19:0612. 12 and 11. Not quite teenagers.
19:08Yeah, so 11 and 14.
19:09Oh, yeah. All right, we're in the same window.
19:11Yeah. Real?
19:13It's like the exorcism, yeah.
19:14Oh, stop.
19:17I'm just saying. I'm just saying.
19:18Do they know how talented their mom is?
19:21Do they watch your movies? No. No.
19:23They don't watch your movies?
19:24They... No. I don't... I mean, maybe.
19:27I don't really ask. Like, hey, have you seen...
19:30Um, they... My...
19:32My 14-year-old came home the other day from school,
19:36and she's just, like, she has this look on her face
19:38like she just smelled a fart at all times now.
19:40It's like the teenage thing. Okay, okay, okay.
19:41You know, like, everything's annoying. Yeah.
19:43And she's just, like, she's like,
19:45what were you doing all day?
19:47It's like, I was working.
19:48She goes, what is your work?
19:52I said, I'm making movies.
19:53She's like, but you were just here all day.
19:56I was like, yeah. I was on the phone,
19:58and I had Zoom meetings.
19:59I'm going to the production office.
20:01She's like, I went to school all day.
20:06I did something. Yeah.
20:08You were on the phone?
20:09You were not making movies here in the house?
20:10Yeah. Yeah. No. Like, no idea.
20:12They think I'm in bed all day.
20:14It takes a lot of work to make these movies.
20:17Yes. And to be Charlize Theron.
20:19Come on, ladies and gentlemen.
20:20This is the one and only.
20:21We don't win Oscars. We don't give them away.
20:24See, it's like neutralizes it.
20:27I get beat up by the 14-year-old,
20:29then I come here, and you guys are nice.
20:30Yeah, see? Yeah, we got to humble.
20:33You know, we've known each other a long time.
20:3526 years ago, we first did SNL together.
20:38You were Marilyn Monroe. I was Joe DiMaggio.
20:41Do you remember?
20:42I do remember that so vividly and very fondly.
20:45You were so nice.
20:47Oh, really?
20:47Yeah, I was so nervous.
20:49I'm, like, actually not really good with that stuff,
20:51and you were so kind.
20:52I remember that I had to wear, like, platform shoes
20:54because you're so tall.
20:56And I had to be the same height.
20:58I remember your teeth kept falling out.
21:04I was wearing fake teeth.
21:06Yes. Oh, yes!
21:07My teeth kept falling out during my lines.
21:09And I was, like, trying to do my honors.
21:10Oh, my God, you kept, like, shoving it in your mouth.
21:14I could not keep it together.
21:16Oh, I'm sorry about that.
21:16Oh, no, it was amazing.
21:18Oh, rah, rah, rah, rah.
21:20Yeah, we're doing hard work.
21:22Oh, yes, we were. Yes, yes.
21:23I want to talk about Apex.
21:25Congratulations on this.
21:26This is a thrilling, wild ride.
21:28It's a great movie.
21:30Super fun, thrilling, scary.
21:33Yeah.
21:33How do we set up the movie and who you play?
21:35Um, it is a thriller, action, psychological thriller.
21:41It's, uh, you know, sitting on the edge of your seat,
21:44not being able to breathe for about an hour and 40,
21:47and it's a good time.
21:49I mean, seriously, here's a shot of you.
21:50This is a scene, you're rock climbing.
21:53Yeah.
21:53You're a rock climber in this, uh...
21:55Yeah, my character is a rock climber,
21:57and, uh, she goes into the Australian outback
21:59to kind of have a bit of a...
22:02She's emotionally kind of torn,
22:04and so she has to kind of go and find herself again.
22:06Yeah.
22:06And she does with a serial killer.
22:08Yeah.
22:09By the way, he's fantastic.
22:11Oh, Taron Edgerton is the...
22:12Taron Edgerton is great in this.
22:14Yeah, he's my buddy in this.
22:16Yeah, you, uh, you shot on location in Australia.
22:18We did. It's gorgeous, huh?
22:20Oh, beautiful. Oh, my God.
22:21It's where you would imagine
22:22a serial killer would chase you.
22:24It's that gorgeous.
22:25It's that gorgeous.
22:26It would shock you.
22:27It's just so isolated.
22:29There's, like, we had to hike an hour into location.
22:32Then we would shoot all day.
