00:01Okay, obviously, I'm Sai Marie, and yesterday you guys saw me make a video going off about
00:07a very serious situation that is happening in the activist space.
00:10I have written an article that I am going to read to you all now.
00:16This is called Standing with Simona Bearcub, Why Community Safety and Accountability Matter.
00:25You can read this on my vocal if you would like to see the original article for yourself.
00:31In the digital age, community advocacy often happens at the intersection of vulnerability and courage.
00:38When leaders within marginalized communities speak up about safety concerns,
00:43they aren't just sharing information.
00:45They are performing a vital service to protect others.
00:48Currently, advocate Simona Bearcub has taken a firm stand regarding public safety and accountability,
00:54and it is a stance that deserves both attention and support.
00:59Here's some information about my dear friend and comrade, Simona Bearcub,
01:03who has participated in countless advocacy and activist campaigns alongside myself and many others for many years.
01:10She is a person I've known for nearly a decade, and when she calls something out,
01:15she never does so without ensuring that her findings are found correct and with lots of evidence.
01:19Simona and I worked closely to help Antonio Kamak with the Bring the Chanel Home campaign
01:24to bring awareness and ensure that a Native child was returned to her tribe.
01:30Simona has advocated for and saved countless lives in the near decade I've known her.
01:36Simona Bearcub is a Portland-based Afro-Indigenous activist, community organizer, and a land defender.
01:42A member of the Fort Peck, Asi, Nibon, and Sioux tribes.
01:47They are known for their advocacy in several social justice spheres,
01:51particularly regarding Indigenous sovereignty and queer liberation.
01:55Simona has been a prominent voice in movements such as the MMIWG2S,
01:59that is, the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People,
02:03Reproductive Rights, and Land Defense.
02:05Simona has worked with organizations like MMIWUSA
02:09and served as a multicultural equity and inclusion advocate at Portland Community College.
02:15Simona frequently appears as a guest and a speaker on platforms like
02:18Indigenous Action Podcast and Native America Calling,
02:22discussing topics like Indigenous anarchism,
02:24queering the MMIWG2S narrative,
02:27and the challenges of enforcing the Indian Child Welfare Act.
02:31Simona identifies as queer, two-spirit, and an anarchist.
02:35Simona is often recognized for a sovereign and unapologetic stance
02:38against settler colonialism and their dedication to grassroots community defense.
02:44In addition to public speaking,
02:46Simona has been involved in countless direct actions,
02:48such as supporting Shoshone and Paiute elders
02:50at the Winnemucca Indian Colony to protect homes from demolition.
02:55Simona is widely recognized in the Pacific Northwest
02:57for their efforts to uplift marginalized voices
03:00and protect community members through both advocacy and mutual aid.
03:03We must recognize the importance of truth and transparency.
03:08The core of this conversation surrounds the transparency of public figures.
03:12Simona Bearcub has recently highlighted documentation
03:15and public records concerning individual online known as
03:18At Uncaged Christy, Dr. Christy Perez.
03:22In my original article, you can see the indictment for yourself.
03:26The information brought forward involves serious allegations
03:29and links to registered sex offender status,
03:32records that are a matter of public safety.
03:35In any community, but especially those that have historically faced
03:38systemic violence and erasure,
03:40the ability to vet those in position of influence
03:42is not just a preference, it is a necessity.
03:45When receipts and public registries are shared,
03:48it is not an act of malice, it is an act of communal care.
03:51If you're not supporting Simona Bearcub through this,
03:55you are on the wrong side of history.
03:58And you may as well just go to the predator camp
04:01because there's no difference between you
04:02and anyone else who is apologetic toward any sort of a sex offender.
04:08Advocacy is often a thankless and a high-risk endeavor.
04:12Those who step forward to point out potential dangers
04:14often face backlash, silencing tactics, or personal attacks.
04:18Supporting Simona in this moment means
04:20activists should always prioritize the safety of fellow allies.
04:24Acknowledging that the safety of the collective
04:26outweighs the comfort of an individual
04:28with a documented history of harm.
04:30Upholding accountability is mandatory in any space
04:33where we are dealing with the victims of sexual abuse
04:35and human trafficking.
04:37The perpetrator's feelings do not supersede
04:39the victim's need for protection and advocacy, ever.
04:43We must recognize that individuals,
04:45regardless of their professional titles or their online persona,
04:48must be held accountable for their past actions
04:50and the transparency of their current status.
04:53Protecting the vulnerable is the number one duty of any real activist.
04:57Ensuring that spaces both online and off remain safe
04:59for those who look to community leaders for guidance and support
05:02is critical to any movement.
05:05When someone comes showing receipts,
05:07we have a duty to protect them,
05:09ensure the space is clear to the perpetrator,
05:11the predator, that is, immediately.
05:14In the case of Dr. Christy Perez,
05:17the documentation provided via public records
05:19and social media highlights serves as a warning.
05:21Public sex offender registries exist for a specific reason,
05:25to provide citizens with the information necessary
05:27to make informed decisions about their safety
05:30and the safety of their families.
05:31By bringing these records to light,
05:34Simona Bearcub is ensuring that the community
05:35has the full context of who they are engaging with.
05:38We must stand with those who dare speak uncomfortable truths.
05:43Solidarity with Simona Bearcub is more than just a gesture.
05:46It is a commitment to a standard where safety is non-negotiable
05:49and transparency is mandatory.
05:50When we support advocates who prioritize the protection of the community,
05:55we build a foundation where everyone can exist
05:57without the shadow of undisclosed harm.
05:59It is time to listen, to look at the evidence provided,
06:02and to stand firmly on the side of accountability.
06:05If you do not denounce Christy Perez today,
06:08you are not a true activist.
06:10You are a performative activist
06:12who is endangering every single person in this movement,
06:15and you need to quit immediately.
