00:07This is the NBA on Peacock.
00:11These are the 2026 NBA Playoffs presented by Google.
00:16Tonight, it's game two as the Philadelphia 76ers visit the Boston Celtics.
00:22Brought to you by Kia.
00:25Never has one city used the phrase gap year more than Boston this year.
00:34And never has one city stretched the definition of gap year more than Boston this year.
00:40A juggernaut.
00:41Boston Celtics team after a game one demolition of Philadelphia comes in with a 1-0 lead in game number
00:49two in the first round of the playoffs.
00:52Jason Bonetti, Robbie Hummel, Jordan Cornett in a moment.
00:56Gap years are supposed to be like leisurely vacation.
00:59Strolls through Europe and the Celtics just retooled and reloaded.
01:03And then you hear Jason Tatum say after game one that he's ramping up.
01:08If 25-11-7 is ramping up, the rest of the league look out for what he's going to look
01:13like in just a month or so.
01:15But it's been amazing to see the organizational strength and culture of what Boston's been able to build here.
01:21The player development.
01:22Now you get a guy like Tatum back in the fold.
01:24You've got role guys who have played at a high level all year long.
01:28This Boston team is a monster to both guard and go against.
01:32And the understanding of what they are and how they do business.
01:35Well, and it's just it starts with the top with Joe Missoula and it just feeds all the way down.
01:40The role definition is as good as anywhere that you're going to see in the NBA.
01:45Humble superstars in Tatum and Brown.
01:47Those guys share the spotlight.
01:49Boston so, so impressive in that game one.
01:52Certainly 32-point win.
01:54But Nick Nurse said to us earlier just about an hour ago, he said you can't overreact in the NBA
01:59playoffs.
02:00You just can't do it.
02:01He knows it.
02:01He's won a title.
02:02What does that look like tonight for Philadelphia?
02:04And it doesn't matter if you lose by one or 30.
02:07You're still down just 0-1.
02:09I think that's the approach that Philadelphia is taking.
02:12It's going to take a more aggressive approach from their best players.
02:15It's Tyrese Maxey.
02:17It's Vijay Edskum.
02:18It's Paul George.
02:19Those guys have got to be more assertive.
02:21They've got to step up and make some shots.
02:23They've got good looks from three.
02:25They've got good looks at the rim.
02:26They've got to be more efficient offensively.
02:28They've got to get rid of the live ball turnovers.
02:30Those can't happen tonight, especially on the road.
02:33Boston, 20 fast break points.
02:34They don't even look to run.
02:36They're 30th in pace.
02:37Those things have got to be cleaned up.
02:38But I fully expect a much more put-together effort tonight from Philadelphia.
02:43And part of that is Tyrese Maxey, who moments ago caught up with Jordan Cornett.
02:49Tyrese, obviously game one didn't go the way you guys would like.
02:52What's the biggest adjustment that needs to be made in this one?
02:54Yeah, we've got to play harder.
02:55Play more physical.
02:56Play the right way.
02:56Play together.
02:57And knock down shots.
02:59Talked to Coach Nurse earlier today, and he said,
03:00I need my star to be more aggressive.
03:02I've been in his ear about that.
03:03What does that entail from your perspective?
03:05Yeah, I just got to be more aggressive.
03:06We've got to take the shots that I'm giving and also get into pain and create plays for
03:09my teammates as well.
03:10You know, I was watching you guys today in shoot-around.
03:12You guys seem very positive.
03:14It doesn't look like a team that did not have the night they wanted in game one.
03:17How would you describe the mentality for your team going into this one?
03:19Yeah, it happens.
03:20It happens.
03:20You've got to flush that one.
03:21It's 1-0, and we've got to try to do our best to get it 1-1 until we go
03:25back home.
03:25For that to happen, what do you guys need to do tonight?
03:28Fight like hell.
03:29Fight like hell, man, and do a good job of staying together.
03:31It's going to be highs.
03:32It's going to be lows, man.
03:33It's going to get loud in there.
03:33They're going to go on runs, we're going to go on runs, but at the end of the day,
03:36the objective is just to win.
03:38Tyrese, good luck in the fight.
03:39Appreciate it.
03:41We saw a bunch of teams fight like that last night in the NBA to steal game two on the
03:46road.
03:46Can the Sixers do it here in Boston?
03:49Tonight, tip-off just around the corner.
03:56Let's take a look at tonight's DraftKings player tracker.
03:59Tyrese Maxey, who led the NBA in minutes, needs to have a big one again tonight.
04:04Jalen Brown off a fantastic game one.

04:34Here in Boston, game number two.
04:37Here in Boston, game number two of this first-round Eastern Conference playoff series.