22:34I'd climb a whole mountain.
22:35Then we would hike all the way out again.
22:38Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's very far.
22:40Yeah, but also, isn't there...
22:41I love Australia. I've never been, but I'm afraid,
22:44because I think there's, like, spiders and stuff.
22:46Yes. Oh.
22:47And sharks.
22:48Yes.
22:49Like, in the pool, in the swimming pool.
22:52They have them. In Australia, there's sharks in your pool.
22:54You got to be careful.
22:56Getting your information mixed up.
22:58And snakes.
22:59Oh, my God. So many snakes.
23:01There are snakes, right?
23:01So many snakes. We had, like, 17 snake handlers at all times.
23:05You did?
23:06Yes, we have a lot. And then, during the day,
23:07you could, like, walk by them and peek in the bag
23:09and see all the snakes they've been catching.
23:11They're just right there where we're shooting.
23:13What do they do with the snakes in the bag?
23:14So they dump them on another part
23:17of the wilderness.
23:19And then we ended up shooting
23:21in that part of the wilderness.
23:23Because nobody told the snake wrangler
23:25that we were going to shoot there.
23:27So they dumped, like, 400 snakes over there.
23:30And I had to do a running shot, and they made me go so far
23:33into, like, this big, wide shot of me running.
23:35And everything goes quiet, camera's about to roll,
23:37and I just hear...
23:40I know.
23:41Stop.
23:41I look back.
23:43But did you... What were you supposed to do?
23:45I did everything wrong.
23:47What are you supposed to do?
23:47You're supposed to just be very calm, very still.
23:50Yes.
23:50I screamed so loud.
23:52I ran so fast.
23:54It ran so far. Yeah, you do the opposite
23:55of everything you're supposed to do.
23:56Everything, yes.
23:57Well, they could have used that shot in the movie,
23:59because, yeah.
24:00They were very concerned.
24:01Yes. You guys are going to love this.
24:02I want to show a clip.
24:03Here's Charlize Theron in Apex. Take a look.
24:23Mom!
24:25Mom!
24:25Mom?
24:34Ah
24:56Yeah!
24:59Charlize Theron, everybody!
25:01Apex begins streaming on Netflix this Friday.
25:05We'll be right back with more tonight, Joe, everybody.
25:07Stick around!
25:25Our next guest stars in and executive produces the series
25:28Boston Blue, which airs every Friday at 10 p.m. on CBS
25:33and streams on Paramount+.
25:34Please welcome Donnie Wahlberg!
25:56That's Donnie Wahlberg!
25:57Thank you for doing that! Thank you!
26:02That's Donnie Wahlberg right there!
26:04Come on!
26:05That's how you do it!
26:07That is how you do it!
26:08Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
26:11Oh, my God!
26:13It is great to see you. Thank you for doing that.
26:15The sixth new kid.
26:17Yeah! Yeah, right.
26:18Done!
26:19Thank you for doing the dance!
26:20Thank you!
26:21Thank your audience!
26:22Thank you, Roots!
26:23Thank you, everybody!
26:23When you hear the theme, do you...
26:25Is it like when they put up the bat signal,
26:27your body just goes into the dance?
26:29You got to do it?
26:30You know, I got to be honest, as I get older,
26:33I enjoy it more.
26:35Is that right?
26:36When I was younger, like, I'd go to a Celtics game
26:38or something, and they'd start playing.
26:39Oh, oh.
26:40And I'd be like, ah, I just want to watch the game.
26:42And, like, someone would scream from this side of the balcony,
26:45and someone would call me a loser.
26:47Donnie, you're a loser!
26:48From, you know, this side.
26:49That's great.
26:49And as I get older, I really embrace it.
26:51I really love it.
26:52Yeah, come on.
26:53You're the best, yeah.
26:55You've done it, man.
26:58Your debut album turned 40 years old this month.
27:02Wow.
27:05Did you ever think...
27:08Did you ever think this kid would become such a big deal?
27:13Look at this.
27:13Not with that sweater.
27:15Yeah.
27:15No, he's so cool.
27:16No, it's C3.
27:17You can see my chest, and I'm, like, 14.
27:19It's just weird.
27:20Yeah.
27:21But, uh, it was, uh...
27:22Here we are 40 years later, and it's bigger than ever.
27:24Yeah.
27:24I believed the band would be successful,
27:26if for no other reason.
