00:04Nice to meet you, nice to meet you. I'm Abby. My name's Abby. Nice to meet you. Come in. Is
00:14she?
00:20Hello. Hi. Nice to meet you Jade. My name's Ali. I'm Jade. Lovely to meet you. Hi.
00:30Hi. You know you from Little Mix? Yes, correct. I was in Little Mix.
00:41Oh, it's an X Factor. Oh my gosh, that's such a throwback. We used to have to do that all
00:47the time.
00:55I'm Kevin. It's lovely to meet you. Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you.
00:58Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. Same thing. I'm Shana. How are you?
01:02I'm Dinani. Dinani. I'm your big fan. Oh, thank you. Cheers.
01:17We're going to start now. Jacob, would you like to do our introduction? Let's go, Jacob.
01:21Welcome to the Assembly, our collective of autistic, neurodivergent and learning disabled interviewers.
01:28Our rules are no question is out of bound, no subject is off the table, and all might happen. Prepare
01:36for hard questions today.
01:38Whoa. Please tell us who you are.
01:40I am Jade Thirlwall, and I'm very happy to be here.
01:46So, I'm Jacob, everyone. Jacob. Hi, Jacob. Good job, Jacob. Good job.
01:52We're going to come to Paul first. Hello, Paul.
01:56Hello, I'm Paul. Yeah?
02:00A lot of ex-factor readers have sold their soul. Do you regret selling yours?
02:04Do I regret selling my soul?
02:08That's a good question.
02:12Um...
02:14Um...
02:17Um...
02:19You've trumped me.
02:23Maybe a little bit in the beginning, you know, in terms of I was so young and I just signed
02:28the dotted line.
02:30But, um, I feel like as the years have gone by and I've learnt more and more about the industry,
02:35I've been, like, collecting, a bit like Thanos with the stones, I've been collecting parts of my soul back.
02:41Yeah.
02:41Um, as I've gained more and more creative freedom, I've learnt more about the industry.
02:46Is it the end of Simon Cowell?
02:48Oh.
02:49Yes.
02:50I think it's the end of that kind of, um, TV show or music label.
02:57I think it's the end of that era.
02:59But I don't know if Simon Cowell specifically is ended.
03:04You're that Simon Cowell?
03:05Have I met him?
03:06Yeah, I've been round his house for a roast.
03:09A roast?
03:10Yeah.
03:11How is it, Simon Cowell's house?
03:13A lot of monochrome, yeah.
03:16Next up with a question is Luca.
03:18Greetings, Jade.
03:20Greetings.
03:20The name is Luca.
03:21Luca.
03:22And, um...
03:25You know what?
03:26I'm just going to say it.
03:27This is really important, you know?
03:29OK.
03:29The autistic mind is telling me Luca asked this question.
03:32Just be nice about it.
03:34So, you know you're a part Egyptian?
03:36Yeah.
03:37Can you tell me, were the pyramids created by aliens?
03:44I don't know if I'm qualified.
03:47I mean, something spectacular made them.
03:50Because if you watch...
03:51Hey.
03:52If you watch those...
03:54If you watch those, um, documentaries,
03:57we can't actually explain it, right?
03:59And because they're dotted all over the world,
04:01not just Egypt.
04:02You know, you've got them in...
04:03Is it Mexico?
04:04Mexico.
04:05Yeah.
04:06This sort of pyramid shape.
04:07Like, what does it mean?
04:08Yeah.
04:09I really appreciate that.
04:10Thank you, Luca.
04:11Yeah.
04:11Joseph?
04:12Hello.
04:13Hello, hello.
04:15Personal question.
04:16Mm-hm.
04:17How is, um, your relationship between you and your mum?
04:21Oh, um...
04:23Well, I adore my mum.
04:25Mum really looked like Diana Ross when I was little.
04:27Really?
04:28She had the big, sort of, bushy, long hair,
04:31and then, you know, the big doe eyes.
04:33I love Diana Ross.
04:35When she would sort of go off to do the bingo with her friends,
04:38she'd be like, I'm off to do a gig.
04:40So I thought my mum was Diana Ross.
04:42Um, yeah.
04:44Yeah, we've definitely got closer as the years have gone on.
04:48I think, as a teenager, because we never discussed things
04:53that I didn't realise I needed to talk about, like race,
04:57um, I think it actually affected me quite a bit.
05:00I was quite scared to promote or, um, speak out about my heritage.
05:06Mm-hm.
05:07And, honestly, that's something that I still carry with me now.
05:10I'm quite ashamed of that.
05:14Right. Yeah, I see.
05:15Which I think, once we finally started talking about my mum's experiences,
05:20I feel like we became closer than ever.
