00:00We're back, ready for Britain's best amateur designers
00:04to transform tired interiors into jaw-dropping spaces,
00:08with a little help from our trusty trades.
00:12Phil, what are you doing with that saw?
00:15Go and find my staff.
00:20A great design starts with a strong foundation,
00:24but I can't help thinking we've forgotten something.
00:27Hi, Alan.
00:28Oh, that's it.
00:30Hi, Michelle.
00:31Right, let's find Britain's next interior design master.
00:38Ten brand-new interior designers.
00:43When people first see me, they're probably thinking tattoo artist.
00:46They're probably not expecting interior designer
00:48and a royalist as well.
00:49Are heading to Brighton.
00:51I'm a bit of a nomad, so I've lived all over the world,
00:54and I've always had this passion for interior design,
00:56and I feel like now it's my time to do it for real.
00:58I love storytelling.
00:59I love the experience that a space can give you,
01:02so I really want to bring that into the competition.
01:04It's inside.
01:04It's natural.
01:05It's there.
01:08They will transform a wild variety of commercial spaces.
01:12It's so magical.
01:14Whoa.
01:15Whoa.
01:16Woo-hoo.
01:16I've got this.
01:17I've got it.
01:18Oh!
01:19What?
01:21Hoping to impress interior's guru.
01:23I have never seen a beach art like this before.
01:26And former editor-in-chief of Elle Decoration,
01:29Michelle Agunderhin.
01:30This year, we have the most amazing mix of challenges.
01:34It's going to be hard work for our designers
01:36and a steep learning curve.
01:38But hey, what an incredible opportunity.
01:41Along with a celebrated guest judge.
01:43I love all the touches.
01:44I feel like I'm winning.
01:45They'll decide who deserves standout space.
01:48I love it.
01:49I think this is absolutely perfect.
01:51And who will leave the competition.
01:54I am stressing now.
01:57Yeah, there it goes.
01:58Brilliant.
01:59Help me!
02:01The winner will partner with Next
02:03to design and launch their very own homeware collection.
02:07Ah!
02:08On a scale of 1 to 10 of competitiveness,
02:1010 being high, I would say I'm 10.5.
02:13It's going to be great.
02:13It's going to be fantastic.
02:14Yeah.
02:15You've got to want it to get it.
02:16And that's exactly why I'm here.
02:18I want it and I want to get it.
02:19I'm vibrating.
02:22This means everything to me.
02:23I'm aiming to win.
02:25And become this year's...
02:29Interior Design Master.
02:32Two, four, six, eight.
02:34We like to decorate.
02:35Yes!
02:45I can't believe we're actually here.
02:48This year's budding designers have arrived at the Brighton Design Studio.
02:52Look at this.
02:54Look at this.
02:54Wow.
02:55That is amazing!
02:56This sofa is a bit of me.
02:58Making friends.
02:59I'm a dancer.
03:00Stop!
03:01Oh my God.
03:02Are you serious?
03:03I used to be.
03:03I trained professionally.
03:04Oh, amazing.
03:05I get the vibe.
03:06I'm an artist.
03:07Amazing.
03:07What do you do?
03:09Scorcher.
03:09A bit of football coaching.
03:12Football coaching.
03:14Wow.
03:14Before they go up against each other in their first challenge.
03:17Whoop!
03:19Whoop!
03:19They're clapping, Michelle.
03:21They're clapping.
03:22Give yourselves a clap.
03:23Come on.
03:25Welcome to Interior Design Masters.
03:27Whoop!
03:28Who's the royal enthusiast?
03:30That would be me.
03:31Oh!
03:33Which is your favourite royal?
03:34Oh, Queen Elizabeth, by far, easily.
03:36Well, if you love old queens, we're going to get on so well.
03:39Oh, absolutely, don't we?
03:41I understand we have some dancers.
03:43Just have a look and see if there's any jazz shoes or ballet pumps.
03:48No.
03:48Now, you do know this is Interior Design Masters and you're not auditioning for the royal variety.
03:53You know that?
03:54But you will be performing for a queen, the Queen of Interior's Michelle Agunderhin.
04:00Woo!
04:00Thank you very much.
04:01Finally, some respect.
04:03So, your first challenge.
04:05You better grab your bucket and spade and also a couple of paintbrushes because you're heading
04:10to the seaside.
04:11You're each going to have a beach hut you need to totally transform.
04:16Darling, hold my hand.
04:19The beach huts are situated on Dorset's Jurassic Coast with enviable views of the Isle of Wight.
04:25The huts are available for day trippers to rent, but it's no holiday for our designers
04:30as they'll be turning these basic wooden huts into stylish spaces.
04:33And that's not all.
04:35I would like you to introduce yourself to me by showing me your signature style.
04:41But remember the location and through all of the challenges, I would really like to see evidence
04:47that you've considered sustainability.
04:49You have been told.
04:53And joining Michelle on the beach will be the guru of glamorous whimsy, Jonathan Adler.
04:59Oh, my God.
05:01That's exciting, isn't it?
05:02Absolutely.
05:03That's fantastic.
05:03So, you've got two days and a budget of £1,100.
05:07So, grab that back to 50 and hit those huts.
05:11Good luck.
05:12Good luck.
05:13Oh, yeah.
05:18Come on.
05:19Come on.
05:19Come on.
05:20Come on.
05:20Come on.
05:21Come on.
05:21Come on.
05:22Look at it.
05:24So nice.
05:25Is that a dolphin out there?
05:26A dolphin?
05:27What?
05:27We're not in Australia now.
05:29Tiny beach huts like these have been brightening up the sandy shores of Avon Beach in Mudderford
05:34since the 1930s.
05:35Oh, wow.
05:36Right?
05:37This is cosy.
05:39Oh, my God.
05:40It's actually nearly the width of me, which is not very big.
05:46They're the perfect blank canvas for our designers to express their signature style.
05:50I can see my scheme.
05:51I can see it.
05:52That's daffo gonna go.
05:54They'll need to allow space for food prep, dining, changing and soaking up the sea views.
06:00Oh, that view's so beautiful.
06:01Look at that.
06:03Luckily, they're not sailing solo as each designer is partnered up with one carpenter and one decorator.
06:09Hi.
06:10It's lovely to meet you.
06:11Christian.
06:12Hi.
06:12How's it going?
06:14How are you?
06:14I'm better pursuing you.
06:16I apologise now about how much you've got to do.
06:19Yeah.
06:20It's a beach hat.
06:21It's a little small box.
06:22What could possibly go wrong?
06:22Yeah.
06:23We wanna see you shaking cocoa, man.
06:26Woo!
06:28So we've got like a little antique beach vibe going on from like the old tents that they used
06:33to have on the beach.
06:33I've got like a little few history pieces going there.
06:36We're also gonna try and get some royal stuff in here, British flags.
06:42My name is Ben.
06:44I am 28 and I'm from the West Midlands.
06:46My style is contemporary and Victorian.
