00:04So, I got a call from a potential new client couple, Naima and Edo, and they have an immediate
00:13need to either find a way for their house to work or move on. Do they have any kids? They
00:18do, yes,
00:19they have kids. There's nothing worse than when you feel your home doesn't work for you and your
00:24family, and you're desperate for change. I could tell from the message that there's more to the story.
00:30Whatever is going on sounds pretty serious.
01:21This reminds me of Aunt Margo's neighborhood.
01:23Oh, yeah.
01:24Cute old 60s homes.
01:25But family homes need a little new life breathed into them.
01:28Yeah.
01:32How are you?
01:32Hey, Eddo.
01:33Yeah, yeah, nice to see you.
01:35Hey, good to see you.
01:35Good to see you.
01:36I'm a hugger.
01:37I can't help it.
01:37Hey, come on, get in.
01:38I'm feeling a little left out.
01:40Come on in.
01:43First of all, love the view out here.
01:45So what- Thank you.
01:46This is, is it just houses down here?
01:49So there's stairs on the left-hand side, our left,
01:51and you go down those stairs,
01:52and there's what we call a rumpus room,
01:54or like a man cave back in the day.
01:57Oh, so that's your property down below?
01:58That's our property down below.
01:59Oh, OK.
02:00Yep, you go down another 15 stairs,
02:01and it's a shuffleboard court.
02:02Oh, wow.
02:03So we have a basketball hoop down there.
02:04It sounds like you have something down there
02:06that could be considered an ADU.
02:08Yes.
02:08This is your family home, right?
02:10You inherited?
02:10Yes, yes.
02:11So my grandmother, my grandparents moved in in 1963.
02:14So my mom and my aunt grew up here in this house.
02:17And so when I got pregnant with our daughter,
02:19my grandmother said, I want to pass the house on to you guys,
02:22just because it's impossible to buy, not impossible,
02:24but it's really hard to buy a house here in LA.
02:26How old are the kids now?
02:27Well, our daughter will be 10 in two weeks,
02:29and our son is seven.
02:30That's what actually kind of inspired us to throw her name
02:33in the hat for this process, because our daughter, every day,
02:36Mom, we need more space.
02:37Mom, we need more space.
02:38Our kids share a room right now, and you could imagine,
02:41obviously, having a girl and a boy sharing a room.
02:44Surprise!
02:45It is a nightmare every single day.
02:48A pre-teen girl sharing her room with her little annoying brother.
02:52Exactly.
02:52I appreciate the thing.
02:53That's a story.
02:53Our daughter wants peace.
02:55She wants to sit in her bunk bed and read books,
02:57and our son is walking around, shirt off,
02:59like he's a wrestler, and wanting to jump on her all the time.
03:02Wait, is your son and my son the same person?
03:04No, he is.
03:06What's the catalyst right now for taking this on?
03:09Why all of a sudden?
03:10Mm-hmm.
03:10The kids.
03:11Yeah.
03:12I think, well, also, let me say, the kids and their ages,
03:15and we all kind of pointed out their different personalities.
03:17Bursting at the seams.
03:18Bursting at the seams.
03:19But also, I don't grew up entertaining,
03:21having a lot of people over all the time.
03:23We feel like we don't have enough space
03:24to really have the kind of gatherings
03:25that we really want to have.
03:26I will say I am going through breast cancer treatments
03:29right now.
03:30So I am in chemotherapy.
03:33So we embarked upon this process reaching out
03:36to the Property Brothers several months ago.
03:38And during that process of applying for the show,
03:41I learned that I was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer.
03:44For me, it was important to still move forward in this process,
03:48even though I'm going through chemotherapy right now.
03:51Because for us, I think this process of thinking about the house,
03:55thinking about our next chapter,
03:57thinking about potential renovation,
03:58it's been a bright spot for me.
04:00But also, the kids have been asking for, begging for,
04:03fighting for a room for months.
04:05And the idea of being able to surprise the kids
04:08is the gift that I want to give them.
04:09I know they're worried about me.
04:10And I know that they're always kind of watching,
04:13like, you know, how's mommy going to feel today?
04:15I just want to also show the kids
04:17that we can do hard things together.
04:19Now, is this a brave face, or is this who she is?
04:26It's a brave face.
04:29And who she is.
04:33Both.
04:33Are you crying?
04:35You're going to be crying.
04:37Naima, you're a superhero.
04:39Like, what?
04:39You're like, you can't just be like, let's take care of this,
04:42and then we'll house on.
04:42You're like, I can handle all this at one time.
04:44So, yeah, I think we're here for you however you need to use us.
04:48We're definitely interested in looking at other homes,
04:49just to kind of see what's out there, what's possible.
04:52I'm also just kind of worried about the process of, like, a renovation.
04:57Looking for a new home hopefully kind of cuts down that renovation stress.
05:00We can look at other houses, but Jonathan and I always like to show people
05:03what their house could become before you just think about
05:06packing your bags and leaving.
05:07I'd like to actually see the space.
05:09Yes, let's see.
05:09Starting in the living room.
05:10Is there anything you wanted to get rid of or ways of changing the flow in here?
05:15I've always imagined what it would look like opened up.
05:17Like, for example, the fireplace.
05:19Yeah.
05:19We never use it.
05:20It's not working.
05:21I mean, I do agree.
05:22This blocks everything over here.
05:24Yeah.
05:24It is a big job to get rid of a chimney.
05:26You have to go all the way up through the roof and deal with that.
