The government isn't on track to help the economy despite figures showing that borrowing is falling, according to Shadow Chancellor Sir Mel Stride. He claims the economic situation is worse than what was inherited from the Conservative Party and argues spending must be brought under control.

00:05plans that they inherited from the last Conservative government.
00:09And of course, if you borrow vast amounts of money, spend large amounts of money, you inflate the economy, you
00:13get higher inflation, which makes people poorer.
00:16So we need a fundamental reset, which should be about getting on top of public spending, particularly the welfare bill,
00:21getting people into work, and then lowering taxes and helping business and getting growth going.
