00:17comments during his visit to Cameroon.
00:19The United States will prevent all shipping from entering or exiting Iranian ports in
00:24the Strait of Hormuz for as long as it takes.
00:28U.S. War Secretary Pete Hexet said the Navy is using less than 10 percent of its power
00:33to enforce the blockade as he complained about allies not aiding the effort.
00:38Allies have talked a lot and haven't done anything.
00:41And as the president has pointed out, this is a waterway that American commerce doesn't
00:46use all that much.
00:47We don't rely on the energy coming out of the Strait of Hormuz, but Asia does and Europe
00:52does.
00:53President Donald Trump also posted on social media and warned that any Iranian ships attempting
00:58to break it will be eliminated.
01:00They had a nuclear weapon.
01:01The blockade began on Monday after U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance left peace negotiations
01:06in Islamabad without a deal.
01:08The blockade will apply to all vessel traffic regardless of nationality.
01:14Traffic through the strategic waterway has been almost completely blocked since the war started
01:19on February 28th.
01:21This has sent energy prices spiking around the world.
01:24The International Energy Agency warns that Europe only has about six weeks of jet fuel left
01:30if supplies remain blocked.
01:36Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says attacks in Lebanon will continue as his country
01:41looks to achieve its main objective of, quote, eliminating the Hezbollah threat.
01:46Israeli ground forces have been operating in southern Lebanon for weeks where they've occupied
01:52what they're calling a security zone to create a buffer from northern Israeli villages.
01:58Netanyahu says he's ordered the IDF to expand that buffer zone, despite Israel engaging in
02:03the first direct talks with Lebanon in decades, mediated by the United States.
02:31Israel says the Iran-backed group poses an existential threat due to its close proximity and will not
02:37halt attacks on the country until it's eradicated.
02:40Wednesday saw a significant escalation in strikes on many towns and villages in the south.
02:48A triple-tap attack on the province of Maifadun in the southern Nabataia district killed four
02:54paramedics and wounded six others as they were responding to strikes in the area and caring
02:58for the injured, paramedic groups said.
03:01Their ambulances, as shown by body cam footage, were packed with wounded civilians at the time
03:07of the strikes, causing global outrage.
03:11Israeli attacks on Lebanon have killed at least 1,200 people, according to the health ministry,
03:16and internally displaced approximately one million others nationwide so far.
03:24On the second leg of his African tour, Pope Leo on Thursday traveled to the western Cameroonian
03:29city of Bamenda, preaching a message of peace to a region that's been at the epicenter of
03:35a separatist conflict that humanitarian groups have called one of the world's most neglected
03:40crises.
03:42Jesus told us, blessed are the peacemakers, but woe to those who manipulate religion in
03:49the very name of God for their own military, economic, or political gain.
03:55Pope Leo's message follows his speech given on Wednesday upon his arrival in the Central
04:00African country where he urged the poor Bia government to root out corruption.
04:05President Bia, who at 93 is the world's oldest leader, sat passively as Pope Leo read his
04:12speech in French at the presidential palace in Yaoundé.
04:15For that peace and justice understand, there must be our 오inion systems to do with the
04:22corruption that safeguards the authority and they are not visible to their credibility.
04:29There must be a combination of the heart of this fear of Gan, which is an idolatry.
04:50Being the first Pope to visit Cameroon since 2009, many cheering Cameroonians gave Pope
04:57Leo a raucous welcome, lining the road into the capital, Yaoundé, from the airport, dancing
05:02and waving palm fronds as the Pope's motorcade wheezed by. Ahead of the visit, the Vatican
05:08had said fighting corruption in Cameroon would be one of the themes of Leo's visit, and the
05:13Pope did not hold back.
05:19Russia launched a wave of missiles and drones at Ukraine overnight, targeting several cities
05:25including Kiev, Dnipro and Odessa. In Kiev, the attack killed at least five people, including
05:32a child. Dozens of others were injured. The attack caused extensive damage, including
05:38to several residential buildings, some of where large fires broke out, as well as a hotel.
05:44Russia's attacks continued in the morning on Thursday. Kiev's mayor reported that a low-flying
05:49drone crashed into an 18-story building. Dnipro also came under heavy fire. It marked the second
05:57time the city was targeted this week, according to local media. Fires broke out in several
06:02residential neighborhoods. Local authorities reported two people had been killed and dozens
06:07injured.
