
00:21:22That's all I'm asking, alright?
00:21:24You know, it might be good for you to learn how to do things for other people and not solo,
00:21:28right?
00:21:34You weren't kidding.
00:21:35This is going to be way harder than I thought.
00:21:36She wouldn't let me get a word in edgewise and she wants to take over the whole thing.
00:21:41Yeah, I was afraid that might happen.
00:21:43I mean, she clearly doesn't want to work together and she wants to change everything.
00:21:47What did I tell you?
00:21:50Soph is a force to be reckoned with.
00:21:52She was the wild one out of the Montgomery clan.
00:21:55It's just, I've worked so hard with Helen over the past few years and I don't want to
00:21:59throw away everything we've built.
00:22:01Well, you could tell her how you feel.
00:22:03If you could ever get her to sit still long enough to actually listen to you.
00:22:08I mean, okay, obviously I want to raise more money for the wing, of course.
00:22:13It's just, I don't know, I don't want to turn into some social media worthy thing.
00:22:19Would that be bad?
00:22:20You know what I mean?
00:22:22Something flashy instead of the town coming together to help.
00:22:25Yeah, well I guess you're just about to get through to her somehow.
00:22:29Turn on that homegrown Dr. Miller charm.
00:22:32Yeah, right.
00:22:36Yeah.
00:22:38You're right.
00:22:40Show her what she's been missing these past few years.
00:22:43Yeah.
00:22:44Christmas here is pretty great.
00:22:46Maybe try reminding her.
00:22:48I'm sorry you closed.
00:22:50The light was still on so I wasn't sure.
00:22:52Yes.
00:22:52No, it's fine.
00:22:55I haven't closed up the till yet.
00:22:59What can I get for you?
00:23:00Well, tomorrow's the last day of school before the holiday break so I was hoping to get the students some
00:23:05special treats.
00:23:07Oh, so that's why you're always voted favorite teacher.
00:23:10You bribed them with sugar.
00:23:13You're probably going to need one of those big boxes from the back, right?
00:23:15I'll grab you one.
00:23:18Thanks.
00:23:21You know, I was sorry you go.
00:23:24Well, I was just going to ask if you had any big festive plans for the holiday.
00:23:28I don't know.
00:23:29Probably just grading papers and nothing too exciting.
00:23:34Oh.
00:23:35Well, I, um, if you, there you go.
00:23:41I got one of everything in there for you.
00:23:42I know Sam wants the kids to have a good mix.
00:23:45Thanks.
00:23:47Oh, that's going to be up next week already.
00:23:49That's right.
00:23:50Sam puts on a good show.
00:23:52Every year.
00:23:54And you, Miss Morrison, will you be there?
00:23:57I'll be there.
00:23:58And please, call me Mary.
00:24:08I think that went well.
00:24:10Me too.
00:24:11She said call her Mary.
00:24:16Okay, so now that we've got the tree, the carnival games are being delivered to the restaurant tomorrow.
00:24:22Next order of business is silent auction.
00:24:27That seems a little dated.
00:24:29Well, we've been doing it for the last three years.
00:24:31It's become sort of a-
00:24:32tradition, I know.
00:24:33But it's really not working for you.
00:24:35You're not bringing in the money.
00:24:38Barely broke even last year after paying out the staff.
00:24:41We just need to shake things up a little.
00:24:42Okay, fine.
00:24:43You want to shake things up?
00:24:44What would you change?
00:24:48The food.
00:24:49The food?
00:24:50The food?
00:24:51It's your family's restaurant.
00:24:53I mean, that's-
00:24:53That's crazy, right?
00:24:55No, because no one will be expecting it.
00:24:58They'll think it'll be the same boring Montgomery turkey dinner like it is every year.
00:25:02But we-
00:25:03I think we should bring in some newness.
00:25:04Something fresh.
00:25:08There's this new French place called Chez Josephine.
00:25:11I found it online.
00:25:13It's just been blowing up with followers.
00:25:16It's getting insane reviews and it's just one town over.
00:25:19Maybe they could cater.
00:25:20You know, let's bring a little bit of Europe to Willowbrook.
00:25:24Elevate the cuisine.
00:25:26I think I should call and see if we'll take the order.
00:25:29People are expecting a traditional turkey dinner.
00:25:32Not something so she-she.
00:25:35Look, we're really not trying to reinvent the wheel here.
00:25:38We're just trying to raise some money for some sick kids.
00:25:40Which is exactly what I'm trying to do.
00:25:42Not keep everything a Christmas tradition.
00:25:44But actually bring in some money.
00:25:50I just have to get this.
00:25:53Bailey!
00:25:54Hi!
00:25:55Soph!
00:25:55I just wanted to check in.
00:25:57Let you know that I emailed you your flight and hotel arrangements.
00:25:59I have you in a window seat as you've requested.
00:26:01I did and-
00:26:02Hun?
00:26:04The connection is really scratchy.
00:26:06Are you heading into a tunnel or something?
00:26:08Uh, no.
00:26:09Just have to pop back to Willowbrook for a few days, unfortunately.
00:26:14Home.
00:26:15Should I be worried?
00:26:17Oh no, no, no.
00:26:18Just helping my mom with her family charity event.
00:26:23Okay.
00:26:24Yeah, it's this, uh, new angle I thought I would try.
00:26:28Starting the article at home in my country bump in town where everyone is annoyingly obsessed with everything at Christmas.
00:26:37Mm-hmm.
00:26:39Yeah, starting the article before I escape on the 24th.
00:26:43Oh.
00:26:44Okay, tell me more.
00:26:46Um.
00:26:48Oh well, there's this one subject in particular that I have to spend time with here that I'll be focusing
00:26:54on.
00:26:55A, uh, Mr. Christmas, if you will.
00:26:59It's this guy who is so tradition and Christmas obsessed.
00:27:03It's, well, it's too much.
00:27:05The juxtaposition will really amp up the cynicism you're used to seeing from me.
00:27:09I think people are just gonna eat it up.
00:27:10I love it.
00:27:12Because big news.
00:27:13Avanti International Online has picked up your publication and wants to run it on all of its platforms.
00:27:18This is huge for you.
00:27:20Your viewership is going to skyrocket.
