Death In Paradise S15E08 Bbcip Episode 8 Engsub
Transcript
00:01Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you the Luska.
00:07This giant cephalopod-like sea creature, half octopus, half shark, is, many believe, the stuff of fantasy.
00:16The kind of fictional monster Jules Verne might dream up.
00:20But then, there are those more open-minded souls, like myself,
00:24who believe this gigantic cryptid to be as real as you or I.
00:30I will present to you the evidence I have collated, proving this animal is no mere figment of the imagination.
00:35And it all begins with the first sighting, off the coast of St. Marie in 1823, by this man.
00:44A pirate by the name of Pierre Lafitte.
00:55Yeah, Lafitte was my great-great-great-grandfather.
00:59I'll tell you no lies. Still got the journal he had when he was pirating away.
01:03Passed on from generation to generation.
01:06And that's why this is the only boat trip where you can experience the exact place my ancestor witnessed.
01:14The Luska.
01:16Roll up, roll up! You know you want to.
01:19And I promise you guys, you will not be disappointed.
01:24So how was it? You're a believer now.
01:28To be honest, I think I'm even less of a believer than I was before.
01:34I don't know why you're bothered.
01:36Because I want to be prepared.
01:39I'm afraid nothing can prepare you for my ex-husband.
01:48Either that's him, or we've come to a soup kitchen by mistake.
01:56Hello, Giles.
01:57Cara, it's been a while, hasn't it?
02:00Death?
02:01Oh, er...
02:03Stop me.
02:09This is Rory.
02:12Ah, yes. Didn't realise you were bringing him. Nice to meet you, Rory.
02:18It's great to finally meet you, Giles.
02:20Can't wait to hear all your stories about the Luska.
02:22Absolutely fascinated about it.
02:24Ah.
02:26Would you like a glass of wine?
02:28Just a cup of coffee will do me, ta.
02:31Erm...
02:32Let me see if I can find a waiter.
02:34Sit down.
02:41So how are you?
02:43I mean, you know, the...
02:45the anniversary.
02:47Feels strange to be back.
02:51Like it was only yesterday.
02:53I'm taking the boat out later, to where it happened.
02:57Fancy joining.
02:58You remember him together?
02:59No, I'd rather stay here.
03:01With Rory.
03:04No, I'd rather stay here.
03:21With Rory.
03:21Poor guy.
03:31All right, Milano.
03:50All right, Milano.
03:59It's just a bad dream.
04:08How have you been?
04:10Just went for a walk. That's all.
04:14Thanks.
05:12Good morning, sir. You good?
05:15No, I am not good.
05:18What's wrong?
05:20Turns out, I am an uncle.
05:22Yes, Mum.
05:23Unless I understand.
05:25But I came to visit Uncle Merv anyway.
05:28That's Eloise, the niece I didn't know I had.
05:31So you're her Uncle Merv.
05:33No, I'm not.
05:35I mean, yes, I am her uncle, but not Merv.
05:37Never Merv, understood?
05:39OK. Clearly touched a nerve there.
05:44So she's Solomon's daughter?
05:46I don't know why he couldn't just tell me that in the first place.
05:48He could have just said, well, as it happens, I do have a daughter.
05:51Are he and her mother together?
05:53Yeah, not for some time, apparently.
05:55She's supposed to be staying with her Auntie Vondra,
05:57but she doesn't like it there, so she ran away and came here.
06:01They've got a case, I assume?
06:03Oh, my God.
06:04It's not a murder case, is it?
06:07Please let me come on a ride along, Uncle Merv.
06:10Please.
06:11Right.
06:11So, firstly, you're not coming on any ride-along.
06:15And secondly, it's not Uncle Merv.
06:17It's Merv Inn, remember?
06:20Hi.
06:21I'm Naomi, by the way.
06:23I work with your Uncle Merv.
06:27Right.
06:28Go pack your stuff, young lady.
06:30You've got a boat to catch.
06:31I am sending you back home to Antigua.
06:33Whatever you say, Uncle Merv.
06:35And it's not...
06:39I like her.
06:45Victim's name's Giles Parry, 58 years of age.
06:48Body was found floating six miles out at sea.
06:51Sergeant Fletcher's with the Coast Guard now.
06:53A couple of fishermen going out early this morning came across the body.
06:57But paramedics reckon he'd been in the water since last night.
07:01Thing is, this is already causing a stir on the heart.
07:05Why is that?
07:06Because of those marks on his body.
07:10They're all over his front and his back.
07:12And the bruising here.
07:14Some people are saying it was caused by the Losca, and that's what killed him.
07:19Sorry, what?
07:21It's a sea monster.
07:22A sea monster?
07:23Like a local legend kind of thing.
07:26Half shark, half octopus wraps its tentacles around you and drags you under.
07:31Hence...
07:31A sea monster?
07:32Not everybody believes in this thing.
07:34Most people don't, but...
07:36Do you?
07:37No, but it's still part of our history, part of our culture.
07:41Right.
07:43Well, we can knock that theory on the head as a possible cause of death, alright?
07:46Except there's a little more to it than that, sir.
07:49That's why he's here.
07:58I've always wondered whether this would come back to haunt me.
08:02Seven years ago yesterday, Giles Parry's 16-year-old son, Benjamin, drowned at sea.
08:11The exact same location as Giles' body was found this morning.
08:17A local fisherman told me that Mr. Parry had sailed out to that spot yesterday to pay his respects.
08:26Then he ended up dead himself?
08:28Mm-hm.
08:30Was he stormy yesterday?
08:32Called the harbour master.
08:34It was calm for the last 24 hours.
08:36And do we know what time he left the harbour?
08:38Just before seven o'clock, according to the GPS.
08:42Also, there's a boat mechanic who's been fixing Mr. Parry's engine.
08:45He saw him leave.
08:47He says there was definitely nobody else on the boat with him.
08:50It's arrived at a final destination.
