In a world where truth is openly mocked and brand-new teachings flood in from every direction, how do you know whether you're standing on solid ground or sinking into error? One man's urgent final words to friends he may never see again hold the exact strategy you need right now, the critical practice that steels you against deception and darkness.

00:00So you need this when you're having a very bad, rotten week.
00:06It is not a bottle of bourbon, by the way.
00:08It's not what it is.
00:10Because you need the same thing when you're having a good week.
00:13When you're having a very rotten, very bad week,
00:16and when you're having a good week, we both need the same thing,
00:19and that is encouragement.
00:23Encouragement.
00:25It comes from the two words, N, encourage.
00:27It literally needs to put courage into.
00:31And we're living in a very time that the days seem to be getting darker,
00:35and there's deception out there.
00:37The truth is mocked.
00:40And we need the courage to be able to recognize the truth,
00:43and we need the courage to be able to live out the truth.
00:45We need to be encouraged day by day.
00:48We need courage put into us.
00:52In the text out of Acts chapter 20,
00:55this is exactly what Paul is doing with the disciples.
00:58He is encouraging them.
01:00Likely, he will not see them again.
01:02Some of them, he will never see them again.
01:04And he wants to be able to make sure that they have everything they need at this point
01:08in their Christian growth to live out their faith daily.
01:11So he's encouraging them.
01:14Begins with him encouraging them in Ephesus,
01:16that we saw last week at the end of the riot,
01:19and then into the regions of Macedonia.
01:21And don't worry about some of these areas.
01:22I'll show you a picture later of where they're all located on a map.
01:25You can see them.
01:26He knew that he wouldn't see many of them again,
01:28and so he wanted to teach them the Word of God,
01:30to give them encouragement to live out their faith in this hostile world daily.
01:35So Acts chapter 20, if you have your Bible, open it up.
01:38We'll look at it together.
01:39We'll see here, as we walk through this section,
01:42the first part of Acts 20,
01:44is that the Word of God encourages and strengthens believers
01:48to live out their faith in a hostile world.
01:51And you can see as we get to it, this is exactly what he was doing.
01:54He was preaching and teaching the people to make sure they had what they need
01:56to live out their faith in this hostile world.
01:59And so they had the Word of God and knew it.
02:02And the question then for us is, how well do we know the Word of God?
02:07When a teaching comes our way that seems to be enticing,
02:11how do we have the ability to discern from the Word of God,
02:14whether it's actually a God-given teaching,
02:17or whether it's something that has been made up, some brand new teaching?
02:21How well do we know God's Word
02:24when something that is claiming to be the truth is presented to us,
02:29and we say, now wait a second, that does not adhere,
02:32does not line with God's Word.
02:34Are we able to discern truth from error?
02:37Because we're living in days that are being,
02:40are days of deception,
02:41and it seems to be growing stronger and stronger,
02:44even when what is known as the church.
02:47I'll give you a couple of examples later on.
02:50So 20 is right after the riot that they had at the end of 19,
02:55and he's still in Ephesus.
02:57So it's right after the riot, he's still in Ephesus,
03:00and it's time to leave.
03:01So if you'll look at verse number one of chapter 20,
03:04it says,
03:05after the uproar ceased,
03:06again, that was the riot,
03:07and the town clerk came along and was able to appease the crowd.
03:10The crowd dispersed,
03:11the mob, it wasn't a crowd, it was a mob,
03:13the mob dispersed.
03:15So after the uproar ceased,
03:17Paul sent for the disciples,
03:18those believers,
03:19remember he's still in Ephesus,
03:21and after encouraging them,
03:22he encourages them,
03:24and he said farewell and departed for Macedonia.
03:27So he's moving from Ephesus into the region of Macedonia again.
03:32I'll show you a map here later where you can see where that's at.
03:34When he had gone through those regions and had given them much encouragement,
03:39you see the word used again,
03:40he came to Greece,
03:41which was the city of Corinth,
03:43which we had been.
03:44There in Corinth,
03:45he spent three months.
03:46And when a plot was made against him by the Jews,
03:49as he was about to set sail for Syria,
03:52remember,
03:52he's on his way to Jerusalem,
03:53and then hopefully to Rome and Spain.
03:56He decided to return through Macedonia.
03:58So he doesn't take the boat.
03:59He goes back through Macedonia.
04:02So Padre the Berean,
04:04the son of Peros,
04:05accompanied him,
04:06and of the Thessalonians,
04:08Aristocrats,
04:10Sacutus,
04:11and Gaius of,
04:12these names,
04:13of Gaius of Derbe,
04:14and Timothy,
04:15and the Asians,
04:16Tychius and Tromaphius,
04:17these went on ahead,
04:19and were waiting for us at Troas,
04:22but we sailed away from Philippi
04:24after the days of unleavened bread,
04:26immediately following the Passover,
04:28and in five days,
04:29we came to them at Troas,
04:31where we stayed for seven days.
04:33It's a lot of information.
04:34He's moving around a lot right here.
04:36But he says farewell to the disciples at Ephesus.
04:39He is,
04:40Jerusalem is his final destination.
04:42I mean,
04:42he wants to go to Rome and to Spain,
04:43yes,
04:44but now he's going back to Jerusalem
04:45because he's got this large collection
04:47for the poor saints.
04:47He wants to take it to them.
04:49So he's got to get to Jerusalem.
04:50He's hoping to be there by Passover.
04:52That doesn't work.
04:53But like Jesus,
04:55Paul sets his face to go to Jerusalem.
04:57It was his goal to get to Jerusalem.
04:59Everything is moving him now to Jerusalem,
05:01and again,
05:01then to Rome and to Spain
05:02is what he had hoped to do.
05:05Luke 9,
05:06talking about Jesus.
05:07When the days drew near for him
05:09to be taken up,
05:10that's the cross,
05:11he set his face to go to Jerusalem.
05:13He was determined.
05:14He's on that direction,
05:15on that trajectory.
05:16He's heading towards Jerusalem.
05:18So he's encouraging them.
05:19Twice the word is used,
05:21encouraged and encouraging.
05:22What could have been?
05:23Well,
05:24could have been remain loyal to King Jesus.
05:26Remember at Ephesus,
05:27they had the people burning all their magical books
05:29and that we are moved from the kingdom of darkness
05:31to the kingdom of God's dear son.
05:33So we want to do away with those things
05:35in the kingdom of darkness
05:36and stay in the kingdom of King Jesus.
