00:00Well, I trust that the Lord may bless us as we turn to his word.
00:04I direct you now to 2 Kings chapter 22, and we shall commence our reading
00:09and have a brief word of prayer from verse 15 of 2 Kings 22.
00:16And she said, that is, Hilda, unto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel,
00:21Tell the man that sent you to me, Thus saith the Lord, Behold,
00:26I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof,
00:31even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read.
00:36Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods,
00:41that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands,
00:47therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.
00:54But to the king of Judah, who has sent you to inquire of the Lord,
00:58thus shall you say to him, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel,
01:04as touching the words which thou hast heard,
01:06because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the Lord,
01:13when thou heardest what I spake against this place,
01:17and against the inhabitants thereof,
01:19that they should become a desolation, and a curse,
01:25and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me.
01:29I also have heard thee, saith the Lord.
01:32Behold, therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers,
01:36and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace.
01:41And thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place,
01:46and be brought.
01:47And they brought the king word again.
01:51Chapter 23, verse 1.
01:53And the king sent, and they gathered unto him all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
01:58And the king went up into the house of the Lord.
02:02And all the men of Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him,
02:05and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great.
02:10And he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant,
02:15which was found in the house of the Lord.
02:18And the king stood by a pillar, made a covenant before the Lord,
02:23to walk after the Lord, to keep his commandments,
02:26and his testimonies, and his statutes,
02:29with all their heart and all their soul,
02:32to perform the words of this covenant
02:35that were written in this book.
02:37And all the people stood to the covenant.
02:42Shall we pray?
02:44Our Father, as we look into your word this evening,
02:46we pray that thy spirit may grant us wisdom,
02:49that thy spirit may quicken thy word in our own hearts and souls,
02:52that the risen Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
02:55would truly be magnified above all,
02:56that all praise, honor, and glory be unto thee.
03:00Undertake for those who are of special needs this night.
03:03We just commend them to your care.
03:04And pray, Father, as your word goes forth,
03:06that it would be indeed a blessing, a help,
03:08and a word of encouragement to your people.
03:11And a word of salvation to the lost,
03:12that they may come, if it so please thee,
03:14to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.
03:18Father, we thank you for the freedom and privilege we have
03:21to look into your word, to hear it,
03:23and we pray that thy Holy Spirit
03:25may bless it to our hearts and souls even this day.
03:28In Christ's name we pray.
03:30Amen.
03:35With Reformation Day coming quick upon us,
03:39it seems appropriate to hear some Martin Luther quotes.
03:44It's a day of quotes.
03:47First one.
03:48From the beginning of my Reformation,
03:51I have asked God
03:53to send me neither dreams,
03:55nor visions,
03:57nor angels,
03:58but to give me
04:00the right understanding of his word,
04:02the Holy Scriptures,
04:04where as long as I have God's word,
04:07I know
04:07that I am walking in his way,
04:10and that I shall not fall
04:12into any error
04:14or delusion.
04:17End quote.
04:17Another by Martin Luther,
04:21the Reformer.
04:23Quote,
04:24I am afraid
04:25that the schools
04:26will prove
04:27the very gates of hell
04:29unless they diligently
04:31labor
04:32in explaining
04:33the Holy Scriptures
04:34and in braving them
04:37in the heart
04:38of the youth.
04:42Good thing he's a Reformer,
04:44not a prophet.
04:46Another,
04:47perhaps one more quote,
04:48a familiar one,
04:50Luther said,
04:50my conscience
04:51is captive
04:52to
04:53the word of God.
04:56And I can never
04:57read that
04:58or
04:58say it
04:59without asking the question,
05:01what is your conscience
05:02captive to?
05:03Well,
05:04the wake-up call
05:05went from Germany
05:06around the world
05:07throughout the ages
05:08after Martin Luther
05:10hammered in place
05:11the 95 Theses
05:13on the Wittenberg door
05:14in 1517 A.D.
05:19Tonight,
05:19we reflect upon
05:21another Reformation
05:22which occurred
05:23under Josiah's reign.
05:25Turn with me,
05:26if you're not there already,
05:27in 2 Kings chapter 22,
05:29and we will get
05:30underway.
05:31As we consider
05:32the Reformation
05:33during the days
05:34of the King Josiah
05:35from about
05:36640 to
05:39609 B.C.,
05:41well,
05:41we find some
05:42rather intriguing
05:43elements.
