00:02Demolition of the A167 Gateshead Highway flyover will begin next month following its safety-related
00:08sudden closure in December 2024. The 1960s structure carried around 40,000 vehicles a day
00:15and its closure caused problems to traffic and the metro. Gateshead Council says the demolition
00:21has been carefully planned and is expected to take until October, with further works
00:27continuing until December. Heavy-duty steel props have been installed to support the flyover
00:32as machines cut through concrete and steel tendons. Officials say disruption will be minimised
00:38and once complete will open regeneration opportunities for the town centre.