05:38So be loyal to Jesus,
05:39maybe one of the things he was saying to them.
05:41To live a life worthy of God's calling
05:44would be another thing.
05:44In fact, in the book of Ephesians,
05:47Paul talks to the Ephesians
05:48and he says this,
05:49I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord,
05:52urge you, Ephesians,
05:53to walk in a manner worthy of the calling
05:55to which you have been called
05:56with all humility and gentleness,
05:59with patience,
05:59bearing with one another in love,
06:01eager to maintain the unity of the spirit
06:03and the bond of peace.
06:04So maybe you'll live that life
06:05that's worthy of the calling
06:07that God has called you to.
06:08And you see,
06:09he used the word of God
06:11to encourage and to comfort them.
06:13Now, there wasn't many New Testament letters
06:17written at this point.
06:18So he's spending most of his time,
06:19of course, in the Old Testament,
06:20teaching them about Jesus in the Old Testament,
06:22how he's fulfilled
06:23in those prophecies of the Old Testament.
06:25But that encourages them through the word.
06:27At this time,
06:28he had written a letter to Corinth
06:31and Titus took the letter to Corinth.
06:33And he had hoped that Titus would meet him later on
06:36and he didn't show up.
06:37So he was really kind of discouraged.
06:39He didn't know if the Corinthians,
06:40the Corinthians had kind of turned against him
06:42because there were false apostles at Corinth
06:44and they were teaching people
06:45to disregard what Paul had to say.
06:47It wasn't important.
06:48So he sent a letter to them
06:50to remind them certain things
06:51and he was waiting for Titus
06:52to come back with a report.
06:54So he departed for Macedonia.
06:57He had hoped that Titus would meet him,
06:59but he hadn't come yet.
07:00So here's a picture of the missionary journey.
07:03It's kind of hard.
07:04Macedonia, top left.
07:06Green, Achaia,
07:07that's where Corinth is going to be.
07:09You've got Philippi, Thessalonica,
07:11up in the Macedonia area.
07:12And then later on in the text,
07:14he's on the pink Asia part.
07:15He's going to be traveling,
07:16hopping from port to port on that side
07:18when we get to it.
07:19It's just a lot of information
07:20at the end of this chapter,
07:22in this section.
07:23So this is where he's at.
07:25Macedonia, Achaia.
07:26He's moving around in this general area right here.
07:29And at Philippi,
07:31Paul meets up with Titus finally
07:32and he's encouraged that he got a good word
07:34that the Corinthians had said,
07:35yes, they had reconciled to Paul.
07:37And in 2 Corinthians chapter 7,
07:39we see it's recorded.
07:40But God, who comforts a downcast,
07:43comforted us by the coming of Titus,
07:45and not only by his coming,
07:47but also by the comfort
07:48that she was comforted by you
07:50as he told us of your longing,
07:52your mourning,
07:53your zeal for me,
07:54so that I rejoice still the more.
07:56So the good report comes back from Corinth
07:58that the Corinthians have reconciled with Paul.
08:01So he's excited.
08:02He's happy about that.
08:04This is the final,
08:05he ends up at Corinth.
08:07He's there for three months.
08:08The final time he visits Corinth,
08:09he doesn't come back again.
08:10It's the time of 55 to 56 AD
08:13in that winter time.
08:15The text tells us
08:16that he received credible intel
08:19that his life was at risk.
08:22So he decided not to get on the ship
08:24and sail away with them.
08:25He was hoping to get to Jerusalem by Passover.
08:28Instead, he went up to Macedonia, he said.
08:30And it makes perfect sense.
08:31He had credible intel
08:32that somebody wanted to kill him.
08:34If you get aboard a ship
08:35with a lot of pious Jews
08:37heading off to the Passover
08:38who hate you,
08:40it's really easy to get dead
08:42and be thrown overboard.
08:44So he was wise enough
08:46to listen to the Spirit saying,
08:48you know what?
08:49It would be testing God
08:50to get on that ship.
08:51Don't do that.
08:52Credible intel says you're going to die.
08:54Just don't get on the ship.
08:55Go a different direction.
08:57So he doesn't go.
08:58In fact, William Ramsey put it like this.
09:00Paul had arranged to sail
09:02from Corinth to Jerusalem,
09:03obviously with the intention
09:04of celebrating the Passover there.
09:06But the discovery of a Jewish plot
09:08to kill him altered his plans.
09:10The style of this plot
09:11can easily be imagined.
09:13Paul's intention must have been
09:14to take a pilgrim ship
09:15carrying Achaean and Asian Jews
09:17to the Passover.
09:18With a shipload of hostile Jews,
09:20it would be easy to find opportunity
09:21to murder Paul.
09:22He therefore abandoned
09:23the purpose voyage
09:24and sailed for Macedonia
09:25where he easily arrived in time
09:27to celebrate the Passover
09:28at Philippi.
09:29So intel says,
09:30don't get on the boat.
09:31You're going to die.
09:32So he doesn't do that.
09:32He takes counsel of that.
09:34He uses his wisdom
09:35not to tempt the Lord.
09:38That's actually when Jesus
09:39was tempted by the devil.
09:41That's exactly what he said
09:41in Matthew 4, 7.
09:43Jesus said to him,
09:44that's the devil.
09:44Again, it is written,
09:45you shall not put the Lord
09:46your God to the test.
09:48Of course he could have gone on
09:49and think,
09:49well, God's going to protect me.
09:50Well, no, he knew credible intel.
09:52He's going to die.
09:53He says,
09:54I'm not going to get on that ship.
09:55That was wise
09:56to act on the credible intel
09:57that he had.
09:58Don't get on the ship.
10:00Also remember,
10:01he's carrying the special offering
10:03for the poor saints of Jerusalem.
10:05Now, I don't know
10:06what it looked like.
10:07I don't know
10:07if they had paper script
10:08where they could transfer
10:09from a bank to a bank,
10:10if he was carrying silver,
10:12if he was carrying gold,
10:13if he was carrying
10:14other precious metals.
10:15Not sure what it looked like,
10:16but it was some sort
10:17of special offering.
10:18So he's got valuable things
10:19with him as well.
10:21And not only
10:22would that offering
10:23meet a legitimate need
10:24in Jerusalem,
10:24but it would show
10:25the unity of the Jews
10:26and the Gentiles
10:27together in one body.
10:28It's not just the Jews
10:29over here
10:29and the Gentiles over there.
10:30It's now in Christ
10:31we're all together
10:31in one body,
10:33unified.
