00:17Welcome to the Kelly Clarkson Show, y'all.
00:20Today we are getting started with the Kelly Oakey Encore
00:22that's especially moving to me.
00:24I first heard this song on this show
00:26when Jeff Daniels actually came by.
00:28He's not just a talented actor,
00:29he's an incredible singer-songwriter as well.
00:31Here's me and Jocko with Jeff's
00:33When My Fingers Find Your Strings.
00:40You were there when I was falling
00:43You were there when I fell in love
00:46You were there when I was thinking
00:48All them things I was thinking of
00:51You were always right beside me
00:54Never out of sight
00:56You turned my never-evers into maybe I just might
01:01Your pearly gates fly open
01:04When I bow my head and pray
01:07My thunder turns to lightning
01:09You ain't sunshine on my day
01:12When that melody's in me
01:15I can hear your choir sing
01:20When my fingers find your strings
01:27You're the sunrise in my morning
01:30You're the warm wind through the night
01:32You dance me through my darkness
01:35And you lead me through my eyes
01:37And you lead me to the light
01:37You answer all my questions
01:40And you finish what I start
01:43And when I'm at a loss for words
01:46You find them in my heart
01:48Lord, I hold you on so carefully
01:51Handle you with care
01:54I'll never leave without you
01:56I just take you everywhere
01:58We both know I'm less without you
02:02We both know it's plain to see
02:04I ain't holding you, my friend
02:07It's you who's holding me
02:09Your pearly gates fly open
02:12When I bow my head and pray
02:15My thunder turns to lightning
02:17You ain't sunshine on my day
02:20When that melody's in me
02:23I can hear your choir sing
02:28When my fingers find your strings
02:37One more time, give it up for Joe for one more time
02:46Dad jokes, it's awesome
02:48Okay, let's get to our first guest
02:50You know her from the Hunger Games
02:52And Pitch Perfect film series
02:53She's an Emmy-nominated actress
02:55As well as a filmmaker, producer, winemaker
02:58And even a game show host
02:59She does anything you need
03:00Her latest series is called
03:02The Miniature Wife
03:03Where she plays a six-inch version of herself
03:05You can see it now on Peacock
03:07Please welcome Elizabeth Banks
03:29You always look so fresh and beautiful and rock and roll
03:34What an amazing welcome for me
03:35This is the crowd
03:36This is for you
03:37No, that was you
03:38Then you when I came out
03:39I was gonna say, yeah, I'm just kidding
03:41You were very kind to me
03:42You are very kind
03:43Very kind
03:43And gorgeous
03:44You look very fresh
03:45I heard you just go back
03:46Is it Spain?
03:47Were you there?
03:48I did
03:48We just did spring break in Spain
03:49Yeah
03:50My kids are learning Spanish
03:52And we thought, well, we should go immerse them a little bit
03:56At least make them try to, like, order and, you know
03:58Yeah
03:58Get a little practice
04:00We have a friend who lives in Madrid
04:02So we went to Barcelona and Madrid
04:04We just did the cities
04:05Yeah
04:06My husband, after about four spring breaks of beach vacations
04:10Decided the kids need more culture
04:12Yeah
04:13So we have to actually
04:14We can't just go to the beach and lie down
04:15Which is all I wanted to do, by the way
04:17Yeah
04:18It's so funny
04:18My family did that
04:19Me and my kids did that, too
04:20We went to China and Japan
04:22And didn't do a beach thing
04:23Yes
04:24And they were like, it would be nice to find a beach
04:26And I was like, whatever
04:27They loved it
04:28We did all the museums
04:30We saw, you know
04:31When you go to Barcelona, you're there for Gaudi
04:33Who is sort of the Spanish Leonardo
04:37I almost said Leonardo DiCaprio
04:38Yeah
04:38Leonardo Di Vinci
04:40Di Vinci
04:40Yeah, the OG Leonardo
04:42The OG Leonardo, yeah
04:43Yeah
04:43You know, so they got to see the Sagrada Familia
04:47Yeah
04:47And Parc Guel
04:48And like all these amazing cultural institutions in Spain
04:51It was an incredible trip
04:52I saw you did something that we both have done
04:54You went up with a fighter jet, right?
04:56In a fighter jet?
04:57I did and I heard you
04:57You also went up in a fighter jet
05:00What was your experience like?
05:02Well, so I don't know how yours was
05:04But you have to spend a little time sort of prepping to go in, right?