06:49My bedroom definitely expresses my signature style.
06:53When my girlfriend first saw my bedroom, I think she was more horrified not knowing where
06:58to look because there is a lot of portraits in here.
07:01What I like about the royal family is just the pomp and all of the glamour and it's just
07:08wonderful.
07:09I don't want anyone to walk into a room and go, this is boring because that is my worst
07:13nightmare.
07:15I've got a couple of recycled planters and we're just pressing them together now just to
07:20make this ball shape.
07:21We're gonna run some lines down it after, just make that beach ball effect.
07:24And then we'll put a antique top on it and it's gonna be a cool little quirky coffee table
07:29by the end of it, hopefully.
07:32Ben's beach ball coffee table is one of several statement pieces in his hut, alongside a surfboard
07:39bench and a changing area created from a salvaged door.
07:42His colour palette is daring, with reds, yellows, greens and blues splashed across his furniture
07:48and most strikingly, his ceiling.
07:53Oh wow.
07:54This looks super, this does.
07:56It's a little bit different, hasn't it?
07:57Yeah, definitely.
07:58This looks great.
07:59These are the colours that I'm also using on the beach ball as well.
08:02They're popping.
08:04I'm very happy with those.
08:05So the theme is nostalgic adventure.
08:08And then mounted on this wall I've got this toy boat that's about this big.
08:12It's beautiful.
08:13Looks like every wall is a different colour.
08:16Yeah, you've got a lot of painting, sorry.
08:18My signature style is graphic colourful.
08:21I found it quite easy to bring my signature style in because I feel like beach huts are
08:25meant to be colourful.
08:29My name's Frankie.
08:30Despite my weird accent, I'm currently living in Brighton.
08:34After A levels, I moved to Australia and then since then I've been travelling and living
08:38out of a backpack or a van or both.
08:41I love the challenge of designing small spaces so I feel like that's really my niche.
08:46Caravans, teepees, vans, little fisherman's shack in Tasmania, that was fun.
08:52Give me a big space and I'm going to panic.
08:55Look at my yellow wall.
08:57It's so cute.
08:59Being at the beach, a small space, bright colours, it feels like this first challenge
09:04that was made for me.
09:05Wow.
09:06Look at that in the sunshine.
09:08Yes.
09:09Duran's also hoping to make a splash with her bold colours.
09:12It's so bright.
09:14I love it.
09:15My whole concept for this is to create a little jewel box effect.
09:19You could have romantic dinners here or you can bring the whole family.
09:22The ceiling is empire red and the walls and the archway are called sand haven and the
09:29back wall is in a powder blue.
09:31Just feel like those colours really complement each other.
09:33They kind of set each other off but they don't feel too overwhelming.
09:37I always say I have the too much gene which just means that I cannot stop doing creative things.
09:43I'm a professional dancer and a choreographer.
09:47As soon as I had the chance to design my own space I feel like I unlocked something within me
09:52that just made me so excited.
09:54My design style is modern romantic.
09:57Very neutral, very calming but with pops of colour and whimsy and things that you don't expect.
10:02I want to win!
10:04I mean you don't enter a competition to not want to win.
10:10The ceiling is very pink at the moment.
10:14I wanted to go for a bright rich red and it's looking fuchsia.
10:20So I'm hoping after a couple of coats it will look better.
10:26OK.
10:28Oh dear.
10:29So this is going to be the design.
10:321970 sailboat, big like Americana feel.
10:34We're going to have a surfboard that's going to go along the ceiling so when you walk into the space
10:38your eye line's going to get drawn down towards the big bonkett seat and at the back.
10:42Totally rad.
10:43And it just means that when you sat here all you're looking at is that perfect view outside.
10:48I mean look at that.
10:48That's a beautiful view.
10:50I'm Theo.
10:51My design style is retro modern.
10:53Three words I guess you could say is not overworked.
10:56I love interior design because it's a bit similar to my job as a graphic designer but it's a way
11:01that you can get things off of the screen and everything is completely tangible.
11:05Part of my job consists of designing artwork for musicians from Stormzy, Sam Fender to Kian Duckrock which I really
11:12really enjoy.
11:13To impress Michelle I want to create a lot of impact in a space but I also don't want to
11:18overdo it at the same time.
11:20Color wise we've gone for pure brilliant white which most people will hate but when the sun comes in it
11:27will have like a nice bit of reflection and it shouldn't make the white too white.
11:33These beach huts might be small.
11:35Already feeling spacious, seeing the vision, like it.
11:40But they've got many jobs to do as beach goers need somewhere to rest.
11:45It's really nice down here.
11:47Eat, change and stash their picnic essentials.
11:50Oh I love it.
11:54One designer who's making the most of every inch is Sophie from Staffordshire.
11:58This is my underfloor storage.
12:02My beach hut is basically a little rock and roll haven.
12:07I thought about putting in a false floor in the back half because it would feel more like a sunken
12:13conversation pit rather than everything just being on the same level.
12:16Quite different to a regular beach hut.
12:18A very cool space is what I'm aiming for.
12:22I think the 70s music taste that I have has definitely influenced my design style and I am obsessed with
12:31animal prints.
12:32More is more is more.
12:33I am a specialist painter.
12:35I did a zebra print ceiling for someone recently which was quite interesting.
12:39I helped my husband design his barbershop with a pirate theme.
12:43I love designing and to be able to do that full time would just be awesome.
12:51So I'm painting my zebra stripes onto the floor now.
12:55Prints in general are rock and roll especially animal prints.
12:58Who doesn't love a bit of zebra prints?
13:02Whilst most of the beach huts are swiftly changing.
13:05Oh amazing it's so great.
13:09Kate's is bare.
13:10Mind your head.
13:12Last thing I want to do is knock you out on the first day of the job.
13:15As she's chosen to painstakingly clad her walls and ceiling first.
13:21These planks were being ripped out a Georgian home.
13:24I love making something that looks a bit like this at the moment and making it look totally different.
13:29Because why would you throw these away?
13:32When I was told I was going to be on Interior Design Masters I think I cried.
13:37I can't say I weed a little bit, that would be a bit rude wouldn't it?
13:41My name is Kate and I am from Birmingham.
13:43I am an interior content creator.
13:45I think people would like to follow me for the hacks that I do.
13:48I love interior design because I think it shows off your personality but on your walls of your home.
13:54I spent so long bringing my kids up and now I just feel like it's my time.
13:59You know I'm in my forties and what's the best time to start a new career is now right isn't
14:03it?
14:05Stay put.
14:08Talking to the woods.
14:09Going crazy already.
14:11So my inspiration for the beach hut is I've got this picture of me and my sister and these little
14:16knitted yellow jumpers that my mum made.
14:18So the whole of the bottom of the beach hut is going to be yellow.
14:21I've got a beautiful marble top kitchen side going in.
14:24Lots of storage.
14:25But my concerns are the cladding because there's a lot to do.