05:45First of all,
05:47well,
05:47before that,
05:48I should mention this.
05:49Chapter 22
05:49and 23
05:50can seem rather
05:52complex,
05:53There's a lot
05:54of information
05:55in it
05:56and a lot
05:57of sermons,
05:57I guess,
05:58but it's really
05:59simple.
06:00I know,
06:00let's put it this way.
06:02Something was lost,
06:04it was found,
06:05and it had
06:06a tremendous
06:07impact
06:09on everything.
06:11Well,
06:11not quite,
06:12but especially
06:13for Josiah
06:13and his generation,
06:15his people.
06:16Well,
06:17you'll see
06:17as we go along.
06:18And those two chapters
06:19cover that statement.
06:20I mean,
06:21it can be summed up
06:22like that.
06:22Well,
06:23let's get underway
06:23and not
06:26get excited for that.
06:27So,
06:28first of all,
06:28we note then
06:29there are,
06:30there is a return.
06:32There is a return
06:33to the word of God.
06:35And here we'll pick it up
06:36in the first few verses,
06:37but just to note
06:38verse 8,
06:39the Hilkiah,
06:40the high priest,
06:41said unto Shaphan,
06:43the scribe,
06:44I have found
06:44the book of the law
06:45in the house
06:46of the Lord.
06:49Did you ever hear
06:50the Bible getting lost
06:51in the church?
06:52Were you ever hear
06:53of someone
06:54come to a church
06:55and he's fighting
06:55to speak?
06:56He's going,
06:56all right,
06:57you know,
06:57open your scriptures now.
06:58Of course,
06:59you've got phones
06:59and all this
07:00a little different now.
07:01But nevertheless,
07:02the Bible?
07:04Hmm.
07:06And here,
07:06what do we have?
07:07Disposed people
07:08of God.
07:10Anyway,
07:11the book is lost.
07:12Now they found it,
07:14but let's back up
07:15a little bit here.
07:16From verses 3 to 6,
07:17we basically have
07:18repair,
07:19repair becomes priority.
07:21You kind of wonder,
07:22well,
07:23what's going on here?
07:24But,
07:25and I wish
07:26there was time,
07:26but nevertheless,
07:27you think of his mother,
07:30Jediah.
07:32She must have been
07:32a gaudy woman.
07:34You know,
07:34you think of this young guy,
07:36you know,
07:36verse 1,
07:36he was 8 years old
07:37when he began to reign.
07:39She probably had
07:39good counselors,
07:40but that's a whole
07:41other story.
07:42But anyway,
07:43this repair goes on,
07:44turning attention then
07:45to the temple
07:46to bring things
07:47to proper order
07:48and so forth
07:48like this
07:49and so they carry on
07:50and they are found,
07:51as the scripture says,
07:52to deal faithfully
07:53there in verse 7
07:55and so the scriptures
07:57are found in this activity.
07:59A stirring to do right,
08:01kind of mysterious in a way,
08:03but it's the activity
08:03of God,
08:04really,
08:05isn't it?
08:06And furthermore,
08:06we notice then
08:07a recovery is made
08:09which appears important.
08:10Basically,
08:11the scriptures,
08:12the word of God,
08:13as the scribe says,
08:13have found the book
08:14of the law
08:15in the house
08:16of the Lord.
08:17And there's a bit
08:18of various views
08:19on what that is,
08:20portions of Deuteronomy,
08:21probably the books
08:22of Moses,
08:23the first five there,
08:24but nevertheless,
08:25and it's important,
08:26I think,
08:27that stress is given there.
08:28Well,
08:29I would say so,
08:30the book of the law
08:32because with the law,
08:33Deuteronomy,
08:34the second giving
08:35of the law
08:35is the threats
08:37that come with it,
08:38both in Leviticus 26
08:40and Deuteronomy 28.
08:43Tremendous reading
08:45I'll say that again.
08:47Tremendous reading
08:48you don't want to do.
08:49It's sort of like
08:50Romans chapter one
08:52and it deals with
08:55really heavy things,
08:56but it's good
08:57for the heart
08:58and to do it
08:59every so often,
09:00I would say.