27:27Maurice Starr, who discovered us, um, discovered New Edition,
27:31and they went on to huge success, and he just kept saying,
27:33it's good, you're gonna be huge, you're gonna be huge.
27:35And we're like, all right.
27:35Yeah, you're a little kid, they're like, what is that mean?
27:37This already is so exciting.
27:38We're in a hotel room.
27:39Yeah.
27:40And, uh, and, yes, it's...
27:41I'm blown away every day that we're still doing it,
27:44that fans still show up, that I'm sitting here.
27:47Like, none of this, uh...
27:49It never gets old to me.
27:51I still kind of pinch myself.
27:53I know from those days, we grew up with nothing.
27:55You know, we had nothing.
27:56All of us.
27:57Nobody in the group.
27:57We all came from very humble beginnings.
28:00Yeah.
28:00And to have succeeded at all was a miracle,
28:03but to be here, it's a blessing that beyond...
28:05Starr, I mean, you have a Las Vegas residency.
28:07Yeah, yeah.
28:08I mean, you were just...
28:09Here you are with Elvis.
28:11With Vegas Elvis.
28:12Fantastic Elvis right there.
28:15What's that like out in Vegas?
28:16Vegas is incredible.
28:17Our fans are coming from all around the world.
28:19The show is spectacular.
28:21I hear that it's great.
28:22Yeah, it's really, really good.
28:24And we're just...
28:25We're blessed.
28:26We're gonna update it now,
28:27because we've been there for a year doing it.
28:29We're gonna add some new stuff.
28:30I know there's some blockheads in the audience.
28:31I saw them during the other segment.
28:33We're gonna...
28:34Shout-outs to the blockheads.
28:35That's right.
28:36We're gonna spice it up a lot.
28:37Yeah! We love you!
28:39Let's talk about your new show.
28:40Congratulations on this.
28:41Boston Blue.
28:42It's fantastic.
28:43It's a spin-off of Blue Bloods.
28:45And this time, your character moves to Boston.
28:47Yeah.
28:47And you're famously from Boston.
28:48I will say this, by the way.
28:50As I went to say hi to you before the show,
28:51in your dressing room, you had...
28:53You were drinking a Dunkin'.
28:54Yeah.
28:54I go, that is so funny.
28:55And we had donuts, too.
28:56We had actually Dunkin' donuts.
28:57He's not fake.
28:58He's really...
28:59He's the most realest person I know.
29:01And I was like, I love it.
29:02But on the show, you play...
29:03Your character, Danny, is from Brooklyn.
29:05Yes.
29:06So I'm a Bostonian, playing a New Yorker,
29:08moving to Boston.
29:10If you don't win the Emmy,
29:11then I don't know what we're doing wrong, buddy.
29:13I'll settle for a blockbuster video award at this point.
29:16But, I mean, how do you...
29:17Do you slip into the Boston accent by mistake?
29:20A little bit.
29:21It happens now more so than before,
29:23because I was surrounded by New Yorkers
29:25when I was playing Danny Reagan in New York.
29:27So I was constantly on my toes,
29:28and they'd laugh at me if Boston ever slipped out.
29:31And they would torment me, by the way,
29:32if, like, the Celtics lost to the Knicks
29:34or the Patriots lost to the Giants.
29:35That's what we do to each other.
29:36I know. It's brutal.
29:37But this show is a giant hit already.
29:39It's already been renewed for season two.
29:41So, congratulations.
29:42Boston Blue.
29:43Great name, too.
29:44Boston Blue is great.
29:46We just...
29:47First things first, we have the most incredible cast.
29:49Yeah, everybody.
29:50My partner, Sonequa Martin-Green, incredible.
29:52Gloria Rubin, Ernie Hudson, Marcus Scribner,
29:55Mika Amundsen, Maggie Lawson.
29:57It's just... It's incredible.
29:58And we're having such a good time.
29:59The writers are great, too.
30:00The writers are great.
30:01And this Friday's episode is unbelievable.
30:04Uh, we have, um...
30:05Jefferson White from, uh, Yellowstone
30:07is playing a hostage taker.
30:10And it's just... It's an unbelievable episode.
30:12So, we're just really excited.
30:13It was hard to follow in the footsteps of Blue Bloods.
30:15Of course.
