00:02In Australia's remotest communities, higher than ever fuel prices are hitting hard.
00:09It's too much. It's almost $4 a litre. It's just too much cost for our groceries and stuff.
00:21Remote stores say food suppliers have already raised prices by up to 10%.
00:26Residents fear it could go higher.
00:30People are on very low incomes here, so it means that they won't be eating properly.
00:37Aboriginal organisations are calling for remote welfare payment increases.
00:42This is the most straightforward way to offer real cost of living support.
00:49There's a real opportunity here to recognise the extreme gap that exists in remote communities.
00:55The federal government has heard the concerns.
00:59The land councils in particular in the Northern Territory have raised this directly with me in terms of the remote
01:05area allowance, Jane.
01:06And I will certainly be taking that back to Canberra and speaking with my colleagues.
01:11Indigenous communities totally dependent on long haul transport for their food and for diesel for their remote power stations and
01:20water pumps are worried they'll suffer worst if Australian fuel shortages become severe.
01:26I'm really worried because when the Prime Minister starts going out to shore up supply, they must be worried about
01:33something, right?
01:35And I know that it's a national problem and I get that, but sometimes they can forget about the bush.
01:43So it is going to fall back to the governments to really be clear so that people feel assured that
01:48the power will stay on.
01:50The federal government says it will prioritise remote community fuel and freight.
01:55It's promising to do what it can to protect communities from global shockwaves.
02:01You know, also knows the space get perоме, but community Abstraction jeżeli tends to do a lot of fatigue and
02:01so much keeps going back together that they're only in the background.
02:01And I think they're going to control which system is re about and so on.
02:02At the top of the pandemic is aещonent.
02:02But I would say the idea of knowing seven people are currently in powerarena but some people think people do
02:03something because people want.
02:03I can't be surprised.
