00:00Mayor Muriel Bowser.
00:01Did you guys know about this?
00:04The queen of D.C. sports, Mayor Muriel Bowser.
00:06I knew something was going on when Drab was fiddling with papers and getting the chair ready.
00:10Big surprise. Very cool. How are you?
00:12Hi, Chunkies. I hear you're having an anniversary.
00:15We are, yes.
00:15Can you believe these four dummies have been on the air for 30 years?
00:19That's amazing.
00:20It is amazing, right?
00:22Yes, we've seen a lot change in 30 years.
00:25Yeah, we have.
00:26Oh, yeah.
00:26And by the way, since we've had you on, you announced that this is it for you, right?
00:30How much longer do you have?
00:31I'm running through the tape until January 2nd.
00:34Until January 2nd.
00:35Yes, we're running through the tape.
00:36The legacy is solidified.
00:38And then you're going to go work for a company and make some big dollars.
00:41Oh, yeah.
00:41Hey, don't leave those personal days on the shelf either.
00:44Burn your pee days.
00:44Oh, no, no, no, no.
00:45No, no, no.
00:46We're running through the tape.
00:47Look, we have a lot of sports that's going to happen in the next seven months.
00:51So we have to stay focused on that.
00:53By the way, congratulations, because not only did you get the stadium deal done,
00:56you got the NFL draft coming.
00:58I mean, she's just knocking it out the park with everything.
01:01Right.
01:01The NFL draft is a big deal.
01:04We worked many years on that.
01:06Some people will remember I went to the Oval Office to announce it.
01:10Oh, I remember.
01:11It's going to be on the mall.
01:13They're going to be incredible views.
01:15But I think for, you know, not this table, but a lot of people,
01:19they haven't believed yet that we're the sports capital.
01:23And so this is going to.
01:24You're kind of a sports queen.
01:25Yeah.
01:25You're kind of a sports queen.
01:26She is.
01:27Yeah.
01:27It puts us on the national stage.
01:29It shows the NFL that we're going to do a big event.
01:33And I think it lines us up nicely for a Super Bowl.
01:36I don't think we ever.
01:37Oh, yeah.
01:37Did you go to Seton?
01:38I did.
01:39Did we ask her?
01:40Did you play sports at Seton?
01:42Not well, no.
01:44But did you play?
01:45Did you play basketball?
01:46No, and when I was a sophomore in high school, I think I played like four games
01:52in a basketball season.
01:53Oh, you did?
01:54I decided.
01:54It wasn't for me.
01:56I got you.
01:57Because you are a big sports fan.
01:58You are a big sports fan.
01:59You know, I'm a Washington Nationals fan, a Washington Commanders fan,
02:03a Washington Wizards fan, a Washington Miscuits fan, where I'm a soccer fan.
02:09So, yeah, I'm a D.C. sports fan.
02:11She knows what the people want.
02:13That's what she's good at.
02:14That's about my impression from afar.
02:16Did you know coming in at some point that that would be your niche?
02:21Like, that would be really, really what you're going to bring to D.C.?
02:24Well, I think what I saw.
02:26I'm sure you've got a million accomplishments, but I'm not saying you don't.
02:28I watched what baseball and bringing a baseball stadium did for D.C.
02:34You've heard me say this before.
02:35I didn't grow up with baseball because we did not have a team as a kid growing up in D
02:41.C.
02:41And I just saw how we, the city, invested, we reinvigorated the neighborhood,
02:47but we exposed another generation of children to baseball.
02:53And I also watched how sad it was when our football team left our city
02:59and how, you know, how we love our team and we wanted our team here.
03:05And so now, by 2030, we're going to have all of our professional teams in our city limits.
03:11Very nice.
03:12I mean, when is the statue of Mayor Muda getting erected?
03:17That's the next thing we need to do.
03:18Well, we're working on RFK, as you know,
03:21and I think the very first kind of construction project is not the sexy part.
03:26It's the infrastructure part, but it's happening.
03:28I sent down what's needed to get that done to the D.C. Council.
03:33That's going to happen.
03:35The team, all the architects, all of the review panels are excited about what's going to happen at RFK.
03:43Not just the stadium, but as you know, we're going to have a lot of multi-uses, connections to the
03:49river.
03:49We're going to create thousands of jobs, housing, and opportunity for D.C. businesses.
03:56So we're really excited.
03:57Are the residents over there kind of accepting it now?
