00:00A U.S. warship passed through the Strait of Melaka over the weekend, the Indonesian Navy said on Monday,
00:07adding that the transit through the major sea route was in accordance with international law.
00:12The warship passed through the Strait on Saturday, April 18th, Indonesian Navy spokesman 1st Admiral Tunggul told Reuters.
00:20The 900-kilometer-long Melaka Strait links Asia with the Middle East and Europe, carrying around 25% of the
00:27world's traded goods.
00:28Navy Commander Matthew Comer, a spokesman at the U.S. military's Indo-Pacific Command,
00:35identified the warship as the Japan-based USS Miguel Keith, which has been at sea conducting routine operations in U
00:43.S. Seventh Fleet.
00:44Comer did not provide details about the destination of the warship, citing U.S. Navy policy not to discuss future
00:51operations or movements for security reasons,
00:54but said it had undergone maintenance in South Korea in early April.