00:27:22And the direction you're going could be gold.
00:27:25Keep it up and send me the pages with this new Mr. Christmas angle as soon as possible.
00:27:29Great.
00:27:29Sounds great.
00:27:30Okay, bye.
00:27:31Bye.
00:27:40So, how about this?
00:27:43I get to change the food, which will likely bring in more people and more money.
00:27:47And you get to keep your silent auction.
00:27:51Oh, is that a genuine Sophie Montgomery compromise?
00:27:54They only come around once in a blue moon, so you best jump on it.
00:27:58So you're saying you're ready to finally start working together on this thing?
00:28:01Well, it would appear that that is what I'm saying, yes.
00:28:05Deal?
00:28:09Deal.
00:28:12Okay.
00:28:13The hat, what do we think?
00:28:15Absolutely not.
00:28:17Like, wait, like the size? I think it fits.
00:28:19All the things.
00:28:20I like it.
00:28:32Hey.
00:28:41Are you trying to fatten the hat?
00:28:43Always.
00:28:46You're working on your article already?
00:28:48Yeah, trying to. It's not going well.
00:28:51It's this new angle.
00:28:53I thought it would...
00:28:55Don't worry about it.
00:28:56Actually, I wanted to ask you.
00:28:57So, I bought Lily and make her own airplane kits, because I know how she loves to build things.
00:29:03And I got Jack a train set.
00:29:04Is he still into trains?
00:29:05Oh, he is definitely still into trains.
00:29:09I know more about trains than any normal sane person should.
00:29:12So, cool.
00:29:13Yes.
00:29:14They always love everything you get them.
00:29:16You're their favorite auntie.
00:29:18Well, I'm their only auntie, but...
00:29:20Sure.
00:29:20It's true.
00:29:21It's true.
00:29:23You know, it might be nice though, if you were home, to watch them open their gifts in person.
00:29:29You know?
00:29:31I...
00:29:31It's okay.
00:29:33It's just been really nice having you home.
00:29:35Even for a little bit, you know?
00:29:37I missed your stupid face.
00:29:39I missed your stupid face.
00:29:43I think I can go check on Mom.
00:29:45She's probably feeding them enough sugar to keep them up for three days straight.
00:29:48She does love doing that, doesn't she?
00:29:50Mm-hmm.
00:29:51Being the cool grandma means she gets to spoil them too much for their own good.
00:29:54Night, dummy.
00:29:55Love you.
00:29:56Love you.
00:29:58Eat.
00:29:59Okay.
00:30:13Let me guess.
00:30:14Cranberry Danish?
00:30:15You know what?
00:30:16Normally, yes.
00:30:17But I think it's a plain croissant kind of day.
00:30:21You picking up self?
00:30:22Yeah.
00:30:23I'm going over the prizes for the silent auction.
00:30:26So...
00:30:26A lot to get through.
00:30:30Thank you, sir.
00:30:32Hey, beers later?
00:30:32You know it.
00:30:35Good morning, Ms. Morrison.
00:30:37Good morning, Dr. Miller.
00:30:40Morning, Ms. Morr...
00:30:41Mary.
00:30:43What can I get for you?
00:30:44Oh, well, actually I came to sign up for this.
00:30:47As a contestant.
00:30:50Yeah?
00:30:52Great, that's...
00:30:53Well, I'll add you to the list right now.
00:31:01Uh...
00:31:01And, um...
00:31:03After the competition, I, um...
00:31:07Well, are you...
00:31:09Would you like to...
00:31:11Yes.
00:31:12The answer to whatever you were going to ask is yes, I'd like that.
00:31:17Good.
00:31:18Great.
00:31:19Excellent.
00:31:22I, uh...
00:31:23Well, I'll look forward to it.
00:31:26See you then.
00:31:27I'll see you then.
00:31:41Well, this one here I'm willing to donate for the auction.
00:31:44I did all the engravings on her by hand.
00:31:47She's a real beaut.
00:31:49I sure hope this helps those kids.
00:31:50Yeah, every little bit helps.
00:31:51Thank you so much, Jack.
00:31:52It really means a lot.
00:31:53I know someone's going to be very excited to get this for Christmas.
00:31:56Oh, my pleasure as always.
00:31:58Hey, since you're here, how about the two of you take it for a spin on the hill?
00:32:03See what you're selling.
00:32:04Oh, no.
00:32:06Um...
00:32:06We still have loads to do.
00:32:08Our checklist is stacked.
00:32:09Oh, come on.
00:32:09Our checklist can wait.
00:32:11Let's have some holiday fun.
00:32:12When was the last time you did something festive?
00:32:15Uh...
00:32:16Festive's not my jam.
00:32:17It'll be fun.
00:32:18Come on.
00:32:18No.
00:32:19We're doing it.
00:32:20Hey, yo.
00:32:20It'll be fun.
00:32:21No.
00:32:22I have the keys.
00:32:23You can't leave without me.
00:32:36Okay, Mr. Christmas.
00:32:38Let's get this over with.
00:32:40Mr. Christmas, huh?
00:32:42Hey.
00:32:42You keep calling me that.
00:32:44I like it.
00:32:45I am festive and oh so jolly.
00:32:47I'm not sure how much further back I can roll my eyes.
00:32:51Oh, go on, Miss Scrooge.
00:32:52Get on the dang sled.
00:32:55Oh, no.
00:32:56No, no, no.
00:32:56I'd really rather not.
00:32:58Okay.
00:32:58What is it that makes you dislike Christmas so much anyway?
00:33:02Oh, come on.
00:33:03I'm sure you already know why I don't come home this time of year anymore.
00:33:07I know how much Sam talks.
00:33:08Okay.
00:33:08Maybe I know a little bit.
00:33:10But I wanted to hear from you.
00:33:12Straight from the reindeer's mouth, as they say.
00:33:16Do they say that?
00:33:18They do now.
00:33:18I, um, okay.
00:33:20Well, uh, as you must already know, four years ago I was supposed to get married on Christmas Eve to
00:33:25the love of my life.
00:33:25Didn't work out.
00:33:26End of story.
00:33:27So.
00:33:28Let's go.
00:33:29Why miss out on Christmas because of that?
00:33:32Maybe because everything associated with it reminds me of it and the holiday's tainted.
