00:00Welcome back to the channel. And if you are new here, seriously, perfect timing. Because today
00:05we are talking about one of the most passionate and most divided fanbases in all of anime right
00:10now. I'm talking about The Beginning After The End, also known as Debate, based on the legendary
00:16web novel by Turtle Me, one of the most read fantasy stories on the internet. A story that
00:22has millions and millions of fans across the world. And Season 2 just dropped on April 1st,
00:282026. Now, I'm going to be real with you in this video. I'm going to talk about the story,
00:34the characters, what happened in Episode 1, all of it. But I'm also going to be honest about the
00:39one thing every Debate fan already knows is the elephant in the room, the animation situation.
00:45Because this show deserves an honest breakdown. Not just hype. Not just criticism. The full picture.
00:51So, whether you're a diehard fan of the web novel, someone who watched Season 1, or someone brand new
00:57to the world of Dicaten. This video is for you. Let's get into it. Hit that like button and subscribe
01:03if you're new, we cover everything here. Quick introduction for anyone who hasn't seen this show
01:08or read the source material yet. Because Debate has one of the most unique premises in the ice guy
01:14genre. The story begins with King Grey, the most powerful ruler in a futuristic world. He has
01:21everything. Unmatched strength, wealth, political power, but absolutely nothing else. No real friends.
01:27No family. No one he trusts. He is completely alone at the top. And his life has been nothing but
01:34cold,
01:34calculated conquest. And then, he dies. He wakes up reborn as Arthur Laywin. A baby boy in the magical
01:42world of Dicaten. A world of mana, magical beasts, elves, dwarves, and dangers that even King Grey's
01:49experience hasn't prepared him for. But here's what makes Arthur special. He carries all of King Grey's
01:56memories, wisdom, and fighting instincts from his past life. As he grows up in this new world,
02:02he's not starting from zero. He's a seasoned king in a child's body, learning to love, trust,
02:08and connect with people in ways he never allowed himself to before. Season 1 covered Arthur's childhood,
02:14his family, his training, his bond with Sylvie, his dragon-like mana beast companion, and his developing
02:21friendship with the elven princess Tesha. It ended with Arthur completing his adventurer missions and
02:27preparing to enter Zyrus Academy. Season 2 picks up right there, and we join Arthur in the middle of one
02:32of
02:33his final missions before the Academy arc begins. Okay, I said I was going to be honest, and I meant
02:38it.
02:38So before we talk about the story, we need to address the animation. Because if you've been
02:43part of the debate community, you already know, this has been one of the biggest ongoing conversations
02:49around this show. Studio ACAD has been criticized heavily since Season 1 for what fans describe as
02:55slideshow animation, meaning scenes that rely too much on still images with minimal movement,
03:01quick cuts, and stock visual effects rather than proper fluid animation. Over 40,000 fans signed a
03:07petition demanding the anime be remade with a different studio after Season 1 and Season 2
03:13Episode 1. Unfortunately, the same issues are still there. Critics have called it PowerPoint
03:18presentation-level animation. There was even a moment in the episode where the screen randomly went out
03:24of focus for no reason. I want to be clear, this is a real issue, and it's okay to be
03:29frustrated by it.
03:30A story this beloved deserves better production quality. And I'm going to mention it because
03:35pretending it doesn't exist would be dishonest to you. But, and this is a big but, the story itself,
03:42the characters, the world building, the source material that this anime is adapting, that is
03:47genuinely excellent. And that is why this show hit the Crunchyroll Top 10 in the US just three days
03:53after Episode 1 dropped. Because people love Arthur Lewin's story even when the animation lets it down.
03:59So let's talk about what actually happened in the episode.
04:02Episode 1 opens with Arthur and Jasmine Flamesworth, his adventurer mentor and training partner,
04:08heading out on a guild quest. Their mission is to investigate a village near the Beast Glade that
04:13has gone completely silent. No communication. No response. Something has gone wrong there,
04:19and the guild needs to know why. Meanwhile, Sylvie, Arthur's bonded dragon companion,
04:25heads off nearby to train on her own while Arthur and Jasmine handle the investigation.
04:29The two of them enter the village, and immediately something is deeply, visibly wrong. Every single
04:36villager has been crystallized. Frozen solid inside, transparent crystal, like living statues scattered
04:43throughout the village. They're not dead, but they're completely trapped and unreachable.
04:48The whole scene is eerie and unsettling, and the episode lets that atmosphere sink in.
04:53As Arthur and Jasmine carefully search for answers, they find one survivor.
04:58The only villager who wasn't crystallized, and just as they're trying to speak with them and get
05:03information about what happened, a massive spider beast drops into the scene. This is an arachne,
05:09and Jasmine immediately recognizes it. She tells Arthur directly, this is not a normal threat.
05:15She and a much larger party that included Arthur's own parents once had tremendous difficulty
05:20defeating one. An arachne is one of the top five most dangerous beasts in the world.
05:25The crystal effect on the village? That's the arachne's power. It's been here the whole time.
05:31The smart move is to retreat, report back to the guild, and come back with a proper team.
05:36So naturally, Arthur doesn't do that. Arthur and Jasmine begin to fall back,
05:41but the arachne isn't going to let them just walk away. It ambushes them mid-retreat.
05:46And before Arthur can react, the arachne hits Jasmine, and she's crystallized.