14:29Not that time.
14:32Sounds like some of our designers need rescuing.
14:52I'll be ready.
14:54I'll be ready.
14:56Whenever you feel.
14:58Oh don't you feel.
15:00I'll be ready.
15:02I'm always here.
15:04Madam.
15:06There's a seagull.
15:06It's going to swoop down and steal your chips.
15:09I'll save them.
15:10I'm always here.
15:12Works every time.
15:14Now where were those designers?
15:23Hi Duran.
15:24Hello.
15:25You've done a partition.
15:27I have.
15:28Not just one space but get to come over here.
15:31Yeah.
15:31Get changed.
15:32Prep your food.
15:33And this is the chill zone.
15:35Oh.
15:35Chill zone.
15:36Yeah.
15:37Do you want to have a go?
15:38Tell me about you.
15:40I do a street dance style called shway.
15:43Shway.
15:44Shway.
15:45Shway.
15:45Yeah.
15:46Yeah.
15:46Do you want me to teach you some moves?
15:47Yeah.
15:48Go on.
15:48Take me some shway.
15:49So you're going to do a loose booty.
15:51Loose booty.
15:51So your hips are going to go round.
15:53And hit.
15:54And then with the hands.
15:56Yeah.
15:56You're going to go one, two.
15:59One.
16:00Two.
16:00Yeah.
16:01Are you sure this is shway?
16:03That's...
16:05You're doing it better than me.
16:06Really?
16:07Yeah, yeah, yeah.
16:08Was you impressed?
16:09I was pretty impressed.
16:10So tell us where else is going.
16:11So that's red.
16:12I love the contrast to that.
16:14That's nice.
16:15We're going to do the same red outlining the blue.
16:18Yeah, yeah.
16:19So when you stand out at the front and you're looking in, it looks like a picture.
16:23It does, doesn't it?
16:24No, Alan, this way.
16:25You've got to look this way.
16:26Oh, sorry.
16:27No, that does look like a picture.
16:29Sorry, I was looking the wrong shway.
16:33Stop!
16:36Like Duran's partition wall, the other beach huts are also getting a changing area.
16:41That's why Piers is going to get changed.
16:45Hello.
16:47Hello.
16:49You actually spared me.
16:51Are you okay?
16:52How are you doing?
16:53How are you doing?
16:53What is this?
16:54This is going to be my changing room.
16:56That is such a clever idea.
16:58Yeah.
16:58I've got to be kind of like an homage to the 1950s when sites like this used to be really
17:03popular.
17:04Yeah.
17:05I better change it to another scary outfit.
17:06Yeah, go change.
17:07Quick change.
17:10Growing up in South London really felt like an idyllic childhood.
17:14Me and my partner are now happily living here in my family home.
17:18I've redesigned every room, but there are still some homages to those spaces.
17:23So our Chesterfield sofas was something that was really aspirational for my parents.
17:28I couldn't bear to get rid of it.
17:29So they sit prior to place in our living room.
17:32I would describe my design style as modern nostalgia.
17:35I would be lying if I said I haven't daydreamed hearing Michelle say in my name that I'm the
17:38winner of Tour Design Masters 2026.
17:43Ajit's signature earthy tones from his home are reflected in his beach hut.
17:48As well as partitioning off the changing area, he's left room for a generous and moveable
17:53dining and seating build and styling with bamboo and the tan accessories.
17:57He's creating a calm and natural feel to his 50s beach hut.
18:02And he's also adding a clever touch so the sea view can be enjoyed from every angle.
18:08These are looking great.
18:09I think my favourite piece has to be the set of mirrors that are on my partition wall.
18:15I didn't want to sacrifice the amazing view that you can see here, no matter what direction you're looking out
18:20in.
18:21When it comes to mirrors.
18:23Here we go, the last piece.
18:25Johnny's on the same wavelength.
18:27She's on, she's in place, and she's ready to go.
18:33For my beach hut design, I've gone for a mid-century Miami Beach Club.
18:38But I think my big statement is my roof.
18:40I've got some striped fabric draped from the ceiling and that is to create and mimic the sort of effect
18:46of a deck chair
18:46and also create a kind of, like I said, a cabana sort of feeling.
18:50Five, six, seven, eight, one, two, three, five.
18:53I'm a manager at a performing arts school for children.
18:57My signature style is mid-century with a bit of a twist.
19:01I like a bold statement, a pattern.
19:04So I live here with my husband.
19:06We bought this flat together in 2020.
19:08I loved being able to come in and really just hit it with a load of colour, pattern, whatever.
19:15I want to pursue a career in interior design and that is for sure.
19:19So changing screen is what I wanted to chat about.
19:21I was thinking maybe if we line it up with this here.
19:25The plan is that you can hide yourself, get changed.
19:31Happy with that?
19:32Nice result out.
19:33It's nice, yeah.
19:36While some designers have made a smart choice with quick and simple changing areas, Kate is still cladding.
19:43Feeling alright with your painting?
19:45Yeah, we still haven't cladded one more.
19:47Just keep going.
19:48I know, keep going.
19:49Keep going.
19:50Keep going.
19:50Thank you, you've motivated me.
19:52You're good.
19:53And now diving into another ambitious project.
19:56This is going to be like a door that pulls out like this.
20:00Could you stand in there?
20:02Because you've got to get changed in there.
20:04I'll go this side.
20:05Just hold it down there.
20:08I love showing a hack.
20:10If I see something that I really like in a magazine or online that's really expensive,
20:14I'll go, oh, let's try and recreate it just using what I've got.
20:19And then you pull that around like that.
20:21Can you see?
20:22Can you see?
20:22You're getting changed.
20:24Swit swoo!
20:28It's halfway through day one.
20:30Help me!
20:32And the designers are tackling their kitchen areas.
20:34Are you getting rid of your cabinet?
20:36Yeah.
20:37Could I have it?
20:38No, that's fine.
20:39No, this is perfect.
20:40So, Ben, not a problem?
20:41When it comes to her kitchen, artist Emily isn't letting anything go to waste.
20:46Perfect.
20:47My way of working is quite unconventional.
20:49We want to make sure that we're using every bit that we can.
20:52You can give me a bin bag of stuff and I'll turn it into something.
20:57I'm Emily.
20:58I'm an artist and a football coach based in London.
21:01My design style is modern, contemporary, which I guess just means, you know, modern and contemporary.
21:07No, I don't know what.
21:09Block colours, strong lines and a contemporary use of materials.
21:13I make a range of things, all specialising in using paper mache.
21:19I've made a paper mache bed, football shirts, lamps, stools, the shirt's long.
21:25I love it.
21:26Going into the competition is really terrifying.
21:28I've just got to, you know, breathe.
21:33We'll get it all varnished so it's like glossy and reflecting the view and stuff.
21:37My kitchenette is at the back, but I've moved it to the front to add a bit of a partition.
21:43We've got to look at that view if you're making like a salad or something like that.