05:09And the prep
05:09This is me
05:10Yeah, there I am
05:11We went up
05:12Yeah, Maverick
05:13You're basically riding a rocket
05:15My husband got to walk me out to it
05:18And as he was saying goodbye to me
05:19He was like, don't be a hero
05:22And I was
05:24I think he was worried I was just going to puke everything up
05:26Yeah
05:26So one thing to tell you is
05:27You can eat a banana
05:29Because it looks the same going in as coming back out
05:31Yeah, yeah
05:32Okay, that was one tip they gave me
05:34The other thing was all about
05:35I don't know if you remember
05:36It was a five-point, like, harness
05:38Yep
05:38And you go out
05:39And we, I mean, I think we crossed two states in, like, ten minutes
05:43And they have to burn off all this fuel
05:45Because they told me when you come back for the landing
05:47They don't want to have a lot of gas in the tank
05:49Because what if the plane catches fire?
05:51They don't want, like, a fireball
05:53And they tell you this right before you go out to go
05:55They tell you right before you go
05:55They're like, so when we land, we got to burn it off
05:58Like what?
05:59And how about, then they're like, you're in the mask
06:01You have a mask on, you're like this
06:02You can see, like, right here
06:03And they're like, okay, let's practice taking your harness off
06:06So you can get out of the plane, like, quick
06:08In case it's literally on fire
06:10I can't even, I can't even see where the harness is
06:14But I was like, well, I guess this is it for me in this plane
06:17Did you puke?
06:19I did not puke
06:20Okay
06:20And I did about seven and a half G's, I want to say
06:25Okay
06:25So, like, I felt really cool at, like, six, seven G's
06:29Because they're, like, you get past seven, eight, nine
06:33It's like, you're out
06:33You're, like, passed out
06:35It is the craziest thing you could do
06:37The fact that they do that for a living and on the daily is bananas
06:40I mean, literally bananas
06:41But, you know, you go up like this
06:43You take off and then you barrel roll upside down and out of it
06:47So, like, you're upside down and rolling within 20 seconds
06:50You have no idea what you're doing
06:51You have no idea what you're doing
06:52And, yeah, so we did a barrel
06:54He had the same thing
06:55We was like, let's do, let's do a trick
06:57So we do, like, a barrel roll
06:59And I basically said, if you go again, I will throw up
07:01Like, I could feel it coming
07:03I did well, and then I did well with one
07:05And then it was the last one
07:06And he actually hit a certain amount of G's
07:08Because he said, oh, if you don't mind not telling anyone
07:14He was like, we actually hit a little further than we're supposed to
07:17Or I hit a little harder or whatever
07:18And I was like, I'm not going to tell anyone
07:20But I feel really cool
07:21Yeah, you should
07:22That's what I'm saying
07:23I was, like, taking track of, like, how many G's we got
07:26Um, anyway, so your boys
07:28I have to say, are they, do they watch your movies?
07:31Are they, are they, like, famed?
07:32Do they know?
07:33They have started, like, they've watched The Hunger Games
07:35And they've watched Pitch Perfect
07:36There's really only one that I'm, like, I don't love the idea of them watching
07:41Which is the 40-year-old virgin
07:42Oh
07:43So the 40-year-old virgin
07:45Mommy has a real good time in the bathtub
07:48Like, solo in the bathtub
07:50What a role
07:50And not that we don't speak openly
07:52We're a sex-positive family
07:54So, like, we speak openly about these things
07:55But I don't know that they need to see their mom, like, actually doing any of that stuff
07:58Yeah, yeah
07:59You know?
07:59It's a little traumatic
08:00Like, let's not put that visual in there
08:02Yeah, yeah
08:02So I haven't had them watch it
08:04But I had a friend call me to say that their son
08:06Who's one of my son's best friends
08:08Oh, no
08:08He's like, I hate to tell you, but someone took a sleepover
08:11And he watched the 40-year-old virgin
08:13And he might look at you differently now
08:15And, like, I'm like his Auntie Liz, you know
08:18And I truly can't look this kid in the eye anymore
08:22And you know he told your son
08:24I don't know
08:25You know for sure
08:26I actually think he's traumatized
08:28And has said nothing
08:29No words to anyone in my family
08:31He's just, like, not speaking about it
08:32I think he's, like, pretending it never happened
08:33Oh, that's amazing
08:34Yeah, I'm, like, serving him dinner
08:36Like, huh?
08:37And I'm just imagining, like, what's in his mind's eye
08:39Of, like, me, like
08:40Woo, diddle, diddle
08:42Oh, my God
08:43Yeah
08:44Oh, my God
08:44I hope your kids never watch it
08:46Okay, we need to take a short break
08:47Let's get an audience member to help us out
08:49Hi, Kelly
08:50I'm Priya
08:51Elizabeth
08:51I'm a huge fan of The Hunger Games
08:53Also love you
08:54As the host of the game show
08:56Press Your Luck
08:57I really think you should do an episode
08:59Of Press Your Luck
09:00Dressed as a character
09:01From The Hunger Games
09:02Maybe
09:02It would make a lot of sense
09:04In 2026
09:05Because we're all living
09:07In the real life
09:08Hunger Games
09:09Just an idea
09:10More with Kelly and Elizabeth
09:12After the break
09:22I am not okay
09:24It works
09:25I can hear you
09:26You're too loud
09:28Sorry
09:29Well, now I can't hear you
09:32How about now?