04:42The Celtics and the 76ers.
04:45And time now for our DoorDash starting lineups first for Philadelphia.
04:52Tyrese Maxey, University of Kentucky.
04:55Fiji Aju, Bentley University.
04:57Kelly Oubre Jr., the University of Kansas.
05:01Paul George, Fresno State.
05:10Nick Nurse, year number three for Philadelphia.
05:15Last year, 24 and 58.
05:18He's somewhere out there.
05:20That is what it was like in game number one, somewhat at points for the 76ers who try to bounce
05:27back.
05:27He is as even keeled as you can get about this, as we will listen to
05:31to the introduction of the Boston Celtics.
05:49Oh, it's a turn, fires it, and he did it!
05:52Brown fading away.
05:55Clousers three is up, and good!
05:57The trade-off on the side!
05:59The Bucs is eating king!
06:02Nick Nurse, oh!
06:03Shireman.
06:04Wow!
06:06David Ryan!
06:08And it's in!
06:09Wow!
06:10Oh, my!
06:12Tayden puts up a three!
06:14And nice to Tayden from downtown!

07:37This place...
07:38Is a powder keg.
07:42Celtics...
07:4476ers...
07:45Next...
07:53This is the place to be tonight in Boston.
07:56That's an understatement.
07:57This place is on fire here.
07:59As it is every night.
08:00But the playoff atmosphere here at the Boston Garden...
08:03It is a different level and different atmosphere.

17:02We, I don't think we matched the physicality to toughness.
17:07You know, essentially they had a lot of possessions where they just walked to the room for easy layups.
17:14You know, there was just no resistance at a lot of times throughout the game.
17:21And that's, you know, that's not playoff basketball.
17:29He would know that's his 116th career playoff game.
17:32It's our quote book brought to you by Liberty Mutual Insurance.
17:34Well, it was the approach and the toughness, but it was also a lot of other things.
17:38Philly 29 of 58 on shots in the paint, 15 of 27 on shots inside the restricted areas.
17:44They struggled at the rim, 423 from three, and on top of all that, 14 turnovers to a much better
17:50start here for the 76ers on both ends.
17:54Defensive glass has been a problem.
17:56It certainly has.
17:57It's been one all year long, especially without it being the lineup.
18:00Kato holds the string to knock it down for two.
18:03I love the way Kato has done a great job this year of figuring out how to just make himself
18:08available.
18:09Find that open area and off the dribble drive.
18:11He's got that touch with that nice little right floater.
18:16Andre Drummond has checked in for Philadelphia as the Sixers have missed four in a row now.
18:23Kato, the first NBA player from Portugal.
18:29Hauser, a little stuttered step.
18:31Here's White.
18:32Off the spin on edge.
18:33Got Matt.
18:34Wow.
18:34That's nasty.
18:35It didn't fall.
18:41Ready, ready, ready, ready.
18:45Hauser hands backseat to Jalen Brown halfway through the shot clock.
18:52Edgcum against White with some body.
18:55Here's Oubre.
18:56That's no good.
18:57These three have had a mess.
18:58That's kind of a lost possession in Kelly Oubre.
19:01Much like Vijay Edgcum now won his last 13 from the three-point line.
19:22And Oubre just not where it needs to be.
19:24And you have got to know where Sam Hauser is.
19:28Maxi no dice.
19:30Rebound Kato.
19:33Celtics will pick their spots.
19:35Hauser.
19:36No rebound.
19:38Tipped out of bounds.
19:39And it is going to be Boston basketball.
19:42It looked like maybe Brown came over the top.
19:44We'll see.
19:44Well, take a look at Kato here.
19:46He is calling for this thing the whole way.
19:48Now you got Hauser locked and low in the corner.
19:51Oubre's picked off.
19:52Andre Drummond not close.
19:54Sam Hauser, his hot shooting continues on.
19:57That pass on time and on target from Tatum.
20:00Big-time offense by the Celtics.
20:02B.J. Edgcum is limping off to the sideline.
20:04That is a huge loss.
20:06It is.
20:08Nikola Vucevic has checked in.
20:10The former Chicago Bulls.
20:12There's a long step and a foul.
20:13Jalen Brown getting to the rim.
20:15Edgcum's going to the locker room.
20:19So watch where it happened on this rebounding action earlier.
20:23Oh, man.
20:24Hard fall there.
20:29As we see that, it's two on Oubre.
20:34So Philadelphia, which is not an extraordinarily deep team in the first place,
20:40with Joel Embiid out for the time being,
20:42just starting his strength and conditioning program,
20:45they're going to have to go deep into the bench today.
