00:03This video was captured during the recent test launch of the Starship, SpaceX's latest and
00:09greatest rocket. It could one day carry up to 100 passengers to Mars. But this test flight
00:13wasn't all that convincing. Several of the rocket's boosters malfunctioned, and the rocket stages
00:18failed to separate, forcing the company to abort the launch. Now experts are attempting to quickly
00:23assess the extended damage done to surrounding areas by the launch. During the initial takeoff
00:28when it appeared successful, the Starship actually destroyed the launch pad it started on. This
00:32caused a cloud of ground-up concrete to be sent skyward, and it eventually fell on nearby
00:36towns. CNBC reported that cities as far away as six miles have reported bits of the spacecraft
00:42falling from above after the explosion as well, far from the 700-acre or one-square-mile debris
00:47field SpaceX told authorities could be expected. The aborted launch also ignited a fire near
00:52Boca Chica Beach, a wildlife refuge. Experts are now scrambling to assess the damage caused
00:58by the launch, hopefully helping them avert future disasters caused by private space companies.