10:35That's Ephesians chapter 2.
10:37But now in Christ Jesus,
10:38you,
10:39that's the Gentile Ephesians,
10:40you who once were far off
10:42have been brought near
10:44by the blood of Christ.
10:45For he himself
10:46is our peace
10:47who made us,
10:49Jews and Gentiles,
10:50both one in Christ
10:51and has broken down
10:52in his flesh
10:53the dividing wall
10:54of hostility
10:55by abolishing
10:56the law of commandments
10:57expressed in ordinances
10:59that he may create
11:00in himself
11:00one new man,
11:02Jews and Gentiles,
11:03one body,
11:03the body of Christ
11:04in the place of the two,
11:06so making peace
11:07and he might reconcile
11:08us both to God
11:10in one body
11:10through the cross
11:11thereby killing
11:12the hostility.
11:15The Jews and the Gentiles
11:17now in Christ
11:17are unified
11:18and so this offering
11:19would just show
11:20to the Jews
11:21that they are
11:22in Christ unified.
11:24Now there's a long list
11:25of Gentile names here
11:26and this long list
11:27of the Gentiles
11:28were names
11:28of the delegates
11:29that were chosen
11:29by the churches
11:30to accompany Paul.
11:32So you see
11:32multiple regions
11:33are selected
11:34to go with Paul
11:35to carry this special offering
11:36to the poor saints
11:37in Jerusalem.
11:39See,
11:40Paul valued teamwork.
11:43Sometimes he traveled
11:44by himself,
11:44it's not often
11:45but occasionally
11:46you would see him
11:46by himself
11:47when he was left
11:47alone in Athens
11:48but mostly
11:49he's together
11:49with a team
11:50like right here.
11:51He values teamwork.
11:53Team,
11:53together,
11:54everyone achieves more.
11:56He values teamwork.
11:58See,
11:58the purpose
11:59of the body of Christ,
12:00the church,
12:00is to function
12:01as a unity,
12:02to be unified.
12:03That's why
12:04the body metaphor
12:05is given.
12:05Body's not
12:06a disjointed,
12:08pieces all over the place,
12:09the body is one.
12:10It shows a unity.
12:12So we want
12:13to seek ways
12:14to work together
12:15in our ministries
12:16and not independent
12:17of one another
12:18in our ministries.
12:20When we first came
12:21to Medical Aid Community Church
12:22nearly 25 years ago,
12:24it'll be 25 years in June,
12:25we had people
12:26doing ministries
12:27and they were doing good.
12:27They were not doing
12:28anything wrong
12:29in their ministry.
12:30They were doing their ministry
12:31and they were doing it well.
12:32The only problem was
12:33they thought their ministry
12:34was the only ministry
12:35in the church.
12:37So they didn't think
12:38about any other ministries
12:39that were in the church.
12:40So they were doing
12:41their ministry
12:41independent of everyone
12:43else in the church
12:43and there wasn't
12:44this unified movement
12:45of the whole church
12:46together working
12:47in ministry.
12:49There was a chili feed
12:50planned for Awana Club
12:52to raise money
12:52for the Awana Club
12:53and they had decided
12:55that they were going
12:56to set up early
12:56before the chili feed
12:58and they started
12:58setting up over
12:59in the annex area
13:00where we had,
13:01it used to be called
13:01God Time,
13:02now it's called
13:03Bible Zone Experience.
13:04And so they were setting
13:05up the chili feed
13:06over there and I said,
13:07I said,
13:08don't you know
13:09that God Time
13:10is going to be here?
13:11Well, yeah,
13:11we're doing this
13:12for the Awana Club.
13:12This is our ministry
13:13but God Time
13:15is supposed to be
13:15right here.
13:16Can you do it
13:16after God Time?
13:18See, it wasn't
13:18what they were doing
13:19was wrong
13:19having a fundraiser
13:21for Awana.
13:22It's not wrong
13:22that they just weren't
13:23thinking of any other
13:23ministries in the church.
13:25They were doing
13:25something independent
13:26of everyone else.
13:28So I say to you,
13:30if you lead
13:30or are part of a ministry,
13:32do not see your ministry
13:33as isolated
13:34from all the other
13:35ministries in the church.
13:37The worship team
13:38is not isolated
13:38from the preaching
13:39or the teaching
13:40or the serving
13:41or the greeting.
13:42It's all together
13:43as one unit.
13:44That's why when people say,
13:45oh, it was such a good Sunday,
13:46it wasn't just the preacher.
13:49It was everything.
13:50It was the worship team.
13:51It was the greeters
13:52that smiled at me
13:53when I came in.
13:53It was the word
13:54presented to me.
13:55It was the package deal.
13:57It was all of us together.
13:58That's how it's supposed to be.
14:01So seek to find ways
14:02to make sure
14:02the ministry fits
14:03in the overall ministry
14:05of Medical Aid Community Church.
14:06So if you lead a ministry
14:07or a part of it,
14:08think about it like that.
14:09We're doing this together.
14:11Together.
14:12So he's carrying
14:13this large sum of money
14:14and so these delegates
14:16also function as protectors.
14:17I mean, again,
14:18I don't know how they carry that,
14:19whether it's precious metal.
14:20I'm not sure.
14:21Script maybe?
14:22Drawn on a bank?
14:23Not quite sure.
14:24But they had this offering.
14:26So he sailed away
14:27from Philippi
14:27after Passover.
14:28He was able
14:29to stay there at Passover.
14:30Notice in verse 5 and 6,
14:32we see the we
14:33and the us
14:33get picked back up.
14:35That tells us
14:35that Luke joins the team again.
14:38Luke's back on the team.
14:39So Luke apparently
14:40had stayed in Philippi
14:41and ministered in Philippi
14:42and now they're back together
14:44as a team.
14:44We see the us
14:45and the we
14:45brought back into the text
14:47right here.
14:48So likely the team
14:50was waiting the seven days.
14:51You see they wait,
14:52they stayed there seven days.
14:53They're waiting
14:53for the next ship to sail on.
14:54So they're waiting
14:55the seven days
14:56for the next ship to come.
14:57So look at verse number 7.
15:00They decided
15:01just throughout
15:02the seven days
15:03of the waiting
15:04they were just going
15:04to kick back
15:05and just kick their feet up.
15:07No, actually
15:07on the first day
15:08of the week
15:08when we were gathered together
15:10so they came together
15:11in a worship
15:12church service
15:13gathered together
15:14to break bread.