09:33No, too loud
09:34Now?
09:36Softer
09:36Now?
09:38Better
09:39I hate this f***ing thing
09:44Can you hear me now?
09:46Say again
09:47Can you hear me now?
09:49Yes!
09:50Oh!
09:52We were back with Elizabeth Banks
09:54That was another look at her new series
09:55The Peacock
09:56It's called The Miniature Wife
09:58And all ten episodes are streaming now
10:00We're also enjoying some of her Archer
10:02Ruth Wine
10:03Yes, Archer Ruth Wine
10:05I know, I chose this
10:06I chose the Pinot Noir
10:07I love the Pinot Noir
10:08Is that your favorite?
10:09I like it chill
10:09The Pinot Noir
10:10I'm having the Bubbly Rosé
10:11I like the Bubbly Rosé
10:12And the Rosé
10:12And the Sauvignon Blanc
10:13And the Pinot Noir
10:14And the Malbec
10:15That's good
10:16Isn't it yummy?
10:17Yes, it is
10:18I know
10:18I should probably try it again
10:19Archer Ruth's luxury wine in a can
10:22We're sort of
10:23What I fell in love with
10:24About this company
10:25Really is the innovation
10:26We like to remind people
10:27That like 25 years ago
10:2980% of beer was sold in bottles
10:32And now 80% of beer is sold in cans
10:34Yeah
10:34And we've all seen
10:35Over the last like decade
10:37Corks becoming like
10:39Nah, we don't have as many corks
10:40Everything's a screw top
10:41And everyone's like
10:42Well, that's not good
10:42And now we're like
10:43Yeah, all wine with a screw top
10:44Fine
10:44Yeah
10:45The fact of the matter
10:46Is that you cannot recycle glass
10:48In every municipality
10:49But aluminum you can
10:50You can crush it down
10:52It weighs nothing
10:52It's really good
10:53In all kinds of scenarios
10:55But we're on Princess Cruise Lines
10:56And JetBlue Airlines
10:57And all your favorite hotels
10:59And restaurants
10:59Especially here in New York
11:00So
11:01Archer Ruth, check it out
11:02The easy travel as well
11:03Oh, it's a traveler
11:04Yeah
11:05We call it a traveler
11:05Oh my God, I love it
11:06So wait, let's talk about
11:07Your new show though
11:08So you play a writer
11:09Who accidentally gets shrunk
11:11Yes
11:11By my crazy scientist husband
11:15Yes
11:15Has been working on a formula
11:17For shrinking things
11:18He thinks he's going to solve
11:19World hunger
11:20And instead
11:21He shrinks his wife
11:24There's so many jokes there
11:27There are
11:28And we have a lot of them
11:30And we play
11:30It's a very funny show
11:32But what I really was drawn to
11:34Was we get to sort of talk about
11:36A big feeling
11:37Which is feeling diminished
11:39By a partner
11:40Or, you know
11:42In your professional life
11:43Your romantic life
11:44I think we all have
11:45That relatable experience
11:46Of being made to feel small
11:47Yeah
11:47Every once in a while
11:48And in this case
11:49It's literal
11:50Physical
11:51And physical
11:51And we get to sort of
11:53Look at that
11:54From an absurdist lens
11:55But talk about something
11:57You know
11:57A really big issue
11:58That I think people
11:59Understand
12:00Yeah
12:00And relate to for sure
12:02Yeah
12:02Yeah
12:02In your career
12:03You had to have had
12:04Multiple times
12:05Where you were made
12:06To feel small
12:07Sure
12:07I feel all of us have
12:08Yeah
12:08No matter what you do
12:10Also
12:11I mean
12:11Yes
12:12I mean
12:12I was literally told once
12:13I direct films
12:14And I was told
12:15Like
12:16You can't direct men
12:17They won't follow you
12:18Well thank you
12:19For instance
12:20Cool
12:20And then I directed
12:21Ray Liotta
12:22Who played Henry Hill
12:23In Goodfellas
12:24And I felt like
12:24I think I nailed it
12:26Check all that stuff
12:26Yeah
12:27It's all good
12:27Does it kind of
12:30It shouldn't have to be like this
12:32But does it kind of
12:33Fuel your fire
12:34Yeah
12:34Of course
12:35Because they tell me
12:36Yeah
12:36They're like
12:36Well you can't do that
12:37I'm like
12:37Bitch
12:38Watch it
12:39I'm like
12:40This energy
12:41No that's why
12:41I'm like
12:42You just like
12:42Made it the red button
12:44Yeah
12:44But I'm totally
12:45Totally gonna press
12:45Yeah yeah
12:46You've directed
12:47And produced many
12:47Female forward projects
12:49So in what way
12:50Do you want to inspire
12:51Other women
12:52In creative spaces
12:53Because you have been
12:53So successful
12:54You're so great
12:55At what you do
12:55But you know
