00:05Hey guys thanks so much for watching the show we have some live pods coming up on April 22nd
00:11we will be in Port Chester New York and on May 9th we will be at the Wiltern in Los
00:16Angeles for the
00:17Netflix is a joke festival so come on and hang with us Lauren told me once after 50 you don't
00:23wear jeans and I just thought that was like a funny rule because I like to picture him like
00:30in a store at 50 and being like no it's over where he just had that pivotal moment shake
00:39this head no slacks and cactus for the slacks and ends Pete you're a dad now I'm a dad dude
00:54how are
00:55you feeling it's fucking nuts yeah it's nuts because I remember when you had your first
01:00yeah yeah it was my first year and she was on the floor and I was like holy shit that
01:05looks crazy
01:05yeah that's how it was like imagine me watching like Tina Amy Maya all of them like going through
01:13multiple pregnancies while they're at work crazy they were just while at work the only time they
01:19would miss the show would be like the actual birth weekend that's fucking nuts yeah they were super
01:26soldiers I haven't seen you in a while how you doing I'm good yeah when you came to the show
01:30last
01:30when was that a month ago two months ago six weeks eight weeks eight weeks probably you know
01:36yeah something like that it's like six weeks yeah that was fun it's always fun was it cold open that
01:42you did I did a cold open and I tried to do a character and then I got a Higgins
01:47Lauren note and
01:47he said why start now he goes we paid to have Pete Davidson here bullseye yeah and I for like
01:56why
01:56start now that's why those guys do comedy yeah like it's it stings but it is funny you know yeah
02:05oh Lauren and Lauren give drops like one oh oh bombshells yeah because it's like how did I not see
02:12that
02:12coming and they're sneaky as fuck because like in that meeting like if you do a bad pitch yeah and
02:18you
02:18are new he'll he'll let you have it yeah but you it's so he's so unassuming because he's playing snood
02:26and you think and he's eating popcorn and you think he's not paying attention at all do you
02:31remember when Taron used to start every pitch with hi Taron I was in 12 years of slave do you
02:39remember
02:39that yes now that you reminded me yes his pitches were my favorite and Moffat's pitches were my
02:45favorite Moffat was a dedicated like I don't give a shit if this is the Hindenburg I'm going down with
02:52it week after week like you got to respect that shit because there would be gyms in there somewhere
02:59you know and it's also like who are we to judge I guess I mean I get it Lauren's heard
03:06a million so
03:07I guess he's a bit of a judge yeah he's qualified but well you don't realize until you're about four
03:11years in that that is just to make everybody laugh you're probably not gonna write that yeah it's just
03:18like to like get the hosts all loose but like if your first few years you're like I'm gonna write
03:23this I miss how the pitch meeting used to be before COVID when we were all I miss the in
03:29between dress
03:29and air because that was the greatest like when we were all like just piling that writer's room
03:35everybody just like half makeup still fucking glue faced and just fingernail biting motherfuckers at the
03:44table like rewriting like furiously and I'm like when do we take a break on Saturday it's like at
03:50no point like if you haven't had a chance to like relax yourself by four it's over well you feel
03:55I feel
03:56like you have it you have the keys to the kingdom there where you have it figured out you know
04:00what
04:00I gotta because I'm a I'm a napper you know what I'm saying so I have to like measure my
04:06shit and
04:06just find at least 30 to 40 to 50 to just shut it down you know I'm saying and then
04:13like I can like
04:14wake back up and then be good for the night because it's a abnormal schedule for sure and then being
04:19a
04:19napper on top of that you know I'm saying it's like yeah I need a fucking break so you're always
04:25really nice to not that anyone's not nice but you were always really nice to anybody new and you were
04:31very like yeah and I thought that was just so important to have like in a very it's a very
04:37scary
04:37place when you're new there it is and then it was you know it was a passed down thing you
04:42know that I
04:43was like really wanting to be like embraced and taken under a wing you know what I mean because I've
04:50been in the game a while and like you know being on Nickelodeon and like having our own shows and
04:57shit
04:58people just assumed that we were good already like we didn't really need much you know kind of
05:02like fraternity of the biz you know I mean of older like like some people would give us tidbits but