15:16Paul talked with them
15:17intending to depart
15:18on the next day.
15:19That was his ideal.
15:20And he prolonged
15:21his speech
15:22until midnight.
15:23So he's been talking
15:24a long time already.
15:25There were many lamps
15:26in the upper room
15:27where we were gathered
15:28so maybe stuffy
15:29by the oil lamps
15:30maybe the oil
15:31a little bit
15:31you know
15:32kind of can't get much air.
15:33And a young man
15:34named Eutychus
15:35sitting at the window
15:36sank into a deep sleep
15:38as Paul talked
15:39still longer
15:40the text says
15:41and being overcome
15:43by sleep
15:43he fell down
15:44from the third story
15:45and was taken up dead.
15:46That's Luke's way
15:47of saying he died.
15:48He fell three stories
15:50splat.
15:53But Paul went down
15:54and bent over him
15:56and taking him
15:57in his arms
15:57said
15:57do not be alarmed
15:59for his life
15:59is in him
16:00so God brings
16:01his life back
16:01in him.
16:02And when Paul
16:03had gone up
16:04and had broken bread
16:05and eaten
16:06he conversed
16:07with them
16:07a long while
16:08until daybreak
16:10until daybreak
16:12and so departed.
16:13And they took
16:14the youth away
16:15alive
16:15and were not
16:16a little comforted
16:17which means
16:17they are a lot
16:18comforted
16:19is the idea there.
16:20So this is
16:21the earliest record
16:22we have
16:22of Christians
16:23meeting on Sunday
16:24the first day
16:25of the week.
16:26They began
16:27meeting on Sunday
16:28the first day
16:28the day
16:28of the resurrection.
16:30The Bible
16:31does not require
16:31Christians to observe
16:32the Sabbath.
16:33It's not written
16:33that we should
16:34and there's no
16:34warning by Paul
16:35that Christians
16:36should or should not
16:37embrace the Sabbath.
16:39As a matter of fact
16:39he talked about
16:40the idea of Sabbath
16:41as for
16:42either for salvation
16:43or for sanctification
16:45that that was a picture.
16:47Colossians 2 says
16:48therefore let no one
16:49pass judgment
16:50on you
16:50in questions
16:51of food
16:52and drink
16:52or with regard
16:53to a festival
16:54or a new moon
16:55or a Sabbath.
16:56These are a shadow
16:58of the things
16:59to come.
16:59They pointed
17:00to something bigger.
17:01They're the shadow
17:01of things to come
17:02but the substance
17:03belongs to Christ.
17:05So Christians
17:06met on the first
17:06day of the week
17:07not on the Sabbath
17:08as they gathered
17:08together remembering
17:09the resurrection
17:10of Jesus.
17:11Luke's account
17:12of the worship service
17:13is descriptive
17:14not prescriptive.
17:16In other words
17:17this isn't only
17:18the things
17:18we're supposed
17:19to do here.
17:20The two things
17:21actually three things
17:22that the Lord's Supper
17:23the agape feast
17:24the love feast
17:24and then lots
17:25of preaching
17:25lots of preaching
17:27by Paul.
17:28So those aren't
17:28the only things
17:29one is supposed
17:29to do in a worship
17:30service.
17:31As a matter of fact
17:321 Timothy 4.13 says
17:33until I come
17:34devote yourself
17:35to the public
17:36reading of scripture
17:37to exhortation
17:38to teaching.
17:39It doesn't mention
17:40here there's a public
17:41reading of scripture.
17:42You hear it every Sunday.
17:43We have a scripture
17:43reading every Sunday
17:44the public reading
17:45of scripture.
17:46Other elements
17:47in a worship service
17:48that weren't mentioned
17:49here was prayer
17:49that wasn't mentioned.
17:51Prayer
17:51singing psalms
17:53and hymns
17:53and spiritual songs.
17:55Those were not
17:55mentioned that they did.
17:56They may have
17:57it's just not mentioned.
17:58That's why it's
17:58just describing
17:59what happened
18:00not prescribing
18:00that we have to do
18:01it just this way.
18:03There's also sharing
18:04done decently
18:05and in order
18:05just like we did today.
18:06Those are all parts
18:07of a service as well
18:08just not mentioned
18:09right here.
18:10So the Lord's Supper
18:11was celebrated
18:12along with a fellowship
18:13meal
18:13an agape feast
18:14is why they talk
18:15about it.
18:15Now think about this.
18:17You've got this church
18:18gathering together.
18:19You've got people
18:20who are slaves.
18:22Got some of them
18:23who may actually
18:23be the master
18:24of the slaves
18:25but also maybe not
18:26their slaves are present
18:28but the slaves
18:29and the masters
18:30are sitting together
18:32at one table
18:33celebrating the Lord's Supper.
18:36That's the unity.
18:38Whether you're a slave
18:39or you're a master
18:40you're together
18:40you're one in Christ.
18:42No one is above
18:43the other in Christ.
18:44In society
18:45it may look differently
18:46but not at the
18:47Lord's Supper table.
18:48We're all equal together
18:49at the Lord's Supper table.
18:52Here we have some
18:53of the elements
18:53of the worship
18:54in the early church.
18:55Again not
18:56prescriptive
18:57but descriptive
18:58and that would be
18:59the Lord's Supper
19:00and preaching
19:01and you can add
19:02a third one
19:02with agape feast
19:03that's in there
19:04as mentioned as well
19:04but the Lord's Supper
19:06and preaching.
19:07So the church
19:09meets together
19:10for edification
19:13not just celebration.
19:15We celebrate
19:16through the songs.
19:17We celebrate
19:18through what we heard
19:18the praises
19:19and the prayer requests.
19:21We celebrate
19:21but it's more
19:22than just celebration
19:23it's also edification.
19:25So when you come in
19:26on a Sunday
19:26hopefully whoever's
19:27speaking from this pulpit
19:28will explain to you
19:29the word of God
19:30how you can trust
19:31God's word
19:32and then live it out
19:33throughout the week
19:34until we come back
19:34again together.
19:36It's for edification
19:37as well
19:37not just celebration.
19:39So he's edified.
19:40He knows he's not
19:40going to see them again
19:42and if he can't
19:43see them again
19:43he wants to make sure
19:44they have everything
19:44they need to live out
19:45their faith day by day.
19:48Paul wanted to teach
19:49and encourage them
19:50likely never to see
19:51them again
19:52so he spoke
19:53for a long time.
