00:00Beloved, we live in an age of deep confusion where truth is negotiable, doctrine is despised,
00:06and popularity is mistaken for blessing.
00:10In such a time, we must not be surprised when professing Christian groups that once stood
00:15on the truth begin to drift and ultimately fall.
00:20The tragedy is not merely that they collapse, but that they do so slowly, subtly, and deceptively.
00:27What begins as a hunger for revival can turn into a rejection of Scripture.
00:32What starts as a desire for spiritual power can lead to emotional manipulation.
00:38And before long, a group that once claimed to follow Christ ends up denying Him, not in
00:44word but in practice.
00:47Scripture is painfully clear on this.
00:50The Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying
00:55attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, 1 Timothy 4.1.
01:02The fall doesn't come overnight.
01:04It comes when the church stops loving the truth and starts entertaining lies.
01:09This is not about finger pointing, it's about warning.
01:13Because deception doesn't just happen to others, it can happen to us if we are not anchored
01:17in the Word of God.
01:19Let us heed the warning now while there is still time to stand firm.
01:241.
01:25Departure from sound doctrine is always the first step toward deception.
01:28One of the clearest patterns in Scripture is that spiritual deception begins with a departure
01:33from truth, not all at once but by degrees.
01:38Paul warned Timothy, the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but wanting
01:44to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance with
01:48their own desires, 2 Timothy 4.3.
01:53The fall of any Christian group begins not with moral failure or heresy, but with a subtle
01:59erosion of doctrinal conviction.
02:02When a ministry or movement begins to loosen its grip on the authority of Scripture, it paves
02:07the way for subjective experience, cultural accommodation, or even mystical revelation to take its place.
02:13What follows is inevitable.
02:16Truth is redefined, sin is minimized, and Christ is no longer central.
02:22No revival, no outpouring, no popularity can replace the centrality of Scripture.
02:28God's Word is sufficient, 2 Timothy 3.16-17, it is inerrant, authoritative, and eternally relevant.
02:37The moment a group begins to question that by adding new visions, downplaying doctrine, or
02:43elevating personality above exegesis, they are already walking the path of deception.
02:50The fall never starts with a loud rebellion, it starts with a quiet compromise.
02:55The church must be anchored to the unchanging Word of God, or it will drift into the storm
03:00of error and be swept away.
03:022.
03:03False teachers rise from within, not just without.
03:07Scripture is not vague on this point.
03:08It is emphatic.
03:09It is emphatic.
03:10The most dangerous threats to the church do not come from outside, but from within.
03:16Paul, addressing the Ephesian elders, warned,
03:19From among your own selves, men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples
03:25after them .
03:28False teachers often begin as insiders, respected, influential, persuasive.
03:34They don't announce their departure from truth, they subtly twist it.
03:39They blend Scripture with error, truth with poison.
03:42They exploit emotional language, spiritual ambition, and the desire for relevance.
03:48And in time, entire groups are led away, not from church attendance, but from sound doctrine.
03:54Jude writes of these deceivers as hidden reefs in your love feasts .
04:00They look the part, they speak the language, they may even preach from the Bible, but their
04:05goal is not to exalt Christ.
04:07It is to exalt themselves.
04:10They creep in unnoticed, Jude 4, and distort the grace of God.
04:16Every Christian group must be vigilant.
04:19Just because a leader quotes Scripture or speaks of Jesus does not mean they are faithful.
04:24We must test everything by the Word, 1 John 4, 1.
04:28A fall begins when we stop discerning and start following charisma over character and personality
04:35over principle.
04:363.
04:38Emotionalism and experience cannot replace truth.
04:41It is a dangerous thing when a Christian group begins to prioritize emotional experiences
04:45above the clear teaching of Scripture.
04:49Yet this is precisely how many movements begin their decline, by shifting from a theology of
04:54truth to a culture of feelings.
04:57God created emotion, but He never intended it to govern our understanding of truth.
05:04Feelings fluctuate, experiences vary, only the Word of God stands forever, Isaiah 48.
05:12When a group becomes obsessed with spiritual highs, visions, prophetic impressions, or manifestations
05:18of power rather than the steady, sanctifying work of the Word, it will soon abandon sound
05:24doctrine.
05:25The Corinthians fell into this error.
05:28They had every spiritual gift imaginable, yet Paul rebuked them for being spiritually immature,
05:331 Corinthians 3, 1.
05:35Why?
05:36Because they had confused the presence of gifts with the approval of God.
05:42Personal experiences are not evidence of faithfulness, truth is.
05:46Jesus warned that many will say, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name?
05:52And He will say, I never knew You, Matthew 7, 22-23.
05:58A group may be full of activity and passion, but still be deceived if they are not grounded
06:03in Scripture.
06:05Emotion must never lead theology.
06:07Experience must never overrule truth.
06:09The Christian life is lived by faith in what God has said, not by chasing what we feel.
06:15For a group that ceases to exalt Christ will soon exalt itself.
06:19The ultimate test of any Christian group is not its popularity, creativity, or momentum,
06:26but its devotion to the glory of Christ.
06:30The Holy Spirit's role is to exalt Christ, John 16, 14.
06:36Any group that stops doing that is no longer functioning as the true church.
06:41When Christ is no longer central, something else will take His place, a leader, a vision,
06:46a program, a movement, and slowly a ministry that began in faith becomes a platform for pride.
06:54What began with Christ is now about performance.
06:57The name above every name is replaced with human names, brands, or personalities.
07:03This was the problem in the church at Corinth.
07:06Some said, I follow Paul, others, I follow Apollos, and others, I follow Cephas .
07:15Paul rebuke them for this division because no Christian group exists to magnify men.
07:21Christ must increase, we must decrease, John 3, 30.
07:26When a group falls, it is often because it becomes more about the people involved than
07:30the person of Christ.
07:33Theology becomes shallow, worship becomes man-centered, preaching becomes soft, and slowly the glory
07:39departs, not in an instant but over time.
07:43The church must fix its eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith .
07:49When He is no longer central, a fall is inevitable.
07:52The true church is marked by perseverance in the truth, not popularity.
07:58In a world obsessed with numbers, size, and visibility, many Christian groups have confused
08:03popularity with faithfulness.
08:06But Scripture is clear.
08:07The path of truth is narrow, and those who walk it are few, Matthew 7, 14.
08:14True believers are marked not by charisma or cultural success, but by perseverance in
08:19the truth.
08:20Jesus said, if you continue in My Word, then you are truly disciples of Mine, John 8, 31.
08:29That's the test.
08:30Not how many follow you, but how firmly you follow Him.
08:34When a group falls, it is often because they pursue the crowd more than they pursue Christ.
08:40They soften their message, compromise their doctrine, and reshape their mission to be more
08:45appealing.
08:47But in doing so, they trade truth for applause, and they lose both.
08:52The church at Sardis had a reputation for being alive, but was spiritually dead .
09:00Christ does not measure success the way man does.
09:04Faithfulness to the Word, perseverance through trials, and loyalty to Christ.
09:09These are the marks of the true church.
09:12Every group must decide, will we pursue faithfulness or fame?
09:16Will we stay the course when it's unpopular?
09:19The true church endures in truth no matter the cost, because Christ is worth it.
