TAEMIN joins Bru in our Los Angeles studios between performances at Coachella, talking about his debut at the first male solo K-Pop artist at the festival, new performance of new music, and much more.

00:01What's going on? It's Brew. Taymin, so good to see you. Thank you for being here and giving us some

00:06of your time. It's a busy week in between Coachella sets. By the way, congratulations. Thank you so much. Such

00:12a great set. I mean, it's been received so well. It was your first time taking the Coachella stage. I

00:17just want to know the feelings in your body, going through your mind. What was it like taking that iconic

00:21stage?

00:22Well, I appreciate you making the time.

00:52Well, you should be taking a break. But you're so right. I never thought about it like that. You get

00:57to work on things and perfect it and come back out and get another shot at it. But also just

01:02being the first male solo K-pop artist to take that stage. Personally, what did that mean to you?

01:39Yeah, I didn't think about that. For a first festival to be to Coachella is a huge accomplishment, and we're

01:45in a new era for you. You debuted six new songs on that stage, and you talk about the nerves.

01:50I'm just curious, what were the nerves like getting to debut these new songs on such a big stage for

01:55the first time?

02:21Yeah, no, obviously people loved it. Were you watching at all in the crowd?

02:38For the crowd's reaction to this new music, and what was your takeaway from that?

02:42First of all, I was watching a lot of things, but I didn't get a lot of nervous, and I

02:49didn't get a lot of nervous.

02:51I thought I was watching a lot from the last time.

02:59I thought I was watching a lot from the audience, and I thought I was watching a lot from the

03:11audience.

03:11Totally. Yeah, you're right. It's probably a blackout kind of thing, because there's so many emotions and stuff running through

03:16your body.

03:16Is there anything on stage though you noticed? Maybe not looking for reaction, but was there anything fun or unique

03:21you saw on stage?

03:22Because it is such a wild festival, and so many different fans and crowds.

03:25Just curious if you saw anything up there that you're like, wow, that's cool.

03:54Yeah, and I love that you went back and got to watch it and see some of the reception and

03:57everything.

03:58What do you hope is the main message that your fans take away from this new music that you debuted?

04:02What kind of message?

04:05Well, first of all, I'd like to have a look at my color, and I'd like to feel the personality

04:13of the music world.

04:15I'd like to feel the personality of the artist.

04:21I'd like to feel the personality of the new songs.

04:24I'd like to feel the value of my feelings, and I'd like to feel the value of my feelings.

04:41Absolutely.

04:42Well, on the other side of just the music is your performing.

04:45One of your biggest strengths is your on stage performance, and how important was that to emphasize it for a

04:51festival performance?

04:53And then also to do it solo.

04:55You're on your own up there.

05:21Yeah.

05:22That's wild to think.

05:23Eighteen years.

05:24You've been doing it for so long.

05:25Like you said, grinding.

05:26But solo since 2014, how do you feel you've grown since that time?

05:31Because even since 2014 is such a long time.

05:33How have you seen yourself grow as a solo artist since that time?

05:36Yeah.

05:36I think I'm going to be able to create a color,

05:41and I'm going to try to create a new vibe.

05:48I've been trying to create a new song from the first time,

05:51and I've been trying to create a new style,

05:57and I've been trying to create a new identity.

06:00I've been trying to get a new song from the beginning,

06:02But if you look at this long time,

06:05I can see how my identity has become,

06:08and the color has become,

06:09and how it has become.

06:12Oh my gosh, yeah.

06:13I mean, speak of identity,

06:14you are considered the idol's idol,

06:16which has to be like the biggest compliment ever.

06:18What is it about other artists that you think

06:20that they appreciate about your craft,

06:22and does that carry extra weight for you?

06:24Um, 일단 저 또한 이제,

06:28저보다 먼저 활동을 했던 그런 아티스트 분들께서

06:32개척해 준 그런 것들을 보고 동경하고,

06:35그리고 그런 것들을 좀 따라 어떻게 보면은

06:38또 저는 또 제가 무언가를 개척을

06:40향하게 된 것 같은데, 감사하게도.

06:43그래서 이런 것들을 되게 좋게 봐준

06:46그 밑에 후배분들이 있었던 것 같고,

06:49그거에 대해서 이제 부담이라기보다

06:51좀 되게 좀 뿌듯하게 느끼는 편인 것 같고요.

06:53그런 친구들한테 앞으로도

06:56좋은 귀감이 될 수 있도록

06:58해야 되는 게 저의 역할인 것 같습니다.

07:04I'm curious as an artist who's been doing this

07:06for a long time now,

07:07where you're finding the most creativity?

07:09Whether that's songwriting or working on choreography

07:12or is it journaling or another hobby?

07:15Where are you finding that most creativity for you?

07:27책이나 이런 데서 영감을 얻기도 하지만,

07:34아, 뭐 최근에 느꼈던 것 중에서 하나는 뭐였더라?

07:38뭐 예를 들어 우주, 과학, 양자역학,

07:42이런 것들에 있어서 그런 거에서 조금 영감을 얻는 편인 것 같습니다.

07:53Well, dialing it away from quantum physics,

07:55back into music,

07:56where is that creative focus getting put into next?

07:59Is it, would you say, a full album,

08:01mini album, singles?

08:02If you can share for your fans what's next,

08:05what does that look like for you?

08:06Oh, 사실 지금 그거에 대한 지금,

08:11계획을 좀 정하는 중이에요.

08:13근데 사실 곡들은 너무 많아가지고,

08:15아마 싱글이 먼저 나올 것 같고,

08:18그 다음에 미니나 정규가 나오지 않을까,

08:20이렇게 생각을 하고 있습니다.

08:21제가 느끼고 있는 이제 그런 어떻게 보면은

08:25이런 것들을 고스란히 좀 담은 앨범들이 조금

08:28이번에 나오지 않을까라는 생각을 합니다.