19:55Also what's interesting
19:56is in those days
19:58Sunday wasn't a day off
20:00so you worked really hard
20:02all day Sunday
20:02and when they came together
20:03it was likely
20:04in the evening
20:05for a church service
20:06because you did
20:06all your work
20:07all day long
20:07they didn't have
20:08Sundays off
20:09especially if you're
20:10a slave
20:10you don't have
20:10Sundays off
20:11so they would come
20:12together in the evening
20:13at least here
20:14and have a worship
20:15service in the evening
20:16and the meeting
20:17was held
20:17obviously in a
20:18private house
20:19someone's home
20:21interesting
20:22in verses 7 and 9
20:23Paul talked
20:24is what the text says
20:25it's where we get
20:26our word dialogue
20:28so in 7 and 9
20:29he's talking
20:30and maybe they're
20:31asking him questions
20:32he's dialoguing
20:33with the people
20:34that are there
20:34that evening
20:35so he's dialoguing
20:36with them
20:36in verses 7 and 9
20:38in verse number 11
20:40it says he conversed
20:41it's where we get
20:42our word homily from
20:44it means a sermon
20:45especially one
20:46intended to explain
20:47the practical
20:48and moral implications
20:49of a particular
20:50spiritual passage
20:51so he's dialoguing
20:53with them
20:53and then he's teaching
20:54them
20:54and then he's dialoguing
20:55with them
20:55and then he's teaching
20:56them
20:58Eutychus is
20:59a young boy
21:00probably 9 to 14 years old
21:01he's not real old
21:02he's not like a child
21:03but he's about 9 to 14 years old
21:05he's in this place
21:07people
21:08and oil lamps
21:09so he probably crawls up
21:10in the windowsill
21:11because he can't get
21:12a good breath of air
21:13he needs some fresh air
21:14so he's sitting up
21:15in the windowsill
21:15and he's sitting up there
21:16so that he could
21:18stay awake
21:19that was his intentions
21:20he was going to stay awake
21:21but the text says
21:22that Paul
21:23prolonged his speech
21:25which means
21:25he kept talking
21:26and he kept talking
21:27and he kept talking
21:29and he kept talking
21:30and he didn't stop
21:31he just kept talking
21:34and Eutychus
21:35gets tired
21:37and he
21:37and he falls asleep
21:38and he falls out
21:39of the window
21:40and splat
21:41three stories
21:42down on the ground
21:42he's dead
21:44we
21:45we had a guy
21:46in Bible college
21:47his name was
21:48Robert Hatch
21:48Robert
21:49I don't know
21:50if you watch me
21:50but it's for you
21:53he in class
21:54would kick his chair back
21:55we're in metal
21:55metal folding chairs
21:57he'd kick his chair back
21:58and he'd fall asleep
22:00in the class
22:01and he sat
22:01on the first row
22:02and so the teacher
22:03would come along
22:04and tip the bottom
22:05of his chair
22:05not knock him
22:06all the way over
22:06but just enough
22:07to scare him
22:08so the whole class
22:09called him
22:09Eutychus Hatch
22:11that was his name
22:12yeah
22:13great thing is
22:14a lot of people
22:15in our Bible college
22:16are not in the ministry
22:17anymore
22:17he still is
22:18so Eutychus
22:19is still in ministry
22:20so that's great
22:20I'm really happy
22:21with that
22:21he's still in ministry
22:23but he just dies
22:24right in the middle
22:25of the service
22:27one Sunday morning
22:28the pastor noticed
22:29little Alex
22:30standing in the foyer area
22:31looking up at a plaque
22:33it was covered with names
22:35and small American flags
22:36on it
22:36and he was looking
22:38at it for some time
22:39and the pastor
22:39walked up
22:40and stood beside him
22:41quietly
22:41and he said
22:42good morning Alex
22:42and he said
22:44good morning pastor
22:45and he said
22:46Pastor McGee
22:47what is this plaque
22:48what is this
22:49Alex asked
22:50he said
22:51well son
22:52it's a memorial
22:53to all the men and women
22:54who have died in service
22:56it's okay
22:57he just looked at it
22:58for a while
22:59pretty soon
23:00he had a voice
23:01that's very audible
23:02and he says
23:03which one
23:04the 9 or 11 o'clock service
23:11Eutychus dies
23:12in the middle
23:12of the church service
23:14he's just
23:14he's dead
23:18but Luke doesn't want us
23:19to blame Eutychus
23:20he doesn't put any
23:21blame on him
23:22he doesn't want us
23:22to say oh what a bad guy
23:23no he just tells us
23:24what happened
23:25I mean he just got tired
23:26maybe you and I
23:27would do the same thing
23:28we would just fall asleep
23:29but he falls out
23:29and he dies
23:31so Paul goes down
23:32to him
23:32he's dead
23:33and like Elijah
23:34and Elisha
23:34he prays
23:36and asks God
23:37and God brings back
23:38his spirit
23:38in 1 Kings 17
23:40we see this with Elijah
23:42then he stretched himself
23:43upon the child
23:44three times
23:44and cried to the Lord
23:45oh Lord my God
23:47let this child's life
23:48come into him again
23:49and the Lord
23:50listened to the voice
23:51of Elijah
23:51and the life of the child
23:52came into him again
23:53and he revived
23:54so anyone knowing
23:55the story here
23:55would think about
23:56that story
23:57when Eutychus
23:58was healed
23:58and brought back
23:59to life
24:00so here God
24:02turns tragedy
24:03into joy
24:04God's power
24:05was present
24:06working in the midst
24:07of his people
24:07and Eutychus
24:09is resuscitated
24:10brought back to life
24:12second account
24:13of raising of the dead
24:14in Acts
24:14the first one was
24:14Tabitha in Acts 9
24:16Acts 9 40
24:17but Peter put them
24:18all outside
24:19and nailed down
24:19and prayed
24:20turning to the body
24:21he said
24:21Tabitha arise
24:22and she opened her eyes
24:24and when she saw
24:24Peter she sat up
24:25so that was the first
24:26resuscitation
24:26this is now the second
24:28one in the book of Acts
24:29so the power
24:30that is energizing
24:31the church
24:31is a resurrection
24:32of Jesus Christ
24:33that power
24:33that Paul says
24:34I want that power
24:35of that resurrection
24:36at work in my life
24:37Philippians 3
24:38that I may know him
24:39and the power
24:40of his resurrection
24:41may and may share
24:42in his sufferings
24:43becoming like him
24:44in his death
24:45so they go down
24:46God heals Eutychus
24:48they bring him back up
24:48and then he continues
24:49preaching until daybreak
24:52until daybreak
24:53I don't want to hear
24:54any complaints
24:55about long preaching
24:56ever again
24:57ever
24:59I will never do that
25:00to you
25:01I promise
25:03but he just kept talking
25:04why?