00:33:37And I really don't want to talk about it.
00:33:38So let's just not.
00:33:39Okay?
00:33:39Okay.
00:33:40Okay.
00:33:40We don't have to talk about it.
00:33:42Okay.
00:33:42But let's go down once.
00:33:44I mean, we're already up here.
00:33:45It's faster if we go down together.
00:33:46Then we can get back to the pressing checklist.
00:33:53Fine.
00:33:53Fine.
00:33:53Okay.
00:33:54All right.
00:33:54Let's do it.
00:33:55Come on.
00:33:59Okay.
00:34:01You ready?
00:34:02Ready as I'll ever be.
00:34:03Three, two, one.
00:34:06Ah!
00:34:07Ah!
00:34:09Ah!
00:34:11Ah!
00:34:12Ah!
00:34:12Ah!
00:34:16Ah!
00:34:17Ah!
00:34:18Ah!
00:34:20Ah!
00:34:22Okay.
00:34:23We did it.
00:34:23So can we go now?
00:34:24Oh, come on.
00:34:25I'm just trying to boost your Christmas cheer a little bit.
00:34:27You haven't had a real Christmas in a long time.
00:34:30Yeah, and I don't want to or need to.
00:34:32Look, I'm just here to help my mom and leave as quickly as I can.
00:34:35Can you please, please just stop trying to boost my cheer or whatever and can we please just get back
00:34:40to work?
00:34:41Okay?
00:34:42Okay.
00:34:43Okay.
00:34:43Okay, so let's go.
00:34:47You know what?
00:34:48I left my keys at the top of the hill.
00:34:51Must have fallen out of my pocket as I was getting on the sled.
00:34:55So, we should probably head back up there and get him.
00:35:00And then come back to hell.
00:35:08Hey, wait up!
00:35:10Ooh, okay, handsome doctor.
00:35:13Mm-hmm.
00:35:14Yes.
00:35:15But no.
00:35:16Not like that.
00:35:18At all.
00:35:19He's actually driving me kind of nuts.
00:35:21And now I have to include him in my post because I opened my big stupid mouth to Bailey and
00:35:25she left the idea.
00:35:26I was on the spot.
00:35:28I didn't know what to say.
00:35:29Well, to have the opportunity to be in Avanti International is massive, babe.
00:35:33I wouldn't give that up for anything.
00:35:35I know.
00:35:36But I'm not sure how much more of his Christmas joy I can handle.
00:35:41Oh, come on.
00:35:42To be honest, the sledding sounded kind of fun.
00:35:44And who knows, maybe some of this Mr. Christmas spirit will rub off on you.
00:35:48Yeah, no.
00:35:50I would rather be spirited with a Mai Tai in my hand on the beach.
00:35:53Thank you very much.
00:35:55All I'm saying is that it sounds like you're going to have to work with this guy so you may
00:35:58as well make the best of it.
00:35:59And you can pour all of that festive pessimism into the article.
00:36:03Bailey will love it.
00:36:04Yeah.
00:36:05You're right.
00:36:06I'm going to go check on my mom.
00:36:08Love you.
00:36:09Love you.
00:36:10Ooh, and let me know if this handsome doctor needs a date to the charity event.
00:36:13I would drive through some treacherous snow conditions for that.
00:36:18Okay, I will let you know.
00:36:19Bye.
00:36:20Bye.
00:36:36Hey mom.
00:36:37Hi.
00:36:37Did I get you anything?
00:36:39Maggie dropped off some of those savory cheese tarts earlier.
00:36:42Share some with me?
00:36:43Yes.
00:36:44I haven't had one of those in ages.
00:36:49It is.
00:36:50Mmm.
00:36:51Mmm.
00:36:54Mmm.
00:36:56Yum.
00:37:01Mmm.
00:37:03Mmm.
00:37:03So good.
00:37:04Mmm.
00:37:05Mmm.
00:37:07Mmm.
00:37:07So, how are you and Dr. Miller getting on?
00:37:10I don't know if I happened to mention, but he is very single.
00:37:16Mom.
00:37:17Hmm.
00:37:17Just information I thought you should know.
00:37:19He is quite handsome and kind.
00:37:23Mom, please.
00:37:23Oh.
00:37:24Come on.
00:37:25When was the last time you went on a date anyway?
00:37:28It's a little off brand, don't you think?
00:37:29I am solo Sophie.
00:37:31Yes.
00:37:32Yes.
00:37:32You have always been such a free spirit and I never want you to let that part of you go.
00:37:38Though, it might be okay to think about letting someone in again.
00:37:43You have so much love to give, sweetheart.
00:37:46Yeah.
00:37:47I just don't know where to put it.
00:37:51Did you always know Dad was the one?
00:37:53Oh.
00:37:53No.
00:37:55No.
00:37:56Not at first.
00:37:57You know, it's strange.
00:38:00All of the things that drove me crazy about your father when I first met him
00:38:03were all of the things that I grew to love most.
00:38:07Funny that.
00:38:12I wish you were here.
00:38:14I miss him.
00:38:17Me too.
00:38:23Anyway, I better get to bed.
00:38:25Finn is picking me up really early.
00:38:27Dr. Miller has made an early riser out of you.
00:38:30I never thought I'd see the day.
00:38:33Night, Mom.
00:38:36Goodnight, my love.
00:38:50Hi.
00:38:50Hi.
00:38:51I was just waiting in the car.
00:38:53I thought it was at 8.
00:38:53Yeah, sorry.
00:38:54I'm running late.
00:38:55I'm just trying to...
00:38:56I can't find my...
00:38:59Oh.
00:39:00Okay.
00:39:02Okay, let's go.
00:39:03Oh, before we go to the restaurant, do you mind if we stop at Sam's?
00:39:06I want to pick up a gingerbread house for my mom.
00:39:08Sure.
00:39:09Great.
00:39:11Thanks.
00:39:14There you go.
00:39:14And there's icing and all the candy fixings in here.
00:39:19Anything else?
00:39:20No, thank you.
00:39:21Uh, you know what?
00:39:23Actually, I might get one more.
00:39:25The drinks table looks a little bare right now.
00:39:27Could use the gingerbread house on it.