05:51His mentor. His teacher. The person who has trained him and fought alongside him.
05:56Now frozen in crystal in front of him. Arthur is alone. With an arachne. One of the five most
06:02dangerous beasts in the world. With no backup and no option to run. So he fights. The battle that
06:08follows is the central action sequence of the episode. Arthur starts with his standard physical
06:14attacks, and they barely scratch the arachne. This thing is genuinely durable and powerful in a way
06:20that makes Arthur's normal strength feel insufficient. So he adapts. And this is where
06:25the episode shows us something important about who Arthur is becoming as a fighter. He starts
06:30combining his magic directly with his sword strikes. Infusing mana into every blow to multiply their
06:37impact. It's a technique that bridges his two disciplines. The physical combat instincts from
06:42his past life as King Grey, and the magical understanding he's built in this life as Arthur.
06:48The fight goes back and forth. The arachne is relentless. Arthur takes hits. But he keeps
06:54adapting. Keeps pushing. Keeps finding angles the beast doesn't expect. And eventually, Arthur wins.
07:00He slashes off the arachne's limbs one by one. And finally takes off its head. The moment the
07:06arachne dies, the crystal curse is lifted. Jasmine is freed. The villagers are freed. Every single
07:13person crystallized in the village wakes up, disoriented but alive. It's a genuine victory.
07:19And for a kid Arthur's age, defeating a top 5 beast solo is an absolutely remarkable feat. With the
07:25mission complete, Arthur and Jasmine return to the guild. And the reception is, mixed, Alice. The guild
07:32handler who oversees their missions, does not congratulate Arthur. Instead, she gives him a full
07:38scolding. Because what Arthur did, choosing to fight in arachne alone instead of retreating to
07:43get backup, was reckless. The protocol for a threat that level is to fall back. Period. The fact that he
07:50won doesn't make the decision less dangerous. And she's not wrong. Arthur is extraordinary. But even
07:57the most talented fighters can die from a single bad decision against a top-tier beast. Alice's reaction
08:03is the realistic one. And it's an important character beat for Arthur. A reminder that being
08:08powerful doesn't mean being invincible or above strategy. The mood at the guild is mostly one of
08:14amazement though. Other adventurers recognize what defeating an arachne means. The whispers spread
08:20fast. But then, Lucas White shows up. Lucas is arrogant, boastful, and immediately starts
08:26questioning whether Arthur's feat was even real. He's a recurring rival figure. The kind of character
08:32who can't let anyone else get recognition without challenging it. His arrival immediately
08:37sours the mood. And there's one more complication. While Sylvie was training nearby, she found the
08:43arachne's mana core after the battle and ate it. Which means the guild can't verify the kill with
08:49physical evidence. Lucas uses this as fuel for his dismissal of Arthur's achievement. It's a frustrating
08:55moment. But it's also very realistic to how these kinds of political social dynamics work in
09:01adventurer guilds. Arthur did an extraordinary thing and the system immediately finds a way to
09:07undermine it. The episode winds down with a softer, more emotional final segment. After a friendly
09:13sparring session with Jasmine in the courtyard. A scene that shows their bond and how far Arthur has
09:19grown under her mentorship. Arthur finds himself alone, looking up at the sky. And he thinks about
09:24Tesha. Tesha Erolith, the elven princess. His friend. Someone who matters to him deeply in a way the show
09:32has been building carefully since season 1. And then the episode cuts to Tesha herself, running
09:37frantically, desperately, fleeing from a massive boulder that is falling toward her. It's a sharp
09:43tonal contrast to the quiet, reflective moment we just had with Arthur. Something is happening to
09:49Tesha. Something dangerous. And the episode ends before we find out what. It's a classic two-track
09:55setup. Showing us Arthur's world and Tesha's world running in parallel. Both heading towards something
10:01that will bring them together. It immediately makes you want episode 2. So that is the beginning
10:06after the end season 2 episode 1. And here's my honest take. The story is genuinely good. The arachne fight
10:12concept is exciting. The character dynamics between Arthur, Jasmine, and Alice all work. Lucas White's
10:19as a rival is an effective antagonist presence. And the Tesha cliffhanger at the end is perfectly
10:25placed to pull you into episode 2. The animation is still a real problem. That's the truth. And the
10:31community is right to talk about it. The action sequences have the bones of something great, but the
10:37execution doesn't match the source material's quality. Every time the story's potential shines
10:42through, the production reminds you it could look so much better. But here's the thing. This is still
10:48to bait. Arthur's story is still one of the most compelling Ice Guy narratives out there. The Crunchyroll
10:54top 10 placement after just three days tells you everything about how loyal and passionate this fanbase
10:59is. People are here for the story. And the story is delivering. Season 2 is just getting started.
11:05And if you're a fan of the web novel, you already know what's coming. And it's big. And that is
11:11your
11:11full breakdown of the beginning after the end Season 2, Episode 1. Arthur investigating a crystallized
11:18village solo. Fighting and defeating one of the world's top 5 beasts completely alone. Getting
11:24scolded for being reckless despite winning. Lucas White's being the worst. And Tesha running from a
11:29giant boulder in the final seconds. Bait is back. With all its strengths and all its controversies still
11:36in full swing. Now I want to hear from you in the comments. Are you still watching despite the