08:52Half an hour later, radar shows no other boat near it at any point.
08:56So, what happened to him?
08:59How did he end up dead with all those weird markings on him?
09:03Unless, you know, it was the last girl.
09:08I hate to break it to you, Officer Rose, but sea monsters don't exist?
09:11No, yeah, I know.
09:14Well, it'd be cool if they did do all right.
09:17What's that?
09:26It's a bullet.
09:28Our victim wasn't shot, right?
09:31No.
09:32And there was no gun found on the boat?
09:34Not that tough phone so far.
09:40So, what is that doing here?
09:50I don't know what happened on that boat,
09:53but the fact that we found this on it means it's suspicious.
09:58I think someone else was there, you know?
10:04I'm going to talk to Catherine.
10:07From what I know,
10:08James Parry was an isolated figure,
10:11but he did drink at her bar and he would talk to her.
10:15I'm also going to contact the Guadalupe police
10:18and request the Benjamin Parry case files.
10:22So, the search back then wasn't led by the St. Marie team?
10:25As it was, the Guadalupe Coast Guard,
10:28who was first contacted when the empty boat was discovered,
10:32they staked their claim.
10:35I bet that rankled.
10:36I did push for us to have a role,
10:39but the senior investigating officer wasn't interested.
10:47There's some people on St. Marie
10:49who think I should have pressed harder,
10:52especially when they ran into a dead end earlier on.
10:57It's always been felt more could have been done
11:01not by me.
11:07Considering I am already persona non grata,
11:12I would like to do my bit to try and solve this case now
11:17and win back the community's trust.
11:20I've located the victim's ex-wife.
11:23She and her partner are staying at a hotel just outside Tom.
11:35We arrived here two days ago
11:37to mark the anniversary of Kara's son's passing.
11:41And I'm sorry to ask, Miss Smart, but your son Benjamin,
11:45why did he take the boat out on his own?
11:49Giles had always been into UFOs and aliens,
11:53that kind of thing.
11:54Our holidays were spent visiting Loch Ness
11:57or the Bermuda Triangle.
11:59The Losca here on St. Marie.
12:01Ben was getting even more fanatical than he stood.
12:04That's why he snuck out on his own
12:07and took the boat we'd hired out
12:09for a last-ditch sighting of the Losca.
12:12The weather turned bad.
12:14The sea was rough.
12:16He never came back.
12:22I kept hoping they'd find him alive
12:25with a life jacket on just floating somewhere.
12:28As time passed, you have to accept that he's not coming back.
12:34So you returned home to England?
12:36After ten months, Giles and I were arguing nonstop by then.
12:41I just needed some space,
12:43some time to process it all.
12:46Whereas he...
12:50Giles was convinced the Losca took their son.
12:54He became obsessed.
12:56That's why he stayed on here when I left.
12:59To try and prove the Losca exists.
13:02And he really, truly believed in it.
13:07And yesterday, did you see Giles at all?
13:11We had an early dinner at five.
13:13It's great to finally meet you, Giles.
13:15And how was that? How was Giles then?
13:18It was fine. You know, quiet.
13:21Giles was Giles.
13:23Still as delusional as he ever was.
13:26Did Giles ever own a gun at all?
13:28Not like we were together.
13:30And I struggled to leave.
13:32He bought one while he was out here.
13:34What exactly happened to Giles?
13:36You said that he was found dead at sea.
13:38I assumed it was an accident.
13:40But is there more to it than that?
13:43Well, we're not sure yet.
13:46We're still working on that one.
13:56Hey, my friend's dad swears he saw the Losca one time.
14:00Okay, Seth. Come on.
14:01There's never the same afterwards.
14:04Keep our focus on the keys.
14:31Keep our focus on the keys.
14:33Look...
14:34Aunty Vondra.
14:34I mean Vondra.
14:42Vondra...
14:42Vondra, Vondra.
14:43It's all right.
14:44She's back at my place.
14:45She's safe.
14:46Thanks.
14:46OK, look, I'll call you back in a bit.
14:50Mo?
14:52Hey, Uncle Mo.
14:53Hope you're hungry, I ordered lots.
14:56Which reminds me, I borrowed your credit card this morning.
14:59Needed it to pay for the boat ticket back to St Marie.
15:02And dinner.
15:03You really are your father's daughter, aren't you?
15:05I know, right?
15:07What's going on, Eloise?
15:08Why are you back here?
15:11Because we need to talk about Dad.
15:14We could have done that this morning.
15:16Why didn't you mention it then?
15:18I was waiting for the right moment.
15:19And before I know it, you're shoving me on a boat back home.
15:25All right.
15:26What about your dad?
15:29We need to work out a plan, Uncle Merv.
15:31A plan for what?
15:32To get him out of prison.
15:34To find evidence that proves he's innocent.
15:38OK, um...
15:40What exactly did your dad tell you about him being arrested?
15:43Just that he was set up.
15:45And should it be in jail?
15:47That it's, um, miscarriage...
15:50A miscarriage of justice.
15:53So, we need to help him, right?
15:59Why don't you go and get some plates and cutlery, yeah?
16:08I'm sorry, you...
16:11I'm sorry, you...
16:11Idiots.
16:31Solomon clearly hasn't told her about the scam he got caught up in.
16:35That he is as good as shot someone.
16:37And held me hostage.
16:40He's dressed it up like he was the victim.
16:43And she obviously idolizes him.
16:46What are you going to do?
16:48I should just tell her the truth, right?
16:51Just...
16:53Tell her in a nice way.
16:55Not in a...
16:57Your kind of way.
16:59What is a my kind of way?
17:01You know, sometimes you can be a...
17:04Tiny bit insensitive.
17:07Insensitive?
17:09Me? Insensitive?
17:10That is rubbish.
17:11I mean, if anything, it's everyone else who is too sensitive.
17:15Sure.
17:16That's totally what it is.
17:21Hey, Louise.
17:25Right, um...
17:26I'm off to work now.