05:29Now I'm getting torn, right, because when I did come here as a kid,
05:31I have pictures of me, like, you know, roasting marshmallows and,
05:36you know, using the fireplace, but honestly, we have never used it once.
05:43Because of this view, I'm thinking about, like, can we go out this way?
05:48Because right now, if I had to make drinks, I had to go up through the side door,
05:52all the way around.
05:53Yeah, yeah.
05:53No, that's a no-brainer.
05:54And these windows are old, single-pane, original windows.
05:56Yeah, they are.
05:57They're all original.
05:59This is our dining room area.
06:02Go ahead and open the door.
06:04Oh, wow.
06:06That's not a good flow.
06:07Yeah.
06:07Did you ever just think about getting rid of the door?
06:09We've thought about it, yes.
06:11We're just, like, used to it, so it's one of those things that,
06:13oh, I would love to change it, but then you just kind of,
06:16because it's a running joke.
06:17I can see how this does not work very well.
06:19Yeah.
06:20We were thinking about, like, what do we do with this space?
06:21It's narrow.
06:22You know, the only counter space we have is that little counter space right there.
06:27This was on the part of the house that we just kind of, like, got overwhelmed
06:30and we just stopped.
06:31There's a way that we could renovate, open up a little bit,
06:34make this a nicer kitchen, better flow,
06:36but then there's also a way to do it where we completely move things around.
06:39How much money do you have to spend on a renovation?
06:42We have about $220,000.
06:44Is there space, because you said you only have two bedrooms,
06:47is there space somewhere that you think you could put a third bedroom?
06:49It's a good question.
06:54This is our den space.
06:56This is where we go when we want to just, like, relax, sit on the couch, watch TV.
07:00Okay, but in reality, then, this is a three-bedroom home.
07:03I never thought about it like that, that this could be another bedroom.
07:06I think we've always kind of seen it as a den space.
07:08I mean, Jonathan and I actually shared a room for many, many years,
07:11and I can remember how annoying he was as a roommate.
07:13So I can only imagine bunk beds.
07:15Yeah.
07:15But for a boy and a girl to be sharing a room together,
07:18and your daughter's almost a teenager,
07:19I mean, obviously she needs her own bedroom.
07:21I do want to see the outdoor space.
07:23Okay, let's do it.
07:27This is a good-sized yard, though. I like this.
07:32I want to make sure that we're looking at all options.
07:35Yes.
07:36I think it would be good for us to show you some other houses
07:38that we think would fit the bill.
07:40Yes.
07:40Whether you look for other houses, but especially taking on a renovation,
07:44it would be a lot.
07:45Are you absolutely sure you want to do this right now?
07:48If you're going through treatment...
07:50I'm sure.
07:51Going through this, it's tough.
07:53It's been tough on the kids.
07:54I think me going through this journey and coming out on the other side,
07:57I think it's going to be a really big deal for us.
07:58I can tell there's some reservations hidden under the surface.
08:01There is some hidden anxiety, because it's, um...
08:04Not so hidden.
08:06That, you know, Naima's undergoing treatment, and I do worry about her.
08:09So I am a little nervous, but I think having the expertise in hand
08:14and taking it out of our hands will just put me at ease
08:17and I'll be able to sleep better.
08:18Our whole goal is to take the stress off your plate
08:21as much as we possibly can.
08:22Obviously, there are decisions you need to make.
08:24Do you know roughly what the value of your house would be
08:25if you were selling it today?
08:26I think it's a little over a million.
08:29Okay.
08:29And then if you're looking at a new house, what could you spend?
08:33I think up to 1.6.
08:351.6.
08:36We're going to make sure we find not only the right space
08:37for all of you, including the kids,
08:40but whether it's in a new house or this one,
08:42we're going to make sure it's right.
08:43I think it was inevitable that at some point
08:45we would outgrow this space.
08:47Now we're here 10 years later, and what do we do next?
08:50The idea of moving, I think, is appealing because
08:52we don't have to just go through the renovation process.
08:55At the same time, we have sentimental value.
08:58We have an attachment to this house as well.
09:00Honestly, I think we're a little torn.
09:03Naeem is going through cancer treatment.
09:05They have the stress of looking to potentially move
09:08and renovate.
09:09Like, this is a lot.
09:10I almost would suggest let's just put a few more bucks into it
09:14and find a place that's already renovated
09:15and just move into something that works.
09:17Then there's no headache, no mess,
09:19no long delay of having to wait for renovation.
09:21You just move in.
09:23This house is understandably not working for them
09:27because there's just no room.
09:28They have two kids.
09:29They want to have separate bedrooms.
09:30The den could be a second bedroom.
09:32Ultimately, they would have the best solution
09:35if we found another house that gave them everything
09:37that they wanted and maybe a little extra.
09:39This house, it's tight.
09:41It could work, but it's going to be stressful.
09:54Okay, I wanted to show you this gorgeous Spanish-style home.
09:58Oh, I love this.
10:02Not only does it have three bedrooms already.
10:05Okay.
10:05We definitely need three bedrooms.
10:07Three bedrooms is every three.
10:08It has more square footage than you're used to,
10:09so it's 1,832 square feet, two bathrooms,
10:12and its very own cathedral, but we'll get to that.
10:15Okay.
10:15Okay.
10:16How much do you know about this area?
10:18So, I love this neighborhood.
10:19I grew up maybe five minutes away down Crescent Heights.
