01:46So Full of July obviously is like the entire weekend.
01:49People tend to just party from Friday up until the Sunday.
01:55In Peabody County, 4th of July is usually a really good time.
01:59It's a very patriotic holiday, hence all the red, white and blue and the blown up.
02:11A lot of parties, a lot of hot dogs, cookouts, calls about fireworks, calls about DUIs.

02:22This is my first time working the 4th of July.
02:24I'm kind of excited, kind of nervous to see how the night pans out because I've heard

02:36My biggest advantage working in the San Javier district is that I grew up in this area and
02:40I know a lot of these streets.
02:44One of the more unique challenges in this district is we cover a lot of ground.

17:31she pushed him away he's now walking north now i'm going to check a couple spots and if we're lucky
17:38maybe we'll be able to pick this dude up unfortunately the guy was able to get away
17:46as time keeps passing the more likely as this person's getting further and further away and
17:51we mower and then likely won't catch them we gotta try especially since uh he's strong
17:56armed with an elderly circle k clerk just trying to do her job 10 35 please

20:15He's not going to go rob another Circle K.
20:18But it was a little bit more of an eventful night than I thought it was going to be.

20:53I mean I'm the butt of a lot of jokes anyway but for the 4th of July they tend
20:59to happen a lot more often and you know be like oh we're celebrating the day we
21:05we destroyed you guys and poured your tea in the harbor. Well I don't really
21:10take anything to heart but because they're proud to be American and proud
21:15that they know defeated the British and did all their good stuff just like silly
21:25banter and stuff like that nothing too serious. So somebody's called about an
21:35address playing loud music we're looking for a lot of cars in the street parked
21:38in front of a specific house I roll the windows down slow roll and just try and
21:42figure out I don't know where it's coming from

23:18drive into the district that's when I start looking for crime occurring rather
23:24than going to call the call to call we do our best to stay visible to the
23:31public by driving through these rural areas driving through the industrial
23:35areas been to a few robberies where it's business and those are always pretty
23:49scary there was one night that another deputy had driven past a business and
23:55he had seen this truck outside you saw this guy leave from like a back area of
24:01the business and jump inside the truck he had tried to make a traffic stop on the
24:06truck and it ended up taking off from him
24:10survey copies we're active surveillance luckily we had our air unit available that
24:18night and the airplane was able to keep eyes on the truck
24:30I'm just right on his tail
24:49I start chasing after the guy through the desert kicking off the crazy
24:54amount of dust you're just on high alert and have your head on a swivel trying
24:59to find this person that maybe has a gun
25:10you're always on high alert when chasing after somebody that they may ambush you

25:28our air unit was still overhead so it's kind of like having a backup unit that's just watching

25:38eventually it comes up to this concrete tunnel of where this road is at the other deputies show
25:45up and they're on the opposite side of the tunnel

25:5210-0 with the uh crossfire there's someone entering the tunnel on the west end

25:58the pilot can see that i'm in a dangerous situation they're not only possibly pointing guns at the suspect
26:06but they are 100 pointing their guns at me immediately the pilot gets on the radio
26:11and tells them you need to get to the other side

26:48we end up finding out that he had burglarized businesses in the past and stolen that truck
27:05without the help of the pilot and the air unit at that time
27:09i think it would have put us in a very dangerous situation where i could have potentially got shot
27:14but obviously i didn't very blessed in that sense
27:29so it's the fourth of july and it's the start of my shift
27:33a lot of people are going to be out at parties tonight
27:35they're going to be drinking at bars they're going to be celebrating the holiday
27:39and sadly that means that several of them will get behind the wheel
27:44so tonight we're going to go up to our foothills district
27:47so this is going to be kind of the northwest side of tucson
27:52a lot of residential areas
27:54a lot of bars and a lot of parties are likely to take place up in this area
28:02so we're going to try to get out do some enforcement up here
28:04but of course as we get called out to other incidents around the county

35:34he's in custody.
35:34The medical personnel responded out,
35:36and they were able to clear him medically,
35:38and we're just gonna be doing an investigation
35:40into possible drug use and intoxication.

37:32He requested a backup unit and put over the radio that the subjects in the vehicle had a gun.
37:37It was a very short transmission, so we're not sure what we're dealing with.
37:42And it sounded like he needed a backup unit pretty quick.
37:47It's a crime in the state of Arizona to not disclose weapons when contacted by law enforcement.