17:28So we can have dinner later, yeah?
17:31And we'll, um...
17:33We'll talk.
17:35OK, Uncle Mark.
17:39Old school.
17:40I like it.
17:47Right, where are we at with the case?
17:49Anything from the lab yet?
17:52Postmortem's estimating time of death between 7.30 and 8pm.
17:56So, the victim leaves the harbour at 7,
18:00dies between 7.30 and 8,
18:03out at sea,
18:04just after he drops anchor.
18:06And cause of death was internal bleeding
18:09due to a ruptured spleen,
18:11which, in theory,
18:13could have been caused
18:14by something
18:15gripping him tightly,
18:17like
18:17the tentacles of the Lusk.
18:21Or,
18:21more likely,
18:23something else.
18:25Same with the red markings.
18:27Kinda like friction burns.
18:29But,
18:29there's nothing at the scene to suggest
18:31what might have caused it.
18:33What about the search of the victim's house?
18:36Er, Mattia and Seb are just starting.
18:39Er, Mattia and Seb are just starting.
18:53Sarge!
18:54You have to see this.
18:56Ten-year-old Seb will be losing his mind right now.
19:01Like sea monster central in here.
19:06This is gonna be the best search ever.
19:09Alright, Officer Rose.
19:10You start on the computer,
19:12I'll hit the cabinets.
19:12Alright, cool.
19:20You alright, Sarge?
19:22Yeah,
19:23it's just my old boss from Jamaica
19:24I'll call him once we're done with this.
19:26Alright.
19:37So what do we know about our victim?
19:39Giles Parry worked as a paramedic
19:41back in the UK
19:42until he moved out here seven years ago.
19:45Spent all his savings buying a boat
19:47and earned a small income
19:49giving talks about the legend of the Luska.
19:51What about these two?
19:52Any sniff of a motive yet?
19:53We're still waiting on Mr. Lyons'
19:56background and financial checks,
19:58but he and Cara have been together
20:00just over a year.
20:01Met on a dating app.
20:02Now,
20:03as he only met the victim
20:04for the first time yesterday,
20:05I'm struggling to find a reason
20:07for him wanting Mr. Parry dead.
20:09But,
20:10she's a different story.
20:11Miss Smart
20:12previously worked as a teacher
20:14before giving that up
20:15to write a book
20:16a few years ago.
20:17A memoir
20:18about losing her son.
20:19I skim read it
20:21and she's very honest
20:23about how hurt
20:24and angry she felt
20:25about Giles' behaviour.
20:27When I needed
20:28my husband's love the most,
20:30he disappeared down
20:31the rabbit hole of fantasy,
20:33casting me aside
20:34for his futile belief
20:35in a mythical beast.
20:37I mean,
20:37the guy had gone
20:38full-on looney tune,
20:39didn't he?
20:40What was that
20:41you said earlier
20:42about not being insensitive?
20:45Look,
20:45I'm not...
20:45Where it gets interesting
20:46is the book's
20:48no longer bringing in
20:49any money.
20:50She's basically broke.
20:51I spoke to her
20:52literary agent in the UK
20:53and apparently
20:55a US TV production company
20:57has offered to make
20:58a documentary
20:59about her and Giles' son
21:00going missing.
21:01It's worth
21:02a quarter of a million dollars.
21:05Oh,
21:05I'm sensing a but.
21:07It going ahead
21:08was dependent
21:09on Mr. Parry
21:11agreeing to appear
21:12in the documentary too.
21:14Don't tell me.
21:15He didn't want to.
21:23So we spoke
21:23to the staff here.
21:24Well,
21:25that dinner
21:25you had with Giles,
21:26it wasn't as sedate
21:28as you said it was.
21:29According to them,
21:30you got quite worked up,
21:32Miss Smart.
21:33Angry
21:33that your ex-husband
21:34was refusing
21:35to agree
21:36to the documentary.
21:37Well,
21:37that's an exaggeration
21:38if ever I heard one.
21:39No,
21:39it's not.
21:40It's the truth.
21:41Giles,
21:41please,
21:42I need this.
21:43Why are you being
21:43so stubborn?
21:44Because I know
21:45what they'll do
21:46and make me have to look
21:46like some mad conspiracy theorist.
21:48I hate you,
21:49Charles,
21:50so much.
21:53I didn't just lose
21:54a son seven years ago.
21:56I lost my husband as well.
21:58He never once thought of me
22:00that maybe he needed
22:02to be there for me.
22:04And even now,
22:05years later,
22:05I asked for his help
22:07because,
22:08yes,
22:08I need the money.
22:09I thought at least
22:10he owed me that one favour,
22:12but,
22:13no,
22:14not even that.
22:15Thing is,
22:16Miss Smart,
22:16we checked with the production company
22:18and that documentary
22:19has officially got the go-ahead.
22:20So now with Giles dying
22:21in suspicious circumstances
22:23and even the locals
22:24saying it was the Lusker
22:25that did it,
22:26well,
22:26it's an even more tantalising
22:27proposition than it was before.
22:29You get exactly what you wanted.
22:30No,
22:30you're wrong.
22:31I didn't kill Charles
22:32to get some documentary made.
22:35I'm not that desperate.
22:38I'll hesitate this.
22:42So you want to tell me
22:43where you were two nights ago
22:44between 7.30 and 8?
22:46We were here at the hotel.
22:48We were together in our room.
22:52It wasn't me.
22:53It just wasn't.
22:56Sir.
23:02That was Matty.
23:03She's with the commissioner.
23:04They've got something.
23:14This is the closest I've come
23:15to actually seeing it.
23:17The Lusker.
23:18I'm still shaking
23:19from what happened.
23:21If there was proof
23:22she's out there,
23:22this is it.
23:24I've moored my boat
23:24a few miles out.
23:25Coordinates are...
23:2716 degrees,
23:2832 minutes,
23:2929.8 seconds north.