09:01Well,
09:01anyway,
09:02they come across
09:03this book,
09:03it's recovered
09:04and a sense of importance,
09:06I guess,
09:07comes to him
09:07and the report
09:09is relayed
09:09to the authority
09:11that is the king
09:12in verse 10.
09:14Notice what we read there.
09:16It says,
09:16And Shaphan the scribe
09:17showed the king
09:18saying,
09:18Hilkiah the priest.
09:20Don't you find this
09:21odd,
09:23unusual?
09:24Here's the priest,
09:26the scribe,
09:27these people
09:27who should know
09:29better.
09:31They're operating
09:32religiously
09:33without proper
09:34instructions
09:36if they're actually
09:37doing their job.
09:38But anyway,
09:39so Hilkiah the priest,
09:40sorry about that,
09:41we're getting
09:41sidetracked,
09:42has delivered me
09:43a book.
09:44So he brings it
09:44to the king.
09:45Shaphan read it
09:46before the king.
09:47So,
09:48the word of God
09:49is opened up,
09:50expounded,
09:51made known,
09:52read.
09:53Hmm.
09:54A reading is made
09:56and a response
09:57occurs.
09:58The hearing
09:59of the word
10:00of God.
10:01Key element,
10:02isn't it?
10:03And for us
10:03specifically,
10:04as the scriptures
10:04do unfold for us,
10:06we see the power
10:07of the spirit of God,
10:08quickening that word,
10:09the coming of the
10:10Lord Jesus Christ,
10:11his death upon the
10:12cross,
10:13rising from the dead,
10:14dying on the cross
10:15for the sins
10:15of a people
10:16and that he promised
10:17he would send
10:18the comforter to come,
10:19the spirit of God,
10:20the very one
10:21who has given us
10:22the word of God,
10:23the law of God.
10:25Amazing.
10:26You know,
10:26it's almost like
10:27a full circle
10:28if you want to put it
10:28that way.
10:29But the activity
10:29of God the Father,
10:31God the Son,
10:32God the Holy Spirit.
10:33Touching upon history
10:35then,
10:35history now,
10:37history in the future
10:38if you want to put it
10:38that way.
10:39Good thing to keep
10:40in mind.
10:41And so we're doing
10:42certain things,
10:43the fathers and so forth.
10:44Well,
10:44one of the worst,
10:45if not the worst,
10:47Manasseh,
10:48the king,
10:49was so wicked
10:50just prior to the
10:52reign of Josiah,
10:54you see.
10:54And so you can
10:55understand how
10:56these things
10:57kind of happened
10:58or the word
10:59disappeared.
11:00Well,
11:00we better move along here.
11:01So we mentioned
11:02about a response.
11:03So we noted briefly
11:04then that there is
11:06a return to the
11:07word of God.
11:08Essential.
11:09Furthermore,
11:10there is a repentance
11:11that is heartfelt.
11:14A heartfelt repentance.
11:1711 and following,
11:18notice the king,
11:19it is right before the king,
11:21end of 10,
11:21verse 11,
11:22it came to pass
11:23when the king
11:23had heard the words
11:24of the book
11:25of the law.
11:26In deep grief,
11:28he ripped his clothes.
11:29It was an outward sign
11:31of this deep-seated grief
11:33and repentance
11:33going on
11:34and it was a picture
11:36that really declared
11:37the interior state.
11:40It is initiated
11:42upon hearing
11:43of the word
11:45of God.
11:46Is it a little wonder
11:47then?
11:48You think,
11:48how come people,
11:49you know,
11:49aren't reading the Bibles
11:50every day
11:51and as much as they can?
11:52They hate God.
11:54They hate his word.
11:55It dictates to them
11:57quite clearly
11:58what is right,
11:58what is wrong.
12:01And he sent his son,
12:02Jesus Christ,
12:03the righteous one,
12:04well,
12:05to show us how to live.
12:06Not only that,
12:06but to tell us too.
12:07But not only that,
12:08also,
12:09he sent the power
12:09and enabled us
12:10to do it
12:11through the power
12:12of the Holy Spirit.
12:13And so,
12:14the hearing of the word of God,
12:15the unfolding
12:16or the opening
12:16of the scriptures,
12:17he's just simply
12:18reading them
12:19and it's a blessing
12:20to my heart.