21:49Emily's kitchen island will be placed across the doorway of a beach hut, which will be painted in coastal tones,
21:55like terracotta and sea blues.
21:58Her bonkette seating will be tucked at the back of a beach hut and she'll show off her artistic skills
22:04with handcrafted paper mache mirrors.
22:06Tables and lamps and her kitchen island will be topped with a mosaic made of smashed slate.
22:12One, two, three.
22:15Oh.
22:17OK.
22:17That was quite easy.
22:19Yeah.
22:19So what's the inspiration for all these tiles being smashed?
22:23Because I'm reflecting a lot of the sea, I wanted to incorporate a few of the rocks and the stones
22:28and the natural organic elements of the beach.
22:30Oh, this is quite deep, Emily.
22:32I think it's going to be really beautiful.
22:34Let's see how it turns out.
22:35And also, you're like me.
22:37You've got a footballing link.
22:38I do have a footballing link.
22:40Because, you know, my dad's a football manager.
22:41Yeah, I do know this and he used to work for Tottenham Hotsford, which I work for.
22:45Yes.
22:45You work for Tottenham Hotsford?
22:46Yeah, yeah, yeah.
22:46I was at Tottenham the other day.
22:48What's she for Beyonce?
22:49Yeah.
22:51I don't go for the football.
22:53Boring.
22:58Down at the storage hut.
23:00Oh, God, this is going to be hot.
23:04Sophie's having a barrel of fun.
23:08Oh, my God.
23:09I've got to get it all the way up there.
23:12The barrel is a repurposed piece.
23:14It's been judged up a little bit.
23:16And we've got a hole in the side of it because it is going to be a sink.
23:20It wasn't cheap.
23:22But it's my main reference to the area because it's a hint towards all the smuggling history of the town.
23:28Arr!
23:30Oh, my God, it looks so nice.
23:32Yeah?
23:33Yeah.
23:33Oh, I'm really happy with that.
23:35Leah's kitchen design is taking her beach hut further afield.
23:38On the back wall, we've got this gorgeous peel-and-stick wallpaper, which has a kind of Mediterranean Amalfi field.
23:45When we got this brief, I instantly took a picture of me and my nonna in her hometown in Italy.
23:52I just wanted to make something that she would be proud of and want to set in.
23:57I grew up in a very typical Scottish-Italian family.
24:02We had a family chip shop where I worked.
24:05That was chaos.
24:07My design style is botanical maximalist.
24:11So I use loads of dry flowers in my designs.
24:14They just kind of add a bit of a wow factor.
24:16I have just quit my job of nine years in retail to now pursue a job in interior design.
24:22So there would be nothing more than winning and becoming an actual interior designer.
24:29Full stop.
24:30End of question.
24:33So I'm just wood-staining some old scaffolding boards I got for free from a local theatre.
24:40People pay a lot of money for shelves to look like this, and it's super easy to do yourself.
24:44And it should tie in really nicely like a really old-school Italian kitchen.
24:52Leah's up-cycled shelving will sit at the back of her Amalfi-inspired kachina
24:56with zesty lemon wallpaper, a sunny blue and yellow palette,
25:00and a ceiling covered in foliage, dried flowers, and fairy lights.
25:05Just like her nonna's kitchen, it's a space for sharing.
25:09Complete with bonkette seating and a vintage walnut sideboard
25:13squeezed under the shelving for preparing summer family feasts.
25:18Look at that.
25:20Yay!
25:21Look at that.
25:23Unreal.
25:24Absolutely perfect.
25:25Make the measure.
25:26Thank you so much.
25:29While most of the designers are breathing new life into second-hand furniture...
25:33This kitchen unit is going to be like a bit of a Frankenstein.
25:37From that table top, these legs, this bottom, and the top shelves.
25:42Tao's gone for brand new.
25:44That's good.
25:45Yeah, it's come out all right, yeah?
25:46Yeah.
25:47They're like garden storage.
25:48Might be a little bit controversial going for new or shop-bought,
25:52but if you buy things that are old, they tend to break quite easily.
25:56Catch, Ben!
25:57Oh!
25:57Oh, God!
25:58Oh, you had to catch!
26:00Keep me awake, why don't you?
26:02What's this?
26:03So this is going to be my coffee table stands.
26:06They're going to sit under that table there for me.
26:09Oh, wonderful!
26:11Oh, look, why are you wearing the Queen's Jubilee T-shirt?
26:14She'd be absolutely devastated with me, wouldn't you?
26:16Poor Queen!
26:18I mean, I've got to keep her with me at all times.
26:20Is there a royal you don't like?
26:21Henry VIII, he was a bit of a so-and-so.
26:24No, no.
26:24He really went down in my books when he started cutting their heads off.
26:27I mean, yeah, absolutely.
26:29Well, I'm going to take me ball back.
26:30Absolutely.
26:30Good luck, Ben.
26:31See you in a bit.
26:32Bye, love.
26:33Bye.
26:34Ben loves the royals,
26:35but will his Victoriana-inspired beach hut reign supreme,
26:39or will it cause Michelle to say,
26:41one is not a muse?
26:53Yeah, I'm happy with that.
26:54That's awesome.
26:55Do you want a cup of tea?
26:55Yeah, come on.
26:56Come on.
26:57As the first day sails off into the distance...
27:01Buona notti tutti.
27:02..the designer's signature styles are unfurling.
27:05Today's been pretty productive, I would say.
27:07I think we're on good track for tomorrow, really, aren't we?
27:09Yeah, really happy.
27:10Yeah, good.
27:11Looks good.
27:11I was definitely pulling in, kind of, the things I wanted to do,
27:14with, like, the retro and modern,
27:15while also having, like, the new kitchen unit.
27:17I've tried not to look at anyone else's,
27:19because I think that'll make me panic.
27:20I do feel a little bit behind.
27:22just complications with using Reclaim, like, getting them on the walls.
27:26But I'm sure we can catch up tomorrow.
27:29Well, I'm trying to be as positive as I can be.
27:39Right, day two, guys!
27:44Doggo!
27:45Morning!
27:47The designers have just 12 hours left to beautify their beach huts.
27:51We've made some good progress on day one, haven't we?
27:52We have, we have.
27:53Still plenty to do, though.
27:55Still quite a bit to do.
27:55Keep that positivity.
27:58And seating is top of the list.
28:00A little conversation pit is going to appear here, hopefully.
28:04Bonkette seating is going to go from this side all the way down.
28:10Current vibes.
28:13So I guess the main event is the day bed at the back,
28:15which is a little kid's bunk bed.
28:17I think old things have a soul,
28:19and I think you can feel that.
28:20Feels really lovely, like a hug.
28:23We knew it was going to be a tight bed.
28:25This is going to be fine.
28:26It fits.
28:27It has to fit.
28:29Beach hut seating has to do more than just look good.
28:32Got a back piece that's going to go in there,
28:34so we can screw the surfboard in from the back.
28:36OK.
