00:07The main reason for my visit today is to be able to meet and start apprentices that are part of
00:13the
00:14Minns Government's quarter of a billion dollar program to provide for opportunities for apprentices,
00:21cadets and trainees right throughout the state of New South Wales.
00:31Out of the nearly 1,200 apprentices that have been trainees and cadets that have been employed,
00:3766% have been employed through regional New South Wales.
00:42That means that those young people do not have to leave their hometowns.
00:45Those young people have an opportunity of a career within the local government sector.
00:54It allows young people of all ages, I guess, even those retraining,
00:58to be able to work locally, stay locally and ultimately they will retain the workforce.
01:06So homegrown is the way to go and I don't think there's a better way than getting people to stay
01:11in our local regions when you can train them locally.
01:14To be honest, doing something with the community rather than adjusting for the paycheck really makes me feel good.
01:22And at the end of the day, being able to see my contribution sort of gives myself a little pat
01:27on the back.
01:29I've been with Council now for coming up the year this month.
01:33I was job searching, I wanted to grow my skill set and grow as a person.
01:37I come along this and I thought it would be a great opportunity.
01:40I think it's a great program.
01:42I think every business in our city is trying to employ as many traineeships and apprentices as they can.
01:48We've got a real push up start here with the government helping us with those 15 positions.
01:53I think it's absolutely great.
01:54You all really have never had a in all, you know,
01:56it's all the time to play.