12:20It may sound
12:21the strangest thing
12:22in the world,
12:22but it's a blessing
12:23to my heart
12:23when people say,
12:24well,
12:25I'm reading the Bible,
12:25I hear it right,
12:26I don't get it.
12:27Why?
12:28Because they're
12:29a wonderful opportunity
12:30to call on God
12:31to be in the scriptures,
12:32Lord,
12:33teach me
12:33that you know
12:35your teacher is true
12:36because he is
12:37the Almighty.
12:40I know there's
12:41good teachers around
12:42and you trust them
12:43and so forth
12:43kind of thing,
12:44but priority is
12:45to know
12:46when death comes
12:47or the judgment
12:48of God falls,
12:49you are just standing
12:50there alone
12:51before him.
12:54And Josiah
12:54seems to get
12:55the message.
12:57Anyway,
12:58it is the hearing
12:58of the word
12:59as we note
12:59here in 10 and 11,
13:01but also too,
13:02to note this,
13:03that it is deeply
13:03personal.
13:04We touched upon
13:05this morning,
13:05but verse 11
13:07shows us
13:07the deep grief there.
13:09Glance at verse 19,
13:11whereas the assessment
13:12from God comes,
13:13because thine heart
13:15was tender.
13:16The assessment
13:17of God
13:17through Hilda
13:18the prophetess,
13:19she says,
13:20because thine heart
13:21was tender,
13:22submissive
13:23before God,
13:24that thou hast
13:25humbled thyself
13:25before the Lord
13:27when thou heardest
13:28what I spake
13:29against this place.
13:31Hmm.
13:32Humbled himself,
13:34cried out to God,
13:36knows his mercy.
13:38How do we know?
13:39Because what he says
13:40in verse 20,
13:40near there,
13:41that he'll go
13:42to his grave
13:43in peace.
13:45Hmm.
13:46Well,
13:47furthermore,
13:48I'll draw your attention
13:48then to,
13:49well,
13:5012 and 13 there,
13:51but the word
13:51is received,
13:53that is believed,
13:54and confirmation
13:54is sought.
13:57I don't know about you,
13:58but have you ever
13:59read the scriptures,
14:00come to a saving
14:00knowledge of Christ,
14:01and said,
14:02wow,
14:03I've never known
14:04this before.
14:06How do I know
14:07I'm not going crazy?
14:09Heh.
14:10Maybe that never
14:10entered your mind.
14:11But what happens?
14:13This has been going on
14:14through the centuries.
14:15So you look
14:16to the Reformation.
14:18Whom was God
14:19blessing as the word
14:20went forth.
14:22Oh,
14:23they're reading it
14:24the same way
14:24as the Lord
14:25is saying in his word
14:26now.
14:27Oh,
14:28I see.
14:29So you come
14:29into a stream
14:30or a line
14:31that was always there,
14:33the word of God
14:34preserved,
14:35kept,
14:35that his people
14:36may know
14:36and hear
14:37and believe
14:38in the living God
14:39and enter that stream
14:41and continue on
14:42to make it known.
14:44And Josiah
14:45is just a part of that.
14:46And,
14:47well,
14:47the rest of us
14:48as we hear
14:49the word of God
14:49and believe.
14:50Notice the verse,
14:51well,
14:52it lands at verse 12.
14:53The king commanded
14:55Hilkiah the priest
14:56and Heikam the son
14:57of Shaphan.
14:58You know,
14:59you receive stuff,
15:00you don't just simply
15:00believe them.
15:02You know,
15:02it's the old story,
15:03you know,
15:03I got a piece of land
15:04down in the floor
15:05and it's great,
15:05it's on,
15:06you know,
15:06and I'll sell it to you
15:07for so much
15:08and it's under swamp,
15:09it's nowhere.
15:10You know,
15:10you don't believe them,
15:11you check it out.
15:13And so what does he do?
15:14Well,
15:14let's read on.
15:15Verse 12,
15:16well,
15:16he says,
15:17Shaphan the scribe
15:18and Isaiah,
15:19a servant of the king,
15:20saying,
15:20go ye inquire,
15:22verse 13,
15:23of the Lord.
15:26Go find out from God.
15:28How do you do that?
15:29God always had
15:31his spokespeople,
15:32his prophets,
15:33and then in this case
15:34prophetess.