10:22And I know for a fact this is close to your work.
10:24Yes, I can actually walk to work, which is amazing.
10:27My goal would be to get the price down.
10:29It has been listed for a little while.
10:31They're still listed in the high 1.6 range.
10:35I'm pretty confident that we could get this down to around 1.5,
10:39maybe 1.53, something like that.
10:41Okay.
10:41And that would leave enough room for a renovation.
10:44But let me show you inside.
10:45Okay.
10:47Okay.
10:49Wow.
10:49Okay.
10:52I like it, actually.
10:54I like that it opens out into like a really big living room space.
10:58I could definitely see, you know, hosting friends and family, kids.
11:02I always love when the first room is impressive.
11:06There are two outdoor spaces here.
11:08Okay.
11:08This is a separate courtyard from the backyard.
11:10But I love, it's fully self-contained.
11:13There's a little outdoor fireplace.
11:15How cool would this be?
11:16It could be an area for the kids.
11:17Very private.
11:18Yes.
11:21Now, you step up here.
11:23Okay.
11:24Yeah.
11:24This is weird.
11:25Yep.
11:25It's low.
11:27We could just get, we could take that right off.
11:29This is a fake arch.
11:30Okay.
11:30But it is interesting that we are kind of, you know, stepping up.
11:33Just to step up.
11:33To what would be possibly a dining room.
11:35I do like the fact that you have another nice spacious room right off of this main area
11:39as well.
11:40I agree.
11:43How do you feel about hot air ballooning?
11:45Oh.
11:46Oh.
11:46We're going to the World's Fair in 1932.
11:49Yeah.
11:50This is quite a kitchen.
11:53Is that the bathroom?
11:54Power room.
11:55This little, okay.
11:55Don't worry.
11:56As a part of the reconfiguration, I'd want to put in a walk-in pantry and then shift the
12:01powder room forward so you have it more centrally located.
12:04If, by chance, as you're cooking, you stub your toe and you swear and you need to say a couple
12:11of Hail Marys, you have your own cathedral.
12:15Wow.
12:17Okay.
12:18Monastery of Los Angeles is here.
12:20It does look.
12:21Wow.
12:22Monastery-like.
12:23We don't want to miss our blessings, but wow.
12:25I did not expect that.
12:26You'd mentioned it and I just didn't realize it was going to be so accurate.
12:29Yeah.
12:30Straight out of the book of renovations.
12:32Yeah.
12:33Straight out of the book of renovations.
12:35Right in credit.
12:37Ta-da.
12:38You could take this wall, return it into the kitchen and keep that totally open and open
12:43this at the front.
12:43You don't need to have that mini little arch there.
12:46This has three bedrooms.
12:49Good size bedroom, which is nice because it already has three.
12:53And then one courtyard here.
12:55Got it.
12:56And then one big backyard here.
13:00Pretty private yard.
13:02Yes.
13:04Fully sealed in, direct access to the side street.
13:07I did not expect so much space.
13:09And I can see the kind of possibilities of what you can do back here.
13:12I think it would actually go for somewhere in the 1.5s.
13:15We would need it down because obviously your max budget is 1.6.
13:19Yeah.
13:19But the goal would be get it down just enough that we can redo that kitchen, redo that connectivity between
13:25the main floors.
13:26Just thinking through what you guys need, the number of bedrooms, the extra space, that is why I showed you
13:31this.
13:31Yeah, it's a great option.
13:32Drew's going to show you something else as well.
13:34Okay.
13:34He'll have his take on what he thinks that would be for you guys.
13:36But I think this would be a really, really great option for you.
13:39No, I agree.
13:40I'd love to take a little bit more look around, but I love.
13:43Do it.
13:43Check it out.
13:44I'll be in my ballet studio.
13:45Okay.
13:47Don't tear your hamstring.
13:48Too late.
13:49Ah!
13:50So how do you think that went?
13:52I think it was actually pretty good.
13:54They would have a beautiful house in a great area.
13:56The kids having their own bedrooms plus that bonus space.
14:00This is a really, really good sized house.
14:01They're not trying to squeeze more bedrooms into a home that can't really accommodate it.
14:05This house, it's easy.
14:06It's done.
14:07It's already there.
14:08I think what I do like about this house is that there's plenty of room for entertaining and thinking about,
14:13like, our family being here.
14:14Definitely concerned about being on such a busy street that's busy all the time.
14:18I was born and raised maybe five or ten minutes south from this area, so it kind of brought back
14:24the feelings of being close to a main thoroughfare, you know, being an L.A. native.
14:29The architecture of the home hit me as soon as we walked in.
14:31I'm definitely curious on Drew's choice.
14:34I mean, if you could top Jonathan in this, we'll be surprised, but really interested to see what, you know,
14:39he has in store for us.
14:54You can show them this place, but I don't know if they're going to like it.
14:57The one I showed them, they were, especially Edo, were all over it.
15:00Yeah, but that needed work.
15:01Hey, guys.
15:02Good to see you.
15:02Good to see you.
15:03How are you?
15:04Good.
15:04We've been having a little brotherly competition.
15:07Okay.
15:07I know he showed you a house that you thought was great.
15:10Needed some work, Edo.
15:10I know you were all over it, but come on.
15:12I like this house.
15:14It's close to our current house, so we know the neighborhood pretty well.
15:17There's a school right down the street.
15:19This house was built in the 50s, but it's renovated, so I think you'll like some of the improvements they've
15:23done.
