00:00New plans to transform land around the Metro Centre in Gateshead have been sent to the
00:06government for scrutiny. The Metro Green Area Action Plan includes proposals for 990 homes
00:13on brownfield land by 2030. This is part of wider plans to create a new neighbourhood
00:18in the area. The plans act as part of a wider scheme for 4,500 homes. An independent inspector
00:25will now review these plans and then may suggest changes before councillors decide
00:30whether to adopt them. One councillor said the development aims to link homes with jobs,
00:36shops and leisure. Metro Centre Chairman Martin Healey says the wider project could
00:41support homes for 11,000 people.