05:09nobody would just like really be like come this way and like that's how Tracy was for me you know
05:15I'm saying Tracy was you for yeah yeah so it was like once that happened I was like oh this
05:20is a
05:20traditional place that I've been like waiting to be involved in like that kind of thing and it was
05:25just like my pleasure to like pass down any secrets I can you know what I'm saying because
05:30like yeah Tracy was like you know let me show you some things but he no one can tell you
05:35all the
05:35things you know what I'm saying so you still spend a whole lot of time discovering oh shit I'm late
05:41or
05:41I didn't hear the call or like all this other shit like where should I really be in like you
05:46know
05:46where should I really be hovering on Saturday because you want to like I don't know if you're not from
05:51New York you want to explore New York or you want to explore Midtown or the building or whatever
05:54you just want to like do shit as opposed to just being stuck in that proximity or whatever but
05:59it's just safer it's a rough proximity it's really funny yeah it's enclosed the Christmas
06:05turns on you if you ever work at SNL because it is the worst month of the year in terms
06:11of that
06:12but it's Christmas is my favorite it's so like it's it's very stressful but the idea of the tree
06:17when I grew up I was in Staten Island we're going to see the tree you were lucky because we're
06:22watching that shit on TV yeah first year at SNL I was like fuck this tree what year was it
06:28when
06:28you joined 2014 but people still didn't really talk so long 40 exactly yeah it was 40 years deep
06:37yeah that's crazy there's a lot of memories in that couch my favorite is when you say Belushi's
06:44toenails in the carpet because it's like it's very possible kind of thing you know what I mean oh for
06:52sure dude you know how many fucking late nights fucking someone was probably alone in the office
06:57it was like I could scratch it just scratch it you know I can check it real quick yeah before
07:02so if
07:03you forget your key I don't know if it's still like this but forget your key after a while they
07:08shut the the the like these doors down if you don't have your key card and that's where the
07:14bathroom was so someone told me norm used to just pee in the trash can in his office norm was
07:21the wildest
07:22like norm was the first one that like broke the glass menagerie of that place to me you know what
07:31I
07:31mean because it was very like yo this is a museum like respect this don't touch the highest level yeah
07:37beyond time I was always getting in trouble you know what I mean for just doing this and that and
07:40staircases and shit or whatever and it's like not knowing that there's cameras everywhere just like
07:46just being young and dumb or whatever but norm came through that bitch literally smoking a cigarette
07:53and it's like you know on the 17th floor it's like these are like offices you know oh yeah it
07:58stays in
07:58there corporate America yeah you know what I'm saying and he was it was like I don't know
08:04six seven p.m. or whatever but he was smoking a cigarette and then he just put it out on
08:10the
08:10carpet that's I was like that's wild because in this area this is where I first met literally
08:19everybody because right a conference room area or whatever right and like to just watch him just
08:24standing in the doorway and just like kind of like smirking at the whole thing because his
08:29relationship with the show I'm sure right and you know it's like I don't know that she was a wild
08:34perspective to see you know I'm saying because he literally just like didn't give a fuck and was
08:39smoking for a while and then like yeah it was an American spirit smoking a full cigarette and
08:44then just put it out like just dropped it and stepped on it kind of put it out not like
08:49that's
08:50how I would like to be remembered honestly yeah that's like a fire that's a fire thing to be
08:55remembered for yeah no that's when you first get in there what so you moved from Atlanta right so
09:01yeah I grew up in Atlanta but then we went to Orlando and then LA so I was in LA
09:05when I moved to New
09:06York and was SNL like the goal or was was because for me it was someone was just like hey
09:13you want
09:13to audition for this and I was like yeah sure I you were hyper young bro so like I don't
09:18even know if
09:18you even understood like I had no idea the magnitude yeah yeah like I'm sure you heard of the show
09:26you're
09:26from New York you know what I'm saying so it's like yeah yeah yeah like that that thing that you
09:30know that show and of course it's a big deal because it's a TV show and like this that and
09:34the
09:34other however right that being said like you haven't had a chance to like really know because I didn't
