Monmouth MP Catherine Fookes joins citizen scientists to test water quality in the Wye at Monmouth
Transcript
00:00I'm here with Richard from Friends of the River Wye and I've just been testing the water in the river.
00:06It's so important that we clean up our rivers. For too long we haven't been able to swim, to enjoy
00:12our rivers
00:12and obviously wildlife is really suffering. We're here because we all care deeply about the rivers in Monmouthshire
00:20and we really need to do something about them. This Citizen Science Project is part of that, isn't it Richard?
00:25Absolutely, and the Wye, you know, it's designated a site of international importance, SAC, because of its ranunculus,
00:35but the salmon, the lampreys, various other species in there. But its official status is unfavourable.
00:44It's not meeting its targets even though it's a site of international importance. So we hope our data
00:50can be used by Environment Agency and National Resources Wales to better understand what the causes
00:56of those failures are and of course take action. Yeah, and clean it up. So that's what we're determined
01:01to do together and you can help too by getting involved.