00:39:29I think it'll look good for decoration.
00:39:31Are you gonna decorate it?
00:39:33Yeah, I can do it while you set up the games.
00:39:34I don't know if we can trust you with such an integral Christmas-themed task like gingerbread house decorating.
00:39:41Are you saying you don't think I can decorate a gingerbread house?
00:39:45No, no.
00:39:46I'm saying I don't think you can decorate a gingerbread house as well as I can.
00:39:52Oh, is that a challenge?
00:39:54I think it might be.
00:39:55Sam?
00:39:56We're gonna need another one.
00:39:58One more, please.
00:40:03So, here's the deal.
00:40:05One hour, the winner gets their house as decoration for the party.
00:40:10And the loser...
00:40:12We're gonna eat the loser.
00:40:14Uh-huh.
00:40:16And...
00:40:17Go!
00:40:22So, decorating gingerbread houses is something you did before you gave up on Christmas?
00:40:28I did, but this is for the event.
00:40:30And more that I want to beat you.
00:40:33Ah, jub-jubes for the roof.
00:40:36Interesting choice.
00:40:37Hey, eyes on your own gingerbread house.
00:40:41You know, there's lots of places in the world that don't do gingerbread houses at Christmas.
00:40:46It's just not a tradition in some countries.
00:40:48Oh, yeah?
00:40:49Mm-hmm.
00:40:50Where have you been that has different traditions than home?
00:40:54Well...
00:40:55Two years ago, I was in Venezuela, and they shut down the streets so that people can roller skate in
00:41:01the early mornings.
00:41:02Roller skate?
00:41:02Yeah, it's wild. Just floods of people.
00:41:05I think the legend goes something like...
00:41:08The children used to tie a piece of string around their toe, and the other end would dangle out the
00:41:13window,
00:41:14and the skaters roll past in the morning and tug on the string, so the children know when to strap
00:41:19on their skates.
00:41:21That's so cool.
00:41:23Oh, and in Sweden, there's the burning of the Yule Goat.
00:41:28Burning of the Yule Goat?
00:41:30Mm-hmm.
00:41:31I need so much more information.
00:41:34You really have seen the world.
00:41:35I highly recommend it.
00:41:42Your door is a little lopsided.
00:41:45What?
00:41:46It just...
00:41:49It's an artistic choice.
00:41:51You know what?
00:41:52Eyes on your own, gingerbread house.
00:41:55Okay.
00:42:00Mm-hmm.
00:42:01Well, I think it's clear who the winner is.
00:42:03Indeed it is.
00:42:04Good effort, though.
00:42:05Yeah?
00:42:06Oh.
00:42:08You think you won?
00:42:09No.
00:42:10I commend your effort, but mine is the quick winner.
00:42:12I think you won a little heavy on the candy canes, no?
00:42:15What?
00:42:17Well, I think your icing skills need work, and your front lawn is just too busy.
00:42:22What?
00:42:24We're not gonna come to an agreement on this, are we?
00:42:28Hmm, maybe we take them to the hospital?
00:42:30Let the kids vote?
00:42:34They'll love that.
00:42:35Yeah.
00:42:38But first...
00:42:40Back to work.
00:42:41Mm-hmm.
00:42:42Hello!
00:42:43I'm...
00:43:00Hey, der.
00:43:01I'm ready.
00:43:02I'm ready, my rock.
00:43:03You m...
00:43:04I'm ready.
00:43:05I'm ready, my...
00:43:09And I'm ready.
00:43:27I don't need a fancy watch. You can give the elves a break. You can make it in the shop.
00:43:41You can't put it on your sleigh. You know me so well that nobody else can do what you do.
00:43:51I just want to fall in love this Christmas. I just want to fall in love.
00:44:12Save the wrapping paper, your ribbon and ball. I don't need that extra stuff.
00:44:25From a self-proclaimed solo gal who has sworn off the festivities of the month of December in lieu of
00:44:31my single adventures, having to work alongside the Mr. Christmas has been exhausting at best.
00:44:44The sand and sun of the Maldives are calling my name and I cannot wait to step away from this
00:44:49forced partnership from the past week.
00:44:51I look forward to shedding all things Christmas and donning a bikini in just a few more days. It could
00:44:58not come soon enough.
00:45:20I look forward to seeing you. It could not come soon.
00:45:28Let me see you in that grand prize.
00:45:28I will see you in the next year.
00:45:38and that was Billy Dove with Be Sweet and now back to our regular Christmas
00:45:42cheer. Christmas is only a few sleeps away.
00:46:12Christmas is only a few sleeps away.
00:46:57Christmas is only a few sleeps away.
00:47:13Here, can I help you with this?
00:47:15No, I'm fine, thank you.
00:47:17That was more of a statement, less of a question.
00:47:20We're working together for the next couple of days.
00:47:22Then you can feel free to go back to doing things all by yourself.
00:47:47Oh, wow.
00:47:50What's that?
00:47:52This box.
00:47:53It must have come from the back.
00:47:55It's from when my dad used to decorate the tree for the charity each year.
00:48:00I haven't seen these in years.
00:48:05Every year my sister and I would sit down and make a Christmas ornament with our dad.
00:48:10And then we would come here and set up the tree for the event.
00:48:15It was our own little contribution.
00:48:17It felt like we were helping in some way.
00:48:20Oh, yeah?
00:48:21Yeah.
00:48:22And we would stand right here.
00:48:26And right before we put our ornament on the tree, our dad would tell us to hold it in
00:48:30our hands like this.
00:48:32Close our eyes and make a Christmas wish.
00:48:35And then when we'd hang it on the tree, our wishes would go up to the Christmas angels.
00:48:43Silly.
00:48:44No, no.
00:48:45It's...
00:48:46It's sweet.
00:48:48Your dad sounds like he was a pretty special guy.
00:48:53He was.
00:48:58Anyways, stop slacking.
00:49:00We should get this done before it's too fast.
00:49:02No, no, we should put these on the tree.
00:49:03It'll add some homemade Montgomery charm.
00:49:09Alright.
00:49:15I believe you're forgetting something.
00:49:18Seriously?
00:49:19Yes.
00:49:20The angels will be very disappointed if they don't hear your Christmas wish.