20:49Justin Edwards, who gives him 15 minutes per game,
20:52the second-year man out of Kentucky, will check in for Oubre.
20:55Well, he does bring shooting.
20:57You know, Oubre's been struggling with the jump shot,
20:59but Justin Edwards has six of his last 11 over the last two games.
21:03So that does give some floor balance there in terms of spreading the court.
21:08But they're going to need their bench in a big way.
21:10They already needed more from Quinton Grimes.
21:12We'll see if he can give it to them.
21:14And now Justin Edwards, some big, big minutes here in this first quarter.
21:20Grimes pops out to get it.
21:21Nick Nurse told us they're going to give him the ball early when he's in the game,
21:24see if he can attack, and he ends up in the trees there.
21:29Hayden Pritchard off the bench, start and stop for Brown,
21:32right down the lane, bowling ball for Boston.
21:35He is so strong and so under control.
21:38And I love the way Boston, even though they're 30th in pace,
21:41they will be opportunistic.
21:43Kaylin Brown especially looking for his transition baskets.
21:47Maxi, no.
21:4913-0 run for the Celtics.
21:52Eight in a row missed for the Sixers.
21:55Pritchard, catch, shoot, step back.
21:58And the rebound for Grimes.
22:05Grimes taking the advice to a heart, trying to size up the shot.
22:08Message received here.
22:19He has to be aggressive, but Maxi has struggled himself from the three-point line.
22:24It's been everybody for Philadelphia.
22:27Nice recovery by Philly there.
22:31Brown back to the goal, spit it out, Vucevic.
22:34It's a little foot fan.
22:36What a pass, though, from Jalen Brown to get that thing out.
22:40Double team coming over, and that's where Nikola Vucevic,
22:43he brings a different dynamic.
22:45A shooting big right there.
22:47His numbers have been a little bit down.
22:49Certainly the injury impacted him.
22:51But this Boston offense, they have weapons everywhere.
22:5626 points with 3.15 left to play.
22:59It's Jalen Brown getting downhill, getting to the rim.
23:02Then he's drawing a crowd.
23:03Vucevic is cashing this thing out from three.
23:06And the Boston Celtics offense just keeps rolling on.
23:14Let's check on tonight's DraftKings player tracker.
23:19Jalen Brown on the average of 28.5.
23:24Has a plus-minus of 13 so far.
23:28DraftKings, the number one sportsbook for live betting.
23:30To get in on the action, download the app and use promo code DUNK when you sign up.
23:35So Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown, 25 points plus, 19 times both of them in a playoff game.
23:42And historically, that's more than any other pair in Celtics history.
23:47Finally, the Sixers get their first three.
23:50It's Maxie.
23:50With Boston playing that deep drop, it's on the guy guarding the ball.
23:54It's who's defending Tyrese Maxie straight up.
23:57You've got to get over that thing and you've got to get a contest from the backside,
24:01which, honestly, Boston's as good as any team in the NBA.
24:05Hang on, there's a two-car pileup by Aftonary.
24:08It's Paul George getting knocked over.
24:11Back to the maxi three with a drop cover.
24:13Yeah, good screen there by Andre Drummond.
24:15Jalen Brown trying to run out there.
24:17You've got Vuce back there in the drop.
24:19This is the pileup you were talking about, the takedown by Paul George.
24:25But that's money where your mouth is, right?
24:27Like, be better on drives off the ball on the ball.
24:31Paul is running around.
24:32He's ditching out so much punishment with his physicality.
24:36Paul George going to try to match that here tonight without overdoing it.
24:40White.
24:40Too strong.
24:42Tipped by Vucevic.
24:44Richard thought about it.
24:47And missed it.
24:48Great box out for Maxie in Philadelphia.
24:52On the drive.
24:54No good off the window.
24:55The tip is down for Andre Drummond.
24:58Andre Drummond third in the NBA.
25:00An offensive rebound percentage just getting to the rim there.
25:03You've got the shot blockers coming over.
25:06Drummond's certainly a factor with those tipbacks and offensive rebounds.
25:11That's the first Philadelphia offensive rebound of the game.
25:15When you think about Andre Drummond, 17 career playoff games before this year.
25:22Year number 14 in his career.
25:24He's only won two playoff games all time.
25:28Trying to will this team back as Jordan has more.
25:33Drummond and talking with him today.
25:35He simply said, there's some guys with playoff experience on our roster.
25:38There's some without it.
25:39I'm one with a ton of it.
25:40So guys need to be able to count on me.
25:42When my number's called, my mentality is, tonight is the same as any other night for me.
25:46I am focused.
25:47I am ready.
25:48I will go out there and be a professional.
25:50Quick start for the big fella.