09:42have a chance to really know the history you know what I mean and like how much and like what
09:46they've
09:47been doing and how wide that reach really kind of is locally you know what I'm saying yeah I'm in
09:52my
09:5223rd year there you know it's crazy insane you're like LeBron dude yeah yeah so to answer your question
09:58was SNL the goal yeah kind of like I'd never seen possible you know what I mean so it was
10:04like yeah
10:04sure we would love it we were talking that shit when we were little like we're the SNL for kids
10:08right you were though yeah it was like yeah we would love all that all that Keaton and Keller was
10:14legitimately hilarious shows though thank you yeah they were great like it's not just like great
10:19casted shows you know what I mean and great well-written shows and like performance was like a nice
10:24perfect storm you know I'm saying of something new and a platform that would allow for new ideas like
10:31having fucking top 20 or whatever kind of hip-hop and R&B artists kind of like on the
10:38regular basis as opposed to just like pop artists kind of shit you know I'm saying right it was a
10:42specific kind of you know a vibe in the beginning kind of shape so shout out to them for letting
10:48us
10:48take a chance and like give God the glory for talented kids man yeah it was pretty great that's
10:54all I grew up on all that Amanda show yeah Keaton and Kel so yeah so when SNL came calling
11:00it was
11:02like holy shit you know I'm saying I never really thought that I'd be living in New York longer than
11:07I've
11:07lived anywhere right I'm living in New York longer than I've lived in Atlanta bro that's crazy that's
11:11crazy yeah and I'm not not gonna get into like who's gonna leave but at like at like 23 years
11:19you
11:19still and clearly enjoy it yeah and that's where I guess is my point like with Lauren is like am
11:26I
11:26facing one of those moments where I'm like I'm kind of like no I'm good here and I think I
11:30did have
11:31one of those like decision-making things probably around you know once I'd like caught Darryl you
11:40know Darryl was like 14 right that's why I came I wanted that yeah that was my that was the
11:45big the
11:45first three years I was there was the big like this came in gonna stay yeah it was like this
11:50like
11:50overall like hum in the office and then we would all you're revered there man you're loved and revered and
11:57and everyone fucking enjoys you and I hope God bless man yeah you're so legendary we're like if
12:04there needs to be a fucking laugh anywhere they'll just make let's just cut let's just cut to Keenan
12:08that's right man yeah you know like it's yes it works sometimes and then like you know it starts to
12:14stale out and you look for new things but that's the beauty of the show because it just continues to
12:20like have to be reinvented every week you know I mean just because like that's the deal with the devil
12:26you know
12:26like we're gonna do a live show for 90 minutes every single week right and we're gonna make it as
12:31dope as possible but you just like you enjoy the like the makeup you put it on crazy shit
12:39so oh yeah no it's no you're like knowing I enjoy the finished product you know I'm saying like I
12:46enjoy seeing that magic because together you know like we do really good work you know what I mean
12:52like we do crazy shit like sometimes yeah they just throw you out there and like an alien head or
12:58something kind of nothing to the bit yeah even if you have like one line it's our job to kind
13:03of
13:03try to make it work you know what I mean so like that's always the the plank walk is like
13:08all right
13:09you know I got this big swing of an image what can I do with it kind of thing what's
13:14your favorite
13:14moment from SNF whether it's a sketch or like some interaction you have with like a host like my
13:20favorite part ever was watching Mr. Bunting on the floor that sketch where we did Dead Poets Society my
13:29head gets cut off because the sketch was like three minutes but the first minute and a half it's
13:37serious it's just like Fred Armisen's the teacher he's firing and everyone's doing like oh captain
13:41my captain all that type of shit and I was like I want to watch this on the floor because
13:46nothing
13:47happens until my head gets cut off yeah and it was the loudest sound I ever heard yeah still to
13:52this
13:52day like from me doing stand-up any any fucking thing I've ever done I've never heard a reaction
14:00like that before and I just remember sitting like on the floor like watching everybody like because I
14:04knew what was coming and it paid off so big yeah that was that like an addicting feeling like when
14:11you
14:11hit the golf ball right kind of thing yeah I was like I'll never catch I'll never catch this I
14:16think