05:23It was the missing link of the thing we'd not, like, connected over.
05:26Yeah.
05:26Do you know what I mean?
05:27We've always been close, but I think that experience
05:30particularly drew us even closer.
05:33Wow. I'm genuinely happy for you.
05:37Takara?
05:41Hi.
05:42Hi.
05:47Um...
05:56I would like to, um...
05:59Yeah?
06:03...duet with you on one of your songs.
06:06Oh, my gosh.
06:07If I sang Black Magic, would you do it with me?
06:10Yes, of course.
06:12I'd love to.
06:13Oh, my God.
06:14Has anyone got the music ready?
06:16I think we're going acapella.
06:18Yeah.
06:18All right.
06:33I've got the recipe.
06:35It's called Black Magic.
06:37It's called Black Magic.
06:39It's called Black Magic.
06:39Take it down.
06:40Come and seek your portion.
06:42What's this and you'll be mine?
06:44First time I can't be broken.
06:46They'll pick you up all night.
06:48What's it meant to me?
06:50I've got the recipe.
06:52It's called Black Magic.
06:54It's called Black Magic.
06:56It's called Black Magic.
06:57It's called Black Magic.
07:20Oh, my gosh.
07:21Next question is from Essin.
07:24Like myself, you come from a Muslim Catholic background.
07:29What was that like for you growing up?
07:32It was quite confusing, actually.
07:35Because I would go to Muslim school and then I would go to church.
07:40Yeah.
07:41So, I think from a young age, I was kind of like,
07:43well, which one is it, guys?
07:46Exactly.
07:47My granddad, Muhammad, he was so proud to be Muslim
07:51and he was the most beautiful soul.
07:53So, I really wanted to make him proud.
07:56When he passed away, I was 13.
07:59And it's a shame because I feel like that part of my heritage
08:02and culture sort of went with him.
08:05I was a similar age when one of my grandfathers passed away.
08:09I think what was also really hard is the fact that I couldn't tell him
08:12about my true identity being from the trans community.
08:16He would never have accepted that being he was Turkish Muslim.
08:20Yeah.
08:21I find it so, so hard.
08:23That's really difficult.
08:24If there is a Muslim background there,
08:25there's obvious conflicts there.
08:30Of course.
08:30Yeah.
08:31I mean, like with my granddad, Muhammad,
08:32I don't know if he would have been happy with my lifestyle choices.
08:37But I think it's okay to love that person and now they're gone,
08:43it's okay to accept that that's who they were.
08:46Exactly.
08:47That doesn't mean they didn't love you any less.
08:50And in my opinion, if there is something bigger than us
08:55and we're taught that they love us,
08:58surely you can be whoever you want to be
08:59and you're loved either way, right?
09:01Exactly.
09:01Yeah.
09:14What was your worst ever date you've been on?
09:18Oh, gosh.
09:22I have been catfished before.
09:25Oh, no.
09:26Do you know what that means?
09:27Catfished.
09:27So being catfished is when they don't look like the picture.
09:31Okay.
09:32Oh.
09:33So, yeah, I met up with a guy at a bar
09:35and I didn't know it was him because he looked so different.
09:39He was asking a lot of sort of intrusive questions,
09:42almost like a journalist.
09:44So I got the ick quite quickly there.
09:48Ali, would you like to ask your question now?
09:51About your boyfriend, Jordan Stephens.
09:54Yes.
09:55What was your date night like for you and him?
09:58Oh, wow.
09:59Oh, okay.
10:01Erm, so we met in lockdown.
10:04Zoom dates.
10:04We have to stay isolated, really.
10:06Yes, and we did three Zoom dates
10:08and because we were all bored of them at that point,
10:11for our first date we put suits on
10:13and we did it like a business interview
10:15and we asked each other.
10:17LAUGHTER
10:21We asked each other sort of very serious questions,
10:24like I think one of my questions was
10:26do you clap when the plane lands?
10:28Because that's a big ick for me.
10:29I did that a long time ago,
10:31clapping when the plane lands.
10:32Yeah, that's not for me, so...
10:34Do you know what?
10:35There is something I would give advice about relationships,
10:37like share the interests,
10:39ask what's your favourite food or activities.
10:42Then when you're ready on a date,
10:45you could see what it's like
10:48and how it feels to experience the food you like
10:52and which ones you don't like.
10:54Yeah.
10:55That's great advice.
10:56Ah.
10:56Well, thank you for your time.
10:58Thank you so much.
10:59I appreciate your time.
10:59I loved your questions.
11:00Oh, yeah, I would say that too.
11:02And the advice I made as well.