15:23Four bedrooms, two bathrooms.
15:25It's listed at $1.399 million, basically $1.4 million.
15:29I think it's a little underpriced.
15:31Okay.
15:31Should we get inside?
15:32Yes.
15:36Wow.
15:41Wow.
15:42I really like this island.
15:43It's huge.
15:45And like you said, there's so many things they've already done.
15:47Yeah.
15:47And so it's a bit of like turnkey.
15:49You'll notice no giant fireplace in the middle of the room.
15:53The fireplace is tucked over to the side where it should be.
15:56Wow.
15:57That's how people do, you know.
16:01This makes it feel bigger when you have two of the big areas connected.
16:03Three of the areas connected.
16:05Yeah.
16:05It just feels like a much bigger space.
16:08I love how it just, you know, kind of goes out into the backyard.
16:10Again, it also kind of feels like an extension.
16:12Access directly to the backyard from your living room?
16:15I knew it!
16:17It's definitely something that I love.
16:19It's just, it's nice to have a flow like this.
16:22If you're in the living room, you can see people in the dining, the kitchen or outside.
16:26And I do like that the house has split.
16:28You have on this side, one of the spare bedrooms, which could be an office or a guest room.
16:32And then your bedroom.
16:33Your main bathroom right here.
16:35On this side, you actually have the kids' rooms.
16:41A shared Jack and Jill as well.
16:44It's nice that you have the extra bathroom in here for the kids.
16:46They can make a mess of this.
16:48Keeps yours clean.
16:49Exactly.
16:49Yeah.
16:50At this point.
16:51Yes.
16:52You have the house Jonathan showed you, your original house and this house.
16:56Which are you leaning towards?
16:57I just kind of want to know.
16:59You're losing right now.
17:00What?
17:01I'm losing.
17:01I feel like you're winning.
17:02Okay, hold on, hold on.
17:03You answered too quickly.
17:04I was like...
17:05Okay.
17:05I like this house.
17:06I like that it's, like I said, more of a neighborhood feel.
17:08I like that it's very open.
17:09Can I show you the backyard?
17:10Yes, exactly.
17:11You guys can wait here.
17:13Yeah.
17:17It's a good sized yard.
17:19Yeah.
17:19Yeah.
17:20Usable for the kids.
17:21Yeah.
17:21What I like about it is that it feels very similar to what we have at home.
17:26But it's just to say that we don't, they don't have the same downstairs that we have.
17:29There's definitely potential in this space.
17:31This house is listed at basically 1.4.
17:33You have the money to renovate as well with this house, even though they've done a lot of work.
17:37But the kitchen is gorgeous.
17:38The layout of the home is pretty great.
17:40And I would add a beautiful big deck.
17:41You can take a deck all the way out to here.
17:43And it doesn't take away any of the grass, but at least it gives you a whole other entertaining space.
17:47That's a great idea.
17:47Yeah.
17:48You know, the idea of moving into a home that's like, you know, turnkey and requires a little less work.
17:52Why don't we do this?
17:53Why don't you take another look around before you make any decisions and then we'll hang back here.
17:56Let's take a look.
17:57All right.
17:57See you a little bit.
18:00It is a nice place.
18:01They've done a great job with the landscaping.
18:02It's not an expensive renovation.
18:04It looks the same as their house.
18:06Yeah.
18:07Like the size of the lot.
18:08I love that you can see the backyard.
18:10It's perfect.
18:11I can definitely see the kids playing back there.
18:12She's going through chemo right now.
18:14They don't need to do a massive renovation.
18:16This house they can actually very, very comfortably move into.
18:19It's clean.
18:19The bathrooms are renovated.
18:21And they do like the area.
18:22And they do like the area.
18:23I don't know.
18:23I think that there's opportunity here, but it just depends what they want to tackle.
18:35So what do you think?
18:36The kitchen is the main attraction of this whole entire house.
18:38Yeah.
18:38I think for the footprint, it's not that bad.
18:41I mean, you have four compact to pint-sized rooms.
18:44Yeah.
18:44There are less things that would change about this place.
18:47What about the backyard?
18:48We get so much more space in our backyard, right?
18:51We have like an ADU and, you know, more space downstairs.
18:55Thinking about renovating or staying put versus, you know, moving somewhere else.
19:00You know, it's a lot to consider.
19:02Coming into this space today just reminded you that, you know, you can have a large kitchen.
19:07You can have all this new functionality that we don't have, you know, in our current space.
19:13I think that they did some great upgrades, but they were the basic upgrades.
19:16At our home now, we have, you know, our backyard with an amazing view.
19:22We have something great.
19:23We have something great at home.
19:25How's it going?
19:26Hey, guys.
19:27Hey.
19:28Just the deliberation, just taking it all in.
19:31Yeah.
19:31So looking at this house, it helped you?
19:33It did.
19:34I think there's a lot of similarities with this house to our house.
19:37It's not exactly the same, but I think it kind of allowed us to envision the possibilities.
19:41But to be honest, I think we love our home.
19:44I think, I think, I think we definitely see a lot of potential here.
19:48And I also think we have a lot of great things at our house that we're not really ready to
19:52give up yet.
19:53The whole point of looking at houses is to get you to consider everything.
19:57And now that you're more educated on the whole process, what your needs are, you've figured out what you want,
20:01you're making the right decision because it sounds like your home is the right decision.
20:04Yeah, I think so.
20:05What do you think?
20:06Yeah.