25:05because he's not going
25:05to see them again
25:07he wants to make sure
25:08they have everything
25:09they need to live out
25:09their faith day by day
25:10and so he keeps preaching
25:11to them
25:12teaching them
25:13see nothing strengthens
25:15a believer
25:15like the word of God
25:16so knowing that
25:18they might not see
25:19them again
25:19Paul wants to teach
25:20them the word of God
25:21he wants them
25:22to know God's word
25:23he knows how important
25:24that is
25:26teaching the word of God
25:27was important to Paul
25:29he wanted to make sure
25:30that they knew God's word
25:31they had something
25:32to hold on to
25:33when life gets hard
25:34when it just beats you up
25:36and it crashes down
25:37around you
25:38he wanted them
25:38something to hang on to
25:39that they can continue
25:40on with hope
25:41and encouragement
25:44it saddens me
25:45to see the word of God
25:47neglected in so many
25:48churches today
25:49it saddens me
25:50I don't go to all the
25:51churches around
25:52I've seen clips of churches
25:53and pastors preaching
25:54it saddens me
25:56in many churches today
25:57there is no exegetical
25:58preaching
25:59exegetical simply means
26:00you take a passage
26:01of scripture
26:01you speak it clearly
26:03you give it understanding
26:05so that people listening
26:06will understand
26:07if you want to know
26:08what I'm talking about
26:08look at Nehemiah 8
26:098
26:10that's a perfect example
26:11they read the word
26:12clearly
26:13he gave the meaning
26:14of what the word is
26:15so that the people
26:16could understand
26:16that's exegetical
26:18you don't see a lot
26:19of exegetical preaching
26:20today in churches
26:22I call them
26:23spiritual pep talks
26:24they're not necessarily
26:25that they're heresy
26:26they just have nothing
26:27to do with the text
26:29I want your confidence
26:30to be rooted
26:31in the text
26:32not in something
26:33that comes out
26:33of my head
26:34I want it to be
26:35in the text
26:38a person can have
26:39no confidence
26:40in the text
26:41if they don't know
26:42what it means
26:44we have a problem
26:46in these latter days
26:47we are told already
26:48in 1st Timothy 4
26:49now the spirit
26:51expressly says
26:52that in latter times
26:53some will depart
26:54from the faith
26:55by devoting themselves
26:56to deceitful spirits
26:57and teachings
26:58of demons
26:59through the insincerity
27:01of liars
27:02whose consciences
27:03are seared
27:04that's a warning
27:04for the last days
27:05which we are part of
27:07right now
27:07the last days
27:08you see the deception
27:09coming out already
27:10if you're on X
27:11or any other social media
27:12platforms
27:13and you hear stuff
27:13you go wait a second
27:14that's not what
27:15the Bible says
27:16you're able to discern that
27:18because you know
27:18the Bible well enough
27:23they will depart
27:24from the faith
27:25by devoting themselves
27:27to deceitful spirits
27:28and teachings
27:28of demons
27:30Gloria Howard
27:31wrote about this lady
27:32I saw the clip
27:33on X
27:34and I went and chased
27:35down the article
27:35so I could read to you
27:36what actually she said
27:38so I had it
27:38the woman's name
27:40is David Flunder
27:41senior pastor
27:42of City of Refuge
27:43United Church of Christ
27:44in Oakland
27:45and presiding bishop
27:46of the Fellowship
27:47of Affirming Ministries
27:49that should give you
27:50a clue right there
27:50made the remarks
27:52while reflecting
27:53on how believers
27:53engage with scripture
27:54in contemporary religious life
27:56quote
27:57I'm of the opinion
27:59that we need
27:59a third testament
28:00because the Bible
28:01has become problematic
28:03end quote
28:04Flanders said
28:06during the address
28:06framing her comments
28:07as a personal theological reflection
28:09rather than
28:10an official doctrinal position
28:11she pointed to passages
28:13she described
28:13as difficult to reconcile
28:15with modern Christian practice
28:17so what's going on
28:18in society today
28:19she can't reconcile
28:20the verses
28:20with modern Christian practice
28:22Flanders questioned
28:23how such text
28:24should be understood today
28:25quote
28:26and people will say
28:27well it's in the book
28:28and I said
28:29then we need to pull
28:31that page out
28:34end quote
28:34she said
28:35also drew a distinction
28:37between scripture
28:38and interpretation
28:38stating quote
28:39it's not the word of God
28:41it's words about God
28:46emphasizing your view
28:47that biblical writings
28:48reflect human interpretation
28:49of divine experience
28:50rather than direct
28:51unchanging authority
28:53calling for a third testament
28:55because these two
28:56are problematic
28:57they don't fit into
28:58what Christians
28:59Christians
29:00in this modern
29:01American society
29:02want to practice
29:04it gets worse
29:052 Timothy chapter 4
29:07I charge you
29:08in the presence of God
29:09and of Christ Jesus
29:10who is to judge
29:12the living and the dead
29:13and by his appearing
29:14in his kingdom
29:14preach the word
29:16be ready in season
29:17again we're talking
29:18about the word
29:18preach the word
29:19be ready in season
29:20and out of season
29:21reprove
29:22rebuke
29:22and exhort
29:23with complete patience
29:24and teaching
29:25so teach them
29:26the word of God
29:26for the time
29:27is coming
29:28when people
29:29will not endure
29:30sound teaching
29:30but having itching ears
29:32they will accumulate
29:33for themselves
29:34teachers to suit
29:35their own passions
29:36and will turn away
29:38from listening
29:38to the truth
29:39and wander off
29:40into myths
29:43do you know
29:44the word of
29:45do I know
29:45the word of God
29:46well enough
29:47to identify
29:48false teaching
29:49when I hear it
29:50when you hear it
29:52you hear something
29:52you say
29:53well that sounds
29:53kind of interesting
29:54but do you know
29:55the word well enough
29:56do you say
29:56wait a second
29:57that's not what
29:58God said
29:58God said it like
30:00this
30:00not like that
30:01do you know
30:02the word of God
30:03well enough
30:03there are so many
30:04lies being taught
30:05about God's name
30:06in God's name
30:07and about God's name
30:09and it seems to be
30:10increasing
30:10people will say
30:11well God said this
30:12I ran into that