28:37It can double up as storage.
28:38It's big enough to fit a human,
28:40so we'll call it the coffin.
28:42Nearly all the designers have gone for custom seating
28:45for the perfect fit.
28:47We've got this dining table that's on wheels,
28:49and then sliding underneath is a seat for two
28:51with under-seat storage.
28:53The boys did some magic,
28:55and they fitted the bed in the space,
28:57which is amazing,
28:58because I was just starting to freak out a little bit,
29:01but we're good.
29:02Ben's giving an old surfboard a second life.
29:05So we're going to try and go for a bit more of an artistic look.
29:08Cool paint strokes all across the surfboard.
29:11My main piece for this beach hut
29:13is going to be an old pew,
29:16twisted with a surfboard as a backrest.
29:18Oh, wow, that's heavy.
29:20That's definitely cool.
29:22I mean, a surfboard bench,
29:23I would have absolutely loved as a kid.
29:25I'd be like,
29:25wow, look at this.
29:26This is amazing.
29:29So...
29:29There you go.
29:31Oh, lovely.
29:32Look at that.
29:32Oh, that's all right.
29:33Gorgeous.
29:34Over at Teo's.
29:36Is it in?
29:36We're working on it.
29:37There's a much simpler plan for his surfboard.
29:40I like that.
29:40Are you sure this is safe?
29:41Yeah, yeah.
29:42It's all good.
29:43You don't want to kill Michelle Agunderhin,
29:44you might not get through to the next round.
29:46Oh, it'll be fine, it'll be fine.
29:48All right, I think.
29:49No, no, no, Teo, you can't, love.
29:52That's perfect.
29:54Are you sure?
29:55Yeah.
29:56Finally got some nautical things coming into the room now.
30:00Nice, yeah, lovely.
30:01Have you, don't take this the wrong way,
30:03but have you done interior design before?
30:05I painted my house.
30:06Oh, yeah, what colour?
30:07White.
30:09Good for you.
30:10I'm proud of you.
30:12And Teo's not the only one making a statement ceiling.
30:16I'm going to cover the ceiling with this
30:18to give that real Italian feel of eating under the lemon tree.
30:23When I went to the flower market last week,
30:25I saw these, like, really gorgeous flowers
30:27which actually resemble real lemons.
30:30So it will look like an authentic lemon tree.
30:33Hello.
30:34Oh, hi, Alan.
30:36Tell me about everything.
30:37What is this?
30:38Why are you putting it up there?
30:40I thought that I would try and mimic the deck chair swag.
30:43I wondered if you could help me actually
30:44try and get this up onto the ceiling.
30:45God, okay, well, listen, I'll try my bit.
30:47Do you want a hand over, you all right?
30:47Oh, you are sweet, thank you.
30:49Very good, right.
30:50So what we need you to do is,
30:51I need you to hold this out of here.
30:52Okay, right.
30:53Will you stay there for two seconds then?
30:54You're actually doing a brilliant job.
30:55Let me start with that one here.
30:57Okay.
30:59Sorry.
31:00Okay.
31:00Here we go.
31:01That happens one more time.
31:02I'm ripping it down.
31:05It's halfway through day two.
31:08The walls are done but I'm still a bit concerned
31:10because I've got nothing in there yet.
31:12but I think it's all just going to come together.
31:14For most, the Beach Hut basics are in place.
31:17Look at that!
31:18So it was just a wood bowl
31:20and we've cut a little hole in it
31:22and now it's a sink.
31:23So next, it's all about stamping on their signature style.
31:27Wherever you see the blue,
31:29I will be outlining that with this lovely red
31:32that matches the ceiling.
31:33I love using symmetry
31:35but then I like to offset that
31:36with something that's asymmetrical
31:37and a little bit more abstract, a little raw.
31:40Ah!
31:42It's coming together.
31:44Right, let's go.
31:45Just like a true artist...
31:47Ow!
31:48...Emily is prepared to suffer for her craft.
31:50It is best to be the best paper mache things I've ever made.
31:55I am hitting the sustainability brief
31:57because I'm literally using the water that's here
32:00rather than from a tap and stuff.
32:02So let's see.
32:03I mean, it might not work
32:04but it's water, isn't it, at the end of the day?
32:06I'm paper mache-ing a coffee table, hangers,
32:09lighting, some of the table tops and seating.
32:13I mean, I'm paper mache-ing quite a lot.
32:15I need to get this done.
32:17I need to ride in time.
32:20All of the designers have been encouraged
32:22to honour the seaside setting,
32:24so they're off to the beach to pick treasures to transform.
32:27What are you looking for then?
32:29A big bit of furniture would be fantastic.
32:32Oh, my God, these are...
32:35Yes.
32:36..so great.
32:37I was going to do, like, a fake menu,
32:39but actually this already has the lines,
32:42so it might be really easy to draw on it.
32:44The designers are free to help themselves
32:46to whatever the tide might wash in.
32:48Oh!
32:49Like this!
32:50Yes!
32:51That is it.
32:52That's the one.
32:53As they dip into a stash of beach booty.
32:56Yes.
32:58Go on.
32:59Oh, probably flushing them off.
33:01There's so many wine bottles.
33:03Someone had a good night.
33:04No!
33:06Are you doing anything?
33:07Yes!
33:08Oh, please!
33:09Right, right there.
33:10What's that over there?
33:11Keep going.
33:12No!
33:13No!
33:14Winners!
33:14Yeah, we won, mate.
33:16I've got a good haul here.
33:18Feel the weight of this.
33:19I've got my giant rope.
33:22I mean, what are you going to use that for?
33:24I'm very curious.
33:25Did you get what you wanted?
33:26Oh, I just wanted a piece of wood.
33:28Just one piece?
33:29Yep.
33:30Got a lot I came for.
33:30Line of central needs.
33:32Yes.
33:33With their choices made,
33:34it's time to turn trash into treasure.
33:42Hi, Kate.
33:43Hello.
33:44What's this?
33:45Tell me everything.
33:46My kids like to play like drafts or chess.
33:48They can have a little game,
33:50but then also, like me,
33:51I like a little fizz on the beach,
33:54so you can have it as a little drinks tray as well.
33:56So you've decorated it with this?
33:58Basically, I've been trying to find loads of shells.
34:00I've got a whole bag.
34:01Oh, my God, look at this.
34:03I'm surprised there's no shells left on the beach.
34:04I know.
34:06I did get a bit carried away.
34:08So what do your kids think about being in the competition?
34:10Well, my youngest is excited.
34:12Billy's a little bit like,
34:14Mum, try not to be yourself too much.
34:16Don't your kids think you're cool?
34:17You're like this star on social media?
34:20No, definitely not.
34:22Well, wait till they see this.
34:23I'm not sure we can play drafts with that many shells though, can you?
34:26No, no, but I think that's beautiful.
34:27Get your glue gun out.
34:29Stick them up.
34:30You've got a piece of art.