23:3161 degrees,
23:3255 minutes,
23:330.1.8 seconds west.
23:35There's a sinkhole
23:35on the seabed there
23:36where I previously identified
23:37as a possible home
23:38for the creature.
23:39Amazing.
23:40It was just getting dark
23:42when I heard it.
23:43I felt it.
23:45A thud
23:45as it hit the bow of the boat.
23:47And again,
23:47and then again.
23:48I could hear it
23:49dragging itself along
23:50as it tried to pull away.
23:51It was her.
23:53I know it was.
23:54The Lusker.
23:56I've got to go back
23:57to take it tonight.
24:00Totally amazing.
24:07Just to confirm,
24:08no one here
24:09actually thinks
24:10it was the Lusker
24:11that was underneath
24:12Giles Parry's boat.
24:13Well,
24:14I'm not ruling it out,
24:15Inspector.
24:16Apart from Officer Rose.
24:17No,
24:17of course we don't.
24:18But
24:19there is more to it.
24:20Giles Parry uploaded
24:22this vlog to his website
24:23two days before his death.
24:25We checked his GPS
24:27and he went back
24:28to the same exact location
24:30the next night
24:30here.
24:33And this isn't
24:34the same location
24:35Giles' body was found?
24:37Where his son,
24:38Benjamin,
24:38went missing?
24:39No,
24:39that was two miles away
24:41here.
24:41But the thing is,
24:43when Giles got back,
24:44he deleted this video
24:46straight away.
24:47So why?
24:48Catherine spoke to him
24:49shortly after.
24:50And he seemed troubled.
24:53Everything all right,
24:55Giles?
24:57He asked me
24:58about the Commissioner.
25:00Knew I was
25:00friends with him
25:01and said
25:02he might need
25:03to speak with him.
25:04Is it to do
25:05with Benjamin's
25:06disappearance?
25:08I don't know.
25:10Maybe.
25:18Hang on,
25:19these are the same
25:19coordinates he talked
25:20about in his vlog.
25:21I don't know
25:22what happened there,
25:23but it's clearly
25:24of significance.
25:28We should go out there.
25:29Do a reenactment,
25:31Same time,
25:32same place,
25:32same boat.
25:33Find out what this
25:34X is all about.
25:35I was so hoping
25:37he was going to say
25:37that, Inspector.
25:38I can't believe
25:39you're going
25:40on a monster hunt.
25:41That's not what
25:42we're doing.
25:42That's not what
25:43you're doing.
25:51I don't understand.
25:53If you're going
25:54on a boat trip,
25:55why can't I come?
25:56Because it might
25:57be dangerous.
25:58Well,
25:59then I really
25:59want to come.
26:00Well,
26:01you can't.
26:01You're staying
26:02with Catherine
26:02tonight,
26:03and we're getting
26:03you home first
26:03thing in the morning,
26:04all right?
26:05But we need
26:06to talk about
26:07Dad still.
26:11Okay.
26:13Look,
26:13about your Dad.
26:14I don't know
26:15what he told you,
26:16but it certainly
26:17wasn't factual.
26:18What he was
26:19arrested for,
26:20it's serious.
26:21And I should know
26:22because I was there
26:23when it happened.
26:25What are you saying?
26:28Hey, Louise.
26:31Listen,
26:31there was no
26:32miscarriage of justice.
26:33All right?
26:35He wasn't falsely
26:36accused.
26:36Your dad is guilty.
26:38So, no,
26:39I can't help you
26:40find new evidence.
26:42And he'll be
26:43in prison for a while.
26:45I'm sorry.
26:48So,
26:49what happens now?
26:50I just go back
26:51home in the morning?
26:53Yeah,
26:54of course.
26:55I mean,
26:55that's where
26:56your mum is,
26:56right?
26:57And you don't
26:59want to stay
26:59with me,
27:00do you?
27:01Of course
27:01I don't.
27:02I've got a life
27:03to get on with.
27:05So,
27:06what's your problem?
27:08This must be
27:09Eloise.
27:11It's nice to meet you.
27:13Hey,
27:14thanks for looking
27:15after me.
27:16See you all,
27:17my friend.
27:23So,
27:24my chef
27:25will cook you
27:26anything you want.
27:41hey,
27:43Ready for me to
27:43car stop?
27:44Uh-huh.
27:47You know,
27:48sir,
27:48this isn't exactly
27:49the safest boat
27:50I've been on.
27:51The two life rings
27:52there are missing
27:53their ropes,
27:54so let's hope
27:54no one goes
27:55overboard.
28:04Is that the
28:04Benjamin Perry case
28:05for?
28:06Oh,
28:08I just arrived
28:08from Guadeloupe.
28:09The commissioner's
28:10making us start
28:10going through it all.
28:33Can I speak to you
28:34for a minute
28:35about the private
28:36master commissioner?
28:44Of course.
28:45I got a couple
28:46of missed calls
28:47from my old bus
28:49in Jamaica today,
28:50and I haven't
28:51called him back
28:52because I think
28:53I know what
28:54it's to do with.
28:55He fooled me
28:56as well,
28:57actually.
28:58Damod Dyer
29:00was acquitted
29:01on all courts.
29:03He's a free man.
29:06I'm sorry.
29:08Have you told
29:09any of the team?
29:13Uh,
29:14Seb knows
29:15I had a boyfriend
29:16that I broke up
29:17with before I came
29:17here,
29:18and I told him
29:20that I had
29:20messed up on a case
29:23when I thought
29:24the two were connected,
29:26that my ex
29:27is a criminal.
29:30I think I'd
29:31rather keep
29:31it that way
29:32for now.
29:35Nearing the destination
29:36now,
29:36Commissioner.
29:37Dropping the anchor soon.
29:38Thank you,
29:39Officer Rose.
29:41Aye, aye,
29:41Captain.
29:42Aye, aye.
29:50Must have been
29:51frustrating
29:52not having
29:53oversight
29:53of that case.