25:53Very quick start.
25:54And they need him on a day like today, certainly.
25:59Free throw for Brown.
26:01Rolls out.
26:0480% free throw shooter.
26:05And an empty set for Boston as we whittle down to two minutes in the first.
26:12That's huge for Grimes and his Sixers.
26:15Well, it's just as simple with that nail help as just coming off the ball screen, kicking in the head.
26:20And that's exactly what Quinton Grimes needs to be.
26:22Aggressive and looking for his shot, especially from the three-point line.
26:26It's an 8-0 run for the Sixers.
26:28Pritchard out of a double rotation.
26:30Hounded by Grimes.
26:32Maxie is free for the slam.
26:34It's a 10-0 run.
26:35Boy, he read that perfectly.
26:37Two on the ball.
26:38Maxie is shooting through there like a defensive back.
26:52Brown feeling his way into Barlow.
26:54Trying to drive.
26:55Double comes from Maxie.
26:58Pritchard picked up his dribble and floats it up.
27:01No rim.
27:02It's out of bounds or a shot clock violation.
27:04It's both.
27:05And the 76ers will take over.
27:07Back-to-back solid defensive possessions.
27:09Their rotations on both of those plays, on point.
27:12That's the type of effort that Philly's going to need.
27:16Jayden McDaniels would love the defense.
27:19He was big on the Denver defense last night, wasn't he?
27:22I think they're going to get a foul against Drummond here.
27:24They're going to wave it off.
27:25Drummond is clapping at Derrick White.
27:29Andre Drummond is like, nice job selling it on the illegal screen.
27:34The foul against Drummond.
27:35I don't know why he's saying that.
27:37His legs are outside of his shoulders.
27:38He's sliding.
27:39He's moving.
27:39Like, he's got three different ways he could get called for a moving screen there.
27:44That is the first Philadelphia turnover in the game, which has helped him improve.
27:51Boots in it.
27:52He gives Boston a very different dynamic at the five, and his numbers are not going to be what they
27:59were in Chicago.
27:59The volume's not there, but he could be a major factor on offense for this team.
28:04That's a good one.
28:05Rhymes a misread, or Barlow did.
28:09Here's Vuc.
28:10A little ball fake, put it on the floor, and showing the touch.
28:14He can score with his back to the basket as well.
28:16A really skilled player.
28:20Came over in early February.
28:22Broke that ring finger, but now back in the rotation.
28:25Brown really tough.
28:26Good defense by Dominic Barlow there, but they've got to close out the possessions.
28:29That's easier said than done for Philly.
28:32White the miss.
28:33They dodged one that time.
28:34The Sixers did.
28:36Shot clock is off.
28:37This could be, at closest, a two-point game at the end of the first.
28:43Boston went on a 16-0 run to lead by 13.
28:48Screen for Barlow.
28:50And we're going to foul before the shot.
28:53Well, Nick Fowler's on number 27.
28:56It's on the staunch defender, Jordan Walsh.
28:59The last two minutes.
29:08Philly is going to sub here quickly.
29:11Paul George back in with his two fouls.
29:18Edgecombe's going to come in as well.
29:20Nick Nurse has a moment, so they're going to set up for this offensive possession.
29:24What do you like here?
29:25I think you have to think with Maxie being the inbounder, probably Paul George.
29:30Certainly could be Edgecombe.
29:33Well, now Baylor Seinfeld is going to come in as a flexible defender.
29:39This is very close-range chess.
29:42Yeah.
29:42But this could also be the hit and the handoff for Maxie here.
29:49Bryce turns on Treacher.
29:51Gave a shoulder and can't score.
29:53The tip won't fall.
29:54The third try goes down.
29:56Paul George got a hand on it.
29:58Wow.
29:58That's batted into nowhere and nearly turned into a sham.
30:02How about the lineup of all wings and guards for Philly?
30:05Gets the offensive rebound putback.
30:08You know, necessity is the mother of invention.
30:11Well, and you got Boston always flying around for those weird contests.
30:15Paul George getting a fingertip on it.
30:17Philadelphia showing some toughness in the first quarter.
30:21The NBA playoffs are presented by Google.
30:24Our coverage brought to you.
30:25Philadelphia to close the first quarter.
30:27Jordan Cornett listened in on the Celtics huddle.
30:30Jordan.
30:30Heard a lot of Celtics assistant coach Sam Cassell, and he was saying the same thing over and over again.
30:36You cannot relax.
30:38Repeatedly saying it to the guys.
30:40The minute you relax, someone's not doing their job.
30:43The breakdown happens.
30:44Lock in.
30:45Lock in.
30:46Lock in, guys.
