00:01:59The Cheetals are the live-in owners of an award-winning boutique hotel.
00:02:04It's a true saying.
00:02:05We believe in our hotel.

00:02:10So, we bought this hotel for £300,000 and we've just had it valued to round about £1.6,000,

00:02:18The hotel is my dad's baby.
00:02:20He absolutely loves this place and it's nice to say it's not just a hotel for us.

00:02:39It's got 11 bedrooms. It's got a most fantastic kitchen.
00:02:45We've got a cellar full of beautiful wines and champagnes.

00:03:08So, when Jez told me about this swap, he said maybe we'll have some quality time together

00:03:37but I don't think some people understand that it's not fully quality time.

00:03:48was slightly difficult because, you know, I've got a bit of a suntan on me
00:03:53and racism was quite rife then.

00:03:58Fifteen and a half, I went to a careers officer and she said,
00:04:03what are you going to do?
00:04:04And they gave me a list.
00:04:06And I just stopped hospitality.
00:04:07And the reason why I stopped is because they gave me accommodation.
00:04:10And, wow, I could leave home.
00:04:13So I went to work in a hotel, doing washing up and cooking breakfast.
00:04:19On to hall portering, on to restaurant waiter.
00:04:23And in the end, I ended up in London.
00:04:26Quite a success, really, considering I left with zero.
00:04:31Jez was 30 when he first met Rosie.
00:04:34It was an arranged marriage and my parents said to me,
00:04:37Rosie, that's it, we've had enough of your sort of antics.
00:04:41So it's about time you settled down and picked me up by my ear
00:04:45and took me to India to meet Rosie in New Delhi.
00:04:48My family told me that there is a person living in England
00:04:52doing a general manager's job in a hotel.
00:04:56So when they told me, I said, OK, I'll meet him.
00:05:00But what did it work out?
00:05:03She came over from India.
00:05:05She cried.
00:05:06Why did she cry?
00:05:07Because it was cold.
00:05:09It was a very big decision for me.
00:05:11So I took a few days to decide what I'm going to do with my life.
00:05:16Then, after a few days, I said yes.
00:05:20Always ambitious, in 2010, they spent a quarter of a million pounds
00:05:24and branched out on their own.
00:05:26But disaster struck.
00:05:28We actually made an investment, I thought,
00:05:31into a business that could take us places.
00:05:34We just, it didn't work.
00:05:36We lost self-confidence.
00:05:39We lost everything, really.
00:05:42I think I was about six.
00:05:44And I was like, oh, no, I don't know what we're going to do.
00:05:46But Jez and Rosie simply refused to give up.
00:05:51We come across this hotel as not making any money.
00:05:57And at that time, this is the only place we can afford.
00:06:01And we've made it into a big success, a huge success.
00:06:04It led to a lifestyle the young Jez, growing up in Coventry,
00:06:08could never have dreamed of.
00:06:10We were definitely given another chance to carry on in life.
00:06:15These days, they give back to the community
00:06:17by helping the long-term unemployed get a second chance.
00:06:22What we do is we get them jobs with accommodation.
00:06:25And some people that we've helped are still in the same job
00:06:28two or three years later.
00:06:30Nobody's perfect.
00:06:31And everybody deserves to change their lives if they want to.

00:34:10because the houses were cheaper.
00:34:12It was just unfortunate, really, the area that they were in
00:34:16became sort of high crime rate and antisocial behaviour.
00:34:20It did end up with the children getting bullied
00:34:23as soon as they'd started school.
00:34:26It's a really hard situation.
00:34:28You know, as a family,
00:34:29they have to go through with these kind of things,
00:34:32and that's terrible.
00:34:34It wasn't just the moving.
00:34:36They homeschooled the kids since COVID.
00:34:39So it was paying for tutors,
00:34:40it was paying for exams.
00:34:42Things like that as well have compounded their debt.
00:34:45But they were prepared to do that
00:34:47in order to get the children through.
00:34:49So do you think that move has put them off risk-taking,
00:34:54and would they risk anything again?
00:34:56I don't think it has put them off.
00:34:58And there's so many skills between them
00:35:00that they can bring to hopefully one day fulfilling their dream,
00:35:05which is having a theatre cafe.
00:35:10It's been a sort of a pipe dream of theirs for a lot of years

00:35:15where they can work together and as a family unit
00:35:18so that they provide opportunities for the kids as well.
