00:00On the second leg of his African tour, Pope Leo on Thursday traveled to the western Cameroonian city of Bamenda,
00:06preaching a message of peace to a region that's been at the epicenter of a separatist conflict that humanitarian groups
00:13have called one of the world's most neglected crises.
00:18Jesus told us, blessed are the peacemakers, but woe to those who manipulate religion in the very name of God
00:27for their own military, economic, or political gain.
00:31Pope Leo's message follows his speech given on Wednesday upon his arrival in the Central African country,
00:37where he urged the poor Bia government to root out corruption.
00:41President Bia, who at 93 is the world's oldest leader, sat passively as Pope Leo read his speech in French
00:49at the presidential palace in Yaoundé.
00:51For that peace and justice are affirmed, we need to break the chains of corruption that defigure the authority in
01:02the evidence of its credibility.
01:05We need to liberate the heart of this fear of Ghan, which is idolatry.
01:13The real Ghan is the development of an integral human being, that is, the balanced growth of all aspects that
01:22make life on this land a blessing.
01:26Being the first pope to visit Cameroon since 2009, many cheering Cameroonians gave Pope Leo a raucous welcome,
01:35lining the road into the capital Yaoundé from the airport, dancing and waving palm fronts as the pope's motorcade wheezed
01:41by.
01:42Ahead of the visit, the Vatican had said fighting corruption in Cameroon would be one of the themes of Leo's
01:48visit,
01:48and the pope did not hold back.
