00:02Residents in low-lying areas of Wellington were urged to evacuate on Monday, as heavy rain continued to drench the
00:08city, which experienced flash flooding overnight.
00:12The deluge caused flash flooding, road closures and landslides in the city's central business district and southern suburbs.
00:19Media reported that people had to escape flooded homes during the night, and at least one landslide hit a home.
00:25A number of streets in the city were evacuated, and the Fire and Emergency Service said they responded to 150
00:32calls for assistance overnight.
00:34I woke up this morning at 6am and looked outside and there's water everywhere, and I noticed a car down
00:42the street, all the water has gushed and shunted one of the cars into the other.
00:46And then right over here, on the corner of Wright Street, all these cars were floating.
00:52And this car over here, the white one, has also floated around the corner, so yeah, with all the water
00:58that was just flooded everywhere.
00:59The heavy rain came blowing through, and it woke me up, just the rain.
01:06And then there was like a gentle earthquake.
01:10Well, it wasn't an earthquake.
01:12It was the hillside coming down.
01:16And that's about all I know.
01:18I didn't bother getting up out of bed or anything to have a look.
01:21I didn't think there was anything.
01:24Scary, wouldn't you?
01:25Police said a search is underway for a man living at a property that was flooded in the suburb of
01:30Karori.
01:31The weather cleared for a few hours earlier on Monday, allowing some of the floodwaters to dissipate, but further heavy
01:38rain is now hitting the city again.