12:56It's also important
12:57To turn around
12:57And help others too
12:59Right
12:59So in those creative spaces
13:00And stories
13:01Yeah if the door gets open
13:02Make sure you put your hand back
13:03And pull other people
13:04Through the door with you
13:05Yeah yeah yeah
13:07I feel really lucky
13:09I also
13:09I've always said
13:10You know
13:11I'm not
13:11I'm not trying to like
13:12Particularly change the world
13:13I'm just trying to lead by example
13:14Yeah
13:15And also I stand on the show
13:16There's just so many women
13:17Who came before me
13:18There are a lot of actress
13:19Directors actually
13:20Out there
13:20I mean Barbara Streisand
13:21Comes to mind
13:22She made some bangers
13:23They were nominated
13:24For best picture
13:25You know
13:25She faces
13:26What
13:26And you know
13:28I think her
13:29Jodie Foster
13:30Drew Barrymore
13:31I mean
13:31So despite me knowing
13:33That I'm in a great club
13:34It's a really small club
13:36And it needs more representation
13:37Like we need more storytellers
13:39From different perspectives
13:40Angles
13:41Whatever
13:41And we need more audiences
13:42To watch
13:43And what's great
13:44Is there's a lot more
13:45Equity and parody on TV
13:46Like The Miniature Wife
13:47Starring me
13:48And we're having a lot of
13:50You know
13:50So I'm having a lot of fun
13:51Making sure that women
13:52Have a real sense of agency
13:54In whatever they're doing
13:55Whatever stories I'm telling
13:56Yeah
13:56You
13:58You've
13:59Had a lot of props
14:00To work with
14:00Yes
14:01Because everything in this
14:02In this series
14:03Is like
14:04It's huge
14:05But it's small things
14:06Actually in real life
14:07What was that like
14:08Well
14:08So because I'm six inches tall
14:09And I mostly had to shoot
14:11That on a green screen
14:12And every once in a while
14:14In order to give me
14:15A sense of reality
14:16You're not performing
14:17To a tennis ball
14:18Don't tell me
14:18I am
14:19I hate when y'all tell me that
14:22All the actors
14:23Always say they're performing
14:23To tennis balls
14:24I'm like
14:24I mean I know you're actors
14:25But that sucks
14:27It's very vulnerable
14:28And I'm not someone
14:30I'm like
14:30This isn't the actor's studio
14:31So I don't really need
14:32To get in the whole process
14:33Of it all
14:33But you know
14:35It's a very vulnerable thing
14:37Already to be like
14:38I'm an actor
14:38And here I'm doing
14:39Some like you know
14:40Funny things
14:41Now I'm doing it by myself
14:42In a space alone
14:43No
14:44Pretending that my scene
14:45Partner's there
14:45And he's like
14:46Literally on vacation
14:47Yeah
14:48So it was really vulnerable
14:50But to help me
14:51The prop department
14:52Would build real
14:54Giant size props
14:55So I would watch
14:55Matthew McFadyen
14:56Who plays my husband
14:57In the series
14:58Yeah
14:59No big
15:00Big one
15:01He won succession
15:03You know
15:04That's what he's famous for
15:04Tom Williamscan
15:05And so
15:07He
15:09I would watch a scene
15:10With him
15:11And he would have a prop
15:12Like he would have
15:13A coffee mug
15:13Or at one point
15:15A toilet plunger
15:16And then I would walk
15:18Into a room
15:18And there would be
15:19A two and a half story
15:20Toilet plunger
15:21Exact replica
15:23That's kind
15:23That's helpful
15:24Like 30 feet tall
15:25That now I'm going
15:26To interact with
15:27Yeah
15:27To like intercut
15:28With him
15:28With the toilet plunger
15:29They were amazing
15:30Like that
15:31That's kind
15:31Because like
15:32Coming in and picturing that
15:33It's like
15:33I don't even know
15:34What that looks like
15:35I thought
15:35I was going to be
15:36Just on like
15:36A green stick
15:37And instead
15:38I have a toilet plunger
15:39That's cool
15:39They also made me
15:40A six foot tall
15:41Hershey bar
15:43That was actually edible
15:44That I could nibble on
15:45For like a week
15:45And I barely made a dent in it
15:46Yeah
15:47You know
15:48I had
15:48They made a popcorn kernel
15:50That was like
15:51This big
15:52One kernel of popcorn
15:53Yeah
15:53There it is
15:54That's my kernel of popcorn
15:55That was edible
15:56I ate that
15:57It was made out of sugar
15:58And doesn't it look amazing
15:59Yes
15:59I know
16:00And like
16:01That's a post-it note
