00:01Australians have always loved the beach so many of us are now making the move to
00:06our beautiful coastlines. Our beachfront dreamers want crashing waves and salty sea
00:15air so grab your sunscreen and join us on the hunt for the ultimate beach house.
00:20It's been a hard day hunting we are in Anglesea on the Great Ocean Road in
00:38Victoria and this is where Suzanne and her family have decided to make their
00:42holiday the everyday. She's got two young boys and they are looking for the perfect
00:47spot to set down their roots here. So I'm shopping with Suzanne and her new best
00:52friend Ingrid who's been living here for a little while so I think she'll have
00:55some input into what makes the perfect beach home. Let's go shopping.
01:04I'm Suze and this is my good friend Ingrid. We're working towards being best
01:09friends. We've known each other for a bit over a year. It's going well. It's going
01:14well. It's going well now. Anglesea has a special place in my heart and my husband's heart. He has
01:21holidayed down the Great Ocean Road his whole life with his family and my grandma has lived here full
01:28time for 40 years. Patrick and I have been living in Melbourne with our two boys and it's time to
01:34live
01:35beachside. We need a lot of space for all of our things. My husband has a boat. We need a
01:43shed for
01:44that. So we need a lot of space for the boys and happy for a bit of work. The budget
01:49we're working
01:50with mid two to three million. Anglesea is located just a few hours southwest of Melbourne past Geelong
02:04and right on the Great Ocean Road. This cosy beachside town is the perfect mix of relaxation
02:11and community offering plenty of amenities without the hassles of a bigger city.
02:18It makes perfect sense to me why Suze and Patrick want to make their favourite holiday spot a permanent home.
02:35Well this isn't a rival. Well hello ladies. Hello. How good's beachside living?
02:44Ingrid you're along for the ride. We'll chat later. Suzanne this is all about you and your family today.
02:49What is it that you're actually after? We want to move out of the city. Bigger block. Moving out of
02:54the city for our two boys to grow up beachside. Lots of space to run around. Probably need a shed.
03:00We've got a boat and a fence. We've got a dog. All right. That sounds like a pretty stocko list.
03:05So we should be right there. And Ingrid you've made your way here all the way from Estonia.
03:09That's right. Ten years ago and I never looked back. It's amazing. How lovely. So you can't wait to have
03:14your mate in town. Absolutely. Sounds good to me. All right. Well here it is. She is a beauty.
03:21Undergone a full renovation. So it's as new inside. As you can see we're perched up here on the top
03:27of
03:27one of the best views I would say in the world of the Great Ocean Road which is one of
03:31the greatest
03:32drives of all time. It's very royal. It's royal. I don't feel like it's royal. It's really like
03:39outstanding. It's huge. It's a bit one colour. Beautiful but I think it's not quite you. A
03:45bit more timber. Yeah. A bit more rustic. Yeah. Here we go.
04:03That's terrible view. Could not live here. Yeah. It's crazy. Oh that's wild.
04:11So up here obviously kitchen, dining, casual living and what I would call the primary suite
04:16off here with an ensuite. But it's all about obviously living out there on that deck with
04:21amazing views over the whole town. Neat as a pin. Beautiful. The kitchen's beautiful.
04:27Feels very much like a holiday house. Yeah. It looked really perfect. Like don't touch anything.
04:34Beachy though right? Beachy vibe. Possibly too clean for my boys. Sand everywhere.
04:41Have a look around. Make yourself at home. Perfect. Thank you. Thank you.
04:48Oh that's beautiful. And sweet. Yeah. And a shower.
05:01Wow. That is crazy. How do you say wow in Estonian? Wow. That is stunning. Wow. It was wow.
05:14I could see myself sitting in there with you every day. With a wine. Yes. With two wines.
05:21Oh geez. Hello. This is the nature. Hi. Hi mate. He's looking at the view too.
05:29What do you think of this house? Do you speak Estonian?
05:34Vow. Vow. Yeah. Yeah. We agree. We should head downstairs. We should head downstairs and see
05:40where we're going to fit your kids. Yeah. Yeah. Bye mate.
05:54Last room? Mm-hmm. Bedroom after bedroom after bedroom. How many? So one, two, three, four, five,
06:02six, seven. You need to have more kids. No. Definitely not. It's a lot of, a lot of beds.