20:07I think we should stay.
20:08I think when we were first embarking upon this whole process, I was ready to move out.
20:12I was ready to like, you know, do something new.
20:14And now kind of seeing different spaces, it reminds me of the gem we have at our own home.
20:20I feel good.
20:21So for me, getting started right away means that by Christmas, we could have like our family over, our friends
20:28over.
20:28I'm excited about being able to give our kids something special, you know, for the holidays.
20:33We do have a tight timeline, but we're hopeful to see some magic.
20:37Yeah.
20:46Hello.
20:47What's up, guys?
20:48Welcome to Casa Warehouse Scott.
20:52Glad you're here because we need to sort of kick things off and move fairly quickly, but we need to
20:57know what your style is.
20:59This is where I struggle.
21:00Yeah.
21:00I mean, spiritually, we think we're cool.
21:02We're LA people.
21:03Yeah.
21:03Want something hip and chic, but also intimate to kind of meet our needs in the space that we have.
21:09If you want to make a statement when people walk into your house, that's what we need to know.
21:13The benefit of going through this process is that we trust you.
21:16When you look at this, just because this is very neutral, the wallpaper here.
21:20But when you look at this grass cloth, that's just a bit more texture, still neutral.
21:24And then you look at these two bold patterns.
21:26What jumps out to you?
21:27Good?
21:27Bad?
21:28What do you think?
21:29How are you feeling?
21:31Really?
21:32You really want to make a statement.
21:34This is courageous.
21:35I mean, for me, because I'm so simple.
21:37I actually like this better.
21:41I mean, just this, like, combination, again, because it's a little bit lighter.
21:44Yeah, what we can do then is we can take that color you're saying that you really want to be
21:47bold with,
21:48and we can find ways in our art, our throws, our pillows.
21:51This is bold for us.
21:53This is what we'll do.
21:54Okay, Jonathan, you guys are here.
21:56We're here.
21:57Oh, all right.
21:58Oh, okay.
21:58Whoever wins between the two of you gets to pick.
22:01And go.
22:02Three, two, one, go.
22:02Oh!
22:04Yeah.
22:04Yeah.
22:05Now that we've got Naima and Edo's design style in mind, we're going to transform the
22:09den into Evan's room with bold colors, a big boy bed, and a desk for homework and crafts.
22:15Ella's room will get a pre-teen dream makeover with soft pastels, a new bed and desk, and whimsical
22:22accents.
22:23In the living room, a new entertainment unit will anchor new chic furnishings that play off
22:28their preferred palette of greens and blues.
22:29The fireplace stays to keep things budget-friendly, and we're knocking down the walls between
22:35the dining room and kitchen to open the space up for smoother sight lines and a whole lot
22:39more flow.
22:40Out with the old kitchen and in with a fresh and fun space that'll make cooking and hosting
22:45feel effortless.
23:12We have company.
23:14What's that?
23:15We have company.
23:16Hi.
23:17Hello.
23:18What in the world?
23:19How are you?
23:20Come on, dude.
23:20See you, buddy?
23:21All right.
23:21Wow.
23:22This feels like a complete, I mean like, I am blown away.
23:26You know how you're used to a space, and you've walked into a space a million times, and you're
23:30just so conditioned to think about a space a particular way?
23:33Well, we need different things out of spaces today than we did, you know, back when this
23:38house was built, so I'm excited to breathe new life into this house because I think you
23:44will just experience how much more fun it is to spend time together as a family if you
23:50have this open and connected.
23:51I agree.
23:53Watch your step.
23:54We have two big, costly decisions to make.
23:58Okay.
23:59One of them being this.
24:02I suggested that we swap the doors.
24:05You guys were waffling a little bit as to whether or not that's where you want to allocate.
24:08I really, really think that's something we should try and do.
24:10They'll not only be double pane glass, this is all single pane.
24:14So this is just letting everything through.
24:15So we could go fully custom, and we could even do like bifold doors and everything, but
24:19you can literally get into like 20K, you know, to do a lot of that sort of stuff.
24:23If we go with a slider, the cost is a lot lower, but you still get all the light and
24:28you still get all the access.
24:29This is something I think has to happen.
24:31Yeah, I agree.
24:32They also have an argon filled gas in between, so that's better for the efficiency.
24:36UV block.
24:38So you're not going to have the same effect on your floors.
24:40The other thing is your floors.
24:43So you've probably noticed that your floors have bleached out in areas.
24:48This is all matte right here, and this is all really glossy.
24:53You at some point bought a product that you just kind of roll on or mop on.
24:58Yeah.
24:58Yeah.
24:59But you didn't remove your rug when you did it, so.
25:01Yeah.
25:03A lot.
25:04Side.
25:06So, always take the soft goods away.
25:08But anyway, it's going to be a little unfortunate if you have all this new beautiful stuff done here,
25:14and then your floors still have these bleached out lines.
25:17Basically anywhere where you had a rug or a piece of furniture, you can see a noticeable line and change
25:21in color.
25:22Damn.
25:22Wow. I didn't realize it was so drastic.
25:24I didn't realize that it happens with the product.
25:26What do you think about going to a nice mid-tone like that as opposed to really dark?
25:31I do like a mid-tone.
25:32Yeah?
25:33How do we take care of it so we don't end up in the same position?
25:37The UV from the sun is the roughest on it.
25:39So if you have sun protection outside, I think that's going to go a long way.
25:44The darker the floors, the more dirt and dust and debris and scratches that it shows.