16:02Meant to be a post-it note
16:03In the background there
16:03That's the actual size
16:04Of a post-it note
16:05There was a lot of math
16:06I was going to say
16:06There's so much math
16:07Going on here
16:08That it upsets me
16:08I would get overwhelmed
16:10You're this big
16:11And you're this big
16:12So yeah
16:13Those are like
16:14Real post-it notes
16:14Blown up to like
16:15The size that I would be
16:16Next to a post-it note
16:18Very great math
16:19That's like when you're
16:19In the group project
16:20And you're like
16:20Yeah
16:21So like
16:21If it was this big
16:22And this big
16:22Then it would be
16:24It would be
16:24Yeah six
16:25That's what I was thinking
16:26Six
16:26I was always the presenter
16:28Of the project
16:28Right
16:29I was like
16:29You know
16:29I'll do the talking
16:30But like
16:31You do the math part
16:32And then I'll present
16:32Yeah
16:33I'd like finish with them
16:34Like six
16:35That's what I was going to say
16:36That's what I was going to say
17:00So when this came about
17:02I was like
17:02I grew up on Press Your Luck
17:03I loved Peter Tamarkin
17:05I loved the Rammy
17:06I was like so into it
17:07And then I started shooting
17:11And I was
17:12I was crying
17:13With these contestants
17:14Like I get to give people
17:15Life-changing money
17:17And these are
17:17These are nurses
17:18And first responders
17:20And teachers
17:21You know
17:21That we pull from
17:22Incredible contestants
17:23From all over the country
17:25And we're basically
17:26Like oh you want a car
17:27Here's a car
17:28Like you know
17:29Like
17:30I don't think there's
17:31A better job
17:32In Hollywood
17:32It's Oprah
17:33I get to be Oprah
17:34On Press Your Luck
17:34Like it's so fun
17:35So I absolutely love it
17:37I hope I get to do it
17:39A long time
17:40It's one of my favorite
17:41Things to do
17:41And I hope everyone watches
17:42Because we have a great time
17:43On Press Your Luck
17:44I love games
17:45I love that whole environment
17:46It's so much fun
17:48Have you ever done
17:48The Hollywood game night?
17:50I've done that a couple times
17:51I've never done it
17:52Oh my god
17:52I loved it so much
17:53I think I was a lot
17:55For them
17:55I think they were like
17:56You need to calm down
17:58I would be
17:59Yeah almost too competitive
18:00And what
18:00Somebody actually thought
18:01That I was drunk
18:02And I hadn't had a sip
18:04I was like
18:04This is literally who I am
18:06I was like
18:07I don't know what that says
18:09When someone thinks
18:10You're hammered
18:11We need another
18:12You're welcome mom
18:14We need another break
18:15The miniature wife
18:15Is out now on Peacock
18:17And speaking of games
18:18Elizabeth and I play
18:19What's Creeping Up On Me
18:20Next
18:21We'll be right back
18:33Welcome back
18:34Elizabeth Banks is here with us
18:36Her new series is called
18:38The Miniature Wife
18:38You can catch it now on Peacock
18:40In the show
18:41Elizabeth is shrunken
18:42Which means a lot of everyday things
18:44Become huge and scary
18:46Which naturally calls
18:47For a round of
18:48What's Creeping Up On Me
18:51What's Creeping Up On Me
18:55Elizabeth is going to start
18:56With her back to the screen
18:58And I'm going to give her clues
19:00About what huge tiny things
19:02Are creeping up behind her
19:03Without saying the name
19:04Of said thing
19:05Then we're going to switch sides
19:07And Elizabeth
19:08I love you're acting it out
19:09With me
19:09I can see you
19:10And Elizabeth
19:11She's ready
19:12She's going to give me clues
19:13We're going to switch
19:13And we can pass
19:14If anything is too hard
19:15If we can correctly guess
19:17Ten creepy things
19:18In two rounds
19:19We win the pride and joy
19:20Of being able to identify
19:22Lots of creepy things
19:23I want that
19:24I want that pride and joy
19:25That's the pride I want
19:25I want it
19:26Okay let's start
19:27The clock
19:28Here we go
19:29Okay
19:29Okay
19:30Oh you can get bitten by them
19:32Like at a playground
19:33There's a lot of them
19:34They're very strong
19:35They can
19:36Yeah
19:39This is the smallest dog ever
19:41A Chihuahua?
19:43Okay
19:43But it was dirty
19:46So it
19:46Dirty Chihuahua?
19:47Oh no wait
19:48No it moved on
19:49Oh these you build
19:50You build them with your kids
19:51Legos?