30:03Delosca?
30:04It can't be.
30:05Whatever it is,
30:06it's the same song
30:07Giles Parry heard.
30:13You hear that?
30:14Yeah,
30:15we heard it.
30:15Can you see anything?
30:16No,
30:16no,
30:17it's not Delosca.
30:18It's your song
30:18like it is.
30:19Can you see anything
30:20outside?
30:21No,
30:21nothing.
30:22Me neither.
30:23Anything now?
30:24Over here,
30:25there's something
30:25moving.
30:26Where?
30:26Yes,
30:27Thomas?
30:27There's something
30:28down there.
30:29I can see you moving.
30:30Sergeant Fletcher,
30:31what are you doing?
30:33That ain't no sea monster.
30:37Matty!
30:49Stupid woman!
30:51You cut my ass
30:52apply!
30:53That's Kelvin Mason.
30:54He runs a boat excursion
30:56business in the harbor.
30:57There's some sort of box
30:58under there.
30:59It looks like it's
31:00time to wait.
31:01Stop it moving.
31:16Inspector,
31:17here's the box
31:17we salvaged from the sea.
31:22You're gun.
31:23We found on your jet ski,
31:24Mr. Mason.
31:28Your keys.
31:29Let's see if one of these
31:30fits,
31:31shall we?
31:35Your box.
31:47cocaine, I'm guessing.
31:49I'm guessing.
31:50Around two kilos.
31:51You'll be charged for this.
31:56Look,
31:56I'm just a middleman,
31:58all right?
31:58I don't sell it.
32:00I don't buy it.
32:01I just make some extra money
32:02moving it from A to B.
32:03Giles Parry was on to you,
32:05wasn't he?
32:06At first,
32:06he thought it was
32:07the Luska
32:08making those noises
32:09beneath his boat.
32:13I didn't know
32:14he'd moored above me.
32:15Couldn't stop myself
32:16from hitting it
32:17when I came back up.
32:18That's what he heard.
32:19Me banging against
32:20the bottom of his boat.
32:21And when he went
32:22to the same location
32:23a second time
32:25to try and catch sight of it...
32:26Sir,
32:27the Luska.
32:28I've got to go back
32:29again tonight.
32:29He discovered
32:30what you were up to.
32:31That's why he was talking
32:32about going to the police.
32:34He said he might need
32:35to speak with him.
32:37I didn't know he'd seen me.
32:39When I went back
32:40to the harbour...
32:41I know what you're up to,
32:42Kelvin.
32:43I pleaded with him
32:44not to say anything
32:45to the police.
32:47Got to know Giles
32:48quite a bit over the years.
32:49Helped him with his research
32:51a couple of times,
32:52so I thought
32:53he might give me a chance.
32:55And?
32:56He told me
32:57he'd think about it,
33:00but didn't reckon
33:01he could ignore it.
33:03The next thing he's found
33:04floating six miles
33:05out at sea, dead.
33:07I didn't do that to him,
33:08I swear!
33:09His gun of yours,
33:10what calibre is it?
33:12It's a nine millimetre.
33:13Why?
33:14Because he found
33:15a nine millimetre bullet
33:16on Giles Perry's boat.
33:18Is that a coincidence,
33:19Mr Mason?
33:19Yes, it is.
33:20I wasn't anywhere
33:21near his boat
33:22when he died.
33:23Mr Mason,
33:25you were questioned
33:25seven years ago
33:27when Giles' son
33:28disappeared
33:29as a witness.
33:31Everybody around
33:31the harbour was.
33:33Was that got to do
33:33with anything?
33:34So,
33:35that also is just
33:36a coincidence.
33:38Yes, it is.
33:40Look,
33:41if it wasn't you,
33:41then where were you
33:42at 7.30
33:43the night Giles Perry
33:44was murdered?
33:45Um,
33:46I was taking a drink
33:47with a guy
33:48who works for me,
33:50a fella named Jackson.
33:52You fancy another?
33:54Call him,
33:54ask him,
33:55he'll tell you.
33:56I swear.
33:59But,
34:01there's something else
34:02you all need to know.
34:03Something that happened
34:04before Giles
34:05took his boat out.
34:08Poor guy.
34:09I went
34:09to speak with him
34:11to see if he changed
34:12his mind about
34:13talking with the police.
34:16When I turned the corner,
34:17he was arguing
34:18with someone.
34:20Giles called him
34:21Rory.
34:22I know your game,
34:24Rory.
34:24Giles said he had
34:25evidence of some kind.
34:27I didn't hear
34:28what.
34:29But he took out
34:29this folder
34:30and he gave it to him.
34:32Now that the Rory
34:33fella,
34:34he didn't seem
34:34too happy.
34:36Got a bit
34:36physical.
34:38He shoved Giles.
34:39Giles fell over
34:40and hurt himself.
34:42Then what did you do?
34:44I turned and left.
35:00Right,
35:01let's get over
35:01to the hotel.
35:02Let's interview
35:03our new suspect.
35:09Sir,
35:10with respect,
35:11shouldn't we just
35:12focus on solving
35:13the Giles Perry
35:14case right now?
35:15This isn't a
35:16cold case investigation.
35:17And we've got
35:18a new lead now.
35:19I just have this feeling
35:21the answer lies
35:21right here in front of me.
35:23If only I knew
35:24what it was.
35:25OK.
35:31I admit we argued,
35:33Giles and I.
35:33It was more than
35:34an argument,
35:35Mr Lyons,
35:36from what we were told.
35:38Things might have
35:39got a bit physical,
35:40but what he was saying
35:41upset me.
35:42Which was what
35:42exactly?
35:43That I was only
35:44with Kara
35:45for her money.
35:48Rory only told me
35:49about this last night.
35:51Giles had
35:52unscrabbled
35:53together enough
35:53money to
35:54pay a private
35:55investigator
35:56to look into
35:57Rory and his
35:58ex.
35:59That's what he found.