11:05Okay, Sophie, you're up.
11:07Hi, Jade.
11:08Hello.
11:08A fun fact about me.
11:10Yes?
11:10I did music in college.
11:12Did you?
11:12Yeah.
11:13So, I heard you do GCSE music.
11:16Yes.
11:16And I heard you stole a song.
11:18Which song was it?
11:20Oh!
11:21Oh!
11:22Oh!
11:22What?
11:23Oh!
11:24Am I allowed to say it?
11:25Would I get in trouble by the GCSE board?
11:28No.
11:29Um, so, when I did music,
11:31one of the, like, chorus-fit things was to write a song.
11:34I panicked and it was a last-minute thing.
11:37So, I took the chorus out of a song from Dreamgirls, the musical.
11:41Yes!
11:42Oh!
11:42Yay!
11:43And I pretended it was my song.
11:45I know that's bad.
11:46Well, in Hollywood, they do it all the time.
11:47That's how it is.
11:48Right?
11:48It's a song that goes like,
11:49move, move, move right out of my life.
11:52But did GCSE board ever find out?
11:54Well, they will now.
11:57Uh-oh!
11:58Oh!
11:58But, yeah, that is pretty bad.
12:01We've got a question from Elijah up next.
12:03Hiya.
12:04Can you give an example of a question
12:06that an interviewer would ask a female celebrity
12:08that they wouldn't ask a male celebrity?
12:10Oh.
12:12The thing that, if I'm being,
12:13I'm going to be very honest now about this,
12:16the thing that annoys me the most that I get asked a lot
12:18is if I'm going to have children,
12:20do I want to be pregnant next?
12:22Am I pregnant?
12:23But I find it really weird when people ask that
12:27because they don't know what my circumstances are, you know?
12:30It's also none of their business.
12:31But you don't know if someone can't have children
12:34or just doesn't want to or they're not ready yet.
12:37I think it's a really invasive question.
12:39Yeah.
12:40And I really resent being asked it.
12:43And because of that as well, it's meant that, um,
12:47I've put on, like, maybe a little bit of weight
12:48since I've become a solo artist.
12:51And because of that, people speculate a lot, like,
12:53oh, is she pregnant?
12:54I'm like, guys, I just had a bit of garlic bread and bloated.
12:57Do you know what I mean?
12:58You know what I mean?
12:59But it's like, I can't...
13:00I feel like I have to always be conscious now of, like,
13:02oh, God, make sure I'm not bloated
13:03because they're going to start saying that I'm pregnant again.
13:06Yeah.
13:07Did that answer your question?
13:09Yeah, thank you.
13:10Next up, we've got Nicola who's going to ask you a question.
13:13Hi, Jade, how are you?
13:14Good, thank you.
13:15I am a big fan of Little Mix.
13:20Who's your dentist?
13:23Who's my dentist?
13:25Yeah.
13:25Yeah.
13:26Well, I've got a local one, but I do go to see this guy.
13:30I think on his Instagram, he's called the Tooth Fairy.
13:33Tooth Fairy?
13:33Yeah.
13:35I mean, it makes sense.
13:37How long you be the dentist? How long?
13:39Oh, gosh.
13:40I'd probably do an appointment, to be honest.
13:44Next up, we've got Julis.
13:47You were quite close with Liam Payne.
13:51And there's a lot of difficult stories out there
13:56and a lot of negativity surrounding him.
13:58I just wondered if you'd like to share a positive memory
14:01that you guys have and just talk about what he was like as a person.
14:07He was the first friend I made in the industry.
14:12We both auditioned for X Factor when we were very young.
14:15It was just so lovely.
14:17He was obviously very talented.
14:20He really wanted to make his family proud, which he did.
14:24And just, I remember everyone who was on the show at the time
14:29being like, oh, this person's a star, you know?
14:32You could tell.
14:33He literally had the X Factor.
14:36So, he was destined to be a musician and a singer.
14:43So, yeah.
14:45I'm glad you asked that.
14:47OK, Jenny, you're up next.
14:52Hiya.
14:53Hi.
14:55Do you get trapped wind?
14:58Do you get trapped wind?
15:00Oh!
15:03I do get trapped wind.
15:05And it's really painful, actually.
15:08Has anyone had it before?
15:09Yeah, I had it before. It's really painful.
15:10I've been told numerous times that if you actually get on all fours...
15:14Oh.
15:14..and it does work, you know.
15:16What, on the floor?
15:17Yeah, if you get literally on all fours like a dog...
15:20OK.
15:20..for whatever reason, it will pass through.
15:24OK.
15:25Paris?
