00:00And global military spending reached nearly $2.9 trillion in 2025, marking the 11th consecutive year of growth, researchers said
00:09on Monday.
00:10According to a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, spending increased by 2.9% compared with 2024,
00:18despite a reduction by the United States, which remains the world's largest military spender.
00:23However, the decline is suspected to be temporary as the U.S. Congress has approved more than $1 trillion in
00:30spending for 2026, a figure that could rise to $1.5 trillion in 2027 if President Donald Trump's budget proposal
00:36is passed.
00:37Even though the United States continues to be the single largest spender, the main driver of global growth in 2025
00:44was Europe, where military expenditures surged by 14% to reach $864 billion.
00:54The pre-recorded award with the expenditure of $2,887 billion, so just short of $2.9 trillion.
01:05That marked the 11th year through which we saw an increase.
01:09And that happened despite the major players, so the U.S., despite the U.S. recording a decrease.
01:18So in 2025, the U.S. decreases total military spending, and that's because it halted, it halted, it halted, it
01:25stopped its military financial aid to third countries, especially to Ukraine.
01:31That, though, doesn't mean that the U.S. stopped investing in its own military capabilities, it's still investing in its
01:38own conventional and nuclear armaments.
01:40And in the long term, we saw how there are pledges to spend up to $1.5 trillion U.S.
01:47dollars in the coming years.