36:03So your
36:04previous partner
36:06invested in
36:07your business,
36:08which went
36:09bankrupt.
36:11She's still
36:12chasing you
36:12for money?
36:13It was a total
36:14mess I made.
36:16Financially
36:17and personally.
36:19Everything in that
36:20file,
36:21it's all true.
36:22Apart from the
36:23suggestion that I'm
36:24doing the same again
36:25with Kara,
36:25because I'm not.
36:26I think that's why
36:27Giles wouldn't agree
36:28to the documentary.
36:29He thought that
36:30Rory would take
36:31the money.
36:32But I don't want
36:33a penny.
36:33I just want to be
36:34with Kara.
36:36So why did you
36:37follow Mr Perry
36:38down to the harbour
36:39after dinner?
36:40Because he was being
36:41so unforgiving
36:41towards Kara,
36:43saying that she was
36:44using their son's
36:45tragedy to line
36:45her own pockets
36:46I wanted him
36:47to know the truth.
36:53We're adopting
36:54a baby,
36:56starting a family,
36:57and it's taken
36:58all the courage
36:59in the world
36:59for her to do this.
37:01And you told him?
37:08All Kara wants
37:10is to be a family.
37:16I think it threw him.
37:18Then he picked up
37:18his things and
37:19got on his boat.
37:21And that's the last
37:22time you saw him?
37:25Mr Lyons?
37:26Rory?
37:29He phoned me when I got
37:32back to the hotel
37:33about half an hour
37:34later.
37:35He was out at sea.
37:38What did he say?
37:40He asked if I loved
37:41Kara.
37:43Like he needed to get
37:45it confirmed.
37:47And you said?
37:51Yes, I do.
37:53So very much.
37:59Then he just hung up.
38:19So a few minutes
38:20before he dies,
38:21Giles Parry phones
38:22his ex-wife's
38:23new partner
38:24to ask if he loves her.
38:26That doesn't sound
38:27like he was being
38:27attacked by a sea monster
38:29or murdered.
38:30Nope.
38:31It sounds to me
38:32like a guy who'd
38:32finally made his peace
38:34with the world.
38:35Which kind of
38:36makes me wonder,
38:38you know.
38:39Did Giles Parry
38:40take his own life?
38:41But then try to
38:42make it look like
38:43it was the Lusker
38:44that did it
38:44to prove to everyone
38:46that it was right
38:46all along?
38:48That doesn't feel right.
38:50Anyway,
38:50that doesn't explain
38:51the bullet.
38:52Why was that there?
38:54So what happened?
38:55He was alone
38:56on that boat,
38:57six miles out at sea,
38:59and our three suspects
39:00were all on dry land
39:01when he died.
39:02How and why
39:04did he end up dead?
39:08Maybe these two
39:08have the answer.
39:11Just come straight
39:12from the lab.
39:13Police tell me
39:14it's good news.
39:15There are no
39:16striation marks
39:17on the bullet.
39:18So they can't match it
39:19to Kelvin Mason's
39:21gone.
39:21Same make,
39:21same calibre,
39:22but...
39:23Hang on.
39:23No striation marks
39:24at all.
39:25Said they've been
39:26worn away
39:27by incrustation
39:29of marine organisms.
39:31Corrosion patterns
39:32suggest that bullet
39:34has been on the
39:34seabed for six
39:35to eight years.
39:36Basically,
39:37they're just saying
39:37the bullet is
39:38some sea debris.
39:39But that doesn't
39:40explain how we
39:41ended up on the boat
39:41in the first place.
39:49Did Giles Pyro
39:50take his own life?
39:52The two liferings
39:53there are missing
39:54their ropes.
39:55Giles Pyro worked
39:55as a paramedic
39:56back in the UK
39:57until he moved out
39:58here seven years ago.
40:00Now that the Rory
40:00fella, he didn't
40:01seem too happy.
40:03Got a bit
40:03physical.
40:04Is it to do
40:05with Benjamin's
40:06disappearance?
40:07I don't know.
40:08He asked if I
40:09loved Cara.
40:11Bingo.
40:12I know what
40:13happened to Giles
40:14and how he ended
40:15up dead like that.
40:31Sir,
40:32we cracked the case.
40:33Benjamin Parry's
40:34disappearance.
40:35I think I know
40:37what happened.
40:41Spot the difference.
41:03We have a lot
41:04to thank this
41:05little bullet for.
41:06it's helped us
41:07make sense of
41:08the present
41:09and the past.
41:10In the present,
41:12it's what solved
41:13the mystery of
41:13your ex-husband's
41:14death, Miss Smart.
41:15Leading me to
41:16finally understand
41:17why and how
41:19Giles Parry's body
41:20was found dead
41:20in the water,
41:21looking like
41:22the Lusker,
41:23the legendary
41:24sea monster he'd
41:25spent seven years
41:26searching for,
41:27had finally caught
41:28up with him.
41:28And in terms
41:29of the past?
41:31We'll come to
41:32that, surely.
41:33Through this case,
41:35we've worked on
41:36the basis that
41:37whatever happened
41:38to Mr. Parry,
41:39it all happened
41:40at the same time
41:41while he was
41:42out at sea.
41:43But we've now
41:44realised that
41:46his injuries
41:47were actually
41:47sustained in
41:49two separate
41:49locations.
41:51The first injury,
41:52the bruising to
41:53his stomach
41:53and the rupturing
41:54of his spleen,
41:56that happened
41:56on dry land,
41:58down by the
41:59harbour,
41:59when you
42:00and he
42:01tussled Rory.
42:02You're saying
42:03it was me?
42:04You will be
42:05charged with
42:06involuntary
42:06manslaughter.
42:07We know you
42:08didn't mean to
42:09kill Giles,
42:10far from it.
42:11However,
42:12his subsequent
42:13fall from
42:14your push
42:15caused a
42:16serious internal
42:17injury.