04:01Because I know there were some that said, no, it's too much construction.
04:04It's going to be expensive.
04:06Are the residents okay with it?
04:07I think, though, once the residents realized that we weren't just talking about doing what's there now,
04:13a stadium and parking lots, they saw the vision.
04:16I mean, they live close to there.
04:18They know the value it's going to bring to the neighborhood,
04:21more opportunities to do things where they don't have to drive anywhere.
04:27They're going to be able to stay right in their neighborhood.
04:29That it's going to be a 365-day-a-year campus.
04:33So I think people are excited.
04:35Now, obviously, neighbors are going to focus on the logistics like we are.
04:38Where's the parking going to be?
04:39How are people going to get in here?
04:41We're going to be improving a lot of the streetscape and bridges and approaches to the campus as well.
04:50So I think it's going to work out.
04:52People are excited.
04:53Very cool.
04:54Will Mayor Bowser be watching the NFL draft tonight when the Washington Commanders select at number seven?
04:59Yes, that is exciting.
05:01And I know, listen, I have a lot of faith in this team.
05:04They've done well at the draft before.
05:06They're going to do well today, I'm sure.
05:08I think all Washingtonians just want to make sure they're protecting Jaden.
05:13Well, you could have drafted better than Ron Rivera, so let's not sugarcoat things.
05:17We just want them to protect Jaden.
05:19We want them to pick the best players because we're going to be there.
05:22We're going to be there no matter what.
05:24Have you met Jaden?
05:25I have met Jaden.
05:26You like him?
05:26Oh, cool.
05:27I do.
05:28I mean, I don't know him well, but I want him to win.
05:32I want him to be healthy.
05:36If he struggled, would you be like Bench's ass?
05:38Would you be like that?
05:40Yes.
05:42She's got to win, baby.
05:45We got to win.
05:46Yeah, right.
05:46So that's important.
05:48But I came because I was told that you are having your big 30th birthday on May the 4th.
05:56And, you know, one of the things that I get to do as mayor is proclaim big days.
06:02Wow.
06:03And so we want the world to know that you've been doing this for 30 years.
06:08You began on public access cable, the Junks.
06:13Is that right?
06:14Junks TV?
06:15The Junks TV.
06:16And you have become a daily staple for listeners here and across the country, providing a unique mix of sports
06:24talk, humor, and relatable stories.
06:26So it is my pleasure because I believe it was here that I proclaimed that we would get RFK done.
06:36You didn't believe me, but I told you we would.
06:40And you told everybody else that your listeners have been great supporters of what will be a transformational project for
06:49D.C.
06:49So I want to congratulate you on a three-decade run.
06:53Wow.
06:54Wow.
06:54Look at that.
06:55Oh, we got an official proclamation.
06:57As mayor of Washington, D.C., I proclaim Monday, May the 4th, 2026, as Sports Junkies Day in the best
07:08city in the world.
07:09And I'm trying all Washingtonians to help celebrate your success and impact on our community in the Sports Junkies Day.
07:21Awesome.
07:21Congratulations, Sports Junkies.
07:22Footnotes, that's Jason's birthday, too.
07:24It is.
07:25We're honored.
07:25Thank you, man.
07:26Is there any monetary gift that comes from Sports Junkies Day?
07:29The pride of helping D.C. and making the world know that we're not just the Capitol and the White
07:38House, but we're entertainment, we're sports, and we're a lot of fun.
07:43Thank you, Sports Junkies.
07:44Thank you so much.
07:44Well, this is probably the last time she'll be in studio with us.
07:47It could be, yes.
07:48Well, she could come in after.
07:49You could come whenever you want.
07:50I'll be here definitely for the Super Bowl.
07:52Invite me back.
07:52Okay.
07:53You're invited.
07:54You're invited.
07:55Well, if we don't see you, thank you very much.
07:56Thank you so much.
07:57Have a great show.
07:58That's very nice.
07:59I'm very honored.
08:00Bye-bye.
08:01Bye-bye.
08:02Wow.
08:02When she comes in, she comes in, and then she leaves.
08:05She's a powerful woman.
08:07All right.
08:07We need to go to break because we're going to go take some pictures with the mayor.
08:11I don't know if that's going to happen.
08:12And then we'll come back.
08:13She's already gone.
08:13She's in the car already.
08:14And we will do our mock draft next here on The Junkies.
