00:00This 11-month-old cockapoo pup was rescued from an isolated cove after falling 60 feet onto a ledge.
00:08The rescue dog named Betty was on a walk when she got spooked by the lead banging behind her and
00:13fell from the cliff.
00:15She was stuck for six hours on a tidal shelf, unable to maneuver up or down,
00:21and had suffered a broken leg and cut some bruises from the way down.
00:24A Coast Guard team and a Royal National Lifeboat Institution volunteer group attempted a rescue.
00:30However, Betty's owner, Karen Porter, said she's still very scared of strange people,
00:35so when the Coast Guard team went down to get her, she got scared and tumbled over the edge, down
00:41onto the beach below.
00:42In 2022, the RNLI was called out to rescue animals 209 times,
00:48and volunteer crew member Matt Parr says the owner did the right thing
00:52by calling 999 and asking for the Coast Guard, and not attempting to help Betty herself.
00:58It is a great feeling to be able to hand a much-loved dog back to its owners.
01:03They were so pleased to see her.
01:05Betty is now making a full recovery at home.