30:16And a lot of people thought,
30:17Oh, it's a no-brainer.
30:18It was like,
30:18Yeah, but if it fails, you know,
30:20we'll never hear the end of it.
30:21And so, we're very relieved.
30:22And we really made it our own show.
30:24And I love the cast.
30:25I love the writers.
30:25We're blessed beyond belief.
30:28And it's a wonderful time.
30:28You got another hit on your hands, bud.
30:30I want to show a clip.
30:31It appears Donnie Wahlberg in Boston Blue.
30:34Take a look at this.
30:35Sean wouldn't stop talking about it,
30:37so I caved and joined.
30:39You joined TikTok on purpose?
30:41I did.
30:42And it's low-key incredible.
30:44Low-key?
30:44If you start shooting TikToks and MCU,
30:46I'm gonna send you back to Brooklyn.
30:48We would do some good videos together,
30:49you and I.
30:50I'm just saying.
30:51By the way, you know what skibbity means?
30:53No, I-I don't.
30:54And neither should you.
30:55We gotta change with the times.
30:57Get along with the people that were policing.
30:58Danny Reagan, Gen Alpha Whisperer.
31:00Yeah, I like that.
31:03Come on.
31:04Donnie Wahlberg, everybody.
31:05You can catch a new episode of Boston Blue
31:08every Friday at 10 p.m. on CBS and Paramount+.
31:12Morgan Neville joins us after the break.
31:14Stick around, everybody!
31:30Our next guest is an Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker.
31:35His latest movie is called Lorne, and it's in theaters now.
31:38Everyone, please welcome Morgan Neville.
31:50Come on.
31:52Come on, now!
31:54All right.
31:54Oh, my gosh.
31:56Morgan Neville, welcome to the show.
31:57You're one of my favorite directors.
31:59And we actually met before.
32:01We did.
32:02You interviewed me for Lorne, for the documentary.
32:04I did. You're in it.
32:05I'm in the documentary.
32:06I know that was my favorite part.
32:07You're great.
32:07Yeah, yeah, yeah.
32:09You do a doc on our pal, the great Lorne Michaels,
32:13and I gotta say, that is a tough gig.
32:15It's incredibly hard.
32:17I mean, it's like trying to make a film about The Wizard of Oz.
32:19You know?
32:20It kind of is.
32:21He's an inscrutable character, and I had to scrute him somehow.
32:25Yeah.
32:26So...
32:26He doesn't like talking about himself.
32:28He's very humble, and he's just like, yeah,
32:30he just wants everything around him to kind of work.
32:32How did you find out that you were gonna do this documentary?
32:35I don't even know how it happened.
32:37I never pitched him on making this film.
32:38He never agreed to make the film.
32:41But somehow it happened.
32:43I mean, really what happened is, you know,
32:45going back before SNL 50, before the 50th anniversary.
32:48Yeah.
32:48Years ago, three years ago, he said,
32:51well, let's meet and talk about documentary ideas.
32:54He said, come to my office.
32:55It was a show week.
32:57Nine o'clock, let's have a meeting.
32:58So I go into Lorne's office, nine o'clock,
33:01and there are 16 people in the room.
33:03And he said, so what are your ideas?
33:05And Higgins was in the room,
33:07all the senior writers, everybody.
33:09And I just said, okay, I stand up,
33:11I start pitching all these ideas,
33:13and I'm just going and going.
33:14And I finish, and I sit down, and Lorne doesn't say anything.
33:18So then I said, so, any thoughts, any ideas?
33:21And he turns to one of his producers and says,
33:23Caroline, what did you think?
33:25And she said, well, I thought there were some good things.
33:27Like, she didn't wanna get called on.
33:29And she tosses the hot potato to the next person.
33:31And then, finally, the meeting just ends,
33:33and I walk out with Katie Hochmeyer,
33:35the head of NBC late night.
33:36And I said, what just happened?
33:37She said, oh, he likes you.
33:40So I had this story that all the cast members tell.
33:43Yes.
33:44About getting hired and not knowing you got hired.
33:46Yeah.
33:46But you did such a great job.
33:48I mean, he's such an interesting guy.
33:50And when you're doing this, when you're talking to all these legends,
33:54you're talking to Chris Rock, you're talking to Mike Myers,
33:57do you get, I don't know, you don't get intimidated,
34:01but do you?
