00:17Poblio 14 arrived earlier in Ecuador, Guinea, where he has held numerous activity and he is
00:23currently visiting a psychiatric hospital. Let's go. We have live images coming direct
00:28from Ecuador, Guinea, where the Pope is addressing the people's gathering. Let's listen.
00:33And the joy, the hope, of knowing that we are caring for those who are in frail health.
00:45A few words that we just heard really moved me. The director said,
00:53a truly great society is not one that hides its weaknesses, but one that surrounds them with
01:00love. That is true. This is a principle of a civilization with Christian roots. For in the
01:12course of human history, Christ came to redeem and restore to full dignity those who suffer from
01:20the stigma of disability. However, the Savior does not wish to, nor can he, save us without our
01:31cooperation, both on a personal and social level. Therefore, he asks us to love our brothers and
01:37sisters not just in words, but also in deeds. A facility such as this, with God's help and
01:49everyone's commitment, can become a sign of the civilization of love.
01:56Mr. Pedro Celestino, who chose to conclude with a touching remark, thank you for loving us just as we
02:07are. And I say to him, thank you for your witness. Thank you to all of you for being here,
02:17for giving your
02:18testimony. A sign of being here in this place. A place of authentic love.
02:28Yes, God loves us just as we are. In reality, only God truly loves us just as we are. But
02:37he does not intend for us to stay that way.
02:41God does not want us to remain sick forever. God does not want us to remain sick forever. He wants
02:45to heal us. He wants to give us the grace to help us to heal the wounds that we carry.
02:56This is seen in the gospel time and time again. Jesus came to love us just as we are. Yet
03:04he does not want us to stay that way, but rather to care for us.
03:11A hospital, especially one with a Christian mission, is a place where a person is welcomed just as they are,
03:18and respected in their frailty.
03:22So that they can be helped to get better according to a holistic vision.
03:31For this, the spiritual dimension is essential. And I was very pleased that director emphasized this point.
03:41Thank you to Mr. Tarcicio for his poem. I would like to say that in an environment such as this,
03:50many hidden poems are composed every day, not with words, but with small gestures, with thoughtfulness and kindness in your
04:02relationships with one another.
04:04We will listen to some statements of Pope Leo XIV here visiting the Jean-Pierre Oli Psychiatric Hospital, having a
04:12moment of change with the patients and with the staff that works here.
04:14And he was thanking them for all the hard work and also calling on them, spreading the message of love,
04:21peace and coexistence that has been spreading over his apostolic journey.
04:25Thank you so much for having me.