06:09Where's the storage? A few drawers under the bed. That's so true. But that's kind of, yeah.
06:13It could work. It could work. We should head outside. Oh yeah. Shelly's at the bar. Yeah. Let's go.
06:27Come on in. It's five o'clock somewhere. Bar is open. What are we drinking? This is the world's
06:31greatest cubby house by the way. A pool here would be quite nice. Well no, well the fact is you've
06:36got
06:37740 square metres. Yeah. So it's a big block. There's a lot of space to do modifications.
06:43The shed with the bar. This is awesome. That's awesome. But I think, um, can you see a pool?
06:49We need a pool. But it will be really pricey to build. Ooh. Yes. Yeah, maybe. Really pricey.
06:56Let's talk price. What would you be willing to pay? I guess it's probably, it'd be between two and three.
07:02The vendors are asking.
07:20Two seven five. Oh, of course. Yeah. So you're spot on in the price bracket. But yes,
07:25doesn't leave you a lot of play money. If it's a project home where we need to do work on
07:30top of
07:31what we're buying, maybe that's out of our range. But yeah, it depends. Depends. Yeah. Luckily for you,
07:38Susanne, I have two other houses to tell you today. Shall I meet you there? Or do you have an
07:42extra
07:42helmet? I've got a helmet. You can dink me. Let's go.
07:56I beat you down the hill. Hello. So disappointed you didn't have that extra helmet. I know, right?
08:03I would have loved to double on the back of your weapon here. You wanted to live on the Great
08:07Ocean Road.
08:08We are on the Great Ocean Road. We are. One of the original houses of the area, built in like
08:15the 1920s.
08:16Same owner for the last 70 years. It's very original inside. Just over a thousand square meters.
08:23So very subdividable. You could build your dream home here. You could renovate. You so eloquently
08:30dropped. You and your husband loved doing work. This is the one for the work. I knew this might
08:36tickle your fancy. It looks beautiful. I think it's super cute. I really love the fence. Yeah. The stone
08:42fence. Yeah. This has been here a long time. Yeah. But also it's opposite the river, close to the beach.
08:48It's a bit of a mixed bag. Old school vibe. Bit of beachy vibes. Beachy vibes. Yeah. Let's go inside.
09:01Hmm. Character. Lots of. This is wild. In a good way. Yeah. I think it's super cute. It's one of
09:10these
09:10ones that's going to take some imagination. Let me show you the living room and kitchen and then I'll
09:15let you explore. Okay. So the carpet I have to say is almost brand new but I'm sure it's original.
09:24Yes. This is cool. It needs a new ceiling but yeah. How cool is the timber paneling? Yeah.
09:31Warmth and the textures is great. There's bits you'd keep but oh look at that door. That's an interesting
09:36angle. It did take me back home a bit to be honest where I spent all my summers. It had
09:43the same warm
09:45feeling so I think this house has had a lot of good memories. Original kitchen. Whoa.
09:53Yeah. This was the original. The owner had five children and she fed them all out of this space here.
10:01Would you call it a kitchen? It's just a relic. It was just a beautiful relic that maybe you'd keep.
10:06So that's there is a little piece of history and then of course we have kitchen and dining around here.
10:11Oh yes. Wow. This is Val. Yeah. It's Val. It's Val. Would you like to check out the bedrooms? Why
10:19don't
10:19you do that and I'll open up the back? Yes. Okay. Bedrooms. Upstairs. Upstairs. Upstairs. It's
10:26going to be interesting. It's very original. It's a bit spooky. It is a bit spooky. It's kind of like
10:41a bit
10:41of a like a museum vibe. Small. Cute. Yeah. You opened it up. Okay. Maybe. You opened it up maybe
10:50into
10:50one. It's creepy. It is creepy. But it's cute. I mean look at the floors. How nice. They squeak at
10:56night
10:57when you walk. This is cute though. That was an interesting place. Cute. Three bedrooms. I think
11:07we'd open it up. Yeah. They were really small. Let's find Shelly. Let's go. Okay. Okay.
11:22Hello. Yeah. It's a lot. It's a lot. Yeah. It's a little bit spooky. Mm-hmm. Yeah. But potential.