42:20He just
42:20didn't know
42:21it at the
42:21time.
42:22Oh, my
42:23God.
42:24Giles was
42:25totally unaware
42:26that his life
42:27was slipping
42:27away.
42:27That's why
42:28he walked
42:29away from
42:30you,
42:30got on
42:30his boat
42:31and went
42:32out to
42:32sea.
42:34He was
42:35probably
42:35already a
42:36few miles
42:36out when
42:37he started
42:37to feel
42:38ill.
42:39Initially,
42:40some discomfort
42:41in his
42:41abdomen,
42:43feeling faint,
42:44feverish.
42:45But it was
42:46only by the
42:47time he
42:47reached his
42:48destination,
42:49six miles
42:50from land,
42:51that he
42:51fully comprehended
42:53what was
42:54happening.
42:55We know
42:56Giles used
42:56to be a
42:57paramedic,
42:58so it's
42:58safe to
42:59assume he
43:00worked out
43:01what was
43:02wrong,
43:02that he
43:03had minutes
43:04left to
43:05live.
43:06I'm so
43:07sorry.
43:08And if his
43:09imminent death
43:09wasn't a grim
43:10enough prospect,
43:11Mr. Parry also
43:12realised that if
43:13his body was
43:14found on deck,
43:15we would start
43:16to question how
43:17he was fatally
43:18injured.
43:18And the
43:19post-mortem
43:19would more than
43:20likely lead back
43:21to the altercation
43:22he had with you,
43:23Mr. Lyons, and
43:24subsequently some
43:25time in prison.
43:26And knowing what
43:27you told him about
43:28yourself and
43:29Kara wanting to
43:30start a family,
43:32well, he didn't
43:33want to inflict any
43:34further suffering
43:35on you both.
43:36That's the way
43:36he phoned and
43:38asked Rory if
43:39he loved me.
43:40That's why he
43:41needed to know,
43:42to be sure.
43:44Do you love
43:45her?
43:46He could
43:46protect you
43:47both by making
43:49it look like
43:50he killed
43:51himself.
43:54It was
43:55D.S.
43:55Thomas here
43:56who noticed
43:56the ropes
43:57were missing
43:57from the
43:58life rings
43:58on Giles'
43:59boat.
43:59The two
44:00life rings
44:01there are
44:01missing
44:01their ropes,
44:02so let's
44:02hope no
44:03one goes
44:03overboard.
44:04I didn't
44:05think anything
44:05of it at
44:06first.
44:06But then
44:07when I
44:07started to
44:08understand
44:08what happened
44:10that day,
44:11that's when
44:11I realised
44:12why those
44:13ropes weren't
44:13there.
44:18And hopefully
44:19this call
44:19will confirm
44:20it.
44:23they found
44:24the ropes
44:24tied to
44:25the boat's
44:25spare battery
44:26on the
44:26seabed.
44:27Okay.
44:28Thank you,
44:29Sergeant Fletcher.
44:32So,
44:33we think
44:34Giles knew
44:34that if he tied
44:36those ropes
44:36around his body
44:37tightly enough,
44:38then leave red
44:39markings.
44:40Friction burn.
44:41And therefore,
44:42when his body
44:43was found,
44:43he hoped this
44:44would also
44:44explain his
44:46internal injuries,
44:47the bruising.
44:48All so it
44:49would misdirect
44:50from you,
44:51Mr. Lyons.
44:53Any similarities
44:54to the Luska
44:55was a coincidence.
44:57If that's what
44:57happened,
44:58why was his body
44:59found floating
45:00on the surface?
45:01Because of this.
45:04As Giles sank
45:06to the seabed,
45:07by some quirk
45:08of fate,
45:09he saw
45:10this bullet.
45:12Maybe
45:12it got caught
45:14under a rock
45:14or wedged
45:16in some coral.
45:17We can't be sure,
45:19but there it was,
45:21a single bullet
45:23in the same spot
45:25his son went missing.
45:26And after his
45:28recent discovery
45:28of the smuggling
45:29that was going
45:30on out at sea,
45:31not far from
45:32the same spot,
45:33Giles was already
45:34beginning to suspect
45:35that his son's,
45:36your son's disappearance
45:37might have been
45:38for more sinister reasons.
45:40Is it to do
45:41with Benjamin's
45:42disappearance?
45:43Maybe.
45:45So we believe
45:46he loosened
45:47the rope,
45:48grabbed the bullet,
45:49and allowed himself
45:51to float to the surface,
45:52determined
45:53to cling to life
45:55as long as possible.
45:57But by then,
45:58it was already
45:59too late for him
46:00to climb back
46:00on board his boat.
46:02So with his life
46:03ebbing away,
46:04Giles did one last thing.
46:06One final attempt
46:07to let everyone know
46:08what he discovered
46:08on the seabed.
46:12He threw this bullet
46:14onto the deck.
46:15A message from him
46:17to us
46:17to not give up
46:18on his son.
46:19But maybe
46:21Ben's killer
46:22was still out there.
46:24That's what you meant
46:25about the bullet
46:25helping with the past.
46:27My son's case.
46:31And has it?
46:40That bullet we found,
46:43it turns out
46:44it's been sat
46:45on the seabed
46:46for the last seven years
46:48in the exact same location,
46:51Giles and Kara's son
46:52went missing.
46:54It was fired
46:55from your gun
46:56to kill
46:58Benjamin Parry.
47:00But he drowned at sea.
47:02Why are you no saying
47:03he was shot?
47:10This photograph
47:12was taken
47:13the day before
47:14Benjamin went missing.
47:16It's of him
47:18and his father
47:18outside your office.
47:22And this
47:23was taken
47:24by one of the
47:25Guadalupe police officers
47:26the day after
47:28he disappeared.
47:29your witness statement
47:32is unremarkable
47:34in every way
47:35apart from
47:37this photograph.
47:39I had to get
47:40the magnifying glass
47:42out
47:42to really notice.