25:48Wow.
25:48The higher gloss you go on your finish, the easier it is to see scratches.
25:52We'll do a real nice diamond coat finish so it's real good for high traffic.
25:56You shouldn't have to really do anything to the floors for years and years.
26:00Okay.
26:01Do me a favor, shake it off.
26:03I'm giving you so much information, I know it's a total pain.
26:07I'm like ready, I'm like, okay.
26:08Get the heck out of here.
26:09Okay.
26:10All right.
26:21Hello?
26:22Hi, name is Jonathan.
26:24Hi, Jonathan, how are you?
26:25I'm good, I got your message.
26:27Oh, good.
26:28Everything good?
26:29Let me patch in Edo, hold on real quick.
26:32Okay.
26:33Okay, Jonathan.
26:35Edo.
26:35Making me nervous here when I'm like, oh, we got to get everybody on the phone.
26:40What's going on?
26:42When we saw the house, it just kind of hit.
26:48It just felt like we were losing space.
26:54I guess our main kind of sticking point is like the fireplace.
26:57And honestly, what do you think?
26:58Because it does take up a substantial amount of the room.
27:02I mean, from day one, I've said I would love for that fireplace to go.
27:05Could get an estimate of how much it would be to remove the fireplace.
27:08I would believe to know.
27:09I priced it out with construction and the price was $8,800.
27:14If that's something that you guys are like, yes, we want to do that, then I'd have to get on
27:19the horn right away and get the engineer over there like tomorrow and see if we can do it.
27:22And I think we can.
27:24It's just a lot of money.
27:27I think we should do it.
27:28Ready to go?
27:28Yeah, I think we should do it.
27:29It's been like gnawing at us for a while about fireplace versus no fireplace.
27:33I think we've made a decision.
27:35Let's do it.
27:36Fireplace recon.
27:37Okay.
27:37Okay.
27:38Sounds good.
28:06All right.
28:07Who's ready?
28:08Give me some low tens, some high tens.
28:11There we go.
28:13So, this is a part of the process.
28:15I told you we want to de-stress you as we're doing this renovation.
28:17Today, Jonathan is dealing with house stuff and I get you over here.
28:20Oh.
28:21Yay.
28:22We get the fun one.
28:23You get the fun, brother.
28:25You know what?
28:26I knew I loved Ella.
28:27Yeah.
28:28Okay.
28:29So, here's my question.
28:30Who's the fastest?
28:31Me.
28:32Me.
28:32You all think you're the fastest?
28:34Okay.
28:35What does the winner get?
28:35What does the winner get?
28:37A hundred dollars.
28:38The winner gets a hundred dollars?
28:39A hundred dollars?
28:40All right, good.
28:40Ella's paying.
28:41Let's get in there.
28:42All right.
28:44I'm going orange.
28:47Yeah.
28:47This is the trick when you're my height, getting in.
28:51Bye-bye.
28:53Three, two, one.
28:56Woo!
28:57Woo!
29:02Woo!
29:03Woo!
29:05Woo!
29:05Woo!
29:05Woo!
29:05Woo!
29:05Woo!
29:07Woo!
29:07Woo!
29:08Here it goes!
29:10Bye-bye!
29:12Let's get him!
29:21Woo!
29:27Woo!
29:28Buy-ah!
29:28Hey, mom, baby!
29:29Did I end up in last place?
29:31That's Ella.
29:32Ella's the winner!
29:33Woo, woo.
29:34Woo!
29:34Ella!
29:35I blame the card!
29:36This is something wrong!
29:37Woo!
29:39I never lose!
29:40connected me!
29:41How dare you?
29:41You sold my record.
29:43By the way, the winner gets...
29:45Oh, my God.
29:46You get your prize money.
29:48That money has to go towards the renovation, so...
29:51I was going to say, I was like, we need it.
29:53So there's some ice cream coming.
29:54You have the track for another half hour, all on you,
29:56so I'll say goodbye.
29:58Nicely done.
29:59Thank you so much.
30:00Thank you, sir.
30:00I'll see you guys sometime soon, and keep practicing.
30:03Keep practicing.
30:05Bye, guys.
30:06Bye.
30:07I actually can't believe I lost.
30:10I never lose.
30:10Maybe I need to have Jonathan there to have someone to beat.
30:13This is fun.
30:13This is what it's all about.
30:14I mean, you just want to see them laughing a little bit.
30:16I want to see them having fun,
30:17forgetting about any of the stresses in their life.
30:24Just want to get a little bit on how are things going over here.
30:27What's going on?
30:27What's next, Dex?
30:29Uh, well...
30:30I mean, I love the fact that the fireplace is gone.
30:33This just changes the whole footprint of the space.
30:36We've added a whole room.
30:37Look at the size of the footprint from that old fireplace.
30:40I feel like, obviously, it was a huge expense, nine grand.
30:44Mm-hmm.
30:45Very well spent.
30:46This is a complete game changer for this room.
30:49Remember, we were having the issue trying to figure out how our wallpaper was going to terminate.
30:54We were going to have to pull the wallpaper all the way across.
30:57Oh, speaking of wallpaper, they want to change the wallpaper.
31:00What?
31:01Yeah, they want to change the print.
31:02It was a little too wild for them.
31:03The bold paper with the birds.
31:05Their whole thing, when we started talking about design, was that they feel that they want to do something interesting.
31:11That color, it was so vivid.
