00:00In France, the RATP, Autonomous Parisian Transportation Administration, which is in charge of operating and maintaining the public transportation in
00:09the greater Paris area,
00:11has employed one of Boston Dynamics' dog-like robots, Spot, to help metro inspectors repair the 100-years-old regional
00:19railway network.
00:21Upon arrival, they named the robot Percival, a proper French name.
00:25Weighing around 88 pounds and standing at 3.2 feet, Percival is able to inspect hard-to-reach and hazardous
00:32areas which workers were cautious to enter before.
00:36Before Percival, either we didn't go in the risky tunnels, or we were going but putting the workers' health at
00:41risk,
00:42so thanks to Percival, we can go and the workers remain safe and can monitor the sites that we couldn't
00:47necessarily monitor before.
00:49According to Reuters, RATP bought the robot for around 100,000 euros, or $110,000,
00:56and has equipped it with a 360-degree camera with infrared sensors to allow it to capture accurate thermal and
01:04visual data.
01:05The company says it identified between 75 and 100 work sites that will be inspected by Percival,
01:11as the metro network in Paris is one of the oldest and biggest in Europe.