00:49:24Here, I'll uh...
00:49:28I'll do it too.
00:49:28Okay.
00:49:31Okay, so...
00:49:32Like this?
00:49:33Exactly.
00:49:34Uh-huh.
00:49:35Now close your eyes.
00:49:36And make a wish.
00:49:37Uh-huh.
00:49:51Ladies first.
00:49:59Just...
00:50:04I hope you get your wish, Sophie.
00:50:13Okay.
00:50:15Ready?
00:50:16So ready.
00:50:18I think we have to do a countdown.
00:50:20Is...
00:50:20Is that a Christmas rule, or...?
00:50:23Yes.
00:50:24I believe it is.
00:50:26Okay.
00:50:28Okay, on three.
00:50:29Three.
00:50:30Three.
00:50:31Two.
00:50:31One.
00:50:35Well, I'll say.
00:50:37I think we make a pretty good team.
00:50:41Decorating team.
00:50:43Oh, right.
00:50:44Of course.
00:50:47And you know what?
00:50:48We're done just in time for the Christmas carol competition.
00:50:50Oh, no, no, no, no.
00:50:51Nope.
00:50:52No way.
00:50:53I'm not going to that.
00:50:53You have to.
00:50:54It's a town tradition.
00:50:55I know.
00:50:56My dad used to take us every year.
00:51:00No.
00:51:01Okay.
00:51:02Okay.
00:51:09Okay.
00:51:13Um...
00:51:14Actually...
00:51:15You know what?
00:51:16Why not?
00:51:18Yeah?
00:51:19Yeah.
00:51:21Okay.
00:51:21Yeah.
00:51:25Thanks.
00:51:36And a happy new year.
00:51:46Give it up for Miss Morrison!
00:51:50Now, we have five more brave contestants competing for the very prestigious title of Willowbrook's Carol, King or Queen.
00:51:58Woo-hoo!
00:51:59Woo!
00:52:00Ha!
00:52:00So, without further ado, performing for her very first time, the wonderfully talented, Emma Addison.
00:52:12Woo-hoo!
00:52:19Break legs.
00:52:23Dashing through the snow, in a one-horse open sleigh.
00:52:40Over the hills we go, laughing all the way, bells on bobtails ring.
00:52:50Making spirits bright.
00:52:53What fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight.
00:52:58Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way.
00:53:04Oh, what fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight.
00:53:20Yeah!
00:53:22Woo-hoo!
00:53:27Give it up for Emma Addison!
00:53:29Give it up for Emma Addison!
00:53:30Woo-hoo!
00:53:31Woo-hoo!
00:53:32Woo-hoo!
00:53:33Woo-hoo!
00:53:33Woo-hoo!
00:53:37Woo-hoo!
00:53:37Woo-hoo!
00:53:38Woo-hoo!
00:53:43I hope it's still not too early for hot chocolate.
00:53:48You know, that was really sweet what you did back there.
00:53:52At least I could do.
00:53:53This town's in a lot for me.
00:53:55You know, I don't think I know why you moved here.
00:54:00Oh, that is because you never asked.
00:54:03Well, I'm asking now.
00:54:05So how did Dr. Finn Miller, pediatrician, end up in sleepy old Willowbrook?
00:54:10Well, it's not some grand adventure story like yours.
00:54:13I'm from a sleepy town just two hours north, Brentwood.
00:54:17Father was the town doctor there and passed the torch on to me.
00:54:22Parents passed away.
00:54:23I got offered a job at the hospital here and that's that.
00:54:27Oh, come on.
00:54:28That's that?
00:54:30I think there might be more to the Dr. Finn Miller story.
00:54:33That's a thing.
00:54:34I really got a chance to make more to the story.
00:54:38I guess I always felt like I was living in my father's shadow a little bit.
00:54:43Always expected me to become a doctor, so that's what I did.
00:54:47Always expected I stay close to home, so I did.
00:54:52Don't get me wrong.
00:54:53I love my job and I love this community.
00:54:57I don't always think there has to be some grand adventure in life.
00:55:00Fine beauty and the little things, you know?
00:55:03Yeah.
00:55:04Like what?
00:55:08Like, how Sam knows everyone's order depending on the mood they are into the shop that day.
00:55:12Or, Mr. Tilton will hand make a toy nutcracker for every kid in the cancer ward each year, even though
00:55:19he retired a million years ago.
00:55:23It's just how it feels different around here at Christmas time.
00:55:28There's a little bit of magic in the air.
00:55:32I don't know.
00:55:33Little things.
00:55:35Simple things.
00:55:37I like that.
00:55:40I guess there's always been a part of me that thinks there could be more out there for me.
00:55:45I can take my work anywhere.
00:55:48I need doctors everywhere.
00:55:52I guess I always just kind of played it safe.
00:55:55Kept my cards a little close to the chest.
00:55:57Well, it's never too late to play a new hand.
00:56:02I'm not very good at card metaphors.
00:56:06What I'm saying is it's never too late to start a new adventure in life.
00:56:11I mean, life's too short not to follow your dreams.
00:56:14As cheesy as that sounds, I think it's true.
00:56:18There's this saying I like.
00:56:20If your dreams don't scare you, they're too small.
00:56:27I like that.
00:56:29Yeah.
00:56:30Maybe it's time to let a little healthy fear into my life.
00:56:33Take a step back from my safe path, you know?
00:56:37All of my...
00:56:37Traditions?
00:56:38Hey, traditions are important.
00:56:41You're never going to shake those out of me.
00:56:42I don't think I could if I tried.
00:56:47Speaking of traditions, would you like to join me for one at Sam's?
00:56:50I know for a fact our checklist is done for the day.
00:56:54Sure.
00:56:54Why not?
00:57:03You go on in.
00:57:05Where are you going?
00:57:07I'll get you in there in a minute.
00:57:09Okay.
00:57:27I'm so glad you could make it.
00:57:28What's this?
00:57:30Finn started it a couple years ago.
00:57:32I thought it would be a great way to get the kids out of the hospital.
00:57:34So it feels more like a normal Christmas.
00:57:43Oh, ho, ho, ho, Merry Christmas!
00:57:48Hello, everybody!
00:57:49How are you all today?
00:57:51Good!