15:35Again,
15:35just a reminder
15:36from 2 Peter,
15:37how all of that works,
15:39it might be a great mystery
15:40to us,
15:40but nevertheless,
15:41it's a very clear mystery.
15:43I'm reading from
15:442 Peter chapter 1
15:47and I'll pick it up
15:48at verse 20.
15:49Knowing this first,
15:50that no prophecy
15:51of the scripture
15:52is of any private
15:53interpretation.
15:55It's not just invented
15:56by men,
15:57it comes from God.
15:58Notice what he says
15:58in verse 21,
15:59where the prophecy
16:00came not,
16:01the word of God,
16:02in old time
16:03by the will of man,
16:05but holy men of God,
16:07you might include here
16:08women if you think
16:08you've healed it,
16:09but nevertheless,
16:09but the holy men of God
16:12spake as they were moved
16:14by the Holy Ghost.
16:16God the Father,
16:17God the Son,
16:19God the Holy Spirit,
16:20or the Holy Ghost.
16:22Hmm.
16:23See,
16:23you enter,
16:24or you hear the word of God,
16:26you've entered
16:26the presence of God.
16:30Simply put,
16:31what is your response?
16:32What is your reaction?
16:33You're doing these things
16:35before Almighty,
16:37the Almighty,
16:38the true and living God.
16:40Well,
16:41another aspect here,
16:43this confirmation reveals
16:44an aspect of God's ways.
16:47You know,
16:47just glance at verse 15.
16:49She said unto him,
16:51this is all that the prophet,
16:52prophetess,
16:54verse 15,
16:55she said unto them,
16:56Thus saith the Lord God
16:57of Israel,
17:00the living God,
17:01the Almighty,
17:02Jehovah,
17:03and then he said,
17:05she says this,
17:05Tell the man
17:06that sent you to me,
17:08hmm,
17:08this is from God.
17:11God's word comes to him,
17:13and the report she gives,
17:15he hears,
17:15and so forth.
17:16But I just want to point that out,
17:18and basically,
17:19she is speaking on behalf of God.
17:22But I just want to remind you
17:24of a text we noted
17:24in the recent past
17:25from Jeremiah,
17:28concerning God,
17:29his ways,
17:30and so forth.
17:30And that's Jeremiah chapter 10.
17:32And I'm just going to read verse 10,
17:34kind of out of context,
17:37so to speak.
17:37But nevertheless,
17:38you get the picture
17:39from the text itself
17:40in Jeremiah 10,
17:41verse 10.
17:42But the Lord
17:43is the true God.
17:46He is the living God.
17:49And his word is living,
17:50too,
17:50through the power of his spirit.
17:52And an everlasting king,
17:56the rule,
17:57sovereignty.
17:58His wrath,
17:59and his wrath,
18:00the earth shall tremble.
18:02Even the,
18:03the creation is afraid of God.
18:06Who could say that?
18:07But you get the picture here.
18:09You know,
18:09the power of Almighty God.
18:11And his wrath,
18:11the earth shall tremble.
18:13And the nations,
18:14all nations,
18:15shall not be able,
18:16well,
18:17the unbelieving nations,
18:18the nations shall not be able
18:19to abide his indignation.
18:24Wow.
18:25You know,
18:25who would ever dream
18:26of wanting to meet
18:27an indignant
18:27Almighty God
18:29who is righteous,
18:30holy,
18:30and truthful?
18:32Well,
18:33anyway,
18:33that's an unanswerable question,
18:35I suppose.
18:36Well,
18:36we looked at that briefly.
18:38He confirms the message,
18:39basically.
18:40He gets it.
18:41He sees it.
18:41He believes it.
18:42He receives it.
18:43Let's move on
18:44to a third consideration.
18:45We know briefly
18:46that the Reformation elements,
18:48as we reflect upon it,
18:50there is a return
18:51to the word of God,
18:53precisely,
18:54and a repentance
18:55that is heartfelt.
18:57Deep-seated.
18:58Thirdly,
18:59a recognition
19:00of supreme dominion.
19:03A recognition
19:04of supreme dominion.
19:06And let me just state this,
19:08and this is simply me.
19:09I believe it is impossible
19:11for a created being,
19:13a human being,
19:14to see that.
19:16A recognition
19:17of supreme dominion
19:19apart from the grace
19:21of God
19:22and the moving
19:23of His Spirit
19:25and the revelation
19:26of His Word.
