00:01This is game one of a three-game set with the Dodgers and it renews the
00:07greatest rivalry in sports in our humble opinion. The beauty of this rivalry is
00:12over the years most of the time both teams have been very very competitive.
00:16Certainly the Dodgers and the Giants is it's the real deal. Pitcher for the Giants
00:21is right-hander Landon Rupp and really he's been the best Giants starting
00:24pitcher of the year. Four starts three and one record a 2-3-8 earn run average
00:28in his last one out against the Cincinnati Reds in Cincinnati. He was
00:32just spectacular. So Rupp is on the mound against this Dodgers team. Throws. He
00:37struck him out swinging and that was a changeup. One away. Man that was just nasty.
00:44Tucker at 2-56. He's got three home runs. 13 runs better. Center field. Gilbert racing in. Slows down. Two
00:52down.
00:53Well Freddie Freeman makes his return to the Dodger lineup. And congratulations
00:57to Freddie and Chelsea and the Freeman family with the birth of London Rosemary
01:02as Kirsten told us about. And it is a sinker that just misses inside. Ball 4. Dodgers have their first
01:09base runner of the game.
01:11To Oscar Hernandez. Powerful right-handed hitter. Now he swings. Hits one off the end of the back to
01:15center field. Over to his right a bit. Gilbert makes the catch. Inning over.
01:20Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound for the Dodgers in his three-game series against San Francisco.
01:25This is his fifth start of the year. Coming off with no decision against the Mets.
01:33Jim just threw that one into San Mateo. Holy smokes. That ball was clobbered and he
01:39kind of dropped to his knees as he angled back onto the outfield grass to backhand the ball jumped up
01:46on the wet grass and made a just a hilariously wild throw.
01:51A base hit with Oz. They'll stop Adamus at third. And the Giants are at the corners before Yamamoto's gotten
01:57the first out of the night.
01:58And now the bases are loaded with nobody out for Rafi Devers.
02:02A suboptimal start to be sure. Swing and a line drive over the head of the second baseman Freeland.
02:09Adamus in to score easily from third. And the Giants have a 1-0 lead. A hard hit. Bases loaded
02:15single and an RBI there for Devers.
02:17Mark Pryor with a little bit of a visit. Give him a blow. 15 pitches already. Hasn't recorded an out.
02:23And a chance for a big inning against a guy who does not give up many of them. Yamamoto.
02:27Pock fly left center field. Tasker went back at first. Now comes on with Cole. They collide. Cole makes the
02:35catch.
02:36Throw goes to third. One will score. And you hope that everybody's okay.
02:42Cole and Hernandez drilling one another there in the gap. 2-0 and a sack fly from Schmidt.
02:48Now here is Jung-Hoo Lee. Runners at first and third. One out.
02:52He wraps one. And it's going to be tracked.
02:57Coming in to score is Chapman. And it's 3-0.
03:01Jung-Hoo Lee. First ball swinging. Knocks in the Giants. Third run of the inning.
03:07Statistically, Giants offense lacking. Statistically, Yamamoto dominating.
03:13They've gone at least six innings in every game. Had not given up more than two runs. Has given up
03:18three.
03:19Goes with a curve and it's launched to left. Hernandez to the corner. Yamamoto gets away with that.
03:25Two out.
03:27Every curveball that he has thrown has been kind of lazy. Even though there's strikes.
03:31There's just a pattern to them right out of his hand.
03:34Here's the pitch.
03:36Slide. Left center field. Call. Running after it. And he's got room.
03:40Makes the catch on the foot of the warning track.
03:42And that retires the side in the first inning.
03:44But it's a crooked number for San Francisco.
03:46They scored three runs.
03:48Here's Max Muncie.
03:50Hitting 3-0-3.
03:51Swings through. Strike three.
03:53Second K-4 Roop.
03:55Two outs. Bases empty in the second.
03:56And the center field. Gilbert paused at first.