31:13It was going to be perfect for this space to add a little interest.
31:16Otherwise, white ceilings, white walls.
31:19I am pretty bummed that they want to get rid of that wallpaper we chose.
31:24The rug I was putting in here literally would have perfectly paired with that wallpaper.
31:29Maybe they'll change their mind, or maybe we can find something else that's halfway between.
31:47How do you feel that design decisions are coming in from Naima and Edo?
31:51It's definitely been quick to get responses, but then also quick to get second-guessing.
31:58Oh, hey. Hello.
31:59Hey.
32:00What's happening? How are you?
32:03Literally just saying how you guys are quick to respond, but are you second-guessing more?
32:08The majority of the house is pretty much, you know, covered.
32:10I wanted to see if there's something that we could do for our bedroom.
32:14Oh, okay.
32:16It's been a pretty, you know, rough journey for the past, you know, three months.
32:20First, we started this process, Naima got cancer, her grandmother passed away,
32:25and then recently we just got news that she had to do an additional round of treatments.
32:30Oh, no.
32:30And I just wanted to have something that was nice, comfortable for her.
32:35We can do something that I think will go a long way for her to recover will be great.
32:39I love this, the idea of doing the room.
32:41This whole project in itself is the beginning of a new chapter for us.
32:44Yeah.
32:45And this room is the icing on the cake.
32:47Yeah, I love it.
32:48Naima was the one that quarterbacked us into this process.
32:51I heard that you said no initially when she's talked about reaching out for the show.
32:55And you were like...
32:55I wanted Chip and Joanne and not Wayne.
32:57You son of a .
33:00Pack everything up.
33:02We're ripping it all back out.
33:05I was working on that for a while.
33:07Trust you 100%.
33:08I'll walk out with you.
33:09All right.
33:09All right.
33:10Thanks, dude.
33:10I appreciate that.
33:29Why are you just sitting there while I'm doing all the work?
33:31I only have one roller.
33:43I don't think we ever thought we would grow out of this home only because it feels like such a
33:47wonderful space to be in.
33:49When I was eight months pregnant, my grandmother graciously allowed us to move into this home because she saw that
33:55we were starting our family.
33:56Our kids are growing and it is a blessing to live in a house that has been my wife's family
34:02for almost three generations.
34:04And I think this pivot and working with Jonathan and Drew kind of set the foundation for our kids when
34:09they inherit the house and they start their families.
34:12And we're just grateful.
34:27I feel the hope come closer now.
34:35I see the sun on the horizon and I'm feeling all right.
34:40It is crazy how long the family lived here and they didn't have access to this back patio.
34:45I know.
34:46Change like this will impact every day.
34:49Every day.
34:49And this is amazing.
34:50They will use this every single day and especially with how clean those windows are.
34:54They're really going to use it.
34:55I am.
34:56Things are looking up now.
34:59Just when we thought they'd never.
35:04Things are getting better.
35:07I'm so glad Naima decided that she was okay going with a bold wallpaper because that looks so amazing.
35:13And we've added a thousand square feet by just getting rid of that fireplace.
35:16I know, right?
35:24How's the waiting?
35:24We're excited.
35:26I think we're nervous.
35:27I think we're.
35:27I'm excited about the kitchen.
35:29I'm excited about the kids rooms, the living room.
35:33I'm excited about the.
35:34All right.
35:35Oh, what?
35:36Oh.
35:36The moment has come.
35:38Wait, how long have you been out here?
35:40Forever and ever and ever.
35:42Obviously this has been a bit of a stressful process.
35:45Yes.
35:45A lot.
35:45How do you feel at this very moment knowing that it is done?
35:49We know you guys do great work.
35:51So it's nervous but it's also like we know we're in good hands.
35:53Yeah.
35:53I'm glad we were able to take a bit of stress off your shoulders and we're just happy to get
35:56you into your home so you can relax and enjoy.
35:59If you're ready.
36:00Let's do it.
36:02All right.
36:05Wow.
36:07Wow.
36:19Wow.
36:20Wow.
36:21Wow.
36:22Oh.
36:23This is a game changer.
36:25Wow.
36:28This looks like a completely different space.
36:36The layout, the feeling of it.
36:38I mean it's like so much more open.
36:40What do you think is causing it to feel so much more open?
36:43Hmm.
36:44I was like.
36:45Hmm.
36:46There's no fireplace.
36:48Gone.
36:48It was huge.
36:49I mean it was like.
36:50Money well spent.
36:51I love how open it feels and then going directly out into the.
36:57Right.
36:57Oh my gosh.
36:58Guys.
36:58You can open these doors and walk straight out to your yard.
37:02How am I.
37:03I'm outside.
37:04I mean we just.
37:05Yeah.
37:06This is.
37:06Before we go all the way through the kitchen.
37:08I mean just.
37:08But the idea that this now becomes kind of like a open space.
37:12Yeah.
37:12This is amazing.
37:13I appreciate the intimacy of the space.
37:15And the functionality.
37:15It really feels like this space here just feels cozy.
37:19Yeah.
37:20Oh.
37:21This space.
37:22Wow.
37:23This is amazing.
37:24Oh.
37:25This is amazing.
37:27Like the fact that we could like.
37:29Have dinner as a family.
37:30There's no wall.
37:34Remember when we had to like.
37:35The door.
37:36And it hit the other door.
37:37Yeah.
37:37And then we had to.
37:38Two doors collide.
37:39Gone.
37:39Two doors collide.