19:26But nevertheless,
19:27it is an aspect,
19:29I think,
19:29of true Reformation.
19:31Let's take a closer look
19:32at this.
19:33Verse 16.
19:34Notice what we read.
19:35Thus saith the Lord,
19:36Behold,
19:37I will bring evil
19:38upon this place.
19:41Who is going to do that?
19:43For God
19:44so loved the world.
19:46Almighty God.
19:49You see?
19:50And upon the inhabitants
19:51thereof,
19:52even all the words
19:53of the book
19:54which the king
19:55of Judah
19:55has read.
19:56Why?
19:57Because they have
19:58forsaken me
19:59and burned incense
20:01unto other gods.
20:04What's the immediate reaction?
20:05Oh, good.
20:06That was a long time ago.
20:07We don't worship
20:08false gods anymore.
20:09We don't build
20:10stone statues
20:11and bow down to them.
20:13No.
20:14Our statues
20:15are invisible.
20:17They're frameworks.
20:18They're structures
20:18like ideology
20:22or the dictate
20:25on how you should live
20:26without using
20:27the word religion.
20:30They will address
20:31questions such as
20:32where have you come from?
20:34And give a false answer.
20:36Because the true answer is
20:38you came from
20:39Almighty God
20:40who created all things
20:41and he sent his son
20:43Jesus Christ
20:43to die on a cross
20:44for your sins
20:45because of what Adam did.
20:47Huh.
20:48Simple, isn't it?
20:50But lies complicate.
20:52And once you start lying
20:55I don't know if you know
20:56much about Louis Lamar.
20:57Anyway,
20:58he's known as
20:59a Western writer
21:00and he wrote his stories
21:02because he asked him
21:03to when he was young
21:04and he needed money
21:05under the title
21:06or name of Tex Burns.
21:08And so then
21:10he became pretty good, right?
21:11Anyway,
21:13then the question
21:14would always come up
21:15when people saw him,
21:16visited him and so forth
21:17and he signed the books.
21:18Are you Tex Burns?
21:19You're Tex Burns?
21:20And he would deny it.
21:22He denied it
21:23in the beginning
21:24or as soon as that started
21:25and he kept it
21:26and his daughter
21:26kind of brought it out
21:27into the open.
21:29But in his mind
21:31as I understand it
21:32was simply
21:32it was for the cash.
21:35I needed the cash.
21:36Anyway,
21:37I was kind of sidetracked there
21:38but what was I?
21:40Or about this
21:42the true God
21:43and recognition
21:44of his supreme dominion
21:46once you begin
21:47down the wrong road
21:48is in that illustration
21:50kind of illustrates that.
21:51You keep on denying it.
21:53And so
21:53like
21:55Manasseh,
21:56the wicked king
21:56and then the denying
21:58of the true God
21:59and they persist.
22:00Now Josiah shows up
22:01and things will change.
22:05But I also want to note here too
22:07that from verse 16 there
22:10I'm not going to turn there
22:11but 1 Corinthians 10-11
22:13and Romans 15-4
22:14that's 1 Corinthians 10-11
22:17and Romans 15-4
22:18very strongly indicate
22:20that these things
22:21these writings
22:22from way back when
22:23are for
22:24our
22:25learning.
22:27Are we learning
22:29from them
22:29you see?
22:31Like
22:32it's just incredibly
22:33here sometimes
22:34you might hear somebody
22:35say or read it
22:36well I'm a New Testament
22:37Christian.
22:38They probably don't even
22:39understand what
22:40Christianity is.
22:41How can I say that?
22:43Because of those texts.
22:45It's the entire
22:47word of God
22:47revealed in the
22:49through the Lord Jesus Christ
22:50and the power of the Holy Spirit
22:51how we are to respond
22:53to Him.
22:54The Almighty God
22:56who keeps His word.
22:57Well let's move along
22:59a little further here.
23:00He remains
23:01ever consistent.
23:02He keeps His word.
23:05Again
23:06verse 16
23:06what does He say there?
23:09I
23:09will.
23:11The judgments
23:12have gone.