30:48Well, look, Sam knows it from those 90s Rockets teams.
30:51Those were very tough groups.
30:52Well, and from doing some of the on-the-bench games this year,
30:55I love the way that Sam Cassell interacts and deals with the players.
31:00He has a great rapport with that.
31:02Beto Shireman, man.
31:03He is shooting the cover off the ball.
31:0616 of his last 30 from three over the last five.
31:1040% for the year.
31:11He has been a revelation for the Celtics.
31:14Well, and he kind of got to get his game on late in the season with so many guys sitting
31:18out in Boston with their firm playoff footing,
31:20and he was able to really be aggressive.
31:23And I could pay dividends here in the postseason with his jump shooting being in quite the rhythm.
31:30Offensive rebound for Pritchard.
31:33Everybody, offensive rebounds for this team.
31:35These long rebounds, they can be hard to track down.
31:39Boston good at it anyway.
31:41Vucevic the cut, and he got fouled.
31:43Hauser was at mid-court yelling for the foul as Vucevic got shoved.
31:48Well, good recognition there that Vucevic had the mismatch with Justin Edwards.
31:52Shot clock getting low, and Boston not settling for a tough one,
31:55but throwing it right inside there to the big fella.
32:02We have more action from the NBA playoffs tonight.
32:04Game two of the Trail Blazers, and the Spurs tips off at 8.06 Eastern on NBC.
32:11And Peacock could be perpetual defensive player of the year.
32:15Wemby against Denny Avdia and the Trail Blazers, who acquitted themselves pretty well.
32:20Well said there.
32:21We have just – when you see him in person, Jason, the way he impacts the game
32:26and the way that NBA athletes are avoiding the paint
32:30or getting their threes blocked from what looks like he's 10 to 12 feet away,
32:35he changes the game in a way that no one else can.
32:38I will say it felt like Rudy Gobert took that a little personally last night
32:42with a defensive effort that he provided.
32:45Nice drop-off from George down low.
32:47Drummond met at the rim, and Vucevic can't believe it.
32:50Neither can the crowd.
32:51Good play there by Paul George, because he's kind of in between there.
32:55He's selling that he might take the mid-range floater, drops it off to Drummond.
33:01Drummond going up there and earning two at the foul line.
33:06The ninth overall pick in 2012, Andre Drummond picked one spot before.
33:13But one of the great Austin River.
33:15Oh, wow.
33:16I didn't realize that.
33:18You didn't want to play my trivia.
33:19Well, I know where you're going to go with this.
33:21This is the 2012 draft?
33:22I'm not going anywhere.
33:23Okay.
33:24I was just talking about Austin Rivers, Robert.
33:26I've changed since we worked at the other night.
33:29I know deep down you've not.
33:33Drummond for the second free throw.
33:36I appreciate Drummond has the elite skill of being one of the best offensive rebounders that the NBA has seen,
33:43but I do appreciate the fact that he's been willing to kind of step outside and bring a perimeter jump
33:50shooting aspect to his game.
33:51And look at the big fella now.
33:53Will they feed him?
33:54Nope.
33:54It's an easy slam.
33:55Come on.
33:58Give it to him.
33:59For one of his fans.
34:01Philadelphia has stayed in the fight here.
34:03It's a five-point game.
34:05And credit their defense.
34:07Oh, my goodness.
34:08Taylor turns the corner.
34:09A rugged turn.
34:10And he's so good at snaking that ball screen, but I am blown away with just the pop that he
34:16has,
34:16blowing right by Andre Drummond right there.
34:20After an Achilles, man.
34:21Unbelievable.
34:25Everyone that you talk to about him says that he is just a diabolical worker in the weight room,
34:30and he has to be to look like this so early.
34:32Quentin Grimes fills it up for three.
34:35Two huge triples for him so far.
34:37Well, Paul George drawing a crowd, and that's exactly what they need from Quentin Grimes
34:42to be looking for those perimeter shots.
34:44And now a great contest.
34:4694 feet of Grimes there.
34:48It's a four-point game.
34:50Edgecom blitzing down the lane.
34:52He can't finish.
34:53Drummond got tangled up in a foul against Vucevic.
34:58This is a scrappy effort from Philadelphia.
35:01Look at the attention here that Paul George, with the mismatch on Pritchard, double comes over.
35:06Tatum a little bit late on the rotation.
35:10And Quentin Grimes, Nick Nurse, told us he has got to be aggressive.
35:13He's got to look for his offense.
35:15He has done that here in this first half.
35:22Now he curls and lost the ball on the way up.
35:26Let's see.
35:27It's going to be Philadelphia ball seven to shoot.
35:29This is challengeable if the Celtics wanted to.