06:10And several explosions were reported in Odessa, where seven people were killed and at least
06:1511 injured.
06:17According to the Kiev Independent, last night's Russian attack was one of the deadliest on Ukrainian
06:22civilians this year. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces attacked Russia's Stropseport, which is home to
06:29a major oil export terminal and refinery in India. According to Russian officials and media,
06:34the attack killed two children and sparked a large fire.
06:40By Thursday, all ballot boxes containing votes cast abroad had arrived in Hungary.
06:45Hungary. Hungarian voters cast their ballots in 149 cities around the world. Ballot boxes
06:52arrived continuously throughout the week. The National Election Office thoroughly inspected each
06:58one of them to ensure that neither the seals nor the boxes themselves had been tampered with.
07:03Only then could the opening of the ballot boxes and the sorting of the ballots begin.
07:17According to the National Election Office, the turnout exceeded 90% at numerous overseas missions
07:24and was 100% at several smaller ones. At the overseas polling station with the highest turnout in London,
07:318,924 voters cast their ballots. The National Election Office will announce the nationwide results of the
07:38parliamentary election no later than on the 4th of May.
07:51Polish Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski has recently advised Pols to keep cash at home in case of digital failures.
07:58We asked also residents how they feel about this and whether they keep a cash reserve for emergencies.
08:06I think that it's a very good idea. It's not possible to be completely dependent on the bank.
08:13It's important to have a little bit. I always have it with me. I have a little bit.
08:18I have a little bit more than a thousand dollars.
08:20If I travel for example, and I don't have other options, I often have only a lot of food.
08:27I think that we need to have a card and money.
08:31Because, as I can imagine, we are in a place where we are in some places.
08:38We're in a place to be busy and pay for a day.
08:41I can't depend on the bank to pay for money.
08:45Or make the złoty.
08:50But we're in a budget to pay for a while.
08:54We're in a space to pay for a number of money.
08:55So we're in a place where we pay for a number of bills.
08:58We're in a place where we pay for a month.
09:01We're in a space to pay for a month.
09:02We don't know the amount of bills.
09:02We're in a space where we pay for something without passing.
09:04Meanwhile, the European Union is rolling out the idea of a digital euro, which could help reduce dependence on American
09:11payment processes.
09:12We are not in the euro, but the euro is a certain process. I don't know how banks will give
09:21this advice, how they will solve it.
09:23I think that this number is so good that we should be independent of these large companies.
09:31After the pandemic and amid ongoing wars, cyber attacks and blackouts, more and more people prefer to hold cash in
09:39their hands rather than keep it in the digital cloud.
09:46Rescuers began an operation on Thursday to save a humpback whale lying in shallow water near the eastern German town
09:52of Wiesmar on the Baltic Sea.
09:55The animal, which has been nicknamed Timmy, is sick and has barely moved for days. Many worry the animal may
10:01die soon.
10:03It is unclear why it swam into the Baltic Sea in the first place, which is so far away from
10:08its natural habitat.
10:09Some experts believe the animal might have lost its way while swimming after a shoal of herring or during migration.
10:16To get back to its natural habitat, the whale would have to travel back into the North Sea and then
10:22to the Atlantic Ocean.
10:25Previous rescue attempts temporarily freed the whale, but the animal never found its way back to the North Sea.
10:36FIFA President Gianni Infantino has reassured that Iran will participate in the 2026 World Cup despite the war in the
10:44Middle East.
10:44The Iranian team is coming for sure, yes. We hope that by then, of course, the situation will be a
10:52peaceful situation.
10:53He stressed that sports should be outside of politics and also rejected any change of venue.
10:58Iran is scheduled to play its Group G matches in the United States.
11:03The team had asked to move the matches to Mexico following comments by US President Donald Trump discouraging their participation
11:10due to safety concerns.
11:11The tournament has created a deep rift among fans, with some refusing to watch while others deliberating protests.
11:19Players also face significant political pressure.
11:22Iran's participation had been thrown into doubt by the conflict launched by the United States and Israel in February.
11:29Although a fragile truce began in April, tensions remained high with the US blockade on Iranian ports.
11:35Iran with a nuclear weapon.