23:13And I mentioned earlier
23:13about Deuteronomy
23:14chapter
23:1428
23:15well maybe just to read
23:16a text out of that
23:17but just to remind us
23:19but in
23:2028
23:21in the beginning
23:22of the book
23:22or the chapter rather
23:23He speaks of
23:24do these things
23:25and the blessings
23:26will flow
23:27and fall
23:27upon you.
23:29Don't do them
23:30disregard them
23:31disobey
23:31and curses
23:33will follow.
23:34So I just want to
23:35read one text out of that.
23:36I'll read verse 15
23:37of Deuteronomy
23:38chapter 28
23:39It says
23:40But it shall come to pass
23:42if thou will not
23:44hearken unto the voice
23:45of the Lord
23:47thy God
23:48to observe
23:49to do all His commandments
23:50and His statutes
23:51which I command thee
23:52this day
23:52that all these
23:55curses
23:55shall come upon thee
23:58and overtake thee
23:59this is the God
24:00for God so loved
24:02the world
24:02He gave
24:03His only begotten Son
24:05the true God
24:06the living God
24:07anyway
24:08you can read further
24:08or not
24:09I encourage you to do so
24:10also read Leviticus 26
24:11His wrath
24:13does not
24:13negate
24:14His mercy
24:15look at our text
24:16verse 13
24:17of
24:212nd Kings 22
24:23verse 13
24:24Go inquire of the Lord
24:25He said
24:26He sends word
24:29for me
24:30and for the people
24:31and for all Judah
24:32concerning the words
24:33of the book
24:33that is found
24:34for great
24:35is the wrath
24:36of the Lord
24:37that is kindled
24:38against us
24:39because our fathers
24:40have not hearkened
24:41unto the words
24:42of this book
24:42to do according
24:44unto all that
24:45which is written
24:46concerning us
24:47so judgment is coming
24:47it's pending
24:48it's certain
24:49and what happens
24:50verse 19
24:51the word
24:52from the Lord
24:52to him
24:53to Messiah
24:53thine heart
24:54was tender
24:55thy mercy
24:56thou hast humbled
24:57thyself
24:58before the Lord
24:58so he knows
24:59the mercy
25:00of God
25:01his generation
25:02his time
25:03is
25:04spared
25:04shall we say
25:05let's just put it
25:06this way
25:07judgment
25:08confirmed
25:09but delayed
25:10hmm
25:12yeah
25:12that's for sure
25:13he
25:15is a covenant
25:17keeping God
25:18so likewise
25:19must
25:20his people
25:21be
25:22just notice
25:23the verse 20
25:23I will gather
25:25thee unto thy
25:25fathers
25:26and thou shalt
25:27be gathered
25:27unto thy
25:28grave
25:29in peace
25:29and thine eye
25:30shall not see
25:31all the evil
25:32which will bring
25:33the disaster
25:34which will bring
25:35upon this place
25:36this is just
25:37prior to the
25:37captivity
25:38of course
25:39I'll bring upon
25:40this place
25:41and he brought
25:42the king
25:42word again
25:44well even further
25:45notice in the
25:45latter part
25:46of verse 22
25:46uh 2
25:47verse 23
25:48chapter 23
25:49verse 2
25:50he says this
25:52and all the people
25:53both small and
25:53great
25:54and he read
25:55in the ears
25:56of the book
25:57all the words
25:58of the book
25:58of the covenant
25:59which was made
26:00in the house
26:01of the Lord
26:02is a covenant
26:03keeping God
26:05well very quickly
26:06I guess we must
26:07bring it to
26:08closure here
26:09our fourth
26:09consideration is
26:10this
26:10there is a
26:11restoration
26:12of true
26:13or if you want
26:14to put it
26:14biblical worship
26:15a restoration
26:16of true worship
26:17and here is 23
26:18and following
26:19um
26:21we read the
26:22text so I'm
26:23going to take
26:23in a sense
26:24a shortcut
26:24and kind of
26:25bring it right
26:26into where we
26:27are
26:27notice what it
26:28says the king
26:28sent there is
26:30an invitation
26:30now he's a king
26:31he may be
26:32give a commandment
26:32or whatever