14:16that's the dragon you know they were all trying to catch basically like right I want a big room
14:21explosion kind of thing yeah I mean the worst is like having a bad show and just being at that
14:25party
14:26and you're just like it's tough or just having a bad run of shows kind of sharing anything like that
14:32or just I don't know your personal life being upside down or anything that's tough bro it's all kind
14:38of shit I mean like just that decision-making of the no matter what that the show must go on
14:44and all that
14:44shit it's a great equalizer as well because you're like no matter what I have to do this and this
14:50is
14:50going to happen yep I could fucking be in my feelings and not do it or this is something that
14:57lasts forever yeah people go back you're like might as well get like my release out of it and I've
15:02been
15:02on like both sides but like I've just been like I can't yeah I mean sometimes I'm like I'm gonna
15:07fuck
15:07it's a crazy dichotomy because it's like yeah okay the party's gonna happen whether you go or not
15:12like I hear you but at the same time it's like am I in the mood to go to a
15:16fucking party you know
15:17what I'm saying like I still have the right to choose where my happiness kind of lies but at the
15:23same
15:23time this is this is where it becomes a job kind of shit yes yeah dude what we for about
15:31two seasons I
15:33don't know how this happened would do a bit where we would just it was Franklin and Bash yeah but
15:41what how
15:42that's the beauty of SNL like bits come out of nowhere but what was that when you really enjoy
15:47the the dumber ones especially the ones that make no sense they linger and like I don't think it'll
15:53be something that won't make us laugh for life because I'm glad I have that ability to like right
15:59continue watching like most comedies and just laugh each time and like right I actually get excited in
16:07different ways I start laughing early you know I'm saying because I know a joke is coming kind of
16:10shit I just get amused at hearing the performance of that particular line reading over and over again
16:16right it's it's great I'm glad I maintain that I think I don't know how exactly happened I have no
16:21idea I think the Cosby shit was happening yes in real time Cosby was in the news and there was
16:26a
16:26Franklin and Bash like because you always had the TV rocking in your office and Franklin and Bash like a
16:33commercial came on yeah but when we just I think we just noticed that the name all the names in
16:38it
16:38were so insane so crazy you I think picked up on that and then I just started doing the voice
16:43no it's like it's reading the cast list of Franklin and Bash became the longest bit that we would do
16:49that no one else would laugh at nobody let no one had any idea it was so angry when we
16:53were trying to
16:53explain it and do it and they had to sit through it but it would make us laugh so hard
16:59it's Bracken
17:00Mark Paul Gossel Mark Paul Gossel Reed Diamond he says it and we're just imagining Cosby like in his
17:09house rocking in the chair Mark Paul Gossel Mark Paul Gossel Reed Diamond Malcolm McDowell
17:18Malcolm McDowell and there was one other person that was like Cosby saying Kumail Don Johnny
17:24Kumail Don Johnny and we'd be fucking dying dude like dying no one would get it no one and we'd
17:33be
17:33like uh how do you not see that that's hilarious it was because his reputation was so crazy at the
17:41time yeah that they couldn't just bypass that and be like well then we can definitely probably use this
17:46on the show because like everybody in the environment is looking for things they could
17:49probably use on the show kind of right that's where everybody's like mind is yeah as opposed
17:53to just fucking around this is hilarious no it's I still whenever I see any of their names in
17:59anything I have to say it in Cosby voice 100% the best is what Reed Diamond Reed Diamond
18:07Mark Paul Gossel fantastic name Brackenmeyer on top of a fantastically named show Franklin and Bash
18:14Franklin and Bash dude what is this it's crazy what about when we had the synthesizer oh yeah dude so
18:21we would do there was just one sketch where someone had like a synthesizer and me Kenan stayed after
18:26the sketch and we just went into it went Reed Diamond Diamond oh Mark Paul Gossel Reed Diamond yeah
18:35auto-tune that Dana Davis Dana Davis Dana Davis Dana Davis
18:42the fuck is on people's mind you never know oh if there is one thing that you haven't done yet
18:52that you would want to do
18:54mm-hmm I mean skydiving and motorcycle riding are up there kind of shit like I like
18:59thrill yeah yeah I've never really been on the motorcycle but on scooters and shit but like
19:04stayed away from motorcycles because they're you know pretty dangerous you went skydiving I haven't