11:28I saw potential. There is no doubt there's a bit of work to be done. Yeah. When you come here
11:32to the
11:33backyard we've got a self-contained cottage over here. We've got another self-contained accommodation
11:37here. As far as development opportunities go this is pretty extraordinary. Yeah right.
11:43I can see your kids kicking footy here. Mm-hmm. If you don't subdivide it. But yeah. But um
11:48no I think it's beautiful. Let's talk price. The one at the top of the hill was 2.75. I
11:54imagine it's
11:55a bit similar. It's on the market for $2,850,000. So yeah. Pretty similar. Yeah. Yep.
12:06Similar to the one up the hill. Mm-hmm. The one up the hill has the view though. Yes. This
12:12has
12:12the road. Mm-hmm. But close to the beach. Something to think about. Yeah.
12:17Hopefully house number three brings it home. Helmets. You've got the address. I'll see you there.
12:21See you there. Okay. Ride carefully.
12:28Coming up. House number three. The quintessential Aussie Beach Shack. We're still on the Great Ocean Road.
12:37Beach Shack. Yeah. Cute. Potential.
12:52Previously. Patrick and I have been living in Melbourne with our two boys and it's time to
12:58live beachside. Here it is. She is a beauty. Undergone full renovation. So it's as new.
13:06Could not live here. Yeah. Oh that's wild.
13:12You wanted to live on the Great Ocean Road. We are on the Great Ocean Road. We are.
13:18One of the original houses of the area. Old school vibes. A bit of beachy vibes. Beachy vibes.
13:24Yeah. Yeah. It's a bit of a mixed bag.
13:34Ooh. Right. House number three. The quintessential Aussie Beach Shack. There is a fence. There is room
13:41for a shed. There's room for a boat, room for a caravan. The house itself is two beds, one bath,
13:46but there's room for improvement. We're still on the Great Ocean Road. A little bit of work. There's a
13:52balance, isn't there? Yeah. Maybe not as, hopefully not as much as the last one, but we'll see. We'll see.
13:57We'll see. We'll see. Beach Shack. Beach Shack. Yeah. Yeah. But a cool beach shack. Yeah. Cute.
14:02Potential. And I love the trees. The trees are awesome. Yeah. It's really beautiful.
14:07Well, let's check out the fit. Come on in. Come on through. This is a pretty good spot to take
14:22it all
14:22in. Wow. There's a lot to take in. There is a lot to take in. You've got so much light
14:28coming in. Yes.
14:29Obviously a holiday home, so they love being in each other's space. If you were to live here day to
14:34day,
14:34you might want to create a few more zones. Kitchen, which again needs some updating.
14:39Tidy enough to work with for now. I can see us in that lounge room. Yes. And the fireplace. When
14:44I say us, I mean me and my boys. Oh, sorry. Sorry. Maybe not you. I feel like we could
14:48judge it up. Yeah.
14:50But we have to do a bit of work here. Cute splashback. Yeah. Yellow tiles. Oh, if you like that,
14:54please have a look in the bathroom. Okay. Got me intrigued. Okay. Let's go. Go girls. Be brave. See you
15:00soon. Yes.
15:13Oh, wow. Wow. Wow. It's awesome. It's a lot. But it's retro. Retro. Groovy. Groovy. Groovy.
15:21Yeah. This is nice. Yes. The view. And how much light. Yeah. Yeah. This is beautiful. And storage.
15:32Storage. All right. That main bedroom, the view out onto the garden. Can you just imagine,
15:40even in winter, it'd be lovely. Like, wake up, put those blinds up, look out at those trees.
15:46Should we go and see Shelley? I think we should see Shelley.
15:59How's that bathroom? It's a lot. That wallpaper. It's a pretty amazing block. And a lot of sheds.
16:07A lot of sheds for all your bits and bobs and your tinkering and your stuff. Not much green on
16:12the
16:12ground. No. Low maintenance. Low maintenance. Yes. Let's talk price. Let's cut to the chase. Yes.
16:20I imagine it's less than the others. 1.5 to 2. Just over 2, maybe. Yeah. Offer's over 1.8.
16:29That's intriguing, isn't it? That is. That's so much cheaper than the others. So much cheaper,
16:35yeah. And then it means we can add things. Yeah. And you can travel. And we could travel.