26:33but I'm saying
26:34an invitation
26:35is sent forth
26:36verse 1
26:38you are hearing
26:39an invitation
26:39today to turn
26:40to God
26:41in the name
26:41of the Lord
26:42Jesus Christ
26:43to call upon
26:43him
26:44as the word
26:45goes forth
26:45that is always
26:46an invitation
26:47you see
26:49further
26:50those
26:50interested
26:51make an
26:52appearance
26:52notice in
26:53verse 2
26:54the king
26:55went up
26:55to the
26:55house
26:56of the
26:56Lord
26:56how many
26:58people are
26:58in church
26:58today
26:59across our
26:59nation
27:00around the
27:00world
27:01good question
27:02I can't
27:02answer it
27:03but you see
27:04the invitation
27:04goes forth
27:05right
27:05those interested
27:06make an
27:07appearance
27:07all the
27:08men of
27:08Judah
27:09all the
27:09inhabitants
27:09of Jerusalem
27:10the priests
27:12of course
27:12the prophets
27:13yes
27:13all the
27:14people
27:14both small
27:15and great
27:16down in
27:16others
27:16up in
27:17others
27:18so we
27:19hear the
27:19word of
27:20God
27:20the
27:20information
27:21that
27:22of what
27:23is to
27:23happen
27:23is given
27:24look at the
27:25latter part
27:25of verse 2
27:26the words
27:27of the
27:27covenant
27:28of the
27:28book
27:28you want
27:29to know
27:29what's
27:30going to
27:30happen
27:30read
27:31the
27:32scriptures
27:33judgment
27:34is coming
27:35sometime
27:37furthermore
27:37a covenant
27:39sound
27:40commitment
27:40if you want
27:41to use
27:41that term
27:42a covenant
27:42occurs
27:43inclusive
27:44of all
27:45verse 3
27:46the king
27:46stood by a
27:47pillar
27:47made a
27:48covenant
27:48before the
27:48Lord
27:49are you
27:50committed
27:50to the
27:51Lord
27:51Jesus
27:51Christ
27:51do you
27:52know
27:52that he
27:52died
27:53for your
27:53sins
27:53have you
27:54followed
27:54him
27:55in
27:55obedience
27:55through
27:55the
27:55waters
27:56of
27:56baptism
27:57you see
27:58that is
27:59the outward
27:59declaration
28:00of what
28:00has occurred
28:01inward
28:02Josiah
28:02now
28:03is impacted
28:04by the
28:04word of
28:05God
28:05its truth
28:05has brought
28:06him to
28:06repentance
28:07and deep
28:07grief
28:07now he's
28:08going to
28:09restructure
28:09things
28:10and that's
28:10the rest
28:11of chapter
28:1123
28:12you see
28:14changes
28:15occur
28:15in response
28:17to the
28:18word of
28:18God
28:19which are
28:20indicative
28:20of a
28:21true
28:21reformation
28:23transpiring
28:24coming to
28:25pass
28:26basically
28:27I'm not
28:27going to
28:27deal
28:27with
28:28that
28:28but
28:29you
28:29can
28:29read
28:29it
28:29to
28:29yourselves
28:30and the
28:30question
28:31will
28:31arise
28:31I'll
28:31bring it
28:32more up
28:32to date
28:32by simply
28:34stating
28:34this
28:34there is
28:35and by
28:36implication
28:36I think
28:37in what
28:37we have
28:37read
28:37and heard
28:38but there
28:39is a
28:39realization
28:40of what
28:41is at
28:42stake
28:43what is
28:43at
28:44stake
28:44either
28:45or
28:46the
28:47blessings
28:47or the
28:48curse
28:49of almighty
28:50God
28:51Romans
28:526
28:5223
28:53put it
28:53this
28:53way
28:55just to
28:56pull it
28:56for you
28:57for the
28:58wages
28:58of sin
28:58is death
28:59but the
29:00gift
29:00of God
29:02is eternal
29:02life
29:03through
29:03Jesus
29:04Christ
29:04our
29:05Lord
29:05and to
29:06know his
29:06blessings
29:06in this
29:07life
29:07judgment
29:08is pending
29:09but in
29:09our time
29:10will it
29:11be delayed
29:12notice
29:13the peace
29:14that
29:14Josiah
29:15and his
29:15people
29:15knew
29:16verse
29:1620
29:16there
29:1622
29:18will
29:19the

29:19turn
29:19to
29:20the
29:20true
29:20God
29:20in
29:21repentance
29:22and call
29:23upon
29:23him
29:23for
29:24mercy
29:25the
29:26changes