35:35It might be a little early for a playoff game if it's close.
35:39Mazzoula was kind of giving the.
35:42We're a little early there, but yeah.
35:44I thought.
35:46Let it tip off.
35:48Pritchard, maybe a finger there.
35:49Pritchard.
35:51That's too close to try in a postseason game, it feels like.
35:55That goes down, and it is a one-point game.
36:00Paul George and the Sixers have battled back after giving up a 16-0 run in the first.
36:07It's 35-34.
36:11Philly started the game 0 for 6 from 3, but they've now made their last four.
36:15Paul George getting in on the action here.
36:17Little dribble handoff.
36:18Look at the route, though, that Tatum is going to take here.
36:21Not locking and trailing, but trying to cheat the play.
36:24Paul George reads this perfectly.
36:26Just pops it right back to the corner.
36:28He now makes his first three of the game.
36:31And just like that, Philadelphia, who needed three-point shooting badly,
36:35four of ten from three here, with plenty of time left in the second quarter.
36:40Paul George, six times all NBA, in the playoffs, 21 points per game.
36:48He's played such a high level.
36:49There's a pride factor that came out of him that we played for you earlier,
36:53and now his team within a one.
36:58Pritchard for Shireman.
37:00Nine to shoot.
37:01His floater.
37:02His trail.
37:02That's that floater.
37:03But that's just the gravity of being able to shoot it at the level that Shireman is.
37:08Now that closeout's coming.
37:10It's the hardest thing to do in basketball.
37:12Paul George trying to contain that dribble off the close,
37:15and there is nothing doing there.
37:21Oh, he's just having fun.
37:26Boy, it's amazing.
37:27He's now made 33 threes this year,
37:30after making only 18 in his first 13 seasons.
37:34It is the definition of house money.
37:37Keita going to work for two.
37:39You talk about two centers that have certainly worked on their games.
37:43Drummond with the three-point shooting,
37:45and Keita, this guy was cut by the Sacramento Kings,
37:48comes up to the G League,
37:49and now a great starting center on a playoff contender.
37:54Two years in Sacramento, never cracked the rotation.
37:56Edgecombe fading for two.
37:59He's got a real electricity about him.
38:00When you see Vijay Edgecombe play,
38:02just the way he pops off the floor,
38:04creating that space, getting away, and rising up and firing.
38:10Tatum fought for a second of a logo three.
38:13Instead, he's going to lob it for Cato.
38:15He's stuck through.
38:16He missed it short, but Paul George makes that play.
38:18He is that low-held man,
38:20and he is right where he needs to be to take on Cato.
38:25Now the Bahamian rookie, Vijay Edgecombe,
38:28trying to take Tatum, his pull-up, misses.
38:32He gets his own and feeds it out wide.
38:39They are playing through the rookie right now.
38:42Four, three.
38:44Three to two.
38:46Drummond right at the rim,
38:48and Philadelphia leads for the first time since 13-10.
38:51How about the understanding of how much time Paul George had to operate there?
38:56Facing up, driving it,
38:57knowing it doesn't have to go up.
38:59You can make that play for somebody else.
39:03Tatum leans in.
39:04That is crafty.
39:05He saw the body coming,
39:07and he picks up the foul on George.
39:10Jason, that's that Spain ball screen
39:12where you've got the back screen in there as well.
39:15Philadelphia did not handle that well in game one.
39:18Obviously didn't handle it well.
39:20Tatum going to get the foul here,
39:22but you also had Sam Houser,
39:24who was wide open at the top of the key.
39:28Paul George making his case
39:29that Tatum didn't jump straight up.
39:33He's going on deaf ears over there.
39:35It certainly is,
39:36and it's the third on George, by the way,
39:37who has been a difference maker in this quarter.
39:41Here's the upcoming schedule in the NBA.
39:45That game two, Orlando and Detroit.
39:47How about the magic?
39:48They played so, so hard in game one.
39:52Against that tough of a team,
39:54and the Pistons felt like they built their whole reputation
39:58and that mindset that they've got
40:01is as impressive a win as we've seen in the playoffs here.
40:05You saw Cleveland and Toronto last night,
40:07your takeaway from what the Cavs did.
40:09That just the addition of James Harden
40:12and the way that him and Donovan Mitchell are fitting together
40:14could make for some real fireworks down the road here.
40:18They were nasty together last night.
40:20They have played phenomenally together.
40:23Celtics have left some money on the table
40:25from the free throw line.
40:27They are four for eight.
40:31Philadelphia by one.
40:33Edge come on the hunt with Shireman.
40:36Off the screen from Drummond.
40:38Turn around.