34:31Made by Alan.
34:31Made by Alan.
34:32There you go.
34:34See you about.
34:34See you later.
34:37Let's take a few of them off now.
34:40I've not moved.
34:43Excuse me.
34:45I think you'll find they go back there.
34:48Sorry.
34:50Charming.
34:52Whoops.
34:57From shells to nets and wood, the designers are transforming their beach-combed bounty into works of art.
35:05Beautiful.
35:06Look at this.
35:08Man with the muscles.
35:09You could be a sailor soon here, Piers.
35:14With the rope, it's quite weighty and it's quite chunky.
35:17I'm thinking it might make a very sturdy base if we can tie it into a nice knot.
35:22There you go.
35:24There's a...
35:26And we've got a nice new brolly stand.
35:30Not long to go, I think.
35:37At the moment, it's looking very minimal.
35:40It's a very minimal look.
35:42And whilst it's all hands on deck for most...
35:45I've been blessed by the paper mache gods with this drying tie, honestly.
35:49Because this was the only thing that is out of my control.
35:52It's like drying.
35:54Frankie is coasting to the finish line.
35:56Oh my God, I think I'm going to cry.
35:58It looks so cute.
36:00Look at it!
36:02It is from the Royal Leamington Yacht Club, which is just down the road.
36:06I found it in a charity shop and it was 120 quid.
36:09That looks so good.
36:11And we're done now?
36:12Yeah, we're done.
36:13Yeah!
36:15Double high five.
36:16We're finished.
36:17Well done.
36:17I'll get you guys a drink.
36:20One hour to go!
36:23Should we get the kitchen unit over here?
36:24I found this absolutely stunning second hand wooden kitchen unit with a marble top.
36:30It's just going to be perfect for the space.
36:33We're trying to get some nice old pieces in here.
36:35I didn't want these brand new looking things.
36:37It's just going to have a bit more depth and a bit more character.
36:39I am stressing now.
36:42Other people have got way more vintage stuff than me.
36:45I hope I've got enough.
36:47Come and get me juicy cockles.
36:49Who wants a cockle?
36:50Full of protein.
36:51Omega three, four, five and six.
36:55Emily!
36:56I'll leave them there, yeah?
36:57Bon appetit.
37:02I found them in a bin.
37:03Do you want a cockle?
37:05No way.
37:11Don't tell them.
37:12Oh, God.
37:13Who wants a cockle fresh off the pavement?
37:16They're fresh.
37:18Actually, that's quite nice.
37:19I love someone who enjoys my cockles.
37:22Actually, the aftertaste is a bit funny.
37:25I've heard that before.
37:30We are officially going into the finishing touches stage, which is...
37:43Cheers.
37:45Let there be light.
37:50Perfect.
37:51That's what you need.
38:00Hello?
38:00Who's that?
38:02Michelle?
38:03Michelle!
38:07Right, let's do my outdoor area.
38:09Very rock and roll.
38:11A nice camping table, fold-out table with stools.
38:14Really simple.
38:15Very comfortable.
38:17Doesn't look it, but it is.
38:18I'm just going to try and make it as colourful and whimsical as I can.
38:33We're done.
38:34We did it.
38:34We did it.
38:35We smashed it.
38:35We are so done.
38:37Well done.
38:37Well done.
38:37Yay!
38:38Thank you!
38:39Well done.
38:41Well done.
38:42Yes!
38:43Team Duran.
38:44Yes!
38:45First makeover done.
38:47Hopefully not the last.
38:57Michelle and world famous designer Jonathan Adler have arrived on Avon Beach.
39:02With his bold, playful and luxurious style, Jonathan is the perfect person to judge the beach huts.
39:08Do you have anything like this?
39:10Do you have anything like this in America?
39:11You know, we really don't.
39:12Like, these are so British.
39:15One of the things that's really important to me in any design is that it is of the location.
39:21And then, of course, being sustainable as well is a chance to be really resourceful.
39:24It's showing me how they can be clever without just shopping.
39:28Ultimately, the key to success as a designer is being able to deliver great design that also communicates your personality.
39:35And so I hope that their personality comes through in beautifully designed, perfectly functional beach huts today.
39:47I have definitely fulfilled my design vision.
39:50None of it feels new.
39:51It feels like it's always been like that.
39:53So I think I nailed that part of it.
39:56Yeah.
39:57Yeah.
39:58Frankie's Beach, huh?
39:59It's so graphic and sharp.
40:01I love it.
40:04Oh.
40:05Cozy.
40:05It's nice to have a squishy seat.
40:08Yeah.
40:08And, I mean, let's just talk about the boat.
40:10Like, this is perfectly framed.
40:13That's a good find.
40:14This is a great backdrop for selfies.
40:17That's right.
40:18That's right.
40:18That's right.
40:19That's right.
40:20I really love your tiger life.
40:22My signature style has definitely come through.
40:24My mission to make beach huts cool, I think, has been successful.
40:28Positive vibes.
40:32Okay.
40:32Not giving me beach vibes.
40:34Not really, is it?
40:36I think she's done some really interesting architectural choices like this platform architecture and enables her to create the conversation
40:43pit, which I totally get.
40:45I do think it's really clever that we can lift this up and you've got the hidden storage underneath.
40:49I love that.
40:50The barrel sink is brilliant.
40:53Isn't that what you want?
40:57It's just very clever and a great use of space.
41:00Because Sophie's a specialist painter, I guess that's where we're seeing her signature style.
41:04So, she's hand painted the floor.
41:06I like that that's a subtle nod to what she does, but she hasn't tried to hammer it too much
41:10in our faces.
41:16My big intentions was to make it feel bigger and spacious, multifunctional.
41:23The only things I'd like to change is adding a few more bougier items.
41:28But really, when you come for a day at the beach, does that really matter?
41:32Ah.
41:33Hmm.
41:34So, this is Kate's beach hut.
41:36This is a very bright and jolly start.
41:39It is.
41:39I want to see what's inside.
41:40Okay.
41:43Gosh, I have to say, Jonathan, I feel like this is completely designed by a different person.
41:48Totally different mood.
41:50I think one of the niftiest things about beach huts is their rustic architecture, but she's covered it up with
41:55the siding that closes in the space.
41:57What's this?
41:58Yes, I'm intrigued.
41:59There's like a hook here.
42:00Oh.
42:02So, am I somehow getting changed behind here?
42:05Oh, Michelle.
42:06Can you see me?
42:07Oh, that's a lot of work for just a cupboard.
42:10Oh.
42:12This is a cool thing to do with a tray.
42:14Like, she turned a tray into a drafts board.
42:17So, that's a neat little trick.
42:19Yes.
42:19I have a hunch that she just was too focused on this shell.
42:23At the expense of all the little bits and bobs that could soften it and warm it up.
42:33It really is about building an experience and I hope that I've brought that to my hut.
42:39Having done this first challenge, I really am itching to stretch my legs even further and do more.