37:40And we had to kind of push each other.
37:41It was a whole thing.
37:43We have an island babe.
37:45The infamous Property Brothers Island.
37:47Let me clarify.
37:48You have a peninsula.
37:50Peninsula.
37:51But I love the color scheme.
37:52Yeah.
37:53And the tile.
37:54I love the greens.
37:55The brown.
37:55Like I just feel.
37:55It's very relaxing.
38:03Tons and tons of drawers and storage.
38:06Sure babe.
38:08I know we shouldn't get excited about that.
38:09But it's one thing we weren't able to touch.
38:11When we moved in.
38:13I'm really excited about this.
38:14All my dreams are coming true right now.
38:17This is crazy.
38:18I mean.
38:19I can't believe we live here.
38:20I know.
38:21I feel like we're going to somebody else's house.
38:23I do feel like that.
38:23When you look at the transformation in the living room.
38:26Transformation in the dining room.
38:27Transformation in the kitchen.
38:28These are all things that are going to impact.
38:30How pleasant it is to spend time in this space.
38:33Yeah.
38:33But there were also some things that weren't just for you.
38:36They were for the kids.
38:37Right.
38:37The kids sharing a bedroom was not working.
38:39It was not working.
38:40And so I think the most incredible transformation.
38:43Is giving Evan his very own bedroom.
38:52Wow.
38:53Oh my gosh.
38:54This is amazing.
38:57This is our little guy.
39:03A desk that sit down.
39:05His own little desk.
39:06He did homework.
39:07For his homework.
39:08Yeah.
39:08I just.
39:09I don't know.
39:09It's like our babies growing up.
39:11I think he'll love it.
39:13This is the perfect space for him to transition from seven until he's a teenager.
39:18You know when you look in this space.
39:19I know it's got the fun memories of what it was before.
39:21But your house has to evolve.
39:23Yeah.
39:23As your family evolves.
39:25But also.
39:25Alan deserves to have her own space.
39:32Oh.
39:35Ella is going to love this.
39:42It is such a cute, beautiful, light filled room.
39:46It is.
39:47And it's like all the pink that she loves.
39:49But something that she could grow into.
39:51She's on the verge of becoming a teen.
39:52And she's on the verge of wanting to be an adult.
39:54Right.
39:54It's a space that doesn't feel kiddish.
39:56Perfect for Ella.
39:58Yeah.
39:58All of it.
39:59Growing up here.
40:00It's hard to see potential.
40:01Because you're so used to a space being a certain way.
40:04You know the kids were begging us for their own space.
40:06So we did feel a lot of pressure to figure out kind of what to do.
40:10But we were also overwhelmed.
40:11You know I think this through this whole entire process.
40:14I've been holding a lot of pressure.
40:15We felt under pressure in terms of what the final product will look like.
40:20And also taking care of Naima.
40:22In fact he came to me at one point and he said you have been a champ through this whole
40:27process.
40:28Because you're going through a lot.
40:29But you're also still looking out for the kids.
40:30Looking out for the family.
40:32And so he asked if there's a little something we could do for you.
40:35You want to take her?
40:37What?
40:41Oh!
40:42Wow!
40:44Babe, this is exactly what I needed.
40:50This is so...
40:51Hey.
40:52Oh man.
40:56This feels so relaxing.
40:59This feels exactly the kind of space that I'd want to come into.
41:01After a long day.
41:03After treatment.
41:04After just the hustle and bustle of the day.
41:07There's something to be said for having a place of your own.
41:10Especially during your recovery.
41:12And I think it was important to Edo to know that you...
41:15You do have a zone that's safe for you when you need it.
41:18Once we heard that your treatments got extended...
41:23What are you thinking, Naima?
41:24I can tell it's emotionally hitting you.
41:26Yeah.
41:26Well, one, it's just, you know, such a thoughtful surprise.
41:30That I was truly not expecting.
41:32But learning that, you know, I did have breast cancer through this journey.
41:36There were moments where it felt a little overwhelming.
41:38You know?
41:40And just kind of managing all the logistical parts of moving out and the kids and treatment and work.
41:46And it's a lot.
41:47And to have kind of like a sanctuary or a space that...
41:51It looks this warm and comfortable and inviting.
41:55This is an amazing surprise.
41:56This was really sweet.
41:59Thank you, baby.
42:00I think we just need to back out and give you a few minutes in your own room.
42:03Yeah.
42:04Let us know how the kids enjoy this.
42:05Oh my gosh.
42:06Tell us what the kids' reaction is.
42:07Okay, we will.
42:08Oh, this is so sweet, babe.
42:12I would say the thing that's going to have the biggest impact on our day-to-day lives is the
42:15kitchen.
42:16Hands down.
42:17Like, I think that obviously the kids' rooms and their own spaces is why we went into this.
42:22Oh.
42:25Oh.
42:26Oh.
42:26Evan, this is your room.
42:29All yours.
42:30That is so cool.
42:32Watching our kids grow up before our eyes has been one of the most transformative experiences in this.
42:39Oh my goodness.
42:42This is all yours.
42:44This is amazing.
42:47They're growing.
42:48Their needs are changing and evolving.
42:50And then our needs are kind of changing and evolving.
42:52So I think this for us, for our family, is that next chapter in this house.
42:57We definitely honor the history of the house while still making the necessary upgrades for where we are now.
43:04I'm excited.
43:05I feel home.
43:06I feel home.
43:07I feel home.