19:09gone I want to go so bad I say that but I feel like I'm terrified that ride up is
19:17gonna be the worst part
19:18yeah I'm saying because it's just like and the first time of course it's like I just don't know
19:22what to expect the shit is so extreme right right I've stuck my head out the window driving before
19:27and it's not easy yeah so I don't want that panic of me trying to figure it out cause me
19:34to like choke
19:34yeah we should go dude we should do a triple strap dude it's a guy you and then me Sammy
19:42yeah
19:47let's go no like one of these days when I you know you don't have that don't risk your life
19:53clause and in your contracts and shit maybe I'll get a chance to skydive or do write a skydiving sketch
20:00yeah or a movie put that shit in a movie just that's what Tom Cruise does he writes all his
20:05favorite activities into his movies yeah I would love to be on the insurance board of one of his films
20:12we're going so you're gonna I'm sorry drive a motorcycle off of a cliff and skydive onto a
20:18train no and it's gonna be you yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah it's gotta be me yeah it's me
20:24the whole
20:25thing no one else yeah shot right here yeah yeah shot there all right well you're 20 for 20 so
20:32okay
20:33he's the one famous person I have never seen in real life and to me he's not real yeah those
20:40last three
20:41mission impossibles were insane it's ridiculous it was like how could I almost die on camera
20:47constantly yeah constantly broke his shit yeah jumping from building to building 60 years old
20:54he's like I'm gonna jump off Jackie Chan style remember when Jackie Chan like jumped on that
20:57fucking hovercraft shit and like you only found out about it in the credits we watched that whole movie
21:03of him beating ass and didn't know his ankle was broke oh the best is the rush hour bloopers
21:08where he like flips up the gun and uh and he's like I'll get it he's like I'll get it
21:13this motherfucker
21:14jumping through the cage at the casino headbutts the bars the first time and then the second time
21:21he can't scoot because it's like a little too because it's kind of impossible and then the third time he
21:25just does it yeah that's crazy yeah it's some of the shit where I'm just like yeah and to be
21:31able to
21:32act and be lovable and likable on top of that yeah it's like shout him out man that that that
21:37was a
21:38difference between I think him and Jet Li you know like Jet Li Jet Li was fucking fast and furious
21:44if
21:44Jet Li was funny oh it would have been a problem it would have been over yeah the funny part
21:48was like
21:48watching him try to be funny right hilarious oh no no no if he had some like jokes and cradle
21:54to the grave yeah
21:55yeah exactly like ran up the wall try to say something pretty slick
22:02yeah so the thing I've been asking everyone common thing oh interesting one thing I've been asking
22:06everybody at the end is um what is something you learned from your own experience that wasn't passed
22:13down to you uh like from like a big bro or like just someone who's who knows the game what's
22:19something
22:20from your own experience that you find useful I want to say my favorite lesson in the game
22:29like to not to you know steal from the wire but it's like the game gonna be the game you
22:35know right and
22:35always kind of shit like it just it is what it is so the sooner I think you realize that
22:44it's like
22:46a game you know I mean I think you can play it accordingly as opposed to like letting everything
22:51live or die based off of it kind of shit right like you don't live or die off of Uno
22:55you know
22:56what I'm saying it's like if I won great you know we had a fun you know Uno night amongst
23:00friends and like
23:01that's what really kind of matters it's like time spent and quality so knowing where your quality of
23:07life kind of should be placed I think a lot of people say that about me it's like you never
23:12seen
23:12bothered or whatever you know that's now kind of shit like you never seen no that is true you have
23:16you have you're always on because I just I leave work at work you know I'm saying and like I
23:21can't act
23:22I can't pretend that I can make work cater to you know me feeling a certain way about anything you
23:32know right it's it's not it's not healthy to live or die on this I don't think so right it's
23:37not because
23:38it's like not that it's fake but it's it's more fleeting than like your real natural surroundings kind
23:45of shit you know what I'm saying so it's like arms length only metaphorically like you know yes anybody
23:55that I run into outside of work you know what I mean like the friendship will still be the same
23:59kind
23:59of shit if we have a genuine friendship at the same time but it's such a stressful environment I've seen