42:45Wow.
42:46Yeah.
42:46So, this is Ajit's hut.
42:48I'm loving the woody, neutral vibe.
42:52Let's see what's inside.
42:54This is kind of weird when you walk in thinking, why is there this huge table here?
42:59But this can push over me and then your chair can shunt underneath it.
43:04I like the little changing room.
43:06I'm going to go change.
43:07You can just switch into your bavers.
43:08I can see your bits there.
43:11I think I could duck back here and you wouldn't see me bits.
43:13Oh, yeah.
43:14That's actually pretty impressive.
43:15That's a big chunk of space and yet it does not feel cramped here.
43:21No, it really doesn't.
43:22Maybe it's the mirror there that's going to reflect the look back to me.
43:25I feel comfortable here.
43:27I feel comfortable and relaxed.
43:35I'm most proud of The Archway because that's got my mural on it.
43:40It's really the statement piece.
43:41It's the heart of the heart.
43:42It's like a little house.
43:44I don't want to leave it now.
43:45I'm just going to move in.
43:48Ah.
43:49Yeah.
43:49So this is Duran's space.
43:52Oh, I just really feel like drawn to go inside here.
43:55Let's do it.
43:58Oh, I love this.
44:02We've divided the space, but really generously.
44:05Like there's a lot of space back here.
44:07Just like a TARDIS hut.
44:09This is kind of what the eye rests on and it's bold and it's confident and it's unexpected.
44:15Duran knows when to be loud and when to be quiet.
44:19Let your heroes be heroic.
44:21Oh, I love that.
44:22Like a heroic squiggle.
44:28It's exactly what I wanted it to be.
44:29I think I'm most proud of the ceiling because of the statement it creates.
44:33In my opinion, I feel like I smashed the breeze.
44:38Hopefully Michelle feels the same.
44:40So this is Johnny's hut.
44:42That's a lovely, sweet little table setting, isn't it?
44:45I love the red stripes.
44:46I suspect a preview of what's to come.
44:48Let's go see.
44:50Oh, I find myself exhaling when I came in here.
44:56Yeah.
44:57It is very clean and spare.
44:59This simple tented ceiling is perfect.
45:02Yeah.
45:03And then these mirrored tiles, that kind of like dappled thing makes them look very expensive.
45:08Yeah, and it's not as obvious as just mirroring it, but it just gives that very nice dappled, kind of
45:15sea kind of feel.
45:16Sunshine came softly here through my window today.
45:22I think I've definitely demonstrated my signature style in this first brief.
45:25It was a conscious decision to keep it more minimal and not overcrowd it.
45:29So that's the only thing I'm a little bit concerned about.
45:32Oh, and I love the minty green colour, but it's a set of four camping stools and a foldaway table.
45:38It's very much like click, click, bought, done.
45:41Let's see if it's click, click by inside.
45:48I feel this is a lot less cosy.
45:51Honestly, it's just very masculine.
45:53And I think it could use some like femininity and some floof.
45:57I think one of the reasons that this space feels possibly a little cold is because everything's new.
46:02It's just not the vibe of the space.
46:04There's some nice little touches like the oar to use for the hanging rail.
46:09But I don't really get why he's hung the surfboard from the ceiling.
46:12I don't really know what its function is. I just hope it doesn't fall on me head.
46:21I think as soon as Michelle looks at it, I think she's going to know exactly what my style is.
46:26I'm super happy with the surfboard bench. I think that's come up brilliantly.
46:30I think the queen would absolutely love it.
46:34Oh, isn't that clever? Using the bit of old rope as the parasol holder.
46:39Nice little entrée.
46:43Oh, super nice feel.
46:45Wow.
46:46I love that Ben has given me a dividing wall. He's really created a separate zone here.
46:51So this space can either be full kitchen or I can be changing room.
46:55That door is fantastic.
46:57And I love how Ben has taken this old pew and used a surfboard as the back.
47:02It shouldn't work, but it does.
47:04Yeah.
47:05His coffee table painted beach balls is so cute.
47:08Ben has shown me how you can do sustainability without it being too arduous or kind of worthy.
47:14It makes me smile. I am totally into it.
47:21It's an okay amount of paper mache, but for me, because I love it so much, I would have covered
47:25the outside and the inside in it and the floor if given half the opportunity.
47:30It's a unique space. There's nothing like it, but is it a good unique or a bad unique? Who knows?
47:37So this is Emily's hut. She's an artist who loves to work in paper mache. Can you tell?
47:43No, why would you say that? Yes.
47:47Huh.
47:48Oh, and a different layout.
47:51There is something odd about it, though. If I go all the way back here, I feel very, very separated
47:57from what's going on there from the view.
48:00That is true.
48:01I mean, honestly, the paper mache theme goes on and on. It's around the mirrors. It's around this cutlery part.
48:06It's everywhere.
48:08It looks like a strong focus on making really cool objects. Like, I love the paper mache hangers, but it
48:14doesn't feel like she really focused
48:15on a strong sense of architecture. So I find her just different, which is cool.
48:20I have never seen a beach hut like this before. And that is not necessarily a bad thing.
48:30I think the ceiling I am most proud of. It's like fun. It's bright. It's bold. I really hope Jonathan
48:36and Michelle feel transported to Italy, but also still feel like they are at the beach.
48:42I think when I would be super proud. Yeah. I wish you could see it.
48:46Oh, this is a little burst of a mouthy sunshine, isn't it?
48:50Yeah.
48:51Feels really jolly and upbeat.
48:53Yeah. This is a vibe. Like, look at the ceiling.
48:56I mean, I'm not a fan of the fake plastic leaves, but I do like how she's interwoven the other
49:01branches. And so she's just taken it another level.
49:04And it works.
49:06This whole setup on the back wall with the wallpaper that's echoing the tiles on the floor, that's all really
49:13cute.
49:13It definitely gives a sense of a mouthy coast place. Does it give an English sense of place?
49:19No, I'm definitely transported somewhere else. But because that's somewhere that is so redolent of heat and sunshine and joy,
49:25I'm kind of okay with that.
49:27Yeah, I'm always up for an Amalfi Coast moment.
49:31While Michelle and Jonathan head off to make their decision.
49:34I'm a massive fan of an arch. That is epic. Turan's a bit of a dark horse, I feel.
49:39It's time for the designers to check out the competition.
49:42I do think it's a bold choice to put a partition wall into a space that's small, but you can
49:48go back there without feeling conscious that somebody may see you or something.
49:52I would never, ever have thought of doing something like this.
49:55Oh, this is so holy!
49:58Oh, Frankie!
49:59That bed is looking so cosy.
50:00It does, doesn't it? You could stay here overnight.
50:02No, I might.
50:04Carrick shop.
50:05Tao's obviously got his surfboard hanging up on the ceiling. Maybe mine's a bit more handy than Tao's.
50:11Ooh.
50:11Oh, wow.
50:13You've seen that in surfboard.