19:52Yes
19:53And then you
19:55Oh this isn't
19:56It isn't a centipede
19:57It's another type of
19:58Millipede?
19:59Yep
19:59Yep
20:01And then this is
20:03Oh they're in Toy Story
20:05There's a lot of them
20:05They're green
20:06Oh
20:08I don't know
20:09Oh the toy soldier
20:10We switch
20:10Is that what it was?
20:11Yeah
20:11Toy soldier and attend
20:12I don't know if we can do
20:13The whole thing
20:16I feel like the centipede millipede
20:18I was kind of given
20:19Half of that answer
20:20Yeah I don't know
20:20If I'm allowed to say that
20:21I just
20:22I panicked
20:24So I panicked
20:25So we don't have to count that one
20:26Oh well here comes me panicking
20:28I have no idea
20:28What's about to happen
20:29This will be fun
20:30Alright
20:30Okay
20:30We need six more
20:32Okay
20:33Winners
20:33We got this baby
20:34We're winners
20:34I got it
20:35I got it
20:35Okay we gotta go fast
20:36Here we go
20:39You use them to put something together
20:41With a
20:42Oh a screwdriver
20:43Screw
20:43Screw
20:47You don't want this in your kitchen sink at night
20:50You wake up
20:51You turn the light on
20:52And there's a blank running across the floor
20:54A rat mouse
20:55It's an insect cover
20:58You eat them
20:59They come on a treat
21:02It's like almonds, cashews
21:04Nuts
21:09Like walnuts
21:10Walnuts
21:10Walnuts
21:10Walnuts
21:10Walnuts
21:11Walnuts
21:14Oh it goes really slow up and has its own house
21:17It brings its own house with it
21:22It has its own house and it goes really slow up and out
21:27Like it's like a spiral house
21:29Like a worm house on its back
21:29Snail
21:30Yes
21:33You eat them for breakfast
21:35Kellogg's
21:36Cereal
21:36The actual one
21:38Not cage
21:39We don't eat cereal
21:40We
21:40They have no sugar
21:42Special K
21:43No the other one
21:43Or Cheerios
21:44No the ones that are like
21:46Snow
21:46Flakes
21:47Flakes
21:48Yes
21:49Is that it?
21:52Okay no
21:53They buzz around
21:54Bees
21:55Bees
21:55Okay
21:56We did it
21:57We did it
21:59We did it
21:59We did it
22:00Okay okay okay okay
22:03She's like we don't eat cereal
22:05Okay
22:05No
22:06Don't eat cereal
22:07Everybody give it up once more for Elizabeth Banks
22:14We'll be right back
22:16We'll be right back
22:29Welcome back y'all
22:31We've seen our next guest as a prince in Into the Woods
22:34As a prince in the live action Aladdin
22:36And with a little promotion as the king in Spy Kids Armageddon
22:40Right now he stars as a tech CEO involved in a bit of a scandal on the new series The
22:44Audacity
22:45New episodes drop Sundays on AMC and AMC Plus
22:49If I could find a private placement investor Someone whose reputation for picking winners is so stellar
22:56And here you are
22:57I mean
22:59So I gotta ask like how about us?
23:02And maybe hypernosis is how you get back in the game?
23:06Double rainbow
23:07I mean with a forward facing data analytics company we could really make something
23:18What the f***
23:22The f*** is blowing
23:24Oh my god
23:27What?
23:29Please welcome Billy Magnussen
23:48I'm gonna move this to the side and put these right here
23:52It's like therapy session
23:53Oh I like
23:54I know right?
23:55Lay down tell me all about
23:56No congratulations you just got engaged
23:58I did I did
23:59Thank you so much
24:00That's exciting
24:02She's probably like why didn't you bring me flowers this morning?
24:05Yeah that's alright
24:06Lesson to learn you can do it every day now
24:07Yeah
24:08Let's talk about the Audacity
24:09Yeah what do you want to talk about?
24:10So what kind of world is it?
24:11Because that's really messed up man the clip
24:14Yeah
24:14Yeah
24:16Again Jonathan Glatzer created this world
24:18I don't know if you know there's this little place called Silicon Valley
24:21Yes
24:22Heard of it
24:22And there's a few people we know that exist in this world right?
24:26Yep
24:27And they can make good choices and mistakes
24:29And it affects 7.2 billion people
24:33Don't you want to know about these people?
24:35Yeah
24:35What they're doing and how unique they are
24:37Sometimes I don't think I do
24:39Yeah
24:40Yeah
24:40Sometimes I'm like I don't know if ignorance is bliss you know?
