A nursery worker, the company that ran Fairytales Day Nursery, and its owner have been sentenced over the death of Noah Sibanda in Dudley. The court heard the fourteen-month-old was subjected to unsafe sleeping practices, and the nursery has since closed.

00:0414-month-old Noah Sibander was dropped off for what should have been an ordinary day
00:09at Fairy Tales Day Nursery in Dudley.
00:12Instead, he died after the court heard he was subjected to excessive force
00:17as staff tried to make him sleep.
00:20Wolverhampton Crown Court was told Noah was placed face down on a soft cushion
00:24inside a teepee in the nursery's baby room.
00:29Kimberly Cookson then wrapped him tightly in blankets
00:32and held her leg across his lower back for about seven minutes,
00:36believing he had fallen asleep.
00:38She left him there.
00:40Staff did not physically check on him for about two hours
00:43and later he was found unresponsive and died in hospital.
00:48Cookson has been jailed for three years and four months
00:52for gross negligence manslaughter.
00:54The nursery company was fined for corporate manslaughter
00:57and a health and safety offence.
01:00Its owner, Deborah Latewood, received a suspended prison sentence
01:05for a health and safety offence.
01:07The judge said the footage was shocking and Noah's mother told the court
01:11her son died alone, scared and in pain.
01:14Police said the practice was not isolated with other children
01:18showing being wrapped in the same way,
01:20while prosecutors said Noah should have been safe in proper professional care.