03:59Comes out and it cost him. Didn't get a great read off of the bat.
04:02Most can be the tough ones when they're headed right at you.
04:04Kim's got a base hit. First of the day for the Dodgers.
04:07Now here is Alex Call.
04:10On one hop. And the throw to first. In time. And that'll end the inning.
04:15Shucked out inning. Nicely handled by Roop.
04:18Yoshinobu Yamamoto did not have any command.
04:21And the Dodgers did not have command of their defensive faculties.
04:25I think it would be fair to say.
04:26Swing and a miss. He's got his first strikeout as he sits down at Domus.
04:30And he is so disciplined with the positions he goes through in his delivery.
04:35That he can move the ball when locked in.
04:39Which is a lot of time. Inches.
04:41Depending on where the last pitch was.
04:43Rise. Smashes the ball in the air to right center field.
04:45But the wrong part of the wrong park to do that.
04:49And so. Giants go down in order. One two three.
04:52No change in the score. Three nothing. Going to the third.
04:55Landon Roop. Been given a three run lead here.
04:59And has worked through the first two innings. Only one hit allowed.
05:02Got it. Nice comeback for Landon Roop.
05:06Strikeout number three. Down in that count.
05:08I'm usually saying here. Hit this. I have a three nothing lead.
05:11Right now. Not even Aaron Judge in baseball.
05:15Elicits the reaction that Otani does when he comes to the plate.
05:19No matter where the Dodgers are playing.
05:21Pitch on the way.
05:21Otani. Strikes out swinging.
05:23On the big curve ball.
05:26Roop's got him twice.
05:28In two at bats.
05:29That's Landon Roop's fourth strikeout of the game.
05:32The three two.
05:33Tucker strikes out swinging.
05:35Landon Roop ends up striking out the side.
05:37That was really impressive.
05:39Alvaro looking for some swing and miss here tonight.
05:42Has not been up to par as far as what's normal for him.
05:46There's some swing and miss.
05:48On the split.
05:49That's the Yamamoto right there.
05:50Not just because of the strikeout.
05:52The swing and the miss.
05:54The movement of the pitch.
05:56He just did not have that going for him.
05:59And the delivery seemed out of sync.
06:01Vicious ripping a miss right there.
06:03Back to back K's for Yamamoto here in the third.
06:05Beats him with a four seamer.
06:07After a good split.
06:09Slow him down.
06:10Speed him up.
06:12Get the punch out.
06:13Half-hearted swing and a roller to third.
06:15Muncie'll scrape it up.
06:16And Casey Schmidt is out number three.
06:19Three walks in this inning against Roop.
06:21They're loaded up for Kim.
06:24Outside ball four.
06:25Challenge from Bailey.
06:26Leading the high leverage philosophy.
06:29This is edgy again.
06:31I think this one might be a strike.
06:34No!
06:35Ha ha!
06:36The ABS powered by T-Mobile.
06:38The Dodgers on the board on the fourth walk of the fourth inning.
06:41So he walks in the first run.
06:44Landon Roop was absolutely dealing and cruising through three innings.
06:49Gave up just two base runners.
06:51Otherwise had five strikeouts and three scoreless.
06:54The wheels have come off in the fourth.
06:56Call hits ground ball toward third.
06:58Chapman has it.
06:59He'll go to second one.
07:00A rise to first.
07:01Got him!
07:01Double play!
07:03Somehow Landon Roop gives up only the one.
07:06Two outs on three pitches.
07:10Yamamoto stabilizing the outing now.
07:12And giving his team a chance to get back in it.
07:14Here's Yamamoto.
07:15Got him swinging.
07:16Another dastardly splitter from the right-hander.
07:19And another one, two, three inning.
07:20A shutdown inning.
07:22Freeland struck out his first time.
07:24The pitch on the way.
07:27Strength recall!
07:29If Alex Freeland had a little bit more time in the big leagues,
07:32he might have challenged that.
07:34I agree.