47:44But
47:45in this photograph
47:46of Benjamin
47:48and his father,
47:49the wall
47:50behind your desk
47:51is set
47:52farther back
47:53from the window
47:54than it is
47:55in this photograph
47:57of you
47:58where it appears
47:5940 or 50 centimeters
48:01closer to it.
48:03Which
48:04left me wondering
48:05why
48:06less than
48:0748 hours later
48:10your office
48:11had seemingly
48:13shrunk.
48:15The only conclusion
48:16I could draw
48:17was because
48:18a new wall
48:19had been built.
48:21Leaving
48:21Benjamin's body
48:23at sea
48:23would have meant
48:24there was a possibility
48:26he could be formed.
48:28And
48:28if he was
48:30then it would be
48:31discovered
48:32that he'd been
48:33shot.
48:35Whereas
48:36if you hid
48:37his body
48:38and
48:39everybody assumed
48:40he drowned at sea
48:41then
48:42maybe you'd
48:44get away with it.
48:48But where
48:49to hide it?
48:50we have a team
48:52at your office
48:53as we speak
48:54about to
48:55tear down
48:57that wall.
48:59So
48:59if
49:00I'm wrong
49:01about what's been
49:02hidden behind it
49:03the last seven years
49:04you have nothing
49:05to worry about.
49:07But
49:08if I am right
49:10now is your chance
49:12to start talking.
49:26That morning
49:29seven years ago
49:32it was real early
49:36but when I got back up
49:37with the day's delivery
49:40he was there
49:41recording me
49:42on his phone
49:44for evidence
49:47I mean
49:47stupid idiot
49:49why would you
49:50do that
49:50because you left
49:51me no choice
49:53I had to act
49:54fast
49:56so I got
49:56the lockbox
49:57which you moved
49:59to a new location
50:00two miles away
50:02where your
50:03smuggling
50:04continued
50:05until Giles Parry
50:07discovered
50:08what you were doing
50:09all these years
50:10and Benjamin
50:12Parry's body
50:17I took it ashore
50:21I put him
50:23in one of the cases
50:25with all the diving gear
50:27it's airtight
50:29so
50:30I spent the whole day
50:32getting everything
50:33I needed
50:34for that wall
50:35I spent the whole night
50:38building it
50:40and I have lived with it
50:41every day since
50:43Mind how you go?
50:45And y'all let me know
50:47how it went
50:47you're with real pirate royalty
50:49now
50:51knowing that poor boy
50:52is stuck behind
50:54that wall
50:55will haunt me
50:56forever
51:02Galvin Mason
51:03I'm arresting you
51:05for the murder
51:06of Benjamin Parry
51:07you do not have
51:08to say anything
51:09but it may harm
51:10your defense
51:10if you do not mention
51:12my question
51:12something that you
51:14do
51:21this call
51:22is from a person
51:23currently in prison
51:24in Antigua
51:28Solomon
51:29Merriven
51:29I know you said
51:31you didn't want
51:31anything to do
51:32with me no more
51:32but this isn't about me
51:33it's about Eloise
51:35I know she ran away
51:36from her aunt
51:37and came to you
51:37because she doesn't
51:38like it there
51:39no it's because
51:40you told her
51:40you were innocent
51:41and I'd get you out
51:42you lied to her
51:43maybe I was a bit
51:44free and easy
51:45with the truth
51:45but she's there
51:47because she needs you
51:48she doesn't even
51:49know me
51:49she does a bit
51:51I told her some things
51:54that you were
51:56a good man
51:58Solomon
51:59I can't
52:00you are a man
52:02I know I'm not
52:04I have made a mess
52:05of pretty much
52:05everything in my life
52:06but that's why
52:07I'm asking you
52:08this one thing
52:09this one fever
52:12her mom and aunt
52:13are cool
52:13but she's her dad's
52:15girl you know
52:16me and her
52:18we're something special
52:21and her stupid father
52:22has got himself
52:23stuck in prison
52:23so what
52:25she really needs
52:26her uncle
52:26in her life
52:27right now
52:29because you're
52:29the closest thing
52:30she's got to me
52:40so that's the queen
52:42she's the one
52:43to keep her eye on
52:44all you have to do
52:45is find the lady
53:04wrong again
53:06was
53:07here
53:08all along
53:25I've had people
53:25arrested in Covent Garden
53:26for that you know
53:28your dad taught you
53:29I assume
53:33look
53:33I'm
53:35I'm not good
53:35at this kind of thing
53:37okay
53:38maybe because I've never
53:39been an uncle before
53:44what I'm trying to tell you
53:45you don't know
53:46what you're doing
53:49when you haven't had
53:50a proper family
53:51in your life
53:53like I haven't
53:55you kind of grow up
53:57assuming people
53:57don't want you
53:59or need you
54:00but
54:01when you came to me
54:02I should have been there
54:03for you
54:03and I'm sorry
54:04that I wasn't
54:07but if you're up
54:08for
54:09giving your uncle Merv
54:10a second chance
54:11then
54:13maybe we can try again
54:15and I can get to know
54:16my niece properly
54:18because however
54:18it might have looked
54:21I would really
54:23really like that
54:25you wanna shake on it
54:27we can do better
54:29than that
54:31after all this time
54:33I've given up
54:34any hope
54:34of my son's body
54:35being returned to me
54:37so to stand here
54:39knowing
54:39my boy
54:41will be returned home
54:42to England
54:43it means the world
54:44to me
54:45so I'd like to thank
54:47the St. Marie Police Force
54:49for all their hard work
54:51in achieving this
54:52it's a divert
54:53from Stacia
54:53when all hope
54:54is lost
54:55it's a night
54:57so I'd never get the answer
54:58it's so good
55:01but I'd especially
55:02like to thank
55:04Commissioner Selwyn Patterson
55:06for uncovering a truth

55:09was able to
55:11and we'll be forever grateful
55:19that's good man
55:20it's for you