34:02Do you go, like, I'm talking to these comedies?
34:03I mean, they love talking about Lorne.
34:06You know, they're not talking about themselves.
34:07They're talking about somebody who, for most of them,
34:10completely changed their life.
34:12I mean, you're one of those people.
34:13Completely changed my life.
34:14I mean, NBC didn't really even want me to host late night.
34:18And this is true.
34:19And Lorne said, you have to do it with Jimmy.
34:22If you don't, then I'm not doing it.
34:23That's amazing.
34:24And he really went to bat for me.
34:25Yeah.
34:26I would not have the time.
34:27He's the best.
34:28And...
34:29For so many people.
34:31Oh, yeah.
34:31Conan.
34:32Conan O'Brien.
34:33You know, so many people.
34:35So many people.
34:35He gets their back.
34:36He's loyal.
34:37I think you captured him so perfectly.
34:39It's just everything about him is great.
34:42Did he get, did he see the film?
34:44Because I don't think he's going...
34:45He told me the entire time he made this film,
34:47he was never going to watch the film.
34:49Yes.
34:49He always says, I'm never going to...
34:50I don't read anything.
34:51I don't watch anything.
34:52He doesn't watch SNL after it airs.
34:54That's the end of it.
34:54So we had a premiere recently here in New York.
34:57And there was a seat held open for him.
35:00And I didn't think he was going to watch it.
35:02After the movie ended, people started coming up to me
35:04and saying, Lorne watched the film.
35:05Lorne watched the film.
35:07And so it blew my mind.
35:08So there was a party afterwards.
35:10And Lorne's in this corner booth.
35:11And I walk up to him and he nods at me and says,
35:13Good.
35:16Take the W.
35:17That is a five-star review.
35:19Take the W.
35:20That's a win right there.
35:21I want to show everyone a clip.
35:23Here's a look at Morgan Neville's documentary, Lorne.
35:26Enjoy.
35:27The questions you want to ask Lorne,
35:29I would ask other people and then they'll give you
35:32a bunch of different answers and then you can...
35:34Cut them together to funny music?
35:35Exactly.
35:37Do you know anything about his childhood?
35:42A suburb of Toronto?
35:44Uh-huh.
35:44Right?
35:45That's Canada.
35:46He liked hockey.
35:48Liked hockey.
35:49A lot of, like, outdoor hockey kind of stuff.
35:53Fishing and, you know, stuff like that.
35:55If you told me he made maple syrup, I would believe you.
35:58I guess I don't know what his dad did.
36:02We should ask him.
36:04We should, like, meet Lorne.
36:06Just talk to him.
36:07Yeah, you should meet Lorne.
36:09Yeah.
36:10It's fantastic.
36:11Congratulations.
36:12It is so great.
36:13Morgan Neville, everyone!
36:14His documentary, Lorne, is in theaters now.
36:17We'll be right back, everybody.
36:19My squad half-man drilling half-man.
36:22Lella, my band.
36:23They about 70 strong, just like fella.
36:25Eww.
36:25Part belly-melon, part man.
36:27Ellen and we represent...
36:30For real.
36:31She be pushing five vessels.
36:33The shoes is ill.
36:34But her hand keeps flipping off the ring.
36:40Performing What If We Don't from her upcoming album, Wild,
36:45please welcome Ashley McBride!
36:59This is the part we call it a night.
37:05You get in your car, and I get into mine.
37:12You think about me, and I'm thinking about you.
37:17And we can go home alone, like we always do.
37:22What if we don't?
37:25What if we don't?
37:29What if we don't?
37:30What if we stop fighting what we know we don't want?
37:35We marry Red House while we let go.
37:40What if we don't?
37:42What if we don't?
37:43What if we don't?
37:47There's always a fear of goin' there now.
37:53Things getting weird if it don't work out.
37:59This kind of thing can't stop once it starts
38:04We might end up breaking each other's hearts
38:10What if we don't, what if we don't
38:16What if we stop fighting when we know we won't fall
38:22We might regret how far we let it go
38:26What if we don't
38:30I don't want to overthink it
38:34I gotta kiss you right now
38:37Baby, I'm tired of thinking about
38:54What if we don't, what if we don't
39:01What if we stop fighting when we know we won't fall
39:06We might regret how far we let it go
39:11Yeah, we might regret how far we let it go
39:17What if we don't