40:39They're going to get a travel.
40:41Traveling violation.
40:42Celtics ball.
40:43By the way, go to NBA.com.
40:45Visit the NBA app for more on that schedule.
40:47It popped in, and if you mosey over to NBC
40:52coming up in about five minutes,
40:54you're going to see the Trail Blazers and the Spurs
40:57starting as well in game two.
41:01It's just the third turnover for Philadelphia.
41:04Part of the reason they're up one.
41:13Brown sends Kata away.
41:15He's tangled with Maxie.
41:16Brown using the muscle to draw a foul.
41:20What is Maxie supposed to do?
41:22It's like he's just taking Maxie with him.
41:24Maxie is moving.
41:26But Jalen Brown is just dictating so much of it,
41:29getting to his spot and raising up.
41:32It's like you're going for a ride.
41:34Like the cans on the back of the just-married car, right?
41:47Brown is good.
41:48Seriously, what can Maxie do there?
41:50You've just got to try to heat him up and, you know, send him to your health.
41:56I mean, Jalen Brown is going to be first-team All-NBA.
42:00Like, he's played at that level all season long.
42:03Fourth in scoring, career highs in points, rebounds, assists.
42:08He's been just an incredible player this season.
42:11And as Tatum kind of incorporates himself back,
42:14it's been fun to see just how those guys have gelled and fit together and done it well.
42:20Jalen Brown said,
42:21it's an opportunity to show the world who I am and what I can do.
42:25He's done that.
42:29Oubre back on with a couple of fouls in his pocket.
42:32He'll pick his way.
42:34Turn around, and that is a wild shot.
42:37Saved to the end line by Edgecombe.
42:39Oubre finds himself open, and he misses the three.
42:42Shireman had popped out of his hand by Edgecombe.
42:45It's a steal for Tatum.
42:47He's got a free run!
42:49He's got Tatum!
43:00Maxey for the tie!
43:02It's a splashdown.
43:03That's a great answer right there from Maxey.
43:05But how about Tatum?
43:06That's the second time in this game where we've seen him make a play on the ball like that.
43:10And his performance in game one defensively so impressive as well,
43:15along with the offense.
43:16Oh, one of the first pivot from Jalen Brown.
43:19Wow, and just pin him down and let him go.
43:21That's size and physicality.
43:27Celtics have their hands full tonight.
43:30Maxey wanted to coil into it.
43:32He'll reload Drummond in the corner on Edgecombe.
43:34Yes!
43:35I love the read from Drummond.
43:37If they're going to deny and be tough with Maxey on the handoff, look across the floor.
43:42Skip it.
43:42DJ Edgecombe ready to let that thing go.
43:45Then he knocks it away.
43:46A 20-year-old Edgecombe going along at the top.
43:50He is a phenomenally instinctive defender.
43:58This looks like a surefire layup.
44:02Derek White, active hands, all ball, saves a bucket.
44:11Look, sometimes it's easy, though.
44:13You make shots, you feel a lot better.
44:15Philadelphia has made seven of its last game threes.
44:18Yeah, and they liked the shots they got in game one.
44:20They had some looks at the rim they let get away.
44:22Certainly looks from three that didn't go down, and it's been a different story.
44:26But their edge has been different tonight, too.
44:28They have played harder and tougher.
44:31It's going to be a foul on Brown for tripping Maxey.
44:38In the first quarter, Jason, it looked like Boston could throw a haymaker early,
44:44and Philly really responded.
44:49Philadelphia hasn't won a playoff series against Boston since the 80s,
44:54which is hard to believe.
44:55On the note that Julius Erving was playing.
44:58That's right.
44:59That's right.
44:59That's been a minute.
45:01There are certain numbers in the NBA playoffs.
45:04It's been that long, and it's hard to believe.
45:08It's also hard to believe Philadelphia hasn't been to an Eastern Conference final
45:11since Allen Iverson was in a uniform.
45:15Edgecombe's open.
45:16He lets it rock.
45:17And hits another.
45:18They got Sam Howser stunned to the ball.
45:20That is a long run from that nail.
45:23Edgecombe getting away.
45:24Good offense again.
45:25The pin down by Maxey.
45:27All that attention that frees up BJ Edgecombe for three.
45:31As quiet as it's been in here tonight, right now.
45:35And we got a foul against the Celtics away from the ball.
45:39It's on Keita.
45:42That's his first.
45:44See the calm of Nick Nurse.
45:46That was what struck me about our conversation before the game.
45:51It's his level of calm, and maybe it's because he knew that he has a rookie who took it all
45:56in
45:57and was going to attack it today.
46:12That's his level of calm, and he's going to attack it all in the middle of the floor.