24:43I don't know
24:44The impact I mean tech is a part of our lives daily
24:46Yeah
24:47And what they're doing with it
24:49Yeah
24:49What they're doing with it
24:50Yeah
24:50I think you should not accept cookies
24:52Yeah
24:53Yeah
24:53Like I love cookies
24:54I love a cookie
24:55Yeah
24:55But what do you think about tech like especially after being a part of this project?
24:58Um
24:59Again
25:00Every industry is built by people
25:31People
25:33Something beautiful
25:33Something amazing
25:34Pure
25:34They're pure
25:35They're pure
25:35And then they realize they can make a lot of money doing this
25:38Yeah
25:39And they're like but no no we gotta do the right thing
25:41But that's a lot of money
25:42Yeah
25:43And you slowly see how these beautiful minds kind of slowly got tarnished
25:48Get infected
25:48Yeah
25:49Toxic in there
25:50Yeah
25:50And that's kind of our show
25:51I love playing it every day
25:53Well that's scary as hell
25:54Yeah
25:54Oh Hank that's awesome
25:56Yeah
25:56So wait you screened this for real tech CEOs
25:58So what did they say?
26:00Cause it's just for authenticity
26:01Um
26:02Yeah we brought it to San Fran to some of these people and they're like
26:06Everyone's like yeah yeah I know that guy I know that guy you are that guy
26:11And so
26:12They're all like I know him but not
26:14Everyone knows him but they won't admit that that's them
26:16Those are called narcissists
26:18Yeah yeah
26:18Oh you met a few
26:19When they're totally not aware
26:21Yeah they're unaware of like that's amazing
26:23Oh my gosh
26:23No we have we have to stop
26:25Thank you so much for the flowers
26:26It was very sweet
26:27Yeah and congratulations on everything
26:28Yeah
26:29Alright we just stopped for another break
26:31Everybody you can catch the Audacity on AMC and AMC Plus
26:34New episodes drop every Sunday
26:35We are talking rescue donkeys next we'll be right back
26:49Welcome back
26:50A few years ago our next guest was a senior vice president for the Media Empire Time Inc.
26:56He used to say he was living the dream or what he thought was the dream
26:59Then it all came crashing down he lost his job and what he believed was his purpose
27:03Now he's found new purpose with a major life pivot like major rescuing donkeys
27:08To date he's taken in nearly 500 donkeys
27:11Let's welcome from Oscar's Place and the ABC series Donkey King Ron
27:15What's up?
27:17I love donkeys
27:19I've actually had a couple of donkeys at a rescue ranch they're so they're so beautiful
27:23But before we get into it and how you got into that tell us what was life like before this
27:26So I used to be a senior vice president at Time Inc.
27:29Yeah
27:29Literally across the street from here
27:30Yeah
27:32And you know it was a very cool and fun life that did come crashing down
27:36It was a little bit of the implosion of Time Inc. or print media
27:40So I was really good at my job
27:43I didn't network very much
27:45And so no one really knew how good I was
27:49And then when I went to look for jobs nobody wanted to hire me
27:52And what I realized is I had aged out so I was
27:55I get a lot of Botox but I was 51 at the time
27:59And nobody was interested in hiring a 51 year old print guy
28:02And I couldn't find work
28:03Yeah
28:04So it was scary
28:05Where did the I gotta know
28:07Where did the pivot like how did donkeys enter the picture
28:10Yeah
28:10Like I love it I'm down
28:12I just am like where did that come from?
28:14So one of my very best friends in the world who's with me today named Evelyn Webster
28:19She used to ask me all the time
28:21Especially when I was down
28:23What brings you joy?
28:25Yeah
28:25And then I was scrolling TikTok
28:28And these TikTok algorithms are really smart
28:30So my TikTok algorithm shows me dancing men without their shirts on
28:37I love your algorithm
28:38And scare prank videos
28:40Okay
28:40Those are the two things that I love
28:42So that's all I watch
28:43And I sit there laughing laughing laughing
28:45And I saw a video of a woman saving donkeys from being rescued at a slaughterhouse
28:50Why would I get that video?
28:51It makes no sense to me
28:52And also like it interrupted my dancing men
28:54Yeah
28:55So I was like
28:57How rude
28:57It got my attention
28:59Yeah
28:59And I was like wait why are people slaughtering donkeys?
29:01That doesn't make any sense
29:02And I think what stuck out to me was that nobody was helping them
29:06There are some people out there helping
29:08I don't want to take away from that
29:09But there are thousands of people out there helping horses for instance
29:12Mm-hmm
29:12Nobody really wanted to help the donkey
29:14They have a really bad reputation
29:16They're sort of the forgotten creature
29:18Why don't I rescue donkeys?
