00:01Welcome back to another Luanty Modder YouTube. We are looking at the text mod, which, let's put text in world.
00:10And that's really it. So, we see here, this bit of floating text. It's actually a waypoint, really. It just
00:19says behind you. Let's go ahead and look behind us. What's this about? Boo! Oh, I'm so scared, man. Oh,
00:24spooky! I'm terrified.
00:26Floating text! Wow! Wow! And that's what this mod does. It lets you add floating text. Now, the text will
00:35be visible for, and this is configurable, for about 200 nodes. And then it stops being visible. And we can
00:42add our own custom text by just doing the chat command text and then our string inside of double parentheses.
00:52So, we could do the classic Hello World. And I don't know if I look straight up. It's a bit
01:00difficult to see, but there we have it because, you know, the sky is white. It's there someplace. I don't
01:06know where it went. Oh, here we go. Oh, because I was directly under it, of course.
01:10Hello World. We now have some waypoint text. So, we could use this. Um, you know, maybe, like, over here
01:23there's a cave. No, I don't know if this is actually a cave. Is this actually a cave? Sweet. Oh,
01:27the dungeon. Perfect.
01:29And a nice little stairway to get down to it. Wow! Could this day get any better? So, we're going
01:34to go ahead and do text. Now, we can do colors as well. So, to do a colored text, we
01:38need an octetrof, or as it's normally called, the pound sign.
01:43And then, you just need a hex code. So, for this, we're going to go ahead and do 00, oops,
01:49FFFF, which is aqua. And then, we're going to do the same double quotes in some place here. There we
01:58go.
01:58So, now we have some blue text that says, dungeon. That will be, um, visible to let us know where
02:07the dungeon is. So, we can always find our way back to the dungeon.
02:11How swell. Now, maybe we want something, uh, a little more specific. So, when we just place the text in
02:18this fashion, it kind of just appears in the air above us.
02:21But maybe we want it to be very specific. So, we want it to be, like, right on the surface
02:26of this node.
02:28So, we can go ahead and look at our coordinates, which in this case are negative 48, one and a
02:35half, and 124.
02:37Um, which becomes impossible to see once we pull down the chat menu, which is, you know, just great.
02:47Oh, but if we do F10, it's visible because I don't have enough chat messages. Okay, this works.
02:50So, we're going to go ahead and do text. And then, we're going to go ahead and give it the
02:54coordinates we want to spawn the text at.
02:57So, 48. Um, I'm going to do 1. I don't know if that is my foot height or if that's
03:03my head height. I'm not positive.
03:05Then, we're going to do 124. And then, we're going to, you know what? Let's, uh, let's give this some
03:10color, too.
03:11So, let's make this one yellow. So, that's going to be FFFF00. And then, we're going to call this beach.
03:18Beach. And, there we go. We now have text on the beach saying beach, which is great.
03:29Now, there is a upper limit to the amount of text, which is configurable as well.
03:33And say we were getting to that point and we needed to remove some text.
03:38Well, there's two ways to do it. We can remove it with an ID.
03:42Unfortunately, there's really no way to know what the ID is.
03:48Unless you have, like, super good memory.
03:51So, if we pull our chat log back up, we can see here text spawned with IDs.
03:57And, we have IDs up to number 8.
04:00The trouble is, we don't get to see what our message was, our command, that spawned that text.
04:08So, we don't know which text correlates to which ID.
04:11And, there, unfortunately, isn't a way to just list all of them off.
04:15I'm going to guess that this was number 6, though.
04:18So, we're going to go ahead and use the remove text chat command.
04:23And, we'll just try number 6.
04:24And, I got lucky.
04:26And, that was number 6.
04:27So, we removed the text from there.
04:29But, now, let's say we want to get rid of this behind you text.
04:34And, I don't know what the ID is to this.
04:36I do, actually. It's number 1.
04:38But, we're going to pretend we don't know what the ID is.
04:41Because, that's the point of this.
04:44So, if we go directly underneath it and look up.
04:48We can get a pretty good idea of the location that this text is at.
04:52Which is looking like negative 65 in...
04:57Yeah, negative 65.
05:00Are we thinking this is at 77?
05:04Or, is it at 78?
05:05It looks like it's at 77 and a half.
05:08I don't know how precise I need to be for this.
05:11So, we're going to go ahead and do remove text.
05:13I'm going to do this with F10 because I can see my location then.
05:17Remove text.
05:20Negative 65.
05:22Now, my current location is 5 and a half.
05:25But, I believe adds 1 and a half when you don't give it a location.
05:28It just does your own location with some additional height.
05:31So, we're going to do 7 because that's 1 and a half plus 5.5.
05:36And, then we're going to try 77.
05:40And, it says there was no text removed at that position.
05:42So, let's try 76.
05:45There was no text.
05:46Okay.
05:46So, what about 77.5?
05:50Also, no text.
05:51Okay.
05:51Great.
05:52So, is it actually supposed to be at 8?
05:56Nope.
05:56Okay.
05:57I don't know if this is going to place.
05:58Okay.
05:59There we go.
06:00I guess so.
06:01It's 2 and a half nodes above your foot position.
06:04So, let's test that out by going to another spot of text.
06:08Let's try this floating text.
06:12But, actually, let's not.
06:13Let's do it where our foot position is different.
06:16So, let's go underneath this spooky here.
06:19As best as we can.
06:21Of course, it's going to be difficult to do.
06:25But, we're going to guess.
06:29It's so hard to say.
06:31I'm going to say that's at 53 and 66.
06:36So, let's try this once more.
06:38So, this is negative 53.
06:42And, then we're adding 2 and a half.
06:44So, instead of 6, we'd be doing 9.
06:47And, then 66.
06:51Well, I guessed right.
06:53So, that's nice.
06:56Because, that means we can remove our text.
07:00And, it doesn't tell you the IDs of the text, either, when you remove it.
07:03So, now that you have even less idea of what the IDs are of any of the remaining texts.
07:10And, if it's a text that you put in by location.
07:14Well, then.
07:18Yeah.
07:19I mean, we can find what node this is.
07:20That's not too difficult.
07:22And, then we just have to guess what the elevation is.
07:25So, that we can manually remove the text that way.
07:29Depending on your version of Luanti, there is a chance that this text will just display white.
07:34If you have anything recent, the colors should work.
07:39But, there is a disclaimer.
07:42I wonder if this connects.
07:44There is a disclaimer stating that older mods may not support the colors.
07:48Hey, I connected.
07:50Cool.
07:51And, that's all.
07:52That's pretty much it.
07:53So, if you ever needed to put some, essentially, waypoint text in your world.
07:58This is an easy way to do it.
08:00I just wish there was a slightly better way of managing the text that was in world.
08:05So, you could see what was what.
08:08Get the IDs and remove it a little easier.
08:12But, for what it is, it ain't bad.
08:14If you're interested in downloading this mod.
08:16You can't find it on the content database.
08:18Just search for a text mod.
08:20Otherwise, if you want to download it the old school way.