00:57:52You're good?
00:57:52Does anybody want to tell me what they want for Christmas this year?
00:57:56Oh, my goodness!
00:57:57Thank you so much!
00:57:59It's a rainbow!
00:58:00I love it!
00:58:01Why don't you come right up?
00:58:06Oh, ho, ho, ho, ho, I think we can find something about that.
00:58:11Thank you so much, Eve.
00:58:13Does anybody else want to come on up?
00:58:19Hey, you.
00:58:20Hey.
00:58:21Um, thanks for bringing me here today.
00:58:24You're welcome.
00:58:25You have fun?
00:58:27I really did.
00:58:31Oh, that's the caterer for tomorrow.
00:58:33Sorry.
00:58:34One sec.
00:58:36Hello?
00:58:37Yes.
00:58:39What?
00:58:40No, no, no, no, no.
00:58:41No, we put the order in ten days ago.
00:58:44Isn't there anything you can do?
00:58:46It's for charity, and I mean...
00:58:48Okay.
00:58:50Okay.
00:58:51I understand.
00:58:53What's going on?
00:58:55That was J. Josephine.
00:58:57They can't cater the event tomorrow.
00:58:59They messed up, and whoever I talked to never even put the order in.
00:59:03And they've only just realized their mistake now.
00:59:05It's like they didn't even care.
00:59:07So we have no food for tomorrow.
00:59:08Oh, my gosh.
00:59:09What are we going to do?
00:59:10My mom already let all the staff from the restaurant go for Christmas,
00:59:13and no restaurant can cater an event of this size the day before.
00:59:16And being so close to Christmas on such short notice,
00:59:19most places aren't even open anymore.
00:59:22Oh, my gosh.
00:59:23I really messed up.
00:59:24I was trying to change everything.
00:59:26I just thought if I could make it different, it wouldn't be like so messed up.
00:59:28It's okay.
00:59:30Look, we're going to figure this out together.
00:59:36People are going to be expecting a dinner, so...
00:59:38I know.
00:59:39We've sold a ton of tickets this year.
00:59:42We've got lots of people coming in from neighboring towns,
00:59:44not to mention basically all of Willowbrook will be there.
00:59:46That's it.
00:59:47What?
00:59:48What's it?
00:59:49The town.
00:59:51Willowbrook.
00:59:52You saw how everyone came together at the Carol Competition.
00:59:54That spirit runs through the entire town.
00:59:56Maybe we can get everyone to...
00:59:58Yeah.
01:00:00We could reach out to our neighbors.
01:00:02See if they could make a different dish each.
01:00:06Absolutely.
01:00:07And maybe we go traditional turkey this time.
01:00:10No more fancy pants?
01:00:14Um...
01:00:14My neighbor, Mrs. Taylor, makes the best cranberry sauce I ever tasted.
01:00:17Perfect.
01:00:18Let's start knocking on doors, seeing who can help.
01:00:21We provide the groceries.
01:00:22Absolutely.
01:00:23Okay.
01:00:24Finn?
01:00:26Do you really think people will be willing to help like this?
01:00:30Sophie, I think in your travels, you may have forgotten how special this place really is.
01:00:36Come on.
01:00:37We've got to go, and we've got to go now.
01:00:39Right.
01:00:44Hey.
01:00:45Hey.
01:00:46Hey.
01:00:46Hey.
01:00:47Hey.
01:00:47Hey.
01:00:49Hey.
01:00:51Hey.
01:00:56Hey.
01:00:56Hey.
01:00:57Yeah.
01:00:57Happy birthday.
01:00:58Yeah.
01:01:00Sure.
01:01:00That's another great idea.
01:01:02Wow.
01:01:02Hey, thank you.
01:01:11That was the last house.
01:01:13We got the Johnsons doing the mashed potatoes.
01:01:15Miss Robson's doing the stuffing.
01:01:16Of course, Sam's doing the dessert.
01:01:19I can't believe it.
01:01:20I think we got it all covered.
01:01:23Coming together this time of year is what Christmas is all about.
01:01:26Oh, wow.
01:01:29I am Mr. Christmas.
01:01:31You really are.
01:01:34Uh, you know, all this talk of food, it's really got me starved.
01:01:38You, uh, want to grab a bite?
01:01:41I think we earned it.
01:01:42Sure.
01:01:43I mean, it's getting pretty late now.
01:01:44I'm not sure if anywhere in town is going to be open.
01:01:46Well, I don't mean to brag, but I make a pretty mean turkey sandwich with potato chips.
01:01:52Very fancy.
01:01:53Very gourmet.
01:01:54Oh, sounds like you might be giving Shae Josephine a run for their money.
01:02:00Oui.
01:02:03I like that.
01:02:06After you.
01:02:09I like that.
01:02:12I like that.
01:02:18I don't know.
01:02:45Those kids really love you.
01:02:49Yeah, they're amazing.
01:02:51You know, the new wing is not just about updating the facilities.
01:02:55It's about enabling the newest treatments to be available here.
01:02:58Giving the kids access to the best medicine in the world.
01:03:02That's why this year really means a lot.
01:03:05I hope we can come through for them.
01:03:07Me too.
01:03:13So, I see you've put your decorating skills to work at home.
01:03:18It's a beautiful tree.
01:03:20Whoa.
01:03:21I don't think I've heard you say something so positive about something so quintessentially Christmas.
01:03:25I'll have you know that at one point in time, Christmas was my favorite holiday.
01:03:30Really?
01:03:31Yeah.
01:03:32I mean, why do you think I was having a Christmas Eve wedding?
01:03:34It was my favorite.
01:03:37Do you mind if I ask?
01:03:39Okay.
01:03:40What happened?
01:03:43Um, well, I don't even exactly know.
01:03:48Um, he called it off a few hours before I was supposed to have walked down the aisle.
01:03:54And I just remember feeling really heartbroken and so embarrassed.
01:04:01I'm sorry.
01:04:03Thanks.
01:04:04But it was more than that.
01:04:07I'd allowed myself to really lose who I was in that relationship.
01:04:11So what happened after you called it off?
01:04:14Well, I picked myself up after peeling myself off the floor and I went on our honeymoon vacation.
01:04:20So that's what people connected with?