24:06so many personalities be different you know I'm saying and I'm not really a big fan of like being one
24:12way one day in another way you know kind of based on a situation whatever kind of shit I try
24:16to you're
24:17always keen I tried to be right I mean I try to like yes understand what you might be upset
24:21or you
24:22might be pissed or you might be this and that the other but I'm never like you know shutting off
24:26on
24:26people and I've seen that so like right that's where I'm like oh like I don't want to just get
24:31overly
24:31familiar with every single person like the ones that you know actually crossed the threshold of you
24:37know being able to be called a friend great right kind of shit and the rest of it is like
24:41we
24:42got a job to do right and I get it and a lot of motherfuckers you know I mean like
24:46motherfuckers
24:47there's like lifting walls and shit like that they're not living and dying on these jokes kind
24:51of shit like they're living and dying on you know their hourly rate so they can feed their children or
24:56they can like live and feed themselves kind of shit you know I mean it's like the bigger picture of
25:01just
25:01existing in life kind of shit always kind of helped me be like yeah I kind of don't really give
25:07a
25:07fuck the only thing that matters is did we get a laugh just now right now I wish like I
25:12learned
25:13that sooner that's something that's like newer in my life where like um because once you learn that
25:18skill you feel embarrassed because of how you have with like having a kid really help where
25:28you know if I was up I'm up for something and I don't get it I used to genuinely be
25:32like what the
25:34fuck and now I'm just like oh all right yeah maybe there'll be another thing or whatever and I'm like
25:40fuck I wish I had this skill like for the last all the more reason to continue to spread the
25:47word you
25:47know what I'm saying like the each one teach one goes a long way write a book you know what
25:52I'm saying like
25:52maybe some kid you'll just help them skip a bunch of phases of just not knowing how to navigate this
25:59that and the other or whatever and like bumping into the same walls you know I'm saying that we
26:03did kind of shake it hurts when you bump your head you know oh yeah or you get burned especially
26:08when
26:08everyone sees it yeah like people who are seeing it as are like all like like you do not want
26:14people
26:15like that to see you like low you know what I mean it's not like it's a lot of people
26:19looking at you
26:20yeah you know what I mean like when you're an SNL cast member it's different from being
26:24in any other department you know what I mean like our main thing is that we are the face of
26:29kind of right so everybody is looking and indirectly looking like not necessarily looking
26:34you in the eye right everybody's watching everybody's aware of everything around you kind
26:39of shit in and out of your life kind of shit or whatever so to constantly go into those
26:44kind of like lion's dens you know I mean just because you just feel like you're being so watched
26:51you know what I mean it's it's a tough fucking place man that's a tough thing it's like you want
26:55to move to bumblefuck you know what I'm saying yeah just yeah be out in your own fucking like
27:00existence you know I'm saying like yeah 3000 was just saying Andre 3000 that is the only one um
27:08it's either that or the bernie mack movie yeah yeah I do like baseball especially black guy
27:15baseball old man black guy baseball old man black guy baseball it's crazy 3000 just said in that
27:25interview that he finally came back and did that one you know long day with yeah that one you know
27:30interviewer guy he was like man fame sucks you know what I mean just because it is so unnatural
27:34you know what I mean it's hard to be the one where your existence is so much drastically different
27:40from everyone around you you know what I'm saying yeah even just going to the store dude I don't
27:45necessarily overly agree that fame sucks necessarily because it does have its it has its it has its ups
27:51you know what I mean and it has its capabilities of helping to do for the world further than if
27:56I
27:57did just have a normal kind of job you know what I mean like I'm able to
28:01platform a lot of you know causes and you know things like that kind of stuff or whatever which
28:07is what I try to use you know the fame for or just you know a nice you know dinner
28:13reservation yeah
28:15sometimes you know sometimes it's nice it works yeah especially on mother's but you're gonna be
28:18looked at at that dinner though oh you know you know somebody gonna look at you but at least you're
28:24getting in without waiting let's go let's go dude thank you for coming dude I love you