30:13Friday night
30:14too long a story
30:15to tell
30:15God said this
30:16no he didn't
30:18is what I was
30:18trying to say
30:20the question is
30:21will you or I
30:22get trapped
30:22in false teaching
30:23because it sounds
30:24good
30:25but we don't
30:26know God's word
30:26well enough
30:27to discern the
30:27error
30:29so Paul wants
30:30to teach them
30:31all of these
30:31errors are going
30:32to be coming
30:32their way
30:33and he wants
30:33them to understand
30:34this is what
30:34God has said
30:35trust God
30:36lean into him
30:39here's another
30:39example
30:40Pastor Joe
30:41Smith of
30:42Mizon
30:43I hope that
30:44I pronounced
30:44it correctly
30:45Mizon Church
30:46Christian Church
30:47Disciples of
30:47Christ
30:48explained that
30:49he doesn't
30:49care what
30:50Paul says
30:50in the Bible
30:51quote
30:51I got the
30:53clip and I
30:53tried to
30:53transcribe it
30:54the best of
30:54my ability
30:56quote
30:57I'm going to
30:57say this
30:58with the nicest
30:58way possible
30:59I don't care
31:00what it says
31:01I just don't
31:02care
31:03like if that
31:04is what Paul
31:04meant I mean
31:05really meant
31:06that he was
31:07wrong
31:08just like he
31:09was wrong
31:09on slavery
31:10you know that
31:11he was wrong
31:12about slavery
31:12he was
31:13so why am I
31:14going to take
31:15his sexual
31:16ethic
31:16where he had
31:17zero understanding
31:18of human
31:19biology
31:19right like
31:20his sexual
31:21ethic is
31:22don't get
31:23married and
31:23don't have
31:23sex
31:25partially because
31:26Jesus is coming
31:27back imminently
31:27and you don't
31:28have time for
31:29it anyway
31:30well he was
31:31wrong about
31:31that too
31:31that's Jesus
31:32coming back
31:32by the way
31:33he was wrong
31:33about that too
31:34so why am I
31:35going to take
31:36these literal
31:37four verses
31:38and apply them
31:38unilaterally to
31:39everybody
31:40at the end
31:41of the day
31:41I don't care
31:42he was wrong
31:44I would
31:45never say
31:46the apostle
31:46Paul is
31:47wrong
31:48this is what
31:49we're confronted
31:50with and it's
31:50going to get
31:51progressively worse
31:52in the days
31:53we are in
31:53the latter
31:54days
31:57listen I'm
31:58not a great
31:58preacher or a
31:59bible teacher
32:00but I love
32:02the word of
32:02God
32:03I love the
32:05word of
32:05God
32:05when I got
32:06saved I
32:07could not
32:08stop consuming
32:09the word of
32:10God it was
32:10just something
32:11this passion
32:12in me to
32:13know the
32:13word of
32:14God
32:15and my
32:15desire
32:16every Sunday
32:17when I come
32:17here is that
32:18I've studied
32:18well enough
32:19to be able
32:19to explain
32:20it to you
32:21so that you
32:21can walk
32:22away and say
32:22I know
32:23the word
32:23of God
32:23I know
32:24what this
32:25scripture says
32:25not what
32:25Pastor Mark
32:26says I
32:26don't care
32:27I know
32:28what the
32:28scripture
32:28says because
32:29when the
32:29tough time
32:29comes you
32:30need scripture
32:31to hold
32:31on to not
32:31Pastor Mark
32:33you need
32:33scripture
32:362 Peter 1
32:373 Peter
32:38says this
32:40his divine
32:41power has
32:41granted to
32:42us all
32:42things that
32:43pertain to
32:43life and
32:44godliness
32:45through the
32:46knowledge of
32:47him who
32:49called us to
32:50his own
32:50glory and
32:51excellence
32:51how do you
32:52know about
32:52God you
32:53got to get
32:53into his
32:53word
32:54if you want
32:55to know
32:55who God
32:56is we
32:56know that
32:57God exists
32:57because creation
32:58creation tells
32:59us there's a
33:00creator we
33:00understand that
33:01but do you
33:02see his
33:02love his
33:03mercy his
33:04grace his
33:05forgiveness
33:06that's not
33:07wrapped in the
33:07creation model
33:08we know that
33:09because he's
33:09revealed it
33:10to us
33:10we would not
33:11even know what
33:12he was like
33:12unless he
33:13revealed it
33:14to us
33:14we would just
33:15be guessing
33:15what this
33:16God was
33:16like but
33:17he's revealed
33:18himself to
33:18us why
33:19because he
33:19wants you
33:19to know
33:20him to
33:21know him
33:22when the
33:23tough time
33:23comes you
33:23can hang
33:24on to
33:24him he
33:26can be
33:26your anchor
33:27that's both
33:28head knowledge
33:29but also
33:31experiential
33:31knowledge when
33:33it says don't
33:33be anxious and
33:34you say father
33:34I'm anxious
33:35right now please
33:36comfort me and
33:37he comforts
33:37you that's
33:38experiential
33:38knowledge his
33:40faithfulness worked
33:41out on your
33:41life the
33:43knowledge of
33:43him that's
33:44the key
33:45faith must be
33:46rooted in the
33:47word of God
33:48it must be
33:48there's no such
33:49thing as blind
33:50faith if God
33:51didn't say
33:51something's going
33:52to happen you
33:52can't claim it's
33:53going to what he
33:55says is true it
33:56will happen what
33:57his promises are
33:57they will come to
33:58pass but we
33:59can't just up and
34:00say well I want
34:01this to happen so
34:01therefore I'm going
34:02to tell God that
34:02he's going to do
34:03this we can't do
34:04that has to be
34:05rooted in a
34:06word
34:07doesn't matter
34:08how great your
34:09faith is if it's
34:09not rooted in the
34:10word of God it is
34:11not valid
34:13it is of utmost
34:15importance for us
34:16as you and I as
34:16believers to know
34:17God's word
34:18through his word we
34:19learn his character
34:20and we get to know
34:21him and when the
34:22world crashes in
34:23around you do you
34:24know God well
34:25enough to say God
34:26I'm holding on to
34:27you and your
34:27promises I'm
34:29holding on to your
34:29character that you
34:30will never leave me
34:31or forsake me that
34:32nothing will separate
34:33me from your love I'm
34:34holding tight to
34:35that God you can't
34:38trust a person you
34:39don't know in his
34:42word there are
34:43promises to us
34:43believer and when
34:45your world crashes in
34:46around you do you
34:46know the promises
34:47well enough to hang
34:48on to them so you
34:49don't drown do you
34:53know him first of
34:55all do you know him
34:56have you been born
34:57again are you in
34:58Christ are you saved
35:00you first of all you
35:00have to know him and
35:02then his spirit teaches
35:03us about him through
35:04his word according to