46:19That is high-level, Ph.D. level stuff from Derek White.
46:26Timeout 76ers.
46:31Counterpunch from Philadelphia.
46:34Sixers lead by two.
46:40The NBA on NBC is brought to you by Kia, the official automotive partner of the NBA.
46:5123 series to rifle through between the Celtics and 76ers.
46:56Maria said it earlier.
46:57It is the most often played series in NBA history, all the way back to the Bill Russell-Casey-Jones
47:03era of 1966 for Boston.
47:06And this iteration, this version of Celtic Sixers looked like it might be very lopsided after game one.
47:13People in Philadelphia were writing about an early offseason, and the Sixers have taken it to heart.
47:17Well, they've played so much harder here, and the shots have gone in, which makes everything look different.
47:22But hopefully, Joel Embiid can get back for game three.
47:26Obviously, they don't have him tonight still dealing with the effects of that appendicitis, but he is ramping up the
47:32strength conditioning.
47:33And that's a great signing, great news for Philly fans, and they haven't ruled him out.
47:39And Embiid would certainly be a big help.
47:43Sixers by four.
47:48Brown measuring an offensive foul, he dipped the shoulder.
47:56Well, you asked what the counter is, and Jalen Brown there, he's trying to just grind you out.
48:01You do get a little bit of an extension there with that off-arm.
48:05The fans here at the Boston Garden are not going to like it, but that's what the official sees.
48:13He got called for the technical foul earlier, and here he argues that as Edgecombe draws front iron.
48:28Jason Tatum lost the ball for a moment, a little double clutch.
48:32That's short, Tatum trying to claw for the rebound.
48:35He's got it, away for Hauser.
48:37Fly by, no good.
48:40Offensive rebound again.
48:41It's Brown, he can't score.
48:44Bodies everywhere, and here come the Sixers.
48:49Maxey drops it, oh, Edgecombe on the gas pedal, man, is he explosive.
48:55Oh, a missed layup on one end leads to the runout, the carnage at the rim.
48:59Vijay Edgecombe looks like he is shot out of a cannon right there.
49:03He was running so hard.
49:05Oh, Brown, nifty, slow motion, two and a foul.
49:14Look at Vijay Edgecombe, he is going to make his way right there into your screen and turn on the
49:19afterburners.
49:20It's Philly with the runout, it's Boston with the half-court execution.
49:25If you're going to overplay Jalen Brown, he'll just cut it right back door and use that size and frame
49:30to finish at the rim.
49:33On Edgecombe, think if Buddy Heal didn't hold that camp when he was 13 in the Bahamas.
49:40I mean, you talk about paying it forward and watching basketball grow.
49:44Vijay Edgecombe is a beneficiary of that relationship.
49:47And look at how many NBA guys have gone back and played for the Bahamas national team.
49:53And for future generations, how important that is, and that's a great point.
49:57Edgecombe.
49:58Oh, he is absolutely feeling it.
50:01And he gave a look to the crowd on the way by.
50:03He's had such a clutch year, Jason, that it's not a surprise to see him bounce back from a tough
50:08game run.
50:10There's Jalen Brown.
50:13The Wiley's veteran.
50:14The tricks of the trade, right?
50:15You've got Dominic Barlow just playing in his second NBA playoff game.
50:20And Sam Hauser gets a little bit overaggressive there, helping on Maxey.
50:24You leave Edgecombe, and just like that, he's shooting that thing with a lot of confidence.
50:31He'd been struggling from three, Jason, but he's now three for five in this game.
50:36He's got 13 points in this quarter.
50:39What a bounce back from 0 for 5 from three in the opener in what was a very lively environment.
50:45Don't forget, just underway in San Antonio, Spurs and Blazers join Mike Tirico
50:50and company over on NBC as Danny Obdi had found his way to the rim, and there was somebody to
50:55meet him.
50:56Shockingly so.
50:59That Blazers team, though, acquitted itself pretty well in game number one.
51:05That's Brown at the free throw line.
51:12It's that.
51:13It's a three-point game.
51:16We saw game twos last night can flip on it.
51:19Yes, they can.
51:20Philly's dropped the right mentality here to get that done.
51:25CJ McCollum did it nearly himself last night.
51:28Oh, that's gonna be a bucket there.
51:30It's a big-time play by Maxey to keep his defender on his hip and set the table, drop it
51:34off.
51:35He talked about how many misses from the restricted area in game one.
51:39There's one.
51:41Tatum against Bowdoin.
51:43He wanted to step back.
51:45Seventy-two.
51:46Tatum drives there.
51:47The man didn't get the whistle.
51:54Oubre slicing into Watt.