16:40Mm-hmm. Travel. Good travel. To Estonia. No, don't do that.
16:46Huge decision. It is. We're moving from Melbourne. Yeah. Yeah.
16:50Something to think about, Suze. Gonna need some time.
16:55Coming up. Did any of these homes speak to you? Well, yeah. Um...
17:13After some time reporting back to Patrick, Suze has let me know that they have made a decision.
17:18We're catching up again at the Anglesea Hotel to hear which house they've gone with.
17:22I managed to get into town a little earlier to see the sights and meet some of the locals.
17:30Talia, a third-generation local to Anglesea. They must be hard to come by. There's not many
17:36of you floating around town. There's a few of us, but not too many. There's certainly some
17:39more people that have come in over the years, but it's lovely to still see familiar faces.
17:45You went to high school back in Geelong, which isn't too far from here. Yes.
17:49But now you're working at the Anglesea Hotel. I'm back at the Anglesea Hotel.
17:53My grandparents bought the hotel back in the 1970s, and so to be third-generation here,
17:58to work alongside, you know, my grandparents and parents, I don't think many people could
18:02say that they've had the opportunity to do that, so I'm, yeah, super grateful.
18:05That's pretty awesome. It didn't look like this last time I was here,
18:09so it's undergone a pretty amazing renovation. It has, yeah. No, we're really happy with how it's
18:14turned out. We've finished the deck. Exciting times to come.
18:17Absolutely. Why is this part of the Great Ocean Road so special to you?
18:23I just think it's an untouched piece of paradise here. Lawn's amazing and Torquay's amazing,
18:29but they're just so big. Whereas here, it allows you to just relax. It's tranquil.
18:34We still have everything that people need here. Supermarkets, bakeries, local shops,
18:39cafes, the pub. It's my favourite part of living in this town. It's that community feel,
18:43and what should take five minutes going to the post office is a half an hour job because you're
18:47saying hello to everyone, you're catching up, and that's truly the best part is that community
18:51spirit in this town. And the fact that you are keeping the legacy alive.
18:54Yes. Yeah, no, it's wonderful.
19:10Is this for me? Yes. Please.
19:12How did you go? Hey, I've got a new show idea. Find my local. And girls, this is your local.
19:19It's a good pub. Let's talk through the houses that we saw. So house number one obviously was
19:25beautiful, fully renovated, gorgeous beach home. Very finished. It probably didn't have all the things
19:31we needed, but that view was pretty epic. And it had enough room to do the things you needed to
19:37make it
19:38room. Yeah. Yeah. But quite a distance from the beach. Right. Yeah. But beautiful. Yeah, it was, wasn't it?
19:47House number two. I'm not going to call it beautiful. No, that's a stretch. But she could be.
19:52Vintage. She was potential. I did see a lot in her. Ingrid, you were transported back to Estonia at that
19:59point. I was, yes. In a good way. Like lots of memories of grandma and everything. So yeah.
20:04Maybe this is the one for you. Maybe. You never know. But it was a bit pricey, I think. And
20:09that
20:09massive backyard. Did you speak to Patrick about that? Did. Talked about subdividing. Yeah, a lot of
20:15potential. And then house number three was a little bit further out of town, but an amazing location.
20:22Huge big block, but also needed some work, which as we worked out during the day, you're not averse to.
20:27No. Do love a change. Beautiful beach back, yeah. Yeah, the mint green, faded mint green.
20:34Lots of space, lots of sheds, lots of existing sheds. So less work in the yard, maybe a lot of
20:40work inside.
20:42Did any of these homes speak to you? Well, yeah. Number three. Okay. Definitely our fave. Yeah.
20:52So my husband, the kids, the boys are excited to live here. That sounds great to me. And then this.
20:59Yeah. Why wouldn't we be excited to live here? Yeah. It's a cool town. Thank you so much for allowing
21:04me
21:04in on your little adventure for a home. Thank you. Why wouldn't you want your holiday to be your everyday?
21:10That's right. We're very lucky. Very lucky. Well, since our little Anglesea adventure,
21:18I've heard back from Suze and Patrick to learn that their offer was successful on the property
21:23and that they've already made the big sea change. I wish you all the best for the new coastal lifestyle.
21:28Have a great day...