29:20Yeah
29:21So I wrote a business plan
29:22Phil who owned the property that now is in Oscar's place name
29:26Yeah
29:27He came up to have lunch with me
29:29And I said hey here's the thing
29:30If you take your property off the market
29:33I'm going to turn it into a donkey rescue
29:35But I need some funding
29:36You're going to have to help make that happen
29:39But I've written a business plan and here's the business plan
29:42And he went like this
29:45And I took that as a yes
29:46Yes
29:46Because I was like great
29:47There was a nod
29:48Yeah
29:48I saw a nod
29:49Yeah
29:49And I was off and running
29:51And that was December 5th of 2020
29:54We're now five years in
29:55Yeah
29:55We're Global Federation of Animal Sanctuary approved sanctuary
29:59Rescuing donkeys
30:00We've rescued almost 500 donkeys
30:01And
30:01That's incredible
30:03Yeah
30:04And you feel joy tonight
30:07Yeah
30:07That is the difference
30:08Knowing the difference is beautiful
30:10I'm the most joyful I've ever been
30:11Yeah
30:12And I wouldn't trade it for anything
30:14So you say one goal is to change misconceptions around donkeys, right?
30:18Yeah
30:18Which donkeys are by the way really great
30:19Even if you're on a ranch or farm anywhere you are
30:21They actually scare off coyotes
30:22Yeah
30:22They serve so many great purposes
30:24Yeah
30:24Like on a ranch or in your backyard whatever
30:27And they're very friendly
30:28Yeah
30:28Yeah
30:29So the construction of a donkey's brain
30:31So where emotion lives is called the limbic system
30:34And a donkey's limbic system is the same size as a human's
30:37So if you met donkeys which you said you have
30:39Yeah
30:39They're very emotional
30:41We've had a couple, yeah
30:41My best friend is a donkey named Viejo who hugs me everyday
30:45Yeah
30:45They're very emotional
30:47Yeah
30:48So but we have hundreds of volunteers and now thousands of donors who come and visit
30:53And you know the it changes people's lives to hug a donkey
30:56Yeah
30:57So I'm really happy to be able to do that
30:58It's such a great story in testimony too just for people that think
31:00Oh man like I lost my job or something happened that it just derailed
31:03Their life went a different way
31:04Yeah
31:04And it's like you just never know what's going to happen man
31:06Here's the thing
31:07Like accept it and find whatever that new path is
31:09You've got to hold on

37:00We're gonna be right back with what I'm liking
37:25There are plenty of camps and programs for kids who wanna get into musical theater
37:29But I love how one California woman is creating a space for grown-ups to explore their passions for singing
37:35and dancing without judgment
37:36It's called Inner Child Theater Camp and it caters to adults of all backgrounds and ages
37:41No previous musical theater experience expected or required
37:44We have the founder on the line right now to tell us all about it
37:47Let's say hi to Evan watching on NBC7 San Diego
37:52Hi Evan!
37:54Hi Tony!
37:55Hi, nice
37:56Oh my god, our hair looks like the same today
37:58That's amazing
37:59We didn't even plan that
38:00Okay, I love that for us
38:01I know, I know
38:02So Evan, you grew up a musical theater kiddo, right?
38:05I did, yeah
38:06My dad got me into musical theater shortly before he passed
38:09And it was just my joy, my happy place, my outlet
38:12I loved it so much
38:14And then I went to college for acting
38:16But once I started to pursue it professionally
38:19The competition and pressure and just like all the seriousness of it really sucked the joy out of it for
38:24me
38:25So I walked away and had a whole other career as a self-love and empowerment coach
38:31And then 15 years off the stage, I just was missing it
38:36Like, you know, once a theater kid, always a theater kid, right?
38:38It does not leave us
38:39The more I started to look for ways to get back to just that like play in the performing arts
38:46The more I found that as an adult, there's so few opportunities to do that
38:49Where you're not auditioning and kind of in the competition of it all
38:53So I dreamed up in our child theater camp
38:56I know, so that's where this came from
38:58So what's the experience like for everybody when they come?
39:00Yeah, so we build the whole, whether we do our weekend camps or our four-night sleepaway program
39:06We build it around an ensemble musical theater number
39:08So we have a music director who teaches the vocals
39:11We have a choreographer who teaches the dance
39:14Yep, that's our whole team of counselors
39:15We have an improv and play guide
39:18And we learn an uplifting, joyful song
39:21We play games, we do a lot of community connection
39:25And we culminate the whole weekend where there's no experience needed at all
39:31In what we call our final share case
39:33So it's like a showcase, but no pressure, no judgment
39:36Everyone has a chance to get on stage and be celebrated
39:39And then we perform our big ensemble number at the end
39:42And we all end up in tears
39:44It's so cathartic and healing to be in a room with people who just accept you and celebrate you
39:49And it's really fun and really powerful
39:52Yeah, we need more fun
39:54Thank you so much, Evan
39:55I'm liking your post right now, but that's not all
39:58Our season long partner, Pilot Pen Makers of Friction