50:14That is genius.
50:15It's a good idea.
50:17I'm a little bit nervous. I feel like I might not have got as much stuff as I should have
50:21had.
50:21Mine's kind of like function, function, function.
50:24Well, mine feels very, like, empty.
50:27The ceiling, look at the ceiling!
50:29This is Leah down to a T. Like, I'm in Italy.
50:32Yeah, that's exactly the vibe.
50:34I'm getting the Italian vibe. Yeah.
50:34Feels like a real, like, Italian kitchen.
50:36Yeah, it does, doesn't it?
50:37Cheers!
50:47The designers are back in Brighton to find out who will make it through to next week and who will
50:52end up on the sofa.
50:54Ah, here they are. Come on in, please.
50:59Did you shake off all the sand before you came into Michelle's studio?
51:03LAUGHTER
51:04Now, Emily, did you have those cockles I left for you on your table?
51:08I've had them for breakfast today.
51:10LAUGHTER
51:10I know you're lying.
51:13Well, listen, I thought all your huts were amazing, but it's not me you need to impress.
51:19Let's welcome our very own Pammy Anderson and David Hasselhoff.
51:23LAUGHTER
51:24It's Michelle and Jonathan!
51:26CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
51:29Oh, this is such a wonderful introduction to you.
51:32Who's into their animal prints?
51:34Who likes the bright colours?
51:35Who's into more muted things?
51:37And one could see them like a doll's house and see all the different rooms and all the, like, wild
51:43different interpretations.
51:44It's quite fascinating.
51:46So, Michelle, who was your standout space?
51:48There was one heart that seemed to bring a sense of the architectural, had colour, it had softness and warmth.
51:56But congratulations must go...
52:04..to Ben!
52:05Well done!
52:08Thank you very much.
52:09Thank you. That means a lot.
52:11That door was a stroke of genius.
52:12It was perfectly designed because you really know how to layer space with just the right bits and bobs.
52:18It was fantastic.
52:19Thank you very much.
52:22So, were any other huts a hit?
52:24Sophie, very, very louche.
52:26I loved it.
52:28I loved how you created levels.
52:31It was very cleverly done.
52:33It was cool.
52:34That's what you were after, wasn't it?
52:35That was.
52:35That was the vibe, yeah.
52:38Ajit, we really admired your ambition in creating that kind of interlocking sense
52:42of furniture.
52:43And we loved as well that you gave us a dedicated changing area at the back.
52:47Oh, thank you.
52:48And Duran, that arch was really an interesting choice.
52:52The thing that really took it there, though, was what we have dubbed your heroic squiggle.
52:57Thank you so much.
52:58I'd also really like to commend Leah.
53:01Thank you so much for taking us to the Amalfi Coast.
53:04What a joy.
53:06And Frankie.
53:07That boat was a brilliant gesture, and I loved it.
53:11Thanks so much.
53:12And Johnny as well.
53:14Your scheme was quite spare, but what you did, you did really well.
53:18So congratulations.
53:19Thank you so much.
53:20I'm afraid that does mean that Teo, Kate, and Emily, I would like to see you on my sofa.
53:29Congratulations to the rest of you, especially Ben.
53:33Thanks.
53:36Absolutely ecstatic.
53:37It's gone, Ben, amazing.
53:39This is such like a proud moment for myself that I've actually managed to achieve something like this.
53:45I think it's going to take a bit of time for this one to settle in, I think.
53:48I am really disappointed in myself.
53:50I spent so long cladding and using all those reclaimed materials that it lost like the wow.
53:59I mean, it's really hard, you know, being on the sofa in week one.
54:02And I think I could have created more busyness in a good way.
54:06Not great going on the sofa.
54:08It was the one thing that I was really dreading.
54:11And I really hope that they didn't hate it as much as I feel like they might have done.
54:15I'm sad, but I'm looking forward to the critique.
54:23Hi there.
54:24Hi.
54:25All right, Emily, should we start with you?
54:28What's with the papier-mâché? Why do you love that so much?
54:31Just because I trained as a ceramicist, but then I couldn't afford the clay and the firing.
54:36So then I moved to newspaper.
54:38I am a ceramicist turned interior designer.
54:40So, like, I see you.
54:42And your space was fascinating.
54:44It was.
54:45In a good...
54:46It was like...
54:47I'm sorry if it was terrible.
54:49It was weird, but weird is great.
54:51But you do need to work on space design.
54:54When I sat down on the sofa, I've got a hulking bit of furniture that completely blocked my view.
54:59Mm.
54:59You really need to understand that when you're in that space, why am I here?
55:03I'm here to look at the sea.
55:05But on a positive note, you can learn that.
55:08But you can't learn originality and creativity.
55:11So, Kate, we loved your outside set-up.
55:14The table setting out front was, like, whimsical and colourful.
55:18And then the mood inside got a little less fun.
55:21The space didn't cohere.
55:23And I think one of the key things I would say to everyone is you start with one big idea,
55:28which is what you gave us outside, and then everything else feeds into that.
55:32Yes, definitely.
55:34Teo, how would you describe your signature style?
55:37Kind of retro-modern, kind of bringing in older pieces and then creating some contrast.
55:42I'm intrigued that you said that part of your style is bringing old and new together,
55:45because it looked like everything was new.
55:47Bringing in the old things are kind of focused on that surfboard on the ceiling.
55:51So do you feel there was something missing from yours?
55:54Yeah, I definitely think there was.
55:55When I walked in and I'd finished and I looked at everybody else's,
55:57I was like, that final finesse wasn't there.
56:00I wanted a lot more zhush.
56:02Yeah.
56:03You know, like, your cushions could have been fluffy.
56:05And then there needs to sort of be a lot of, like, soft, frilly things about...
56:10That kind of top layer.
56:12I totally get all three of you.
56:16So we want ideas, we want the ambition.
56:19And so I think on that basis...
56:28Teo, you will be the person leaving us this week.
56:32Cheers.
56:32Oh, Teo, it's been fun.
56:34Lovely getting to know you and everybody.
56:37Have you had a good time?
56:37Yeah, I've had fun.
56:38Good day at the beach.
56:39Yeah.
56:40I'm so happy to be through.
56:42I'd love to see another day and show off what I can do.
56:45And I'm so chuffed.
56:47Thank you for everything.
56:48Good luck.
56:49I feel like I need to absolutely smash it next week.
56:52Show that I can bring, you know, these beautiful spaces.
56:56Got it to be going home, but it's been great to get out of the house,
57:00get off my computer, get out of my comfort zone,
57:02and come and do something.
57:03I'll go out with my hotel time.
57:07Next time...
57:09The designers battle it out in a castle.
57:12I'm going to knock out all the competition with this.
57:16Transforming hotel bedrooms.
57:17Yeah, this is...
57:19Oh!
57:20Into romantic retreats.
57:23What, like, turns you on like fish?
57:25Octopuses, clearly.
57:55Ha, ha, ha!