35:07D Martin Lloyd-Jones a
35:08pastor and writer the
35:10decadent periods and
35:12errors in the history of
35:13the church have always
35:14been those periods when
35:15preaching has declined
35:19God willing and to the
35:20best of my ability I will
35:22study really hard every
35:23week and come here and
35:25give you what I have
35:26learned myself and
35:27share with you and
35:28hopefully you will
35:29understand what the
35:30Bible says in a
35:31particular passage and
35:32so when you go home
35:33you'll think about the
35:34passage and not what I
35:35said but the passage
35:36and your hope and
35:38trust will be in God
35:39not the words of
35:39Pastor Mark but I
35:41want to make sure that
35:42I do the best I can to
35:43give you that that you
35:44can grow in your faith
35:47and I challenge you
35:48today to read your
35:49Bible through this year
35:52better hurry up it's
35:53already April okay I
35:55will give you if you
35:55start now until next
35:56April that works for me
35:57too but I challenge you
35:59read your Bible study
36:01idiot get to know him
36:03this is what courage
36:04comes from an
36:06encouragement if you
36:08complete read this in
36:09the Bible before do it
36:10again as many times as
36:13you possibly can you'll
36:13notice the pieces start
36:14working together as you
36:15you read oh I didn't
36:16understand that and then
36:17that piece fits there and
36:18that piece fits there
36:19pretty soon you start
36:20seeing the whole big
36:20picture again now this
36:23last paragraph last
36:25paragraph is just a
36:26bunch of fast-moving
36:27locations so I'm going to
36:28throw the map back up
36:29again while I'm reading
36:30it they're on the pink
36:31area and they're
36:33bouncing from port to
36:34port on that pink area
36:35as he's moving back
36:36towards Jerusalem so
36:37there's just a lot of
36:37information I'll read it
36:38to you make a couple of
36:39comments but going ahead
36:42to the ship we set sail
36:43for also again I'm sorry
36:44the map is you probably
36:45can't see it really good
36:46but all the little port
36:47areas right there you can
36:48see the red lines these
36:49are all just a bunch of
36:50ports and tending to
36:51take Paul aboard there for
36:53so he had arranged
36:54intending himself to go by
36:56land so he was going to
36:57get on the ship but he
36:58decided to go by land
36:59maybe to encourage other
37:00believers I don't know
37:01the text doesn't say and
37:03when he met us at
37:04Assos we took him on
37:05board and went to
37:06Mitalin and sailing from
37:08there we came to the
37:09following day opposite
37:10Kilos or Kios and the
37:13next day we touched at
37:14Samos and the next day
37:15after that we went to
37:16Miletus again just a bunch
37:17of ports for Paul had
37:19decided to sail past
37:20Ephesus so we didn't want
37:21to go back to Ephesus
37:22that's where the riot was
37:23so we might not have to
37:24spend time in Asia he's
37:26trying to get to
37:26Jerusalem for he was
37:28hastening to be at
37:29Jerusalem if possible on
37:30the day of Pentecost so
37:31he's down below as he's
37:33ending up he'll end up in
37:34Jerusalem but he's trying
37:35to get back to Jerusalem
37:36on the day of Pentecost
37:37Passover to Pentecost is
37:3850 days he's already
37:40spent 12 days so he's in
37:41a hurry to get to
37:42Jerusalem so he doesn't
37:43want to spend time in
37:44Ephesus knowing that he'll
37:46probably spend time teaching
37:47them again to make sure
37:48they know God's word
37:52so all these short stops on
37:54his way to Jerusalem and
37:55he's going to end up in
37:56Miletus because that's
37:58where he calls for the
37:59Ephesian elders to come
38:00visit him and he gives
38:01them in some instructions
38:02you'll see that next week
38:03so he stops at Miletus
38:04right here so here's some
38:06things that we can take
38:07away from this passage
38:08number one is this be an
38:10encourager we need to be
38:13encouraged be an
38:14encourager those around us
38:16need to be encouraged with
38:17God's word and and another
38:21side of that is this allow
38:23yourself to be encouraged
38:26allow yourself to be
38:27encouraged when someone
38:29comes up to you give you
38:30an encouraged word thank
38:31them allow yourself to oh
38:33no no no allow yourself to
38:34be encouraged second know
38:38God's word well enough not
38:39to get taken captive by
38:40human philosophies and
38:41empty deceit know God's
38:43word I challenge you again
38:45know God's word I will do
38:47my part you do your part
38:49together we'll come to a
38:50greater understanding what
38:51God has spoken what he
38:52God has spoken we want to
38:53know what he has said so
38:54know God's word and lastly
38:57is endure sound teaching
38:59that word sound in the New
39:01Testament when you see
39:01sound teaching it means
39:02healthy healthy teaching
39:04things that allow your
39:05soul to grow and
39:06understanding of who God
39:07is and what God has done
39:08and the promises made to
39:09us you grow in that so
39:12endure sound teaching and
39:14when you hear false
39:15teaching move quickly away
39:16from it fill your life with
39:18the word of God to be
39:19able to live out your
39:20faith daily in this
39:22hostile word centers
39:24around the word it's his
39:27word to us that we know
39:28this well enough that when
39:31time comes and you're just
39:32crying out you know to
39:34whom you want to cry out
39:35to and you know what he
39:36has promised let's pray
39:38father thank you thank you
39:40for Paul and his his his
39:42importance of teaching and
39:43preaching the word of God
39:44your word he wanted people
39:47to know you he wanted
39:48people to understand you
39:49because he knew that you
39:50are the one that give
39:51them hope you are the
39:53one that's going to carry
39:54them along when they
39:55can't walk on their own
39:56who gives them strength
39:57so while he knew that
39:59that's why it wasn't his
40:00word that was so important
40:00was your word he wanted
40:02to preach so thank you
40:03thank you that you have
40:04given us your word and we
40:05can know you both
40:07knowledge head and
40:08experiential knowledge day
40:10by day living out our
40:11faith that your word is
40:13true and we stand for
40:15truth in Jesus name amen
40:17you
40:18you