01:04:22I guess so.
01:04:24I just tried to write openly and honestly as it was all happening.
01:04:28You know, about how you should never let anyone or anything give you happiness.
01:04:34Um, it was all a realization for me.
01:04:38I was just getting out how I felt and I guess people connected with that.
01:04:44You know, back then I used to think that if I checked all the boxes, you know, perfect house, get
01:04:49married, have kids, I would be happy.
01:04:53But I realized that that just wasn't true.
01:04:58And not even something I really wanted.
01:04:59Just more what I thought was expected of me.
01:05:03You know?
01:05:09So, you, uh, started the blog?
01:05:12Yeah, I started doing all the things I'd always wanted to do by myself.
01:05:17I really wanted to open the conversation for women who maybe wanted to take a different path to the traditional
01:05:24one.
01:05:27Hey, come on, keep going. I'm, I'm invested now.
01:05:32Okay.
01:05:34Well, I guess after a few years of doing these Christmas posts specifically, I feel like I've kind of got
01:05:44myself stuck in a brand.
01:05:46You know, I never really slowed down enough to see how I really feel now.
01:05:53And how do you feel now?
01:05:56I don't know.
01:05:59I'm so used to being alone and doing my own thing, and I, I don't really know what I'm trying
01:06:06to say.
01:06:07I just, I've never stopped to think about all this, to be honest.
01:06:12I just kept running.
01:06:17You're a very interesting woman, Sophie Montgomery.
01:06:23I think what you did was very brave.
01:06:25Brave?
01:06:26Yeah.
01:06:27I mean, what other person would go out after something like that?
01:06:31Trek halfway around the world, by herself.
01:06:34Start a community of women who aren't afraid to go out and be who they want to be on their
01:06:39own.
01:06:41Braver than me, that's for sure.
01:06:43I'm not so sure about that.
01:06:45I mean, you get up every day to help other people.
01:06:49To me, that's brave.
01:06:52Hm?
01:06:56Here.
01:06:57Get your coat.
01:06:59I want to show you something.
01:07:01Uh, what?
01:07:05Time for dessert.
01:07:08Uh, it's snowing and freezing outside. Why would we go outside for dessert?
01:07:15Do you trust me?
01:07:22What on earth are we doing out here, Dr. Miller?
01:07:26Ahem.
01:07:27It's Dr. Christmas.
01:07:28Thank you very much.
01:07:29And, because you showed me a Montgomery family tradition, I wanted to show you a Millard family tradition.
01:07:36Snow candy.
01:07:37Snow candy?
01:07:38That's right.
01:07:40Every year, the first snowfall, I always got so excited because it meant I got to make snow candy.
01:07:46Okay.
01:07:47Show me how it's done, Dr. Christmas.
01:07:49Well, first off, we have our maple syrup, which I have boiled and added fresh ginger to.
01:07:53Hmm.
01:08:04Nurse Sophia will now be needing my tools.
01:08:08Popsicle stick.
01:08:11Popsicle stick.
01:08:12Second Popsicle stick.
01:08:14Stat!
01:08:15Second Popsicle stick.
01:08:23Sea salt.
01:08:26Sea salt.
01:08:28Sea salt.
01:08:28Voila!
01:08:30The perfect winter treat.
01:08:33Hmm.
01:08:35Cheers?
01:08:36Cheers.
01:08:37Oh, hey!
01:08:39Oh, my snow candy!
01:08:41Oh man, here, you have a, you have a bit, um...
01:08:59Oh.
01:09:02Sorry, I have to take this.
01:09:08Soph, I read the pages you sent on Mr. Christmas.
01:09:11Oh?
01:09:12Oh, yeah, um...
01:09:13They were phenomenal!
01:09:15Mmm.
01:09:17Listen, Bailey, I was thinking, I was thinking maybe we don't go that angle.
01:09:21What?
01:09:21I just think I...
01:09:23Sophie?
01:09:23Sophie, you're breaking up, babe.
01:09:25Listen, if you can hear me, I just wanted to call to say that I sent the pages to Avanti
01:09:29and they loved them.
01:09:30They thought it was hilarious.
01:09:32I mean, people love to hate, right?
01:09:34Anyways, they're running it not only on their online outlets, but on their printed mags, too.
01:09:38They're going to be in the lobby of every single high-end hotel in the world.
01:09:43You're gonna go from 1.5 million followers to 10.5.
01:09:47They're sending me the mock-up for the article tomorrow morning.
01:09:50I'll email it to you as soon as I get it.
01:09:51Okay, they're going with escaping Mr. Christmas.
01:09:54I love it.
01:09:55Uh, Bailey, I...
01:09:57Babe, I can't hear you.
01:09:58I'll send it through tomorrow for you to see.
01:10:00And congrats.
01:10:01You deserve it.
01:10:02Bye!
01:10:08Bye!
01:10:10Sorry.
01:10:11Uh, work.
01:10:12It's okay.
01:10:17Um, it's getting late.
01:10:20Big day tomorrow.
01:10:21Yeah.
01:10:23Yeah.
01:10:23Big day.
01:10:24Um, thank you for dinner.
01:10:26Uh, and snow candy.
01:10:28It was...
01:10:34Okay, well...
01:10:36I'll see you tomorrow.
01:10:39Sure.
01:10:39Okay.
01:10:40Tomorrow.
01:10:57Hey, sweetheart.
01:10:59Your sister just left.
01:11:00She said she stopped by the restaurant today and everything looks really nice.
01:11:05Okay.
01:11:07Uh, uh, uh, uh.
01:11:09Come here.
01:11:12Mom, I just want to go to bed.
01:11:13Sophie Montgomery, come over here and talk to your mother.
01:11:16I know my daughter and I know when something's going on.
01:11:25Okay.
01:11:26Okay.
01:11:27Talk to me.
01:11:31I don't know.
01:11:32I just...
01:11:33I feel a bit lost.
01:11:35Like I'm messing everything up.
01:11:38I think I've made a huge mistake and I know what to do.
01:11:44You are not lost.
01:11:46You are exactly where you're meant to be.
01:11:49Every person has their own journey and you're on yours.
01:11:53Oh, I am very happy that your journey led you home.
01:11:57Even if you can't stay for Christmas Day.