15:27We heard you are very good at dancing.
15:31Could you teach us some dance moves?
15:34Yeah.
15:35Are you going to dance with me?
15:36Yeah.
15:37Yeah.
15:37Very good at dancing, so...
15:39Yeah.
15:39You know, everyone's got a bit of, you know, a rhythm in them.
15:42Oh, for It Girl, maybe I can show you a bit of that one
15:44because that's the one that's fresh in my head.
15:46I started like this, it would go, like a giant...
15:49Clop.
15:50Yeah!
15:50And it would go, scat, like it was biting.
15:54Cut.
15:54Yeah, and then I'd go, scat.
15:56What would you call this? You're good at crying.
15:58That's an Egyptian.
15:58That's an Egyptian.
16:00Like this.
16:01Yeah.
16:01Then I'd walk forward for two.
16:03One, two, and then...
16:06And then I'd clutch my boobs.
16:08Oh!
16:09OK.
16:10They'd go, da-da-da, and then they'd go, ca-cah.
16:13So I'll do it again with you.
16:14Yeah.
16:15Five, six, seven, eight.
16:18Scat.
16:18I am the It Girl, walk, walk.
16:23I am the Shit Girl.
16:30Maybe that was the wrong song choice.
16:33Thank you, Paris.
16:35Cameron.
16:36So this question's quite personal, so if you don't feel comfortable answering, I understand.
16:41OK.
16:42I know when you were younger you suffered with an eating disorder.
16:45When did you realise you actually had a problem?
16:50Do you know, I don't think I realised for a long time, because it became so normal for me, and
16:59I hid it quite well.
17:03My school counsellor sort of said to me, I think you've got a problem, you know, an issue here.
17:10And that's when my family sort of intervened.
17:14I don't know, I've been asked about this before, and I think people always assume, especially for young girls, that
17:19it's about how you look or things like that.
17:22And sometimes it's actually just about control, and at that point in my life I had a lot of things
17:28going on that I couldn't control, whether that was bullying or my granddad passing away, things like that.
17:33Do you chose to kind of grasp onto the one thing you could control?
17:35I think so, yeah.
17:37I had a sort of intervention where all my family sat with me and some doctors and kind of gave
17:43me some harsh truths.
17:46And I think once I realised that it wasn't just affecting me, it was affecting the people I loved around
17:53me, that's when I thought, oh, I really need to change this, you know.
17:58I'd never seen, particularly my sort of brother and my dad, be so upset before.
18:07So, yeah, that made me want to change.
18:11Can I give you a hug?
18:12Oh, thank you!
18:14That's so sweet.
18:18So, yeah, thank you for that.
18:23That's some weird conversations.
18:25Yeah.
18:27But honestly, I'm not just saying this because I'm here.
18:30This is my favourite interview that I've ever done.
18:33Yay!
18:35And on that note, we're going to set up a performance for you.
18:38Oh, OK.
18:41Would you like to work with you on a song?
18:43Yeah.
18:44If you need rapping and vocals.
18:46Great.
18:48Yeah, sounds sick.
18:49It's an actual band.
18:59Lovely song, as long as I am.
19:08I'm coming.
19:11I'm coming.
19:16I'm coming.
19:21What is going on?
19:27I'm coming out.
19:29I'm on the world's good now.
19:32Got to let it show.
19:36I'm coming out.
19:38I'm on the world's good now.
19:41Got to let it show.
19:43So sick.
19:43There's a new me coming out.
19:46And I just have to live.
19:48And I want to give.
19:51I'm completely positive.
19:53I think this time around.
19:55I am gonna do it.
19:57Like you never knew it.
19:59Oh, I'll make it through.
20:02The time has come for me to break out of shell.
20:06I have to show that I'm coming out.
20:10I'm coming out.
20:12I want the love to know.
20:15I've got to let it show.
20:19I'm coming out.
20:21I want the love to know.
20:24I've got to let it show.
20:27I've got to show all I want to be.
20:31And all my abilities.
20:33There's so much more to me.
20:35Somehow I'll have to make them.
20:38Just understand.
20:40I've got it but I have.
20:42Know how I play.
20:44I'm spreading love.
20:46There's no need to be.
20:49And I'll just feel so good.
20:51Every time I hear it.
20:53I'm coming out.
20:55I want the love to know.
20:58I've got to let it show.
21:02I'm coming out.
21:04I want the love to know.
21:07I've got to let it show.
21:09I'm coming out.
21:31I've got to let it show.
21:38I'm coming out.
21:40I want the love to know.
21:43I've got to let it show.
21:46I'm coming out.
21:49I want the love to know.
21:51Got to let it start