07:35And he would have won that challenge if he had.
07:37Ohtani brings his 52-game on-base streak into tonight.
07:41Curve ball.
07:42Reach four.
07:42Lifted to right field and backing up a little bit.
07:45But plenty of room to make the catch.
07:48Jung-Hoo Lee, right?
07:49Ohtani was way off balance with that swing.
07:51It was all arms and upper body.
07:55Tucker is 0 for 2.
07:57Strike three caught on the outside corner.
08:00And I'm almost positive that'll be his final pitch of the night.
08:04But he finishes up very strongly.
08:07Rebounds beautifully after that nightmarish fourth inning.
08:11Sixth inning now at Oracle Park.
08:13And for the Giants, Ryan Barucki, the left-hander, has come into the game.
08:16Swings at that one.
08:17Down the line.
08:18And it sneaks by Chapman into left field.
08:20Hernandez headed for second with a one-out double.
08:23So two down.
08:24Here is Dalton rushing.
08:25Runner at second.
08:26Swing and a high fly ball into medium deep left center.
08:30Back into his right.
08:31Now under it.
08:31Gilbert.
08:32He's got it.
08:33So Barucki gets all three of the lefties.
08:36Giants got all three runs in the first inning.
08:38They don't have a hit since.
08:40Who would have thought that Yamamoto would outlast Roop in this game?
08:42Here's the one-two for Jung-Hoo Lee.
08:46And a base hit.
08:48He went down and dug out that splitter.
08:51And drove it right over the head of Freeland, the second baseman.
08:56Elliott Ramos to the plate.
08:580 for 2.
08:59And on the road to get the job done below two of his norms.
09:02Normally a lot of swing and miss.
09:04And a lot of ground balls.
09:06Half-paced tonight on both those categories.
09:09There he goes.
09:10Here it comes.
09:10Ramos scalds the ball into center field.
09:13And back to back.
09:14Two out hits.
09:16Wow.
09:16He's going to try to score.
09:18Freeland to the plate.
09:18It's in time.
09:20He tags him out.
09:21And the inning is over.
09:22The one they call the grandson of the win.
09:25Tried to run like it.
09:26But a relay to the plate cuts him down.
09:28And it stays 3-1.
09:30Motani comes up as the tying run.
09:32Running out of chances to extend that on base streak.
09:35One shy of Sean Green for the second longest streak in franchise history.
09:40For the longest streak in L.A. Dodger history.
09:43Grounds one left side.
09:44Backhand to Damas.
09:45Heaves it to the corner.
09:47And it's not in time.
09:49Ohtani extends the on base streak with an infield hit.
09:53He has tied Sean Green for the longest on base streak in L.A. Dodger history.
09:59In one of the most unlikely ways.
10:01Shohei Ohtani.
10:02One of his softest exit velocity hits of his career I'm sure.
10:06Now the Dodgers have the tying run at first base.
10:10Kyle Tucker the hitter.
10:12He throws.
10:13Tucker strikes out swinging.
10:15He blew him away.
10:16He had Tucker in between.
10:18Joshinobu Yamamoto prepares for his seventh inning of work.
10:21He gave up three runs in the first inning.
10:23Since then though Moe.
10:25Just three base runners.
10:27He finishes his night with a four.
10:30And he strikes out the side in the seven.
10:33Yamamoto strong through seven.
10:35Seven punch outs.
10:36He is giving his team a chance.
10:38Runner at second.
10:40Two down for Will Smith with the Giants ahead here in the eighth inning.
10:44Three to one.
10:45Splinter struck him out swinging.
10:47Once again the Dodgers come up empty with the runner on base.
10:503-1 in the middle.
10:51And right now it's Ryan Walker who comes in.
10:54Alex Freeland with Shohei Ohtani on deck.
10:56Two down the pitch.
10:58Swing and a miss.
10:58He struck him out.
11:00He blew a fastball by him right down the middle.
11:03So game one in this three game series goes to the Giants.