01:12:00I have loved having you here.
01:12:06I've missed you, Mom.
01:12:09I'm sorry I've been away for so long.
01:12:11I just couldn't...
01:12:12Oh, oh, oh, oh.
01:12:13Uh-uh. No, no.
01:12:17You don't have to explain anything, my love.
01:12:20I know.
01:12:25Oh, you know, your father would be so proud of the woman you've become.
01:12:30And you just know, no matter what, no matter where you are in the world, you can always, always come
01:12:39home to the people who love you.
01:12:42We will always be here for you.
01:12:47Oh, I love you, baby girl.
01:12:51I love you, Mom.
01:12:53Merry Christmas.
01:12:58Merry Christmas, sweetheart.
01:13:03Go.
01:13:09Well, maybe you should tell her how you feel.
01:13:11What's that gonna do?
01:13:12I mean, she leaves tonight.
01:13:13I can't.
01:13:15Maybe I can't.
01:13:16I don't know.
01:13:18I can honestly say that I've never seen you this way.
01:13:22This...
01:13:22Fired up.
01:13:24She makes me feel like I can do anything.
01:13:27I don't think I've ever felt like this before.
01:13:32You know, my mom used to always say,
01:13:35you should hold on to what makes you feel most alive.
01:13:44That's it.
01:13:47That's it.
01:13:48Yeah.
01:13:49Oh, Finn.
01:13:50You forgot the...
01:13:51Right.
01:13:51Yeah.
01:13:52Okay.
01:13:54Good luck.
01:13:58Iz, I feel awful.
01:14:00I mean, I know it's my career and I have a lot riding on this, but...
01:14:04You know, I always said I would write with integrity and tell the truth.
01:14:08And this just doesn't feel like the truth anymore.
01:14:11Oh, you like him.
01:14:19I do.
01:14:20I really do.
01:14:22But it's more than that.
01:14:25None of this feels right.
01:14:27Leaving, writing the article...
01:14:32It just all feels...
01:14:35Wrong.
01:14:36Well, do you think you're willing to give up the Avanti International article?
01:14:39The exposure?
01:14:45I don't know.
01:14:54Thank you so much.
01:14:55You're welcome.
01:14:56I hope the kids are good.
01:14:57Of course.
01:15:01I'll do the best.
01:15:03Say hi to your mom.
01:15:04Okay.
01:15:05Mm-hmm.
01:15:11Morning.
01:15:13Morning.
01:15:16You sleep okay?
01:15:17Yeah.
01:15:18Yeah.
01:15:19No.
01:15:20Big day.
01:15:21Wanted to make sure everything was going to go really well.
01:15:24Hard to sleep.
01:15:25A lot on my mind.
01:15:26Yeah, I had some things on my mind I wanted to talk to you about, too.
01:15:30Oh.
01:15:34Where should I put these?
01:15:35Oh, yeah.
01:15:36Um...
01:15:37Here.
01:15:37It's great.
01:15:38I'll just...
01:15:38Oh, sorry.
01:15:42So, now I can check Sam off the list.
01:15:45That's great.
01:15:46Uh, just...
01:15:47Where's my...
01:15:48I must have left in the back.
01:15:50Don't go anywhere.
01:15:57Oh, hey!
01:15:58Sophie!
01:15:58It's...
01:15:59It's here!
01:16:02It...
01:16:10Mr. Christmas' infatuation with injecting jolly spirit in every menial task.
01:16:16It has my stomach turning.
01:16:19Am I to stand for Christmas growing with every day that passes?
01:16:23Oh!
01:16:23There it is.
01:16:26What's wrong?
01:16:29Escaping Mr. Christmas.
01:16:31Really nice.
01:16:32It's a...
01:16:33It's a great title.
01:16:35Finn...
01:16:35I had no idea it was going to be a cover story for you.
01:16:39So, I, uh...
01:16:41I guess I was just...
01:16:43Material for your...
01:16:45No, of course not.
01:16:46To further your career?
01:16:47Some fancy post to boost your profile?
01:16:49It's just...
01:16:49I...
01:16:50I didn't mean what I wrote.
01:16:52I don't even know what...
01:16:53You were the one who called me Mr. Christmas in the first place.
01:16:59Yeah, but...
01:17:01Was it your idea to include me in your article?
01:17:05Yes, but no.
01:17:06It wasn't like that.
01:17:07It was before we...
01:17:08And then...
01:17:08I...
01:17:09I don't even think I know who you really are.
01:17:14You know, maybe you should go.
01:17:16Don't you have a flight to catch?
01:17:18Finn, please.
01:17:19I can explain if I...
01:17:20If I could...
01:17:20You know what?
01:17:21I'll go.
01:17:25Goodbye, Sophie.
01:17:29Have a safe flight.
01:17:58Bye bye.
01:18:04Bye bye.
01:18:08I got a freaking laugh.
01:18:09Bye bye.
01:18:12Bye bye.
01:18:13Bye bye.
01:18:16Bye bye.
01:18:17Bye bye.
01:18:19Bye bye.
01:18:24to my solo soldiers I feel it's time to set the story straight there was a time
01:18:31when my negativity towards Christmas was very real and it came from a place of
01:18:35truth but it's time for me to let that negativity go I've held on to it for far
01:18:42too long and I realize now that I wasn't running away from Christmas I was
01:18:48running away from myself from things I wasn't ready to face I allowed that
01:18:55negativity and cynicism to fuel a narrative that now I no longer believe
01:19:00and for that I need to come clean there is a time for big adventure and for
01:19:07seeking new horizons beyond your daily norm and then there are times to pause
01:19:13reflect and be close to the ones you love to me that is what Christmas is all
01:19:21about I lost sight of that along the way I will never stop traveling the world I
01:19:28will never stop craving adventure but I have come to the realization that I will
01:19:33never again take for granted the beauty and the joy of the comforts of home to
01:19:40cherish the ones you care about hold them tight wrap yourself and love it's all
01:19:48around us it took a very special person to open my eyes to all that was right in
01:19:55front of me I just took the time to look and for that I am forever grateful you can
01:20:05travel the world but there really is no place like home so for the first time in a
01:20:12long time this is Sophie's solo travel saying Merry Christmas
